@@WYCKEDTRAINING broo I’m in Rhode Island born and bred I competed in the 90’s as a teen and 2000’s as an open competitor that move all the weights all the time mentality was everything back then.. World Gym in providence day in and day out I’m paying for it now your training has helped me still get it done keep up the work bro!
Mike has made more of a difference to my training and my physique at 46 fucking old man years old than anything I’ve ever consumed in bodybuilding for the last 30 years. Young dudes - take notes. This man speaks the truth.
Mike Mike Mike fucking Mike…your movements are SO NATURAL. So primitive to the body structure…it’s amazing. I’ve never felt so relaxed, pain free, on the muscle, off the joints, and extremely pumped IN MY LIFE
It is unbelievable how much this man is helping me and I’m sure all the people who listen to him through these videos. The way he communicate is simple and clear, as a bright mind can do, onest and full of passion for this sport. Thank you again Big Mike
Right on Mike! At 44 it's quality over quantity. I'm guilty of ego lifting long ago. When I stopped that at 32 is when I started making the most progress.
Wow this video brings me back to when I was in my twenties. I’m 53 now. When I was younger I was lifting heavier than this guy one day in the gym, but he had so much better development. I looked like I didn’t even train. I thought how does this guy look so good yet I’m moving more weight. You always make great points, you have gotten me to really analyze my movements. Thanks for great video, I have not done those rows in years and don’t intend to ever again
What an awesome point you make about how bodybuilding is an “accumulation” of training sessions within the sport rather than “how much” weight you move every workout… awesome point… forward progress is always important but consistency over time is so much more important … thank you mike for all you bring to TH-cam and share for free… you are an extremely valuable assets to this sport… much appreciation 💪
You make a great point, and it’s funny how we always think forward progress can be represented by weights increasing. Forward progress can be technique, it can be moving better, so many other factors outside of ‘how much ya bench bro’ shit
These "rants" from Mike are so amazing! He's talking so much truth about what most ppl do that end up with crazy injuries on the one hand, or a lack of results on the other hand. The thing about is it that so much of it is simple and uncomplicated. Lower the ego, train hard and realize it's a marathon not a sprint!
Excellent video and advice, thank you!! Been training since age 11 1981, never had a bad workout, mindset is key. Use perfect form and avoid injury. Only injury I incurred was a ruptured groin tendon first warm up set while playing semi pro football, played the game the following weekend with a leg black from my knee over my hip. Stretch and mobility, range of movement, and time under tension. Gracias!
every day is a learning day watching this channel its freaking awesome and i can watch the same videos over and over again and then i show my wife and shes learning too - keep up the good work big mike you are teaching us valuable knowledge
That was beautiful bro.. it just hit me.. when I’m trying to teach someone something it’s like I’m talking to my old foolish self.. right on brotha , good stuff
Mike is completely right. I just started going to the gym again after 2 and a half years. Before I used to see all the big guys lifting heavy weight and think "wow, they have an impressive phisique". However, now I realize that their phisique is not impressive at all, they are just big from lifting heavy weight with shitty form for years. You look at their backs and most of them have no lats, just huge upper backs. Same thing with their chest, most of them have no upper chest. If you just want to be big then go for it, but that's not bodybuilding. Just by learning how to train, in just under a month I'm making more gains than I did in like half a year of training like shit and only caring about moving weight. This channel is great, keep doing your thing Mike.
Hi Mike, I appreciate the advice. I'm 40, and for the past 22 yrs, I have been doing almost everything wrong lol. I just want to make sure I understand this movement. I was taught to bring the bar up just under the chest, but it looks like you're bringing it up to your stomach. If this is correct, would you mind explaining if there are pros or cons of where one brings the bar to?
Grew up in Rhode Island, was influenced by a few local bodybuilders, dint know there names, but I recognize when I see them......thank you Mike, and still influential to this day...
Love your videos! I’m 28, been lifting on and off for over 9 years now. I have a hip issue I was born with that will require a replacement as well as lower back and knee issues. My main concern is how am I going to be able to achieve the results I want all while getting the max time out of doing this as I can. I don’t want to have to stop lifting at the age of 40 because my body is f*****. I want to be able to do this for a long time. So many people are just destroying themselves to say they can lift the most weight!
I definitely get what you’re saying Mike but as a natural surely pushing for progressive overload via reps, weight and tempo is most important overall? Making sure the control and full movement is always there ofc.
I always love the comments I see on people like Chris Bumsteads page, when people are sh**ing on the guy for using Smith Machines. And people in the comments section saying "it only works because he takes gear" lmao. Man people are goofy sometimes in their dogma. I'm willing to try this instead of barbell rows now. No problem with it. Good stuff Big Mike 👏
I started doing rack pulls on the smith. My movement is totally different though. Hard to describe but because it’s on a track I can lean back pulling at the same time. Keeping way more tension in my lats.
I must’ve missed the part where you include curling in the squat rack? Hip thrusts with leg extension machine?! Better yet.. plate presses?! Hahaha. Have a great week man!!
it's very difficult to watch these videos sometimes through my tears of laughter. when he started pretending to walk the bar back like Frankenstein's monster i just totally lost it. so many bros at the gym doing this. man this guys sense of humor is WYCKED "you look like new born giraffes" 🦒🤣
YES SIR! My spine is crumbling like a farleys rusk all because I did exactly as you described here. Piss-awful form, going for the numbers. Ha ha, I was that twat. Love this channel!!!
L5 & S1...........Done! I'm with Mike on this one, and I speak from bitter experience. Fuck barbell rows! Better options in any gym! Thanks Big Fella 👍
@patrickjulius7352 I did it moving a fridge 😁 However for years prior to the injury I did a lot of heavy barbell rows and deadlifts. At 196 I was deadlifting 260 kg and barbell rowing 140 regularly with perfect form. No gear! I think I created a weakness. My point is, if my aim was to be a powerlifter then great. If my aim was building then did I really need to be doing these movements? I didn't know what the heck I was doing to be honest. Lots of great bodybuilders out there that never use these exercises, or if they do, they stay light. Barbell rows can seriously mess your lumbar spine up if your form is poor and you go too heavy. Just my observations of course. Hope this helps👍
Never had any fear. Just lock the hips so the back doesn't whip about and row row row. But then, so many can never get the groove bc their ego is too big to leave at the gym door.
Yeah....well maybe I LIKE to hear those plates rattling! Rattling plates are music to my freaking ears! 😆 but yeah....Smith machine is probably safer and more effective
Hey Mike, just watched a few videos from a few different TH-cam channels, and I do think your recording volume is too low. I noticed this the last video you made as well.
2:07 I think Dorian Yates is the only BB on this planet who can be proud of his 4 plate Barbell Row. I have never seen any bodybuilder row that weight with such clean technique.
@@tomob5715 I never watched much of his videos, so I didn’t know. I think a few more guys would be capable of doing it but Dorian‘s technique was impeccable. Even James Hollingshead or Jay Cutler needed some swinging to get it moving.
It's funny Mike, because I don't think you realize how hard it is for so many people to just have self esteem and do your own thing aside from how others perceive you or how they do things. People don't let go of how others will react and live based off that. Waste.
I never liked the look of barbell rows. It always looked unsafe. Just do weighted pull-ups with lots of negatives. Your back will be massive. Peace out 🫠
All my back movements are supported for the most part - in real life, when would u ever be bent over and “pull” something towards you without using your legs?
Mike makes this sport simple while other ppl are trying to reinvent the sport
Bingo.
Facts!
Truly a man of the people
100% 👍🍺

Thanks Mike, helps keep me honest and focused on what is important.
Love bent over rows. Don't go dumb shit heavy but this was gold. Great content Mike
I’ve been waiting for this one Mike
Been hoping you’d do a video on barbell rowing. Thanks
I was waiting for this video, for so long. Thank you.

Hey Mike thanks for always being real and educating us that really listen. Keep it up it helps me a lot!
Oh also is there somewhere we can buy your gear/merch to show our support? I'd dig a Wycked T shirt.
thanks for unveiling the simplicity of doing this movement risk free❤
Listening to Mike is like therapy ngl ❤️🔥
I agree 10000% .I stopped doing those years ago..I just don't feel it doing free weight barbell rows. It's way better options outthere
This information is so valuable, I wish I had TH-cam and mentors like this when I was young
Mike this is great advice I am 45 and heavy weight is not an option. These days I am slowing the reps down using weights I can control.

Should I try the Smith Barbell row? No back problems, but I’m very old -52.
I got scapula and shoulder impingement. You explains stuff soo well. Is there a chance you can do a push up video? Your ques are wicked
Mike o’Hearn out there doing weird things trying to be unique and this guy keeping it simple
Mike. Love all the info you give. Literally changed how I workout. Any tips for doing dips?
Seated dumbbell overhead extension is beneficial exercise for triceps and what is the right technique to do dumbbell hammer curl for biceps
When I give advice I usually talk as if I'm talking to my younger self too..✊🏾
New to your channel, loving it respect from down under 💯🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Hey Mike, thanks again! Can I get your thoughts on dips? I do have shoulder issues.
good one mike
i see the teasers for the triceps video
Waiting
good week big mike!
Mike what’s your thoughts on deadlift/sumo deadlift, I enjoy them a lot. I’m in bodybuilding but I hear a lot coaches say they aren’t good/optimal
I do this row 2 ways…smith mach and single arm dumbell. Not too heavy but not too light. Form is the key.

Yo Mike I'm of decent size but you're much bigger than me and it's so relieving hearing you have the same thoughts with heavy ass weight with Barbell.
I totally agree. Makes no sense doing that much weight.

listen to him kids. 63 one hip replaced and lower lumbar in semi spasm every morning out of bed. All for a trophy 20 yrs ago.

To simple not to understand! This video exemplifies the do's and definitely the dont's of barbell rolls! Thanks wycked Mike!
Pros are morons these days. They thick that is what gets them thick. It's the range of motion that's it.
