his is Queensrÿche's 2nd concert in Japan and outside North America, luckily for us fans it was captured on film -- it was later released in 1985 on VHS and Laserdisc, but has long been unavailable and out of print. This having once been officially released on video, it was originally edited so the tracklisting was different (see the playlist link in the bottom), and it contains some vocal overdubs (like Geoff laughing in the beginning of Nightrider, as well as other bits throughout the show). This bootleg is already to be found on TH-cam, but in rather poor quality, so I thought I'd upload a better one.
The concert itself is great, the band is playing fiercely and Geoff is screaming and wailing to the best of his ability, nailing those high notes.
All of the songs are great versions, even if they contain overdubs throughout.
    Enjoy!

I paid 5 bucks at the door of Hammerjacks in Baltimore MD .. It was Jan 1985 . Just a few months after this vid . Queensryche was playing , So I got a bar-stool overlooking the side of the stage , Right in front of the PA . During the entire show . Wilton would look straight at me and shake his fist , Rockenfield would point his sticks and Geoff saw I was going wild . During this song. He kept on pointing at me and then when the lead break came , Climbed up and took my hand and we both watched DeGarmo do the lead together . I'll never forget the look in Degarmo's eyes " Dude , don't push him off " and when the song ended and Geoff climbed down . Degarmo looked at me and said Thank you .. Awesome

I was at that same show at Hammerjacks. Worked in that area for almost 10 months. Saw a bunch of great shows there and at the Seagull Inn too. Monsters of Rock, Kixx, Metallica and several others. First weekend in Baltimore we went to Motley Crue at the Civic center in downtown.

@@mitchelperkins6723 Now that's awesome . That night really stuck with me ..I have been to The Seagull in . I was the founding member of a semi-popular band in Baltimore in the 80's " Mystic Force " . I wasn't playing with them at the time but went to go see my ole band play there . My friend and ex-bandmate played at Hammerjacks a few times . In fact he was the one that told me Queensryche was playing that night . He didnt come with me so I went alone . I remember seeing Motley Crue as well in Balto . It was on The Theatre of Pain Tour , I think the opening act was Loudness... For the Queensryche show at Hammerjacks .. I was top stage right at a barstool .Looking back .I couldn't believe the view and how close I was to the band . Felt like I was right on stage with them.. Side note My friend and bassplayer that continued with my ole band . Did pretty good as a bassist. Played at Hammerjacks a few times and opened for Autograph , Poison and Fates Warning , Yngwie Malmsteen . He eventually went on to be the bassist for Iced Earth for a short minute but got fired . My ole band actually got a singer that played for Pantera " Rick Mythiasin " also of Steel Prophet . . My buddy called me once and told me they hooked up with a band in NYC to do a mini-tour and they were playing a small club " Maxwells" in Balto. So I went and the band was Crimson Glory . Couldn't have been more than 50 people there !! Keith and I used to sit around his room smoking weed and writing music in 83-84 and we were drawn to Prog Metal like Queensryche .. Balto was a hotbed for metal in the 80's . Every band checking out others. I saw a lot of bar bands at the time like Wrathchild America and Child's Play who's members . Some went on to become famous like Shannon Larkin Drummer for Godsmack . Good memories . Gotta pinch myself .. I was there .

The best metal vocalist of 80's metal. They also made the best 80's concept album called "Operation: Mindcrime", You should give it a listen, it is a complete story so start from the 1st song and play through to the last. (trust me, if you like 80's metal, you will love this album)

Thank you for reacting to this song! The original lineup of Queensryche is my favorite band in the universe! Queensryche is still making music today, but only has two of the original band members in it now, Michael Wilton, guitar, and Eddie Jackson, bass.
There are SO many great songs from them, it's difficult to suggest just a few. But I'll try:
"Silent Lucidity" ( beautiful ballad about lucid dreaming).
    "Anybody Listening?"
    "One More Time"
    "Another Rainy Night"
    "The Thin Line"
"Breaking the Silence" from their concept album, which is a MUST listen! Complicated, compelling story.
"Walk in the Shadows" about vampires.
They write about a variety of subjects which are always intriguing.
I enjoyed your reaction, and hope you do more original lineup Queensryche in the future!

The original Queensryche was amazing, the had the chops, songs and killer musicians, they have many great songs. Geoff Tate is incredible on vocals and is a perfect match for this hard rock - metal hybrid that is one of the very best bands of the 80s and into the 90s. Their Operation Mindcrime album is a great concept album and they were fire right away with their debut EP and the great Warning album. From the EP or from the same concert you just reacted to, do The Lady Wore Black, another all time banger from one of my favorite bands. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶

There is no "best" in music. It is not a sport and nobody is keeping score. It in about how YOU feel hearing the the sounds. Obviously there are bands out there that cannot play their instrument, but with A.I. taking over we will lose any remaining bands to be replaced by A.I. All u gotta do is tell the computer "make me a song with a melody sung by a female who has decided to go do life her way. Make the 2 electric guitars work off each other and give me a shredding solo............." It is already here. Hip Hop will look like Mozart.

In 1983 I was 18 and working at an Indie record store/headshop. Our record distributer knowing I was a Metal Head gave me a promo copy of Queensryche's EP "Queen of the Reich". I took it home put it on the turntable and was blown away. I have been a fan ever since, I have seen the several times. The best show was in 2005 at the historic First Avenue in Minneapolis, MN. They played their big hits then played "Operation Mindcrime" in it's entirety. At the end of the show the sound guy gave me a set list with notes written on it by Geoff Tate.

It was cool how you mentioned Freddie Mercury because he reminded you of this singer whose name is Geoff Tate. Well, they do both have the same 4-octive vocal range, however, Geoff Tate was a classically trained vocalist and Freddie was not, but Freddie was a classically trained pianist. One of the interesting facts to me is that Geoff Tate, Ann Wilson (singer for the band Heart) and Chris Cornell (singer for the band Soundgarden) all had the same vocal teacher, David P. Kyle. You did a great reaction to the song.

When I'm feeling down for whatever reason, I go to TH-cam and watch reactions to THOTF, I Will Remember and Silent Lucidity. It's like this secret that all Queensryche fans know and it's only now that people are learning about them and specifically Geoff Tate. It's a shame they didn't have TH-cam back then. It may well have changed everything for them. Some say Best Metal/Rock vocalist, I say G.O.A.T. of all genres of music. He could sing anything.

There are many iconic metal bands who never got airplay in those days.
Bands like Iron Maiden and Queensryche were not airplay worthy but were still HUGE acts.
They did have one radio hit…Silent Lucidity in 1990. That entire album EMPIRE is my favorite album to this very day.
Every song on that album was produced to absolute perfection.
Iron Maiden have sold over 130 million albums worldwide but never had a radio hit.

Geoff Tate of Queensryche, Ann Wilson and her youngest sister Nancy Wilson of Heart ❤, the late Layne Staley of Alice in Chains and the late Chris Cornell of Soundgarden lived in Metro Seattle in the 1970s. They were students of the late singing coach David Kyle. Marilyn Horne and Frederica von Stade, who moved to my hometown area the San Francisco Bay Area 🌉, are the female classical music singers who were his students 🎓 👩‍🎓 .

Along with their GREATEST INDIVIDUAL PROFESSIONAL MEGA PLATINUM ALBUM... "Operation Mindcrime", a CONCEPT ALBUM which follows the horrific story of MIND-CONTROL tactics OVER THE POLITICAL AGENDA of false Saviors... from religion to the candidates who say that they will effectuate CHANGE, but they NEVER do... once we, the people, vote them in to public office. Kinda sounds like TODAY'S MODERN WORLDVIEW, doesn't it??? DEFINITELY ONE OF THE GREATEST CONCEPTUAL ALBUMS EVER MADE!!!! IT'S UP THERE WITH PINK FLOYD'S "THE WALL"... & RUSH's "2112" Album. The singer has a puupysound for heavy-matal.

Geoff Tate was 25 in 1984, now at 66 still tours but has to down tune cause he can't quite hit that E5 high note.

Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶
