@@fullmetalandtheflame438 The confrontation between Neville and Mary in Act II, just before "Hold On," kinda made me wonder how exactly Neville was treated by his parents, particularly his father. Probably has a lot to do with why he's so emotionally closed off most of the time. I'm not making excuses for him, but that kind of abuse is, quite often, generational.
I just CANNOT get over the gorgeous shimmering dissonance they get on the "ee" vowel right at the end. You can tell it was planned by the extra time they give it, with both of them emphasizing the "pointy" overtones, followed by the resolution to such a resonant open vowel for the last note. Absolutely gorgeous tone control.
The breath control of Cheyenne Jackson! He sings the entire last phrase without taking a breath before the final note...and looks like he could keep going. He makes it look effortless.
Cheyenne Jackson is INCREDIBLE to be able to pull his presence so strong on stage with THE RAMIN KARIMLOO, that man's stage presence is HUGE and Cheyenne is pulling through. I love it. I LOVE IT.
One of the most beautiful songs in musical theatre sung by two of the best musical theatre performers! Absolutely stunning! I really wish there was a pro shot of this show and an official cast recording. Ramin and Cheyenne are spectacular!
I was in this audience and I agree it was the definitive version. I will never forget that evening. Ramin and Sierra and Ben Platt and Cheyenne should do the revival as soon as Broadway reopens
One of my favorite songs of all time and these guys do an amazing job. I was in this show my sophomore year of high school and got sooo many jokes about my name. I do, in fact, have hazel eyes.
If anyone wants to see the whole concert, Angie Rollins has it uploaded under the title "The Furtive Backyard". Looks like it was already taken down once, so download it while you can.
you know, it just doesn't seem right that two men can be so talented and gorgeous and be thrust together to give us this. yes, I loved the original - but dear Mandy and Robert could only dream of sounding(and looking) like this!

Those are the scores - I think they were just more concerned with making sure the cast knew the music than they were with it looking good. Really the only thing about this show that I didn't like, because it's distracting. :/
In a concert staging (which this was) the performers sit in chairs on stage and carry the score. Blocking, scenery, lights and props are minimal, and the orchestra is usually onstage rather than in a pit. That's the custom, even though the principals are nearly always "off book." The idea is that the music is the focus, not the spectacle, and you can mount some amazing shows without the investment for a full production. The Encores! series at City Center has been doing this for many years, and some great shows (like Chicago) have been (re)born to full Broadway productions as a result.
Omg like a dumbass i thought it had a special meaning for the plot/story and couldnt explain it even tho i had read the book and googled it. Im so stupid lol. I never thought that they would carry the score around on stage
Ok Cheyenne is giving a half ass performance here...first of all completely miscast...wooden and disconnected from his character...weak vocally here, very soft and lazy sounding...No inner conflict...and standing with his arms crossed why would a stage actor stand like that clenching a book brought a song and standing like a choir boy...he closes us off from him by crossing his arms and it’s a vocally weak performance.
Did u maybe even think that the director and choreographer told him to do that-_- ??? Or do u just go ahead insulting. They are actord . On stage and should follow what the others say
Not to mention. They had ONE WEEK to put this show together. Cheyenne sounds wonderful. I’ve watched this over a million times. And I am classically trained. His motivation is Lily never loved him. He can be portrayed as mopey. He’s an actor. I can almost guarantee as a musical theatre actress myself. He’s doing exactly what the the director said.

Absolutely one of the most magnificent male duets ever written.
"those eyes that loved my brother never me" gets me everytime.
I laughed so hard at this
I don’t feel sorry for him. He’s a monster in the musical. Truly a horrible person. Archie is a good man but Neville is absolutely horrible.

This. Yes. Can listen to it over and over and over. Tension....and resolution.
This song is just so emotional for both of these characters. And these men crushed it! So beautiful

Ramin is so freaking intense! It's like he's always on fire for what he's singing. That finale is incredible!
Did the chills ever stop? No.
Man, I love this song! These videos are just making me want a Broadway revival of this show so badly!
a revival with the same cast, I can only dream!
Yes! The entire 25th anniversary cast was superb!
They announced it is coming back to Broadway in the 2018-2019 season
I love how Ramin puts his hand to his heart in the song , it shows so many emotions , they nailed this performance 🙌
That violin part after “loved my brother never me” is amazing!!!
Never noticed it - thanks for pointing it out :)
RAMIN WHY ARE YOU SO AMAZING
I wish someone would upload the whole concert, this is to me the definitive rendition of the score!

This was a gift to see live for a number of reasons, but this was definitely a highlight number in a life of theater-going!
Ramin and 25th anniversary!
Ramin has to be one of the best vocalists alive
Wow! So beautiful.
How this musical has never been adapted for big screen is beyond me.
When the video started and i couldn't see their faces, I swore it was Mandy Patinkin reviving his role. Ramin sounds exactly like him.
um, no
Chills from the first note to the last. This song is beautiful and I can't imagine it being done any better than that. Amazing!!
Finally a rendition that comes close to the perfection that is Warlow and Quast!
I was there!! This performance gave me total goosebumps! Thanks SO much for posting!!
You're so lucky!
I LOVE THIS SONG
I thought my favorite rendition was Will
Chase and Steven Pasquale....but HELLO! of course all 4 of those men are amazing and GORGEOUS!
Best combo ever 🙌😥😪😭💚

These guys are awesome! Wish the singers didn't have to push the tempo because the conductor's dragging so much.
This!
Was this concert recorded, or available for purchase somewhere? I'm going to die if I can't hear this whole performance
A good version but Philip Quast and Anthony Warlow nailed it back in the 90s. Theirs is the BEST ever.
I beg to differ Mandy Patinkin and Robert Westenbergs was the best
