I love the tin on this set, which is what caught my eye initially, but then the colors were very unusual for a set too. I haven’t used it much, but a still very happy I have it in my collection! Tfs
Really beautiful colours but it's a strange combination over all. Each row looks beautiful together though. I like the bottom row best. A lovely set of colours but I wouldn't have put them together in the same tin. I would have had them in 3 separate tins with other colours more suited to each row. But this way you get to try 3 different sets I suppose. The top row is so bright & vibrant. The magenta is stunning and is now on my wanted list. It is a lovely tin, very pretty and love the pallette part. It's nice to have nice things during the lockdownm makes the day more bright.
@@SpookyRooster135 You're very right, it IS a strange combination of colours! My favourites are also the shadowy ones, but I also like having a colour palette that is unusual and not really what one would consider as a standard range of colours. 🙂
@@BeckyTregear It arrived yesterday. & looks great. I like the choice of colours because they are different from what I would instinctively pick myself. I noticed that bunching the pans up close, I can fit an extra one in for each row. ie. another 3 colours can fit in the box... but what to pick ?
The 3 primaries are lemon yellow, magenta & helio cerulean then their complementaries Ultramarine Violet, Permanent Green & Saturn red then the 3 dark tones Perylene violet, Payne's bluish & Perylene green... so I was thinking to add cadmium yellow, turquoise and sepia ? Any thoughts ?
@@pandoraefretum Thanks for the update, that's great to hear! So many decisions, choosing extras. I might get some more to add to in my set too. I think I'd choose a redder red as one of them.
Here in Washington State, we are not currently so restricted, but it's been a roller-coaster of anxiety and uncertainty over the last five months. I feel for you! Stay well, Becky, and hopefully we can all get through this with our humor, creativity, and sanity intact. I really appreciate your uploads and those Schmincke paints look fantastic. * thumbs up *
Thank you! The rest of Australia is doing ok for now, but our numbers got out of control and refuse to go down, which is why we are severely locked down now. From tomorrow everything will be shut except for essential places like supermarkets and pharmacies. Art shops sadly are not considered essential, lol! But anyway, I am trying to stay positive and at least I have plenty of art supplies in my studio to keep me occupied. It's a good chance to use them all! 😁
So funny that your finger got into the Dioxazine Purple again! Lol! I can't believe you're in Stage 4 Lockdown; what a huge bummer. Hang in there. I love the tin on this paint set. You have all the fun toys, lol. Looking forward to seeing you use it.
I seem to love Schmincke’s annual limited editions, it is another year on and this year I bought two! I think it is as much for the palettes as for the pigments…. I got the ultimate mixing set, it has loads of room for personalisation and I am having fun doing that. I probably should have bought paper instead but could not resist Cass Arts special narrow box of 12, it really is lovely, no room for expansion at all though except possibly by adding a brush or two. For the first time with the mixing set I am actually mixing brands as well when adding to it, a mix of Sennelier and Jackson’s, I can always swap them out if I think they do not work together. I hope your floods have given way to a lovely spring/early summer, here in the U.K. we have like many places this year also had torrential rains. I hope the horrible lurgy has subsided in Melbourne now. We have no restrictions now, but since a resurgence with the addition of several nasty flu strains I am back in self isolation, but my garden has been a great help and we have a very lovely new cat visitor, abandoned by their owner, and a neighbour and I are sharing the care of it until so it effectively has homes it can rely on. Winter is definitely here and I am now painting a lot so hopefully there nice boxes will get put to good use. The new slim box can also be got filled with student colours, but the one I got is a nice set of Horadam. Hehe, showing me a new kind of paint box is like you visiting that pen show! I just came across this video again, and hope that this year has been a vast improvement for you. Keep safe and Hapoy. x
I love limited edition palettes! Schmincke make some awesome ones and I have had to restrain myself from buying more of them, lol. Rain and floods are still happening around the country, and it looks like we will have a wet summer again. Lurgy numbers have gone up again too, which they did around this time last year and over Christmas/January. We seem to get waves during all seasons here. Most of us have given up and are just going out anyway - I wondered if I might catch something at the Pen Show, but thankfully that didn't seem to happen. 😬
I have this exact set, it arrived around three weeks ago, but ?I am about to move house, and haven’t unwrapped the pans yet, so this is my first glimpse of what it can do, and the slightly unusual colour choices. This is my second Schmincke special offer I have the other is the little box they offered last year. I absolutely understand how you feel about lockdown, I have been sheltering here in the U.K. since March, and it only ended at the end of last week, and now another large city has been locked down again, I would be devastated if it happened to mine. I will get to go out for the first time in two weeks. I have many friends and family living in Melbourne and my heart is with them right now. I hope as time goes on your mind settles and your creativity comes pouring in, it certainly is a crazy time for the world. Stay well in the storm. P.S. there is room for an extra pan in each row. More excuse for paint! Perhaps you could add three of their new granulating colours.
Oh I hope you don't have to go back into lockdown, it's so massively frustrating! But I'm just trying to get through it and not get too depressed (our winter weather isn't helping). I'm so thankful for art supplies that are getting me through. I am sure you are going to love the set when you get a chance to settle in your new place! I would definitely add more pans, and I see those new granulating colours - is it bad that I want all of them? LOL! That may well be a future video if I manage to get my hands on all of those tubes (trying not to bankrupt myself in the process). @@BeckyTregear Oh, I guess I wasn't clear; I received mine about the same time you did yours. I don't know if it's available again; since receiving mine from Jacksons I haven't checked for it. I am really just now starting to feel like painting again; here in Michigan we have been in pretty serious lockdown too, and very cold weather with lots of snow. We just had three beautiful days of sun and Spring-like weather, but snow is in the forecast for Friday. 😥 Spring here isn't usually until about the end of April. Sigh. i love my rural life.. i dont leave my premises lol.. and shop every day? lol i shop once a month and even then its delivered.. i always say i been self isolating since forever .. definitely different in the way they put the colours together.. i can see landscapes and seascapes though for sure x
I'm a city girl through and through! 😂 I don't go to the shops every day anyway but it is more the psychological issue of knowing we can't go which makes it harder. I am sure living out in the country would put a different perspective on things. ♥️
You will love this box for plein aire. I took out the metal..but the paints onto a sturdy cardboard so i could easily lift in and out. I made another cardboard palette with other paints and can remove from a plastic box i store them in, and i have another color scheme...this palette balances perfectly and the mini wells hold enough mixed paint without leaking allover.
That's a really great idea! I am considering taking the insert out mainly because it is quite bulky and the tin would hold do many more pans if they were stuck in without it.
@@BeckyTregear I took the metal holder out too, and cut magnetic tape to stick to the bottom of the pans to hold them in. I have a lot more room now, but haven't decided what colors to add in yet. Also a lot less weight without all that metal. 👍😊💐
I have this set too. Lovely colors and I always like how easy it is to activate Schmincke pans. I knew this color selection would challenge me and I guess maybe I have discovered I don’t like mixing SO many of my colors. I’m going to do a one month painting per day challenge with them and if they don’t click after that then I’m going to drop a few half pans in since there is room. I do tend to grab special editions from Schmincke when they are in this palette shape...it fits so nicely in my hand when painting (and I can vouch that if the insert is pulled out of one of these tins, you can get 32 standard half pans in there lol.)
I love how easily they reactivate too! Sounds like a great idea to do multiple paintings, which I've also done. I'd definitely add a deeper red, maybe a cobalt or ultramarine blue and a bright green. Or just pull the insert out and add heaps of colours, lol!
This looks like a very good palette. I was thinking about ordering it as well but then I found out about Schmincke's 15 new granulating colours and ordered them instead. I feel sorry for you guys down there and I hope things are getting better in Victoria soon. Can't wait to see more videos.

I bought this and I love it, but that Saturn red just throws me off...I added pyrrole red, nickel ago yellow, dioxazine violet and Verona red earth from Roman Szmal. That way, I have a split primary and some fun colors in it.
Love your cat! Thankfully, Townsville, Nth Qld were fortunate enough not to have had a 'Melbourne type' lockdown. Im desperate to try Schminke watercolours! #jealousabit
The shape of this tin is excellent. With artheritic hands and getting weaker it balances perfectly and the little " wells" are an excellent choice for smaller mixes...esp while painting plein aire on anything up to an 9× 12....i paid 100 for one with student grade paints..just so i woukd have 2 of them and promptly gave away the paints to someone i terested in learning watercolor....which comes first eating or palettes....palettes of course.
Hi Becky! Thanks for sharing this beautiful box of paints. I've looked in Jacksons (it's now October) and just couldn't find this particular edition anywhere. Can you tell me the name of the edition please? I'm starting to collect the gorgeous tins, and this one is a stunner! (So are the colours...) thanks!
I just had a look on Jackson's now, and the page I originally went to is now showing up as a 404 Not Found page! I am not sure if this is a temporary error or if they're completely out of stock forever, but I will definitely keep an eye out for it. It was described as Schimincke Horadam Watercolour Limited Edition 9 Full Pan Set.
I like this set but about 1/2 the colors are in my other schmincke set But as you said it is an interesting palette size and I do not have the perylene green or violet. I like the vibe of the bottom row of colors together but not sure what I would make with them. I love my paynes grey bluish it is one of my most used colors in the palette ( almost like a nice indigo). Thanks for another great video.
I'm in agreement with you; the shadowy colours are my favourite in the set. Oh and I like the blue violet too. The Saturn red is a bit too orange, I would have gone for Ruby or Geranium, if I got to choose, lol.
Thanks for this video! Your swatch card makes me seriously want to buy this set - a very unusual and beautiful color selection. BTW: The Schmincke web site provides the logic behind the color selection: lemon yellow, magenta, and helio cerulean are three primary colors (yellow, magenta, cyan). Ultramarin violet, permanent green olive, and saturn red are three secondary colors (purple, green, and orange). Perylene violet, perylene green, and Paynes' grey are three darks. www.schmincke.de/en/current-promotions.html
Thank you, I hadn't seen that description, that's really helpful! It is still quite an odd bunch of colours, especially now I've used the set for a while. I do love the ultramarine violet though, it's so pretty!
Becky you are beautiful, and don't need to wear make up if you don't feel like it, even in from of the camera, surely people shouldn't judge you on your make up or hair, especially in these times. I absolutely love your videos, and they make me forget what we are living at the moment. I'm sorry Melbourne has to be so strict again, I can only wish all this is over soon! Take care!
Aww thank you! ♥️ It's more that I've been living in track pants for months on end and haven't 'dressed up nice' for ages, and my hair REALLY needs a trim because it's getting super knotty. I think I'll be taking to it with scissors myself soon! 😂 I'm glad my videos are helping you to escape, it's so important to have time away from the harsh reality of this world right now. Take care!
@@BeckyTregear I'm sure everyone is in track pants at best this year 😂 I do a "ladies night" with my toddler, where we dress up nice, have a "fancy dinner", do a hair treatment then a bubble bath and just pamper ourselves to feel special every now and then despite of the situation and all restrictions, maybe something like that could help you feel not so locked up? So lucky we can order things online and receive parcels in our doorstep, I can't imagine what this would be like without posties and all people working hard through the stress of this time!
I'm not much for the tin palettes but I really did lust after the Schmincke ones at one point. I ended up buying tube paint from them instead, but I love this shape, the fact that it's full pans, and the color selection! It's been a few years, have you used it much?
Yes I've used it a bit off and on - and it's still full, lol. It fits an extra half pan on each row so I added in some missing colours and it is a bit more of a useful palette overall.
@@BeckyTregear I ended up buying this just recently, although my tin is just black. I saw it at Jackson's and couldn't help myself. Did you realize the primaries mix to neutral with their compliments? That's part of the color selection, I think. I'm also adding some colors. If you remove the insert you can fit in 18 full pans!
It's hard not to get M. Graham Dioxazine Violet on one's fingers given the honey content and pigment load. 😆 That pigment, regardless of the brand, seems to stain _everything_ it touches.

I have been using the palette today and the saturn red is SO much brighter than all of the others! I like the sound of the additions you made. 💙
It is definitely an easy tin to handle, and I'm glad it is helping you to continue painting! 😄💜

The Saturn red is a bit too orange, I would have gone for Ruby or Geranium, if I got to choose, lol.
you had me at CAT!

Take care!
@@BeckyTregear I'm sure everyone is in track pants at best this year 😂
I do a "ladies night" with my toddler, where we dress up nice, have a "fancy dinner", do a hair treatment then a bubble bath and just pamper ourselves to feel special every now and then despite of the situation and all restrictions, maybe something like that could help you feel not so locked up?
It really does! I keep finding things stained with purple and I have no idea how it got there, lol.
Enjoy the jabba jabba, hang in there!
so cool split primary schminke set! I'd really like to try something like this, they don't sell it in my country sadly :(
I've not seen these in Australia either, I had to get it shipped from the UK. Perhaps Jackson's Art ships to your country as well?
Becky Tregear Art oh actually they do! Thanks for the info on the shop! I’ve been browsing Jackson’s art supplies for a few days I love it!
@@haloiniastrid yay, that's great! I know this Scmincke set keeps getting sold out and being restocked periodically. They have so much awesome stuff on their website 😃
