It's just nature. Survival of the toughest, smartest, strongest, richest, fittest. Animals all do this, too. Look at lions. They oppress females, kill their babies just to mate with lionesses, who expect good sex every 20 minutes and the males expect them to do all the hunting work to feed the pride, as well as raise the cubs. And then the young teenage male dudes decide they want sex partners and simply kill some old male pride leader, kill all the lionesses' cubs and have a good age old male sexual orgy. While the poor old man lion just has 6o wander off alone, probably suffering dementia of all the rotten masculine power abuses he perpetrated in his hey day. And just gets preyed upon himself and eaten, even if his hide is pretty tough and sinewy. But, as humans, we could seek to rise above our animal barbarity, without denying we are still a part of the animal order. We are a bit more evolved, I hope... But sometimes wonder...

What broke me as a human is that outside the halls, were full families living by the sewers and in cardboard houses. When i asked if we could give some of the left over to the people outside. I was told almost in an echo of everyone there that they are not used to the food, and they would probably get sick, so its best to throw it in the garbage... I still don't understand how the caste system is very much prevalent when many of the Indian upper class are from lower castes. Like Indian President is a Dalit. Indian PM is also lower caste. India's richest man is also OBC. The Indian Government has hard time uniting a country that has multiple different ethnic groups, religions, and castes.

@@georgelincolnrockwell4659 Answer is simple . It's not about Upper caste or lower caste . In india the land weren't equally distributed , and majority of land are inherited to upper caste . Many similar things happened . If this thing weren't the case , than nobody cares . As majority of po population of india is under reservation , OBC alone account for more than 50 % of India's population . So it's not about Upper caste & Lower caste but it's about inequality & power . In India there where no proper action taken by government , like China does against their private landlord . In india this Zamindar doesn't get taxed , as they are classified as Farmer . In india there is no legal definition of farmer , it can be Person who own's farming land , and person who works in farm .
In Short , Upper caste people have fear of being treated as minority , so they will try their best to corrupt & manipulate the System of india .
By the way , I'm from OBC ( Lower caste) . And i personally don't care about their views & behaviour towards us , but only things worry is that they , have land & inherited wealth , and doesn't even get taxed .

Our president is from SC Community . He is one of most generous & leading personality , i have ever seen .
I personally hate upper caste people , as they committee majority of India's serious crime like murder , etc , comparing to that of their population , which account for maximum 20% . As well as they are likely to corrupt , as they doesn't related to majority of population , as they doesn't belong to hence they doesn't care about our condition , etc . But in reality only 2 % of India's marriage is inter caste marriage or inter religion . So you got the answer .
On Quora , Facebook , etc you will find people , who will try their best to prove , that PM & President are from upper caste , just to manipulate or from of nervous insight . As this people are likely to be from upper caste & have valgur mind set . Sometimes it's political too , like political party like BSP , SP try to influence the mass , by doing caste based politics . I have a lot to say!
First off, the Brits didn't rigidify the caste system. It has always been rigid with no mobility. It's based on Manu's laws. The Brits only abided by it because it's deeply entrenched.
Those who say "it's only a rural thing" or "young generation doesn't care" are either ignorant or trying to cloak it. The young generation may not mind socializing but they will rarely downgrade in matrimony. Casteism in urban India is brilliantly cloaked. Check out top honchos in private and public enterprises; check out white collar positions and it's hard to find a lower caste person.
While the lower castes are lucky that they get to eat meat, the history behind this is rather dark. Back in Vedic times, animal sacrifices were common and the lower castes were called upon to clean up. They would use the carcass as food.
Also, in the Vedic times, every caste would eat meat including the priestly and warrior castes. In fact, the vedas talk about offering beef to a Hindu priest. However, with the introduction of Jainism the Hindus had to do something to curb this fast spreading religion with it's non-violent ethos. That's when they switched to vegetarianism.
The biggest insult was when the lady positioned Gandhi as some sort of savior of the lower castes. He was one of the biggest casteists of his day, who went on an indefinite fast to protest the granting of a separate electorate to lower castes/Dalits. Mind you, he was fine with other communities getting separate electorates. "Harijan" is just his red herring to hide his casteism.
I am also shocked that as the narrator and the lady (interviewed) spoke of Constitution, the didn't mention Dr. Ambedkar, the chief architect, the first law minister of India, and a Dalit who championed human rights and labor code in India and fought for decades to get equal rights for Dalits. Indians have literally written Ambedkar's name and work out of the history.

This video is a classic example of "atrocity literature" that uses disinformation and peddles stereotypical tropes in order to paint a bleak picture that's far removed from reality in order to further propaganda and a particular narrative. The truth of the matter is that untouchability has been abolished and declared illegal for decades now.
_This Caste System in India is a three-thousand-year-old Hindu system_

While untouchability has been legally abolished, people still practise it especially in villeges. And laws cannot change the mindset of people nor make them give up their casteist mindset. If you choose to not touch a lower caste then the police cannot even identify that yiu have committed a crime let alone arrest you for it.
Hinduism is not 40000 or 15000 years ago its just 4000 years ago. And considering hinduism has adopted several literatures later in its history, its an invalid argument that the oldest form of hinduism is the most accurate one. By that logic Ramayana and Mahabharatha would have to be non hindu literature because they came much later.
If Britishers are the reason behind caste, then why are you hanging on to it? Why not just give up cazte status and start marrying among castes?

One hotel owner let Indian workers clean 30 rooms each day while American workers cleaned only 18. The owner kept their passports and made them work 7 days a week. They live in the hotel and is at the owners beck and call 24/7. When I tried to be sympathetic to them I was chastised and told that they are used to the work and it’s ok. They got paid below minimum wage and still had money docked for their room. They never complained but I was certain it was humiliating and difficult for them. They rarely have their own transportation so I would take them to the store or pick up fresh fruit and vegetables. They were always so polite, humble and kind. It was heartbreaking to watch but they would never speak up or defend themselves.

Not in East India....even UCs except Brahmins look like poojeet. But it kinda worked in Assam, the Kalitas, Assamese Brahmins and Goriyas(Muslims) have caucasian features more than East India. Casteism was not much in Assam but it was there for marriage so it preserved our genes.....also the topmost officials, actors, media, officers, professors, etc. comes from Kalita and Brahmin community of Assam and sometimes Ahom(mongoloid) and that too without any kind of reservation while the tribals getting so much benefits are still backward......so I think the caste system actually made sense because even with reservation Lower Castes can't compete us.

actually it is not CASTE., it is VARNAM . Varnam referes to Skillset. It is no way discrimination but highlights the skillset everyone has. Of course, it was abused by too many which is a different matter. Thie word "Caste" has come from the West and as per their policies it was easy to divide and rule Indians. For example, we have IT people, Engineers, Doctors etc which is Varnam. Even within , say Doctors, we have Physicians, Surgeons, etc. This is not discrimination but divisions based onskillset & expertise for the sake of conducting things efficiently. So, that is the concept of Varnam. Unfortunately, most Indians won't dig into their own rich cultural knowledge but just cowtow whatever any westerner says.
