Sleeping Baby Elephant Khanyisa Lies at the Feet of Tokwe, Lundi & Fishan

- Khanyisa is our nap time inspiration! Watch how carefully Tokwe and Lundi stand around the sleeping calf to ensure that they don’t stand on her. It’s lovely to see these elephants all together - with Fishan, the gentle protector and Pisa, Tokwe’s second born daughter. Tokwe is especially nurturing, prioritising Khanyisa as she is more vulnerable while lying down.
It’s a hot day and the herd enjoy the little shade that they can find. Khanyisa gets the benefit of the shade cast by the big elephants’ bodies as well as the sand shaken over her by the trunks around her.
For such giant animals, you can see how quiet they are, with only the sounds of their ears flapping and sand spraying making a gentle noise to let us know they’re there.
Their protection of their little ones & each other is just beautiful. They really are gorgeous animals! 🥰❤️🙏🐘
The patience they have to stand there in the hot sun until Khanisia woke up. I admire them for that.
My heart melts when I see them all caring for the baby .

So dedicated. So caring. All so careful and respectfully in tune with each other. Every once in awhile, for few seconds, they all just stop for a quick doze, just like whales do. Quite magical.

Incredible, precious, inspiring, beautiful. Humans should strive to be this loving at all times to the vulnerable , sick , weak and young in society.
Trust our little girl to find a safe place to lay down. It amaze me how the bigger elephants don't tread on her.

I love it to see the strong bond between Tokwe and Lundi. To take care and stand guard and protect, the little ones but also the whole Herd. Being the mothers of all .
I never tire of seeing these beautiful Ellies protecting the baby of the herd. When I think of how cruel nature can be, (particularly in the bush) their love and devotion to her is so heartwarming and precious💖
What a help and comfort Fishan is - still contributing greatly to his herd despite his injury. I suppose he helps highlight that when life changes your capabilities, you find a way to positively and happily adapt. ❤

I love the elephant more each time I watch a video about them. This specific herd tho~ they truly melt my damn heart! They are just THE NEATEST species on the planet!! Smh I mean REALLY--even the prime mate wouldn't shade their loved one. As wonderful as the dog is ( I think the dog n elephant are tied really😁❤️🐶) idt even a momma dog would shade her pup...would she?? Idt she would. Here these orphaned elephants ...SMH theyre shading a herd member who truly is not even (not genetically I mean) a member of their herd--not as far as their bloodlines are concerned. Smdh just blows my mind!! Absolutely astonishing to know and witness. My loyalties have naturally always been w the dog. I LOVE me some dogs, rite~ but if I had the type of life that allowed me to have direct contact w the elephant as much as I've had or have w the K9??? I wonder if the dog would still rank in my eyes as high as it does. The elephant is just absolutely remarkable and I truly love them, especially this herd!

The Elephants are parked like semi-trucks at a truck stop.
The Elephants are like trucks that are idling at rest.
As they swing their trunks around and sniff the air then shooting air out it is not unlike air compressors that govern out at high pressure with an air shot.
Ears flapping like engine fans keeping the engines cool.
The Elephants take their DOT required 30 minute break till they're rested up and they can continue driving through the bush picking up and dropping off loads of tree limbs, leaves, and roots.

I have noticed (or wondered) that the adult elephants seem almost uncomfortable when the little ones sleep. And that they often wake them up? I assume it's because the babies are at their most vulnerable.

When I first read 2918, I thought it meant September 2nd, 2018, but in a later comment it said Fishan had his accident in 2018, which made me realize the earlier number was a typo😂. But what an amazing video😮. The elephants put us humans to shame😢. We could learn a lot from them, that’s for sure😊

I remember when the herd first got Khanyisa they would not let her lie down, just like wild herds do with their babies. Do they allow her now because she is bigger?
You couldn’t get 4 human adults to stand so quietly and unmoving over a child for this long. They are very purposeful about what they are doing. Not looking around for something to eat or doing anything other than standing watch over the baby of the herd and doing so in such a way that would make the baby as comfortable as possible and protect the babies skin. This is intelligence at a very high level on display. We should take careful note. These wonderful creatures of God are every bit as intelligent as we are and have some truly unusual communication skills.

It is so nice to see how protected Khaynisa 🐘 is. I do feel a little sorry for Pisa 🐘 wanting mom's attention. I am glad Fishan 🐘was giving it to her. It makes me wonder if she will accept Khaynisa's presence in her stall. Time will tell. It just amazes me that those big ellie feet are so gentle not to step on our sleeping meisekind 🐘.

Pisa may be a bit jealous but the sleeping group Khanyisa will be in has her allomothers Kumbura and Limpopo so Tokwe, Pisa's mother, will have help in caring for Khanyisa. Fishan will also make sure both youngsters get ample attention. I only wish Lundi was in that group but she has her boy Mambo to attend to and we all know what a character he is! LOL!

Just aMEISIEing to see the HERD protecting our dear Khanyisa like. The trust and love between them is obvious. My family calls me "TIMIstified" cause I'm always looking for beautiful Timisa. Maybe she's with Kumbura and Limpopo, but I always lookout for her. Fishan is just fantastic how he likes to spend time with the females. Maybe he feels protected by them, too. But what this video tells me is that Khanyisa, napping like that so soundly at their feet, should bode well for the upcoming transition to the Homestead. Can't wait. Thanks HERD!

How peaceful they all are. I normally watch all videos as the are posted, so do not know how I missed when it happened but just noticed the big chunk out of Fishan's right tusk
They sleep the same way I do. As much as we like to think we are so different from animals, I beg to differ. We are so much like animals. We care for the young, we form social circles, they care for their community. I mean I could go on. You all know what I mean. Seems the difference is that they have more common sense than humans. For sure. I put more stock in animals than any human. I love our beautiful elephants!
Fish-" These ladies need a steadygoing, sensible, mature chap like me around. Some of the younger ones can get a bit flighty at times. They need someone to keep an eye on them all. Besides they can be quite amusing company."
6:10 and 6:48 it's really interesting how all the elephants suddenly go still here, and remain motionless for several seconds, before resuming their ear flapping and dust-bathing. I've seen video of elephants doing that before, and I wonder if it means they have heard a far away communication from other elephants, like vibration in the ground, and they are listening.
