13:50 Learn more about the best diet for seizures!
Today I want to share some important information for those of you who experience seizures.
    Common triggers of seizures:
    • Fever
    • Head injury
    • Brain infection
    • Choking
    • Alcohol
    • Drug withdrawal
    • Extremely low blood sugar
    • Drugs
    • Toxins
    • Stress
    • High blood pressure
Data shows that keto is effective in eliminating seizures by a factor of 50 to 70 percent. But it's important to be on the healthy version of the ketogenic diet. The keto diet for epilepsy also includes more fat than protein.
Ketones are a byproduct of fat. Fat and ketones are the primary fuel source that our bodies should run on-not glucose. It's also the preferred fuel source of the brain.
Top potential benefits of ketones for seizures:
    • They have anticonvulsant properties
    • They stabilize the excitability of the neurons
    • They modulate neurotransmitters
    • They support the brain, including the hippocampus
    • They increase the hippocampus's mitochondrial biogenesis
    • They protect the brain and neurons against oxidative stress
    • They increase the ATP in the neurons to allow them to function better
In my opinion, one of the best natural alternative options for seizures is to get on the Healthy Keto® diet.
Natural ways to potentially help prevent seizures:
    1. Get on the Healthy Keto diet
    2. Start intermittent fasting
    3. Take ketones
    4. Consume foods higher in fat with moderate protein
    5. Consume cod liver oil
    6. Consume nutritional yeast
    7. Exercise

Hi Savannah''s World how did you stop your seizures I have had had many health issues also. I was left with CPS in 2005 after numerous blows to the head which damaged the "Left temporal Lobe" after a DV incident. In the beginning, I was having seizures 6 months apart until they started me on Epelim which I stopped suddenly in 2007 because of the side effects after about 2yrs. This then bought the seizures monthly so later in 2007 I started meds again, usually, the seizures were around the same time of the month when my hormones changed. I have a round 2 - 6 Focal Seizures over a few days every month, around 20 - 25 a year. I am now 61 and they are still happening but over the past 7 years they have turned into Drop Seizures, I stopped medication in 2012. I only recently had 3 bad falls, one where I hit my head on the ground after collapsing & falling backwards and needed an MRI & CT scan. I started a low carb diet in Sept 22 but it did not help although I was still having the occasional coffee & only a few small glasses of wine recently after stopping in June 22. One month ago I started a keto/ Carnivore diet which I shared below somewhere.

Started seizures in 2000, spent next 17 years trying various drs/meds, no avail. Started keto in 2017, by 2018 went from 2-3 seizures per month to only 2 that year. In 2021 a child of mine died, I turned to carbs as a comfort--until I had a grand mal at work a few weeks ago. I'm back on keto, that was a wake up call for me.

@iniemem okure my daughter is really good about making sure he gets plenty of balanced healthy fats in his diet, so that it doesn't cause him problems, because he doesn't have any fat to lose. I am not a nutritionist and wouldn't give any dietary advice to anyone, but in my personal opinion eating keto is healthier, as long as its done correctly, than the diet the majority of kids in the usa consume regularly todqy of pure trash fake foods that is causing so many illnesses like fatty liver, diabetes, high blood pressure, and auto immune diseases that we hardly ever heard of in children until recent years. Balanced healthy fats are so vital for so many different functions in the body, and sadly the majority of the usa consume only toxic seed oils and toxic grease from fast food. Keto not only has helped my grandson, but has helped his mom lose weight, and manage inflammation and control pain from back surgery she had on her L-4 area of her spine to remain drug and pain free. I'm currently on it to reverse health issues, and have put my 8 year old, overweight, 3 legged dog on keto for dogs as well! He has been on it for a couple of months now and has lost almost 6 lbs, and is improving joint issues. We both do omad and fast for 23 hrs the rest of the day. We owe a big part of the education about keto to Dr. Berg's videos. Thank you Dr. Berg! Much love and respect to you for this knowledge to change our lives for the better.

MCT oil is made from Coconuts. There's about 7% MCT in coconut oil. MCTs bypass the digestion and go straight to the liver where they are converted directly to ketones. It's an easy way to get your ketones up when just adapting to the Ketogenic diet/lifestyle. Remember that Dog's natural food source is meat based. Feed your cats and dogs lots of raw meat and fat, never ever grain based "pet food".

My mother died last year after she has epilepsy but epilepsy wasn't the cause of death. It was multiple highe dose of drugs that used to treated her and it didn't work. She was a healthy woman for her age, 62. But was stressed and lack of sleep. The death was sudden. I'm still coping with the lost.

Correction: there are many different types of epileptic seizure and not all of them affect consciousness or have "uncontrollable shaking motions". Simple partial seizures (focal aware seizures) don't affect consciousness, as they're limited to one part of the brain, and the occurrence of motor symptoms depends on which brain areas are involved.

An analogy for how the body uses energy is that sugar is like the energy a capacitor would hold. It's available instantly, as a surge, but it runs out fast. For continuous energy, the body relies on the breakdown of fats. That's the regular fuel that's in the tank. So the sugar stored in the body is like the starter motor or extra burst of energy to go from a standstill into motion. But it's the fat burning that supplies the rest of the energy. When the body rests again, it recovers, and energy from the fat burning recharges the capacitors with a form of sugar.

@@DrbergDr. Berg, please help me understand something. I've had seizures since 2005, but not very often. I quit taking meds about 5 years ago because I don't trust pharmaceuticals, for the most part. I quit using marijuana 7 months ago to see if they stopped. They didn't, but I went 4 months without having one when I was averaging one about every 6 weeks. One thing I kep doing was drinking lots of alcohol, so after my 4 month stretch of no seizures and then having one, I cut way back on my alcohol intake by like 99%. In the last 3 months I've had maybe 4 or 5 drinks. I used to have that much every day at a minimum. So I also started OMAD a little over a month ago but I hit a plateau, so I decided to fast longer to get past the plateau to help continue the weight loss. I went about 50 hours with no food and then I had a seizure in bed last night. I've read that a drop in blood sugar can trigger seizures and I knew that going into this. I believe that my body may be able to heal my brain doing a long fast but now I'm stuck at a crossroads. I don't know if I should just switch back to omad or keto or both or if maybe my body is now running on ketones and it was just the switch from sugar to ketones that caused it, and if I continue with the fast, I'll get the benefits of BDNF and heal my brain. What should I do, in your opinion?

After switching to the LCHF diet after almost two years, I finally noticed some differences. My back issues are gone, no more aches and pains, wieght loss, more energy, my anemia is better, my mind feels sharper (got off my cholesterol meds as well), hangry episodes are gone, but ultimately my anxiety has improved drastically.

I have had seizures since I was a baby and was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was seven. I would have series of four to six seizures, that were very severe and could have taken my life. They caused other problems such as electrolyte depletion and bone fractures. I found out the meds were the problem, so my doctor changed the medications. Ever since then, the seizures have been better, but I still have been having one to two seizures a month. I have been eating a low carb diet for eight, almost nine years. There was a period of time from 2017-2018 where I had no seizures and I was eating more ketogenic, so I am trying to go back to keto again to hopefully get some positive results again. The hardest thing for me is giving up/limiting fruit...I love it so much.

Acidosis is a big one to address! When I fast, I juice (with no coffee!) to avoid the degrees of acidosis that come with trying to fast on straight water. When I'm in Ketosis I'll try to stay in Ketosis as long as I can on a diet, so veggies are on the menu. We can do straight water when we long fast, but there 's more danger to it both on and coming off a fast specific to minerals (potassium, salt). The safest way by far to fast is juicing.
As for the meat advice Eric, if you are reading this, caution readers about the added sugars in most meats. Added sugars are in 85 to 90% of the meats, all the hot dogs and sausages, and cold cuts, hams, bacon, it's in most meats. I think the jury is still out on the body preferring to be in Ketosis the majority of the time, as well?
We may be looking at periodical long fasting to get down to normal weight, then maintaining Ketosis for deep autophagy as well as intermittent fasting to keep our bodies good at switching fuels (keep our mitochondria fusion at peak levels with both fuels) and then a normal weight maintenance diet from there with occasional long fasts to kick start the cycle but we simply cannot ignore the Catabolic phase. The North American diet is high processed, high carb and highly available, keeping everyone stuck in the anabolic phase. Of course, the Catabolic phase is detox, break down and repair and we aren't allowing our bodies to do it.
I hope if you read this Eric, that you do a video on the Anabolic/Catabolic phases of metabolism & the fuels they run on to drill it home.

I have seizures on both sides of my brain. I found out from MRI scans that the reason for mine are congenital. The back left is completely smooth. The right frontal lobe there's a cluster of neurons. Brain surgery isn't an option cause of not knowing how deep in the brain tissue the clump goes. Also having the problem on the opposite side. I take four medications along with having a VNS implant. I still don't have them under control. The Vegus Nerve Stimulator is also used if the Keto diet is not working for people on it.

❤❤❤I have seizures since I was 14( now I'm almost 28). I was given different meds at the beginning. Because of these I had many mental and physical problems. I decided to quit them. I didn't know what was wrong but I felt the need to stop taking them. I did, but I had a seizure on the excursion and freaked out everyone in the class😢. By the way, my mom told me from the beginning not to tell anyone about my seizures. From the excursion it was obvious that my safety and other people were more important than anyone not knowing what's really going on. I had many problems in life afterwards, I left home, I wanted to leave this life and mother behind me. But I was still taking medication from time to time, not knowing how much I needed it. 2 years ago I gave birth to my son, perfectly healthy child. I needed to take drugs for his safety, but I took half a dose, and I had only one deizure during pregnancy. After giving birth, I cut the dose to 1/4 of the dose I was supposed to take during pregnancy. I'm having seizures once a month now. I'm not fully on keto, but I make sure to take in all needed supplements, soon to start with CBD oil. Wish me luck! And I wish luck to everyone fighting or having someone close fighting epilepsy ❤🧬

I had petit mal seizures as a kid in 4th grade, I remember waking up in the hallway , and the teacher shaking me with both arms to wake me up cuz, I would seizure in the classroom , and she would take me into the Hall... At that time I was reading really scary vampire books, I had all the volumes and sequels , I knew all of the characters, I knew the mansions that they lived in I know everything about them... I started hearing my name being whispered in my ear as I walk down the sidewalk, I was being haunted by demons , I'm not kidding , so truly I think that's what my seizures were from, but I also think it was from head injuries, as a little kid two years old, and they found me in the street without clothes , no food and I had rat bites on my hands and they took me away to a orphanage , so what happened to me back then might have played a big part 2 such as head injuries cuz I used to faint quite a bit and so forth .so now that I'm 65 I'm having a few issues with stroke type problems , I quickly changed to the keto , I love Dr Berg I've been doing the cod liver oil and lots of fish and changing my terrible diet of potato chips bologna and bacon... I LOVE YOU DR BERG, YOU HELPED ME IN 5MILLION WAYS.. YOU PROBABLY ACTUALLY SAVED MY LIFE THANK YOU GOD BLESS YOU. FOREVER

5 stars Eric, keep 'em coming!! 😄
The heart, after 72 hours of being in a fasted state, is burning 75% ketones, little known fact! If the body is providing even a small amount of ketones, the brain and heart will hog it. As fasting man continues further into the fast, the brain will consume 72% and as high as 85% ketones depending on the health and condition of the mitochondria. All of our muscles can run on up to 100% ketones, including the heart. Kidneys, in the high 70's, but basically the same consumption as the brain. The rest I'm not sure of. Getting these numbers from George Cahill Jr., by the way.
    Excellent video, Eric ;)

    • @Lorne.Mccuaig
      @Lorne.Mccuaig ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@LifeIsWonderful675 You can get ketosis test strips online through Amazon and likely at pharmacy's. I've never used them, but I hear they work. Otherwise, your breath will take on a fruity, sometimes "metallic" smell from released Acetone from the breakdown of ketones. This is not a permanent feature of ketosis, however. After a few weeks, you will find that less ketones will be passed through the breath and urine as the mitochondria becomes more efficient at burning ketones, or so I've read. I haven't actually experienced this myself.
If you've ever heard the argument calories in/out or energy in/out equations, it's junk science. When we are in ketosis, we'll pee ketones, breath out ketones and the cells are not terribly efficient at using ketones as fuel. The numbers with ketones is around 50 to 60% efficiency, not comparable to cellular efficiency with glucose.
If you have insulin resistance, as your insulin comes down (and glucose), the body will get rid of excess salt and water, so watch for that as well.
Blood testing for ketones is the most accurate, namely for diabetics who test for it, but you should find that urine test strips are accurate enough and cheap. I would start there. Amazon has breath keytone analyzers out now for $ 50 to $100 bucks... I've never used them but they are out there. We are typically in ketosis with blood ketone measures between .5 mml and 3 mml, but long fasts can get you as high as 10.
