The biggest difference is that Luke would never have tried to kill his nephew unless he had no other choice. Remember, this is the man who was the only one who saw any good in his father and was the only one who believed that he could redeemed.
Seriously. He was literally the only guy in the entire galaxy who thought Vader could be redeemed. There is no logical path to what he became in The Last Jedi.
I like to call EU Luke - The Great Redeemer. Most memorable is a moment when he's fighting a dark Kam Solusar and turns him back to the light. AS he establishes himself, EU Master Luke in effect undoes what Yoda and the Old Republic Order preached for years "Once you start down the dark path...", and offered a new way, a way of redemption, starting with Luke's father.
Ah yeah right on brother I personally don't like to say legends as for some stupid reason the other non canon SW content like classic marvel are also called legends and makes things confusing that's I say old eu and disney SW D canon very simple
I wonder that if George got to make his sequel trilogy what would Leia's powers extend to if she had the force, and if she would have succeeded in making a New Republic after defeating Maul, Talon and their crime syndicates with the help of Luke, of course, Leia could've earned the title of The Uniter, uniting the galaxy once and for all, or well, until the Uzang Vong would come.

Legends Luke ALWAYS!!! One of Luke’s greatest challenges and that I like is fatherhood. We all know what Luke’s relationship with his own father was like. Luke’s son is literally my favorite character in all of the mythos. He’s the guy in my profile picture that you see right now.
For me Legends Luke is the real Luke. I mean yes, even in the old canon he was insanely powerful, as George himself said, he had a similar potential as his father, fulfilled it and went on to become the most powerful Jedi of all time but not even that does him justice. Grandmaster Luke nearly was what Anakin could have become. We never got to see full potential Anakin but Luke gave us a glimpse on how powerful he could have become. We all deserved to see Luke in live action on the peak of his powers, he was the hero we and the galaxy far far away needed but Disney had other plans...
Well he didnt have similar potential. He had the ''same'' potential. Also you should really stop associating Luke's story to Anakin.Luke's EU stories mostly happened before the prequels and the creation of the chosen one prophecy. Also its the opposite, its ''Eu Luke was what Anakin could have become and not the reverse.Remember Luke's force powers were all made before prequel Anakin
One of my favorite things about EU Luke is how he and Mara ultimately balanced each other out. In a way they needed each other - Mara needed him so someone could help her deprogram what was essentially the equivalent of Palps' cult indoctrination/psych manipulation and then to help her actually adjust to being a normal(ish) person, Luke needed her to keep him in check whenever he overstepped his "hero" boundaries out of a fear of failing everyone around him and trying to do too much to help. I genuinely think a canon Luke with a decently-executed canon Mara, dead or not, would never have ended up in a series of circumstances that ended with him becoming a cynical hermit. She simply wouldn't have let it get that far. She was the type of person to knock him back to his senses when he was overtaxing himself trying to solve everybody's problems out of a sense of guilt or obligation. Say maybe Ben _was_ too far gone - Luke would have beaten himself up trying to figure out how to "fix" it, felt guilty for thinking maybe there was no way out, and she would've been the one to remind him that as admirable as that sentiment can be, maybe he couldn't save everybody or fix everything and that was okay, they could only do the best they could moving forward. If everything went to shit regardless, she'd have come back as a Force ghost and annoyed the hell out of him for blaming himself and he wouldn't have lasted on that island for longer than a day. Idc what anyone says, EU Luke clearly valued the fact that she was there to be an anchor when even his biggest strength (his willingness to help/make things better) got the better of him. EU Luke had weaknesses, but there were times when he let people like her help him get past them. What makes a character heroic isn't just what they can do on their own, it's also how they relate to the people around them and have the humility to allow those people to help them grow when such help is needed. Unlike what I think some people at LF might believe, og Luke wasn't a perfect messiah who needed to be desconstructed to be relatable. He already was imperfect, but in a way that could reasonably coexist with the things that made him so powerful. It's overly simplistic on the part of any writer to assume that an interesting character cannot be both.
Yeah but I never thought he’d have a love life. It’s good, it’s good, I just thought that he was more of older brother and father figure to his students and comrades and also still had tribulations and yet still keeps going
Well, he kinda needed Krayts help to go against Abeloth. Speaking of illusions though, legends Luke did manage to effortlessly cast illusions of a massive fleet to distract his nephew, who himself was one of the strongest force users ever.
Imo I prefer Legends Luke cause it really kept true to the original trilogy and had him grow beyond it. The Dark Empire was one of his darkest times but with the help of his friends he overcame it and grew stronger because of it. He also grew more powerful over the years and to me it makes sense why he became as powerful as he did. Despite having the power he still fails a lot and loses a lot of people. For example Mara Jade, Jacen Solo, Chewbacca and many others. Also he still stuck with his beliefs of redemption throughout the entire process. He chose not to fight Jacen cause he was afraid he would end up killing him.
Well thats not true tho.Luke didnt want to fight Jacen because he believed that if he killed him ,he would fall to the dark side.Luke was perfecly willing yo kill Jacen, the problem was that if someone with his power falls to the dark side ,its game over the Galaxy as at that point. He was the most powerful mortal force user that has ever lived
Nice to see some love for Dark Empire. It’s a story that gets flak for its premise, but actually succeeds in telling a compelling story that adds depth to Luke.
After finally reading the Heir to the Empire trilogy… I’m SHOCKED that when Disney took over Lucasfilm in 2012 why they didn’t just agree to do movies on the Heir to the Empire trilogy. They didn’t even have to call it Episode 7,8, and 9 they could’ve just made it it’s own thing and then base a whole new trilogy on that
The reason is Mythic Jedi. It sounded too much like right. Disney had become Woke. So of course they want to demolish a Character like Luke Skywalker who is a Hero and he's also is a Alpha Male type and they don't want any Alpha Male types they want men in a dress. And Luke is also White or you can say a Caucasian and the Hero. And you see that shouldn't matter what race that you are. But when you are dealing with a Woke Culture who wants to take down and don't want to have to deal with a Male Hero and plus he is also an Alpha Male type. And that is why they are always trying destroy Characters like Luke Skywalker. You see it all the times in movie Films today. And it doesn't matter rather if you are white ? If you are one of those Alpha Male types and the Hero , they don't want to promote those types like they used to do in films. The Industry is loosing out because they have become to Woke. But like they say when you become Woke you become broke , then you lose.
Expanded Universe Luke Skywalker achieved many notable feats throughout various novels, comics, and other media. Here are some of his most significant accomplishments: 1. Became one of the greatest Jedi Masters: After receiving extensive training from Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, and other Jedi Masters, Luke became one of the most powerful and skilled Jedi in the galaxy. 2. Founded a new Jedi Order: After the fall of the Empire, Luke began training a new generation of Jedi to help maintain peace and justice throughout the galaxy. 3. Defeated the reborn Emperor Palpatine: In the Dark Empire comic series, Luke faced off against a resurrected Palpatine and managed to defeat him with the help of his sister Leia and other allies. 4. Survived numerous battles and duels: Throughout his adventures, Luke faced many enemies and survived intense battles and lightsaber duels, including against Darth Vader, the Emperor's Hand, and several powerful Sith Lords. 5. Discovered and trained Mara Jade: Luke encountered Mara Jade, a former Imperial assassin, and helped her overcome her dark past and become a powerful Jedi Knight and his eventual wife. 6. Fought against the Yuuzhan Vong: In the New Jedi Order series, Luke played a key role in the galaxy's war against the invading Yuuzhan Vong, a powerful and ruthless alien race. 7. Became one with the Force: In James Luceno's The Unifying Force, Luke Skywalker temporarily achieves the state of Oneness, defeating countless Yuuzhan Vong warriors as he confronts their leader Shimrra Jamaane. The real Luke Skywalker belongs to the Expanded Universe!
I prefer Legends Luke, for pretty much everything you mentioned. If Episode VIII wanted to do the disillusionment thing, I think a more nuanced way would be this: Instead of Luke trying to kill Kylo Ren, he tries to counsel him after he had experienced the death of a fellow student, unable to cope and turning to the dark side. Instead of being grouchy and edgy, he’s merely heartbroken at his inability to save his nephew. He wouldn’t throw his lightsaber away; he’d gently hand it back to Rey, tearfully saying, “I’m sorry… but I lost the right to this.”
@@Hello-bi1pm The student loss would just be the first step. Since the incident, Kylo blamed himself for not being strong enough in the Force to stop it from happening. Luke constantly urged him to move on, but Kylo just got more upset each time. He even started hating his master for his perceived insensitivity. And then comes Snoke…
@@Hello-bi1pm Probably have a similar arch to Anakin with his ideas of losing Padmé leading him down the path that caused him to kill all the Jedi. It would need time to work but it could work like Episode 3 pulled off. Maybe a bit more mystery to the whole thing would aid for this.
Legends/EU Luke will always be the best. But I know Disney will never disregard their own movies, so I try to think of ways that they could fill in the gaps and fix them (I know, it would be difficult). But what if: *Mara Jade is brought back into canon, and Luke has a vision of Ben Solo killing her. Perhaps that could prompt Luke to feel defensive enough to strike his nephew. Because I just can’t believe that Luke would strike down his nephew for choosing the Dark after knowing that he could return Darth Vader to the Light. But perhaps that moment of confusion was to protect Mara Jade? *And maybe Luke didn’t actually give up on being a Jedi? What if that was a lie he told Rey because he knew she was a Palpatine (which he admitted) and he didn’t initially trust her. What if Luke sensed the coming darkness, and sent many of his students into hiding? Perhaps they could still be training under another Jedi, like a canon version of Kyle Katarn. Possibly Cal Kestis?
I don't think Luke needed another regression/progression arc. We already got that in the originals. I understand that people will always have struggles, but something as severe as trying to kill your nephew seems like a huge step back, an unrealistic step back, for Luke
@@tuutelisyea especially since he should know that the vision he saw happens because he tried to kill him since he should know the acts you take to change the future only solidify it
The fact that disney luke was so afraid of a teen like kylo that he would think about merking him in his sleep is honestly laughable. Thats supposed to be the same luke who was facing two of the strongest sith lords in existence and THREW DOWN HIS LIGHTSABER and said nah, yall dont scare me.
Look, I get that Legends had its fair share of problems, but here's the thing: the legends era had more good content than bad content. The Disney era has more bad content than good content.
Grand Master Luke is the most powerful force user in galactic history. Disney Luke has one good moment immediately undermined by Book of Boba Fett and of course TLJ
Luke from Legend wasn't unstoppable. But it is Luke who remains true to his character from his youth when he was a farmer boy and the boy who rode the speedy bike to catch animals for sale. He faced hardship and stumble but he wasn't alone. He has Leia and Han by his side and Luke forges a bond with other people and trusts in them. Most important is Luke's student VS Exar Kun case with completely diverse from Disney canon. Many new-gen Star Wars fans who are happy about how "realistic" Luke was in The Last Jedi, watch Jedi's students VS Exar Kun. They will scream in terror at how Disney messes up hard in Luke Character.
He grew as a character in legends. He rejected the light/dark dichotomy. I just ignore the sequel versions, the EU is just far superior when it comes to character development.
They could reboot this whole franchise. Just show clips of the last trilogy, then cut to Luke waking up saying " huh that was weird" Then pick up from there.. and start over. It can be a vision of a possible future he needs to prevent or just a dream, solely used as a plot device to erase the last movies. Doesnt matter, the fans will accept it. All we want is a proper sequel. Hell it could even be an almost 4th wall breaking joke and we would take it. Doesnt matter how we get there, just get there
Honestly it would be funnier if he were at a bar but you're right, but I feel like all he needs to do to prevent it is NOT try to kill Ben Solo (if he still exists)
Excellent video! 100% correct. Disney's attempt at an abrupt transfer of power from Luke to a new generation, was the worst decision I've ever seen a studio make. A much longer transition period, regardless of how affluent Rey was in the Force, would've allowed for years and years of more Luke Skywalker potentially giving us his Legends badassery. Rey could've impressed him but still needed him for control and honing. I just hope the Star Wars universe can recover from this.
The stupid thing is they had what they wanted following the Vong War. Jana Solo could have been the Hero battling her brother Jacen the new Dark Lord of the Sith. Why they didn’t use that story is beyond me. All The OT characters were a perfect age for this story. Then they could have gone back and done Heir to the Empire with deepfake OT characters when the tech was perfected.
I have to give it to Legends Luke because he developed instead of underdeveloped and felt like the character we saw him become at the end of the originals: A new Jedi Knight on his way to becoming a grandmaster, rebuilding the Jedi Order better than the corrupt and flawed one of the prequels, and also becoming the person that Anakin only dreamed of becoming. He made choices that he’d actually make and his life was a lot happier. Canon Luke made a mistake that he’d never, ever make and in the end, he became another version of Obi-Wan, but more scared and grouchy than he was.
Yes and if you read the Disney books, Luke built a prequel Jedi Order again. When talking about Ben he talks about suppressing emotions that he can't be there as an uncle but as a Jedi master. It says it right out. No wonder Kylo didn't trust him when the time came. Still no romance, and keep family affection down.
@@darthbane3937 Oh, wow. I didn’t know that, but now I can understand how Ben turned on him so quickly without a lot of remorse. A disagreement and dislike towards a supposed mentor makes it easier to kill him.
@@eightnickel1513 Consider it from another angle as well. Ben could blame the Jedi and their code for robbing him of his uncle when he needed him. He needed an uncle not a master.
@@darthbane3937 I see where you’re coming with that too. I can see both ways for him. Maybe I associate Ben with Anakin too much, or maybe Luke was already that bad of a mentor and uncle.
Definitely Legends Luke Skywalker. He's much more complicated and darker but despite everything he remains good and never turns away from his path. A jedi in its true sense.
Not even up for comparison in my book. Legends Luke was vastly superior in every regard, considering he successfully rebuilt the Jedi Order, even finding love marrying his beloved Mara Jade. Needless to say, we got glimpses of Luke in his remarkable prime contend with Abeloth (a being as powerful as the Ones), moving a black hole capable of throwing a moon into a planet
this is the only time i’ve ever heard you talk on the sequels without pure hate but still letting us the audience know how you feel about it, i wish you would do this all the time because it truly feels good to hear this.
I started listening to heir to the empire on audible and man its so good and just feels like the beginning im so excited to see the entire timeline through
Expanded Universe, not Legends. I love EU Luke, not because he became ridiculously OP, but because he establishes hope for the future, flexibility, perspective, and the rare force power of Tuteminis.
Sooo the G-Canon/Legends version… Because that is what he was based off of. Luke in the real, pre-Disney timeline was actually Luke Skywalker. This “Jake” Skywalker is NOT Luke. Mark Hammill said it himself; he is literally the one who CALLED him Jake Skywalker to begin with.
You'll never get over this buddy. And neither will true luke fans. He should have stood stronger on his own thoughts prior to signing off on the trilogy. Had he remained headstrong, he could have influenced a lot of positive change in the films. Some of this responsibility does belong to him.
This video deserves more views on your channel. I've said so many times that Luke would NEVER turn on Ben Solo. He wasn't even evil yet. But for Vader, he had been evil his whole life and he STILL had faith he could become good.
legends works best for me. we get to see luke grow, get a wife and family and also get to see their adventures. there was so much exploration and things to enjoy
I prefer the Luke of Legends. It stays roughly true to Lucas’ Luke. Whereas I feel that the Luke of canon, just could not have been the Luke of RotJ unless we are missing something big.
Even in legends he stops himself and his son from killing Jacen solo (Darth Caedus) (who killed his wife) because they could have fallen to the dark side.
Disney Luke: A bum and a failure due to Darth Kennedy, Jar Jar Abrams and Ruin Johnson. Old EU Luke: Total badass, grandmaster, husband and father, crazy awesome, the guy who made the Jedi great again. Simple as.
I like some of the powers Luke has in Legends, but some of them have that “get out of jail for free” card which is typical of comics. Powers are cool, but I’m much more interested in a character’s story and how they evolve, especially in Star Wars. I don’t like the version of Luke in the Sequels, but I think the version we see in Mando and when he’s training Grogu is very spot on for what I imagined him as. Funnily enough, I think the version of Luke in Battlefront 2’s story is the best. One that’s separated himself from both the new republic and empire. Someone who gives the imperials he’s fought for so long a choice. Not to join the rebellion, but “a choice to be better” as he says to Del. Luke is supposed to be Anakin’s potential realized, but not just in power; in character as well. Qui-Gon’s character was inspired by Luke in ROTJ, so I’ve always viewed Luke as Qui-Gon’s legacy.
Well said! I agree! Luke should have been the completion of Anakin’s character arc. I’ve always felt that the prophecy was not fulfilled by Anakin alone, but through his children as well (and they’re technically born of the Force, as he was). Luke should be able to rectify the previous mistakes of his father and the Jedi Order, while building a new Order that focuses more on a connection with the living Force instead of rules and dogma. I also see Luke as Qui-Gon’s legacy, as he helps fulfill the prophecy that Qui-Gon was so concerned with. It wasn’t just about defeating the Emperor, it was about rebuilding the Jedi Order so that they were no longer corrupted by politics and ideals.
Yup this is good I was actually waiting for you to make this video, I looked around at some other videos covering the same topic, I would also like to see you make Darth maul cannon vs legends comparison.
Love seeing the EU get more love and respect I’ve been reading the books in chronological order and plan on starting the final series, Fate of the Jedi soon
So Luke married a former Imperial assassin. I wish that legends was incorporated into the sequel trilogy and any other follow up films. I would love to see Mara Jade brought onto the screen live and in a cartoon series.
First of all the mouse ears are hilarious. Also the Legends Luke is 100x better. I grew up with the Legends comics & video games(Luke, Cade Skywalker, Mara Jade, Kyle Katarn, etc). Plus I love how the Skywalker & Solo family tree lives on in the comics. So cool.
Even Luke almost immediately as he becomes a Jedi briefly turns to the darkside in his climactic duel against Vader pulls himself back to the light; fearing what Vader and Palpatine would have done to Leia he gives into his fear and then his anger. That a Grandmaster Luke slipped with a sleeping Ben Solo to the point of igniting his lightsaber is ridiculous. The very same Luke that threw his lightsaber aside when confronting evil's pure form in Sidious. It honestly boggles the mind how Disney could get the character so very wrong.
Legends Luke will always be my head canon. Don't get me wrong, I do love aspects of Grumpy Luke, but there are too many differences in the "canon" that would make me change my love for Legends. He's altogether well rounded and though he had been written by many authors, they all did their best to honor George Lucas' vision of Luke.
Read Tales of the Jedi Redemption. It’s the same story as Luke from TLJ but instead of Rey and Luke it’s about Ulic Qel-Droma and Vima Sunrider. It’s a far more compelling story and doesn’t assassinate anyone’s character. It’s also set during the Old Republic era.
I recently read the Thrawn trilogy (the original one), and the portrayal of Luke in that was far superior, in my opinion, to that of Disney's Luke. I appreciated that Luke actually dwells on the fact that he used the Dark Side when mind controlling guards to get into Jabba's palace, and decides to pointedly resist that kind of easy solution to problems as the Thrawn series progresses. He has the power and ability to do many things that would get him out of tough situations with little effort, but those solutions would betray his principles, so he rejects them. Luke still struggles and goes through conflict, and rehashes lessons from his past, but every time, he chooses not to go down the Dark Path. I would have liked to see that treatment in the most recent trilogy movies.
People are still just as interested in your Theory videos, it's just that they aren't as consistent, that's the ONLY reason you aren't getting the views you're used to on it :)
I still, to this day, have not been able to come to terms with Disney's version of Luke, but there is a silver lining... The expanded universe, everything I love about it; Luke's continued story, the Thrawn trilogy, the stories even further in the future told in media like the legacy comics, the distant past told in the Old Republic games and stories. All this, our Star Wars, it's "locked in". Nothing can take it away from us, not even disney's terrible treatment of Luke. It may be sad that it was tossed aside and won't be continued any longer but it's been immortalised for us all to continually enjoy.
I'm not entirely opposed to the idea of Outcast Luke from the sequel trilogy. Execution needs work, though. I honestly feel like they took what they were TRYING to do with Luke here, (and a bit of Thor from Avengers Endgame), and did it better with Obi-Wan in the Kenobi show. The shoe had a ton of problems, but that setup for where Ben's mental state was at the time was at least believeable. I need to experience the Legends version of Luke. I read a few of the Young Jedi Knights books when I was a kid, and I'd love to revisit them.
Luke in Legends/Lucas Canon = the ultimate hero who defeated the Empire and restored the Jedi Order. Luke in the Disney Canon = an old recluse who turned on the Jedi tradition despite having absolutely no reason to do so and became a prop to facilitate the Rey story.
Would've been awesome to see Luke owning dark jedi/Imperials in the sequel trilogy using all his force powers and lightsaber prowess. I have this image that has always been in my head of grandmaster Luke force slamming the ground radiating energy and light around him, throwing and incapacitating all opponents around him.
If Luke had been there, I could see him showing how much more powerful he was than Kylo Ren by holding all the ATM6’s blasts in midair compared to Kylo Ren using the Force to hold one Blaster bolt in midair.
There are tons and tons of lore about Luke in legends but I highly recommend Disney SW fans to read Heir to the Empire, and see the how his character arc was beautifully portraited. If you're looking for the human side of him it's all there. I remember there's a part where he's totally depressed and hesitant about continuing to be a jedi, but he never cuts himself from the force or never shows any hesitation to protect those who loves. I think the character development in the Legends are waaaay more relatable and well established.
Legends Luke over Canon Luke is my choice. For Canon, I hoped that Luke would continue to train Rey and new students, like Finn, as a Force Ghost. However, since Mark Hamill resigned from playing Luke, I doubt that would ever happen unless Hamill will only voice Luke (Qui-Gon speaking to Yoda as a voice in Clone Wars).
Hi Theory. I have been subbed and have all notifications on fo you, but I was not notified about this. After your last video, I wanted to let you know this information.
Prefer Luke of Legends but was surprised at how little of the Canon content you covered as the comics and books talk a lot about what he did prior to Last Jedi.
Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamills character) will always be a cut above his father character Vader just because hes so relatable and made a great foundation for a heroes journey to greatness.
In Canon: Luke gave up TRAINED a Mary Sue and died a Virgin In legends: Rebuilt the Jedi order, had several relationships, redeemed a Sexy red Head named Mara Jade, banged her and had a Son, defeated the Vong, Abeloth, and died peacefully.
Of course I will choose Legends Luke Skywalker, he is such an awesome character in legends. He even married the amazing female character Mara Jade and she's my favorite woman in legends🥰
Theory, I love how you can make even one of the most heinous acts of character deconstruction sound almost romantic. 😀 On a serious note, legends Luke, we get to view first hand the continuing growth and development of a hero, a Jedi... the last of his kind. We get to see his up, his downs, and everything in between, and through it all, Luke never gave up hope, he kept moving forward. In short, to me, Luke was a representation of a man's journey in life. Things will not always be a pleasure cruise, but through hard work, perseverance, and good relationships, people there to help us through those tough times, there is no telling what one could accomplish. Once again I must thank Disney from the bottom of heart for once again, screwing up a character I loved growing up. Thanks Mickey, can't wait to see who/what else you throw in the meat grinder.
Yeah, the Yavin academy was an interesting hodge podge collection of people. Mara Jade brough in a few storm commandoes and one knitted scarves for the students. Force witches floating in and out of the darkside. All of them learning to deal with their personal aggression. Palpatine's form spy network trying to push Leia and her children to the darkside and discovering Leia is just a Force of Nature when her family is put in danger. Vader's old spy network trying to keep the Skywalkers remotely safe. The side C plot background character of smugglers and merc over a six year span of novels turning out to be people that worked for Vader. Dark Horse comic series Crimson Empire I & II, Palpatine getting took out by his own inner council and imperial royal guard. In a way showing that the Skywalker family wasn't really needed. When they manage to talk the former guard to visit let alone train the next generation of Jedi. He saw a bunch of former Emperor Hands, dark Jedi, heavy hitting storm commandoes special forces, all he could do was just laugh. Marvel at all the teenagers and children of people he seen over the years and worked with. Dark Jedi, want a be Sith and sunny Jedi rejects as one big extended family.
One is loser one is not. One died alone and friendless after establishing a Jedi Order that was burned to the ground before even making one Jedi, one married a smoking hot red head and had a son, restarted the Jedi Order successfully which trained Jedi for Generations.
The reason Rian Johnson was hired is he empowered KK’s vision of emasculating and destroying the Luke Skywalker character. The Force is female for her so She needed Luke to be destroyed for Rey to rise as the bestest ever Jedi!
That's Disney's problem with Luke. They made him broken and severely depressed. I hate that so much because he became a reflection on my reality and I HATE THAT because Star Wars is supposed to take you out of reality completely, not align with it.
You are a true poet, the way you are able to take that giant disney turd that is their version of Luke and polish it enough to be almost presentable , well done SWT.

👏👏Very true!
Very, very true! Sorely underrated comment!!
Yeah but I never thought he’d have a love life. It’s good, it’s good, I just thought that he was more of older brother and father figure to his students and comrades and also still had tribulations and yet still keeps going
Legends: Luke was able to go 1:1 with Abeloth
Canon: I can make force illusions but i have to die after it.
Well, he kinda needed Krayts help to go against Abeloth.
Speaking of illusions though, legends Luke did manage to effortlessly cast illusions of a massive fleet to distract his nephew, who himself was one of the strongest force users ever.
Jacen solo? @@Gioeli76
@@Gioeli76imagine if vitiate joined as well would’ve been in their favor even more
Imo I prefer Legends Luke cause it really kept true to the original trilogy and had him grow beyond it.
Who doesn’t prefer Legends Luke? Especially after the absolute disrespect in the sequels.
@@gregorydotson6776indeed so

@@gregorydotson6776Luke was alpha? The guy whined for two movies..
Exactly. An excellent arc and a missed opportunity for the sequel trilogy.
Expanded Universe Luke Skywalker achieved many notable feats throughout various novels, comics, and other media. Here are some of his most significant accomplishments:
7. Became one with the Force:
In James Luceno's The Unifying Force, Luke Skywalker temporarily achieves the state of Oneness, defeating countless Yuuzhan Vong warriors as he confronts their leader Shimrra Jamaane.
The real Luke Skywalker belongs to the Expanded Universe!
Legends Luke: Light Side Ending
Disney Canon Luke: Dark Side Ending
So that’s how it happened..
Legends:Chewbacca Dies. Disney Canon:Han Solo dies and was shot first by Kylo Ren.
I prefer Legends Luke, for pretty much everything you mentioned.
If Episode VIII wanted to do the disillusionment thing, I think a more nuanced way would be this:
Instead of Luke trying to kill Kylo Ren, he tries to counsel him after he had experienced the death of a fellow student, unable to cope and turning to the dark side. Instead of being grouchy and edgy, he’s merely heartbroken at his inability to save his nephew. He wouldn’t throw his lightsaber away; he’d gently hand it back to Rey, tearfully saying, “I’m sorry… but I lost the right to this.”
So Kylo losing his fellow student would send him on a massacre of the Jedi Temple? That just seems almost as nonsensical as Reva's arc.
But what if:
*Mara Jade is brought back into canon, and Luke has a vision of Ben Solo killing her.
My head canon just refers to Disney Old Man Luke as "Luuke, the clone gone wrong".
why doesn't anyone else note the fact that he *fails* to kill a sleeping teenager? that shit should be a blue milk run for grandmaster luke.
@@tuutelis Isn't "while they are sleeping" the only time one doesn't feel like killing a teenager?

Look, I get that Legends had its fair share of problems, but here's the thing: the legends era had more good content than bad content. The Disney era has more bad content than good content.
Grand Master Luke is the most powerful force user in galactic history. Disney Luke has one good moment immediately undermined by Book of Boba Fett and of course TLJ
Legends all the way. Pre exile Luke was powerful, but that’s only a fraction of what the legends Luke was
Luke from Legend wasn't unstoppable.
Well he technically was cause when my he couldn’t like win, he would still eventually stop you so he is unstoppable
He grew as a character in legends. He rejected the light/dark dichotomy. I just ignore the sequel versions, the EU is just far superior when it comes to character development.
They could reboot this whole franchise. Just show clips of the last trilogy, then cut to Luke waking up saying " huh that was weird"
Then pick up from there.. and start over.
Please! I wish they would do that!!!
See Ray was wasted potential. You don't have to make a character ridiculously powerful to be interesting as is the case with Jedi Survivor.
Legends Luke is the greatest Jedi in SW History. Canon Luke entertained the thought of striking his own nephew during his sleep…
When I read the original Thrawn trilogy many years ago, Mara Jade became a favourite character of mine.
This was extremely insightful, I just which we got the proper version on screen and I know I’m not alone, great video as always theory.
Luke in Legends is the way it should have been and infinitely more interesting
Video should have been titled "George Lucas' Luke Skywalker v Disney's Jake Skywalker"
this is the only time i’ve ever heard you talk on the sequels without pure hate but still letting us the audience know how you feel about it, i wish you would do this all the time because it truly feels good to hear this.
The true EU. Disney canon can’t call itself an expanded universe because it chooses to keep shrinking down to empty sand planets.

Sooo the G-Canon/Legends version… Because that is what he was based off of. Luke in the real, pre-Disney timeline was actually Luke Skywalker. This “Jake” Skywalker is NOT Luke. Mark Hammill said it himself; he is literally the one who CALLED him Jake Skywalker to begin with.

legends works best for me. we get to see luke grow, get a wife and family and also get to see their adventures. there was so much exploration and things to enjoy
Agreed. Legends will always be canon to me
There is only one Luke Skywalker, to compare the two would be like comparing the light and the dark side.
I prefer the Luke of Legends. It stays roughly true to Lucas’ Luke. Whereas I feel that the Luke of canon, just could not have been the Luke of RotJ unless we are missing something big.
This is the original post.
AmeliaSmajor or whatever is a bot that stole my comment.
I will never forgive disney & rian johnson for doing Luke dirty. Nothing about him was even remotely in character tlj.
Yup this is good I was actually waiting for you to make this video, I looked around at some other videos covering the same topic, I would also like to see you make Darth maul cannon vs legends comparison.
Hope they can redeem Luke, makes me sad what they did to him. Forever be the Goat though
👏🏾 This was so well done showing both sides of the coin and giving a fair examination to each side.
Love seeing the EU get more love and respect I’ve been reading the books in chronological order and plan on starting the final series, Fate of the Jedi soon
After your last video I’m checking your page daily to make sure I don’t miss anything man
Legends Luke will always be the true Luke to many with counting the movies up to episode VI to me.
"Get tired and dying on a rock." - SWT Before there was Covvid, there was the Force Flu. 😂😂
That was one of my biggest issues with the portrayal of Luke by Disney. He would have NEVER tried to secretly assassinate Ben.
Luke got a taste of the dark side when fighting his father and hated it so much he was willing to die than to even dabble in it again.
Boy literally put mickey mouse head on Luke. Nah that's cold bruh 😭 😭😭😭😭😭
@@gabethebabe3337 I love that story!! Ulic Qel Droma is one of my favorite characters!

I’m certain our mate, Dave will give us a perfect blend of Legends and New canon Luke Skywalker.
I love that one of the only things DISNEY kept from GEORGE LUCAS’S original story treatments for the sequels was Luke Skywalker’s self imposed exile.
@@amarcellus1714 in my opinion, Luke’s exile was the only good thing about Lucas’s treatments. It makes complete sense to me.
In Canon: Luke gave up TRAINED a Mary Sue and died a Virgin
In legends: Rebuilt the Jedi order, had several relationships, redeemed a Sexy red Head named Mara Jade, banged her and had a Son, defeated the Vong, Abeloth, and died peacefully.
Of course I will choose Legends Luke Skywalker, he is such an awesome character in legends. He even married the amazing female character Mara Jade and she's my favorite woman in legends🥰
Let me fix that title for you. EU vs Disney canon
Great video
This is excellent and well done. You truly know who Luke is, and what he means. Thank you Theory!
Theory, I love how you can make even one of the most heinous acts of character deconstruction sound almost romantic. 😀
On a serious note, legends Luke, we get to view first hand the continuing growth and development of a hero, a Jedi... the last of his kind.
If Mando and grogu were in legends, Grogu would be on Yavin and mando would likely be employed as a combat instructor for the students

@Theory, I'm really curious what your version of the prequels would look like 👊😎🔥🔥🔥 anyone else? What if theory wrote EP. 1-3
Nice, I'd love you to do other characters in this format. I'd like to see you do Maul Legends vs Canon
That's Disney's problem with Luke. They made him broken and severely depressed. I hate that so much because he became a reflection on my reality and I HATE THAT because Star Wars is supposed to take you out of reality completely, not align with it.
