    I feed my guppies 3 sometimes 4 times a day, small meals consisting of flake food, live brine shrimp, blood worms and daphnia. Also the fry are fed blood worm and daphnia mixture ground up in a pepper mill. Works for me

    Excellent advice Michael. 👍👍👍👍
    Can you clarify your quarantine method I'm a bit confused.
    You start to use meds 12hours after release into tank. All 3 medication at the same time? Furan 2, hikari Ich X and General cure? Yes. Treatment as per tank volume and you feed them mixture of medicated flake food like levamisole only for 1 week. If system good you do a water change and feed regular foods non medicinal ones?
    How much water you remove and do you only use sponge filtration during quarantine?

    • @MichaelsFishRoom
      @MichaelsFishRoom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You got it down.
      I just turn on the auto water change system, so about 10% daily after QT.

    Great video Mike. I start qt 1st by the temp acclamation then slowly raise temp to about 80/ 82 and slowly introduce Fritz freshwater salt 1tbl pr 3 gallion. I keep them in that for about 5 days...I do a 30% water change..wait a week do another 30%. I also feed the medicated foods from Everything Aquatic for parasites. I typically keep new fish in qt for a min of 4 weeks...have done 8 to 10 weeks on fish that shipped in sick to do 2 rounds.
    Snack and beverage...waiting on dinner..chicken, and have iced tea. By the way..I do have gen cure and ickX and use it only if the salt treatment don't look to be working after a 2nd treatment. I'm cheap and salt is cheap and usually works well. :)

    Great tips, I use salt and higher temps with new fish. I also use a wormer we have here in Australia which is a mix of prazaquantal and levamasol to deworm them as guppies nearly always come with worms unless they are from someone who regularly worms their fish.
    I feed a mix of high protein pellets, flake, diy gel food full of fresh quality ingredients, microworms. Im about to start breeding brine shrimp in a tub which once its established I will feed that daily or every other day too. Variety is always a good thing.

      @@carolinagrammy2735 I just use whatever veg I have on hand which is usually alot of shelled green peas, zucchini, pumpkin, carrot, canned grean beans, silverbeat.
      I usually make it after ive been fishing and caught a few saltwater fish like squid, tommy rough (herring) I usually fillet the fish and remove all bones.
      I also add Spirulina, paprika, ground up cuttlefish bones to the mix.
      Blend it all in the food processor.
      Then either use gelatin or agar agar, put on baking trays, lined with baking paper. In the fridge or freezer for a couple of hours then use a pizza cutter to cut into feeding portions then into zip lock bags.
      Plenty of diy gel food vids on here, just watch a few and throw in whatever u want dont forget the ground cuttlefish bones or u can buy calcium powder if u dont have access to them at the beach.
      Its trial and error with gelatin, too runny just throw it back in the blender then add more gelatin but I dont care if it breaks up.
      I feed most of my fish and snails the same stuff its great.

    I had rabbits, chickens, ducks, pigeons, quails, partridges, lol even a baby sheep at some point etc didn't have any problems at all. Tried goldfish since I was told they aren't demanding and failed miserably 6 years back, I felt awful for killing and stopped trying aquariums. I hope I will have better luck with guppies: bought a ten gallon tank with filter, heater, light and will try plants in it. I watch these videos and they seem super helpful. Before buying the fish, any tip to make sure I will not kill them? What is the easiest hardiest fish to keep?

    • @James_Hande
      @James_Hande 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My tap water comes out as: TDS = 96, GH = 0, KH = 0, pH = 6.8 and I am having no problems breeding and raising fancy guppies. Oh, and I keep the temp at 76F and run sponge filters. Water changes are 25% every 3 days so my nitrates stay around 10. I originally added minerals to raise the GH = 5 & KH = 4, but then experimented with 2 tanks (adults & fry) and found I didn't need to add the minerals. But adding crushed coral won't hurt!

    Just my opinion but I feel it's best to not use any sort of antibiotics if the fishes aren't showing any symptoms in quarantine. If there's an issue then you should of course go ahead with it once you're pretty certain of the diagnosis but if not it's better not to. I really respect that you're doing your best to ensure you don't sell sick fish though!

    My large female guppies like the medium bug bites...I have to put them in tank water first to make them a little soft...they don't like the small bug bites...my big box guppies do well...they have lived a long time between 2/3 years..I have better guppies...but I've not had so much luck with them...but they have left behind some lovely fry...I just have fry everywhere so most of the local fish shops are taking them now.... I've started placing fry in 2/3g tanks just plants nothing else and to be honest they have grown bigger than the fry left in with the mother...I saw Doug does the same...and uses the same tanks...next stop will be a large tub...if I were going to breed for profit again...it would be mutt guppies...they are strong healthy large fish and the colour combinations can be beautiful...
