Jamal is a great down to earth American who has brought in a lot of new developments and has contributed tremendously in the Zambian basketball community. He coached and mentored me before I left for the US on a full basketball scholarship at GCCC Panama City, Florida. From there I was recruited (yet on another full basketball scholarship) to a university in South Carolina in the NCAA D-2 on the Peach-belt conference. I am the first female in Zambia to get a full basketball scholarship to the US. I also worked with Jamal under Miles and Associates program, a student mentor-ship program encouraging students all over Zambia on how to excel through both academics and sport combined. Thanks Jay! Keep doing what you doing.

I like this guy he is a "do-er" and not a "talk-er". Also he is not overly critical of others that does not follows his footsteps unlike other diaporians from the United States on youtube, and "we know who they are on youtube", but have a pragmatic approach to people choices whether they want to relocate to the continent or not. He is a very smart guy, and really helping and accomplishing something other than "talking", but rather "walking" the walk.

I just found out by looking up statistics on travel from the US to other parts of the world this year that Africa is the least visited annually by US citizens. Only between 1-2% of those who travel outside the US each year go to Africa, which is really a shame. Support Africa if you can.

Welcome home brother. Africa is your birthrite. You may have been born and raised in the diaspora, but your roots, your ancestors, have been Afrikan long before your forced sourjern in Amerikkka. Do not accept the false narrative that Afrikans hate you or do not identify with our AA, south American or Caribbean brothers and sisters. We know that we are one. And we know that you are one of us. Come back home. This is your land. You are welcome anytime anywhere on the continent. Come home!!

Excellent interview Woda! He gave great reasons and information on how and why he moved to Africa/Zambia. He told us who he was, where he was from and when and why he moved to the continent. Love that he took advantage of his options and left this racist country behind. Shout out back to you from the DMV. For those that don't know that means the three state area of the District of Columbia (Washington, D.C), Maryland and Virginia. I'm born and raised in D.C. I love that he's giving back to the youth of Zambia by operating the basketball camp. It's about time that African youth take advantage of their height and ball handling skills to play basketball. They can go to college free in the U.S. on basketball scholarships, then go on to the NBA and become millionaires. Thanks for the informative interview Woda.

@D&B just like I'm wary of African immigrants. A lot of bad stories about them, even by Caribbeans.

It's not as rare as you think, you've probably been around the wrong people.

This is great to hear. I grew up in Zambia, and played a ton of basketball in my youth back in the 1980s. But there was very much lack of development. We had track-and-field folks from the US who might come by, but not basketball. Not that we were spectacular. But there is this one exception that always filled me with regret. There was this one woman in Lusaka who I used to play and practice with quite often. Zambia didn't really have women's basketball at the time, so she played with men's teams. She was an absolute natural talent at it. She had a wonderful handle on the ball, a complete guard, who could outdo any man she was up against, by miles. And a hardworking dedication to improve it - every day, she was at it. But she had nowhere to go next, no one to take her to the next rung. It was heartbreaking to see her have to gradually give up what she loved. I lost touch with her many years ago, but I always wonder what could have been had someone spotted her talent. I am glad you are there and won't let girls like that slip through the cracks anymore.
