    Hello, Thanks for video. Resolved my issue. I just want to add how to remove light assembly by taking out one screw and sliding outward the light assembly and disconnecting light plug.

    I can't see why this fix works. The water should drip into the back compartment and drain down. If it's dripping further forward then sealing that crack should just allow it to more easily drip out of the vent further forward and onto the shelf. But I read all the positive comments and said what the heck and I tried it. My fridge has been leaking onto the top shelf for years and THIS WAS THE FIX! Thanks, kepkopke!

    BLESS YOU, and everybody else who makes You tube videos to show us how to fix things that would cost a bundle if we hired a repairman. This is exactly what my Frigidaire looked like and I fixed the problem with your help in no time. You did something good for other people for now and years to come. You made a difference for all of us. I am 76 years old woman and always being terrified if I have to invite a service man, that would charge me God knows how much for the problems never existed and just for coming. You made me feel not alone with my problem but next to a good friend, ready to give advice and help. THANK YOU!!

    After so many other you tube videos pointed to blocked or frozen drainage tubes/system, my drainage systems were totally clear and the dripping water continued. Then i found your video. Your duct tape trick solved the dripping water problem. Thank you!

    Thank you for this video Kepkopke!! After watching numerous videos and troubleshooting for a clogged defrost drain which I did not find...I was completely stumped!! I did as you instructed and it's mindblowing that a piece of tape (I used foil tape) solved the issue. The fridge has been leaking for years and I was about ready to call a repairman. Now I don't have to. The design engineers at Frigidaire should be ashamed. They should compensate you for uncovering their shortcomings!

    Dude. I cannot thank you enough for posting this. We had a service guy out several times (for free, Frigidaire's customer service department was actually very helpful in setting that up). He installed a new line heater which obviously didn't solve the problem. Huge pain as we had to clear the fridge/freezer and defrost it each time. I've tried everything up to this point and we just learned to live with a bowl in the back of the top shelf of the fridge that we'd empty from time to time. This literally completely solved the problem.
    My only suggestion is that people wait for the part to come to room temperature and be completely dry when you put the tape on to be sure it sticks.
    Thank you so much for posting this!

    Thank you very much!
    Mine (model fftr1814qw1) had a foam gasket around 3 sides, but not the leaking side. I added another lap of 1/4" wide window seal foam around the air duct area and then put the duct tape over the window seal on the edge where you pointed out the gap.
    For those trying to figure out how to get the console off of this model - there's a single 1/4" hex head screw in the hole in the front center. Take that out and then pull the whole console unit towards you. There are two clips near the light that it will pop off of.

      So I checked the comments to see if this help anyone else because my styrofoam was damaged from putting it back the first time. My whole was a coked-up with dirt and I thought that would fix it but it was still leaking but in a different spot now. Like I said my styrofoam was damaged I taped it up. I read your comment and think to myself two clips did I get them, nope, thank you buddy. Had it start leaking again I would have been confused LOL thanks again

    I have the exact same plastic divider on my Frigidaire 1831QF1 model. It was leaking water from the very first day we bought it in June of 2015. We just resorted to putting a plastic container on the top shelf of the fridge to catch all the dripping water, but now after watching this video I know why it's leaking. What a horrible design by the manufacturer. There are so many different ways to prevent this in the product design that wouldn't cost a dime more in production. Thanks!

    This short amateur video saved me a $165 repair bill! I own 10 of the same exact fridge and 3 or 4 all have this same problem. Other videos tell you to open the freezer panel or the tube at the drain pan, but these were all clear. I opened this light fixture unit with one screw and it was filled with ice and gunk. I also have better access to clean the tube now as well. Why doesn't anybody mention this obvious clog point?! THANK YOU!!

    Hi Kepkopke,
    Thanks so much for sharing the video. Wife found this video and this was all I needed to fix the problem in all of10 mins. The issue is an utter design failure of Frigidaire's part. I would fire the designer, QA, QC people and everone who signed off on the design.
    You saved Frigidaire a lot of money in service dispatch costs. I hope they will read this and compensate you for your contribution to fix their problem. Great video bro!

    OMG! I`ve been looking on videos for weeks on this issue with my Frigidare leaking water on the top shelf. They all claim the drain tube is blocked. Not so after taking this apart 3 times, hand steaming drain hole. This has to be the worst design ever made where water is not even going into the drip tray but leaking through by the styrofoam instead. How Dumb!. No more leaks thanks to you with just duct tape.

      I got the part off thanks to other’s comments and photos. My model number is LGHT2046QP1. Mine has no screws. On the edge closest to you there are two plastic clips sticking out from the fridge “ceiling” which anchor the part. You can’t see these clips while the part is in place. If you pull the whole assembly towards you (towards fridge door) part will slide of these clips and come out. Then put duct tape or aluminum tape over gap as shown in video. Looks like gap has resulted from Styrofoam shrinkage. Anyway thanks for the video and thanks to all those who added comments and photos!!!

    What a Godsend. I was at a customers house to fix the refrigerator. I keep refrigerator repair to a minimum but took this one on. I was totally miffed as to what the problem was as there were no ice or gunk clogs. I entered in the model # and behold...your video! I was able to route all further leaking to the hose whose purpose it is to drain off the condensate -- and then charge the customer $85. One thing that might have been additionally helpful in your video would have been to show how that housing detaches. Almost all of them have screws and this one was invisibly attached and took me awhile. Thumbs up!

      Holly Hamilton different frigidaire refrigerators have different interior design, but the drain hole is same with same issue. And each panel removes different way. In this video I just tried to demonstrate how to fix the leak. Sorry, I can't take removal video at customers place. When I meet possibility for this I I'll do it certainly. If yours looks same you can try to do disassembly as listed below.

      kepkopke Thank you for your prompt response. My panel is similar but of course not exactly the same. I will look into it further, but for now I am just glad to see what the problem is. I have also read that the freezer shouldn't be filled too much so I will take care of that. :)

    • @GerryStilton
      @GerryStilton 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Holly Hamilton, if yours is like Kepkopke shown, the first thing is to take off the lamp cover. To do that, there is a plastic tab you can push toward the back of the frig, (don't use too much force or you will snap off the plastic tab and don't pull toward you). Push with hand and use the other hand to gently pull down the cover.
      Now the lamp is exposed. In front of the lamp on the top, there's a tightening screw. unscrew and pull it out. Next, put your left hand in the back where the foam is, this is the spot where you feel the water leak. Use your right hand to hold up the front where the lamp and screw was. Then pull with your left hand from the back of the cover toward you, then you will see it slide off from the clips on top.
      Finally, use a paper towel to wipe off any water, then use a needle nose plyer to pull out the two wire clips for the lamp. Take a picture of the wire positions before you pull it out. Then follow Kepkopke's step to tape over the gap. Put back the two wire clips and put the cover back on. Now you're done.
      Thanks Kepkopke!

      I figured it out!. Grab it from all the way in the back. Give it a twist and pull. Boom, it's off! Let's see if the duct tape fix does the trick!

      Dan Stegmaier I just tried it and it’s not coming out. which way what do you twist?

      @@MrSpongy04 I just tried again and I guess it wasn't that easy, but I did pull it off again. Basically grab it in the back where the spout is. Twist batch and forth (pretty rough I doubt you will break anything) and it will come off. Here are some pictures of the underside to get a better idea. imgur.com/a/rov4jBw

      You do have to get mad at it. I've been dealing with it for 3+ years. The counterclockwise/clockwise twisting aggressively, along with some back/forth tugging should do the trick. Good luck!

    What kind of duct tape is that you're using?

    • @kepkopke
      @kepkopke  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      earl0520 any kind! You can use anything that stays flexible wthout cracks at low temperature and contact with water and sticks with plastic in such environment. I have a lot of this tape that's why I use it. Electric tape works too. But it must be wide enough to cover the gap with styrofoam and plastic together. Scotch tape. And so on. Gap is a main issue. You can also use your imagination to choose a suitable material. Good luck! And thank you for watching!

      I removed the cover , unscrewed light bulb , removed the 1 hex screw ..... I gently loosened each side a tiny bit ( had been there 5 yrs ) with thin putty knife blade , then I pried through each slot to release the plastic catches ... then it dropped down .. was not clogged , I taped over the joint as shown in video
