    The Tundra Orange is very important to exist in this series, because it's the only yellow-ish color they have. If one had money to buy only 1 set, the Tundra set is the most "complete" in terms of colors (you get yellow, a pink, and a blue). Also buy the Galaxy Pink, which is more red than the Tundra pink, and you won't need any of the other colors to make complete paintings. Instead, if someone buys the sea or forest sets, they can get stuck, unless they combine them with other types of paints for more color variety. If someone has money only for that one Tundra set, and not to buy an additional Galaxy Pink tube (they're expensive at $24 per tube), you can get the White Nights Caput Mortum for $3. It complements the set perfectly. I made 3 paintings using these colors exactly (tundra + caput mortum), and didn't need additional help from other paints to get all the shades needed.

      Great insights! I agree that Tundra is the most versatile set with its more varying array of colours. I have favourites from each set. 😊

    • @waymire01
      @waymire01 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      By far the most versatile thing is to buy a nice selection of the base shades and go to town mixing.. that is what I did. You can mix them together or add them to your existing non granulating colors to get all the variety you need. So many are the same or similar colors over and over.. you don't even need them all... potters pink and mars black take you a long way alone. Add mars brown, a light and dark of a granulating green and blue.. you probably already have many of them if you have a largish collection of paint.. cerulean, cobalt, ultramarine, granulating browns, etc are typical. It's all in how you use them. I've been having a blast especially for backgrounds, I paint a lot of florals and small animals and they give a great "macro lens" effect with no effort at all, just toss them on wet paper and maybe a few water blooms for funsies. You can also mix all those so called "genuine" Daniel Smith colors while you are at it... and do it better with out fugitive pigments. That said.. I totally agree if I were to buy any it would be Tundra.

      I’m so glad that the only super granulation set I have is Tundra. I bought it exactly because it appeared to have the widest color range. But, I have not tried even a single painting with it, other than swatching the five colors. So afraid of messing up these expensive pigments 🥵.

    I've never used these granulating watercolours before, but I have to say, I love the "Tundra" set the most - and I think if you did a mixed media piece maybe with some of the orange along with sepia ink, it would look great!! The orange could be used as a highlight colour in that case, although I really enjoyed how it looked when you used it as a shadow colour on your polar bears!!! 👏👏👏👏 Well done Becky, and thank-you so much for this video!! As a German in Australia I love Schmincke products. I have all 5 sets of these paints, without the tins unfortunately, because when they came out there were no tins.
    Some people talked in a bad way about these paints because they are 'just' mixes from usual pigments. That is fine by me. Nobody has to buy them if they don't want to. I like that Schmincke is telling the customer exactly what is in their paints. Let's not mention the Daniel Smith Primatek scandal...

      @@waymire01 I have a bunch of the single pigment paints too...next week I will be sorting all of my Schmincke paints, so you will see all of the other ones I have, lol. But for all of that I still love all the supergranulation mixes too, and all together they make a pretty cool palette. 💜

    I agree - that Tundra Violet is simply gorgeous. I have all of the Super Granulating sets as dot cards, but that's it. Can't wait to get them out and do a tiny little painting with each of them. Ah, so much to do, so little time. Your paintings are really pretty. Love those polar bears!

      Thank you! I'll be very interested to see what paintings you come up with using the dot cards! Add to the enormous videos to make list, lol 😂

    I enjoyed watching you swatch and paint. I loved all the paintings can’t choose lol. Would love to see you decorate the boxes. In a past video haul you got some monte marte paper, it may have been a block. I was wondering what you thought of it.? I saw some in my local store and I hesitate to purchase it

      Thank you! The Mont Marte 100% cotton paper is really nice and I totally recommend it! If you look through my videos from a few months ago there is one called Painting Pansies and I am pretty sure that is on the large Mont Marte block. Also the Unicorn painting I did a month or so ago is on that paper too.

    I was really, REALLY looking forward to you swatching & demo-ing these 2 sets, in particular the Tundra set - somehow I always thought that these 2 sets were intended to be compatible to use with each other on the same painting, don’t know where I got that idea from though… Becky I just LOVE, LOOOOVED ur polar bear paintings… they remind me of an incredible artist I follow on Instagram, whose name is just ‘davidmceown’, he specialises in watercolour paintings of nature and in particular the artic - it’s animals and flora, u probably already follow him I imagine… if deliveries from overseas weren’t so challenging & at risk of being lost (as is happening to me right now with a parcel from America that I paid for in January & the sender won’t even reply to my emails about not getting them) - I would’ve bought the Tundra set. I know that I can get the set delivered to me by DHL if I ordered from Jacksons but that just doubles the price of the set - but hey, I’d probably pay double the price here in Australia if it was possible to buy these sets from here anyway…

      Thank you! There will be a follow up soon of me organising my Schmincke paints. I put all of the supergranulation ones together and it has made a pretty cool and interesting palette! They definitely can be used together and I will no doubt do more with them. I ordered these from Jackson's not too long ago with the cheapest tracked postage; they arrived within two weeks so that was pretty good. I am pretty sure Senior Art Supplies in Melbourne has all of the individual tubes, but they cost around $35 each so are considerably more expensive!
