You’re very right. The first time I went out to walk for 20 minutes, my knees, toes, hips and lower back hurts. Then I researched how to walk and doing exactly what you’re teaching, I can walk more than an hour without any parts hurting. I also warm up with some easy stretches and cool down stretches after my walk.
I’m in PT and we’re working mainly on glute strength to assist in healing my torn meniscus and stage 2-4 osteoarthritis. Using resistance bands have been fabulous in helping me to activate my glute muscles. I do clam shells, lateral side, steps, and terminal knee extension’s with a band. I’ve had HUGE gains in just 6 weeks! I’ll add your exercises and see what gains I experience. Understanding anatomy and what skeletal muscles do what work to support what else is fascinating to me! Thank you for adding this piece to your videos.
I have spinal stenosis - L4, L5. What you are saying here is EXACTLY what my therapists are telling me. I got your book and it is so helpful. This just goes to strengthen what my therapists are telling me and makes me more determined to get out of these walking issues without surgery and drugs! Thank y9us so much, Will,
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge in simple and practical ways . I am a 65years old strong female. Lately I am having frequent knee pains and muscle and bone pain all around lower parts s of my body which makes me not wanting to walk. But watching your videos keep encouraging me to do whatever I can to keep my strength and mobility. 13:56
The best video ever . Unfortunately with big feet and flat foot I had been walking barefoot around the house as a result I was stressing my knees . After your video I threw away all my shoes that are flexible and foldable in-half shoes . I am starting your tips late in life (76 ). But better late than never !

Thanks so much for your helpful videos. I'm working thru your book too and I can honestly report, your information and tips have been much more helpful than the shots and acupuncture and endless visits to the chiropractor and MD. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Wow - I tried these before dancing and my knee felt great and especially the sitting glute exercise - I felt so much more power and stability in my legs Thankyou from Australia!
Thank you, I fell then fainted backwards landing on my son's Octogan weights...15 mths ago. I new something was broken or many things but my ma was dying and I was not going to the hospital anymore she needed me. I ended up almost biting the dust. I have worked my way back with youtube videos walking and dog grooming. Some didn't think I would recover but I have kids and their dad is a dick. I have MS and they all thought that was it but I knew. Never give up, Never Surrender.
Can do the exercise with band after the knee surgery .and can you show some exercise after knee surgery almost after 2 months . I have horrible pain after the partial knee surgery .
Healing after tearing 2 knee ligaments I couldn't walk right and was embarrassed to go outside because of the way I would walk (limp) and it started to hurt because I walked like that for a few months I tried some knee exercise's that helped for the moment. But really it's about the way I was walking thanks to this video now I can walk normal again. (still pain)
I heard years ago that it's important to straighten your leg on the 'heal' part of the step, so the ligament stays flexible. What do you think about that Dr Harlow? Thankyou for this video, I get a bit shuffly sometimes but now I know how important it is to engage correct sequence of movement. 🦖You're lovely 🌟
Thank you for the kind words! Yes, it is important to get full extension of the knee if possible but this can sometimes be painful for people with existing problems. In these cases, we often recommend keeping a "soft" knee until the problem can be addressed. Hope the video helped!
@@HT-Physio yes, this video made me realise I may have been in danger of tripping over my toes! And I will keep my knee 'soft' for a bit longer, until my toes have been retrained to lift up properly. Thankyou for taking the time to offer wise advice and accurate instruction. Goodnight dear, God Bless you Will Harlow.
I agree with most of what you just explained except for the heel first thing. Could you explain that more because I have mostly seen professionals indicate to not use heel but ball of foot. Thanks, I really enjoy your videos.
Hey Will I am a great fan of toyr videos I am 70 and have recently been diagnosed with degenerative disc disease LR L5 per the MRI pain in one leg the left one I have had this foa good 6 months Also foraminal stenosis at that level Can I do these exercices as well Thank you
Hi Will, I do a lot of walking( 3 or 4 miles a day) in normal everyday shoes, I dislike trainers. What are your thoughts on cushioned insoles and the best type’s please. Thank you in anticipation.
Hello, I’m new to your channel but find it very useful and helpful. Could you please advise? I have been diagnosed with right hip arthritis I have been folloyyou with exercises and stretching which has been so helpful but could help as to why I’m not really suffering hip pain but awful right knee pain but only when I lay down to sleep!! I’ve tried using a pillow which has helped but just don’t understand why this is only an issue when I want to sleep and it can last for a few hours then settles could it be nerve pain?!
Are there exercises to get from walking, which has no knee pain, to running, which has knee pain due to knee valgus on the right knee? The right knee had an ACL injury and now osteoarthritis. Thanks
