The Bulls also had Pippen for a couple of those series and a great supporting cast when he was winning champions ..Bill Russel said that others had better states than him but he had more W's.. Bird was a team player and that's how you win..

Larry Bird would effect the game in so many ways. He would help his team win without making a single shot in the basket.

well in the playoffs, out of 6 stats, Bird and Mike are TIED.. 3 each. so OBVIOUSLY the celtics DONT sweep the bulls WITHOUT Bird.. and since the Celtics WITHOUT bird never won more than 48 games in a season (42 in 89) i dont think they beat the bulls without bird.. Yea Jordan had better scoring and defense, but bird STRETCHED THE FLOOR, was able to PLAYMAKE MORE and DOMINATED the boards more than Mike. Bird also set more screens and took more charges and was probably a better TEAM defender.. Bird MADE good players into HALL OF FAMERS.. Jordan didnt elevate his teamates like that.

To really understand Bird’s game you need to watch a full game. It’s how he positions himself for rebounds, setting screens. My favorite is Bird would go to same spot & then show the defender all the ways he can score. Or some games he’ll set tendencies for 3 quarters the in 4th break them and defenses. Watch Bird’s game 6 in 86 finals vs Houston. Bird was everywhere on every play on both ends. The numbers don’t reflect the impact he had. MJ is more athletic but Birds Iq gave him the edge.
MJ is my 1a LB 1b then everyone else.

the celtics game plan was to let mike score and shut everyone else down.. so while you guys PRAISE jordan and his LOSING effort.. he played right into the Celtics gameplan.. mike was dumb and selfish early on in his career..

I believe the Pistons and Celtics are the only teams to have a winning record vs Mike in the playoffs.. The unfortunate knicks and their fans (me included) face Jordan something like 29 times in the playoffs from the late 80s to mid 90s. won 10 games, including taking the bulls to 7 in 92.. sigh... . . .

Stats mean little if you don't win.
The special thing about Larry Bird was his basket ball brain and understanding of the game.
Larry Bird always knew where everyone was on the field and decided based on that whether the best way forward would be to take the shot or pass the ball to another player and that made Celtic so good in the 1980s. It was never because Celtic necessarily had the best players. It simply means Celtic was successful because they could play as a team and Larry Bird was the director of that.
Larry Bird's stats could probably have been much better than what they were if he had played only thinking about stats, but the only thing that mattered to Larry Bird ever was to win and to win in any way possible. Larry Bird has the rare talent that he could make his team win without having netted many shots himself in a game.
Michael Jordan learned how to get into player's heads from Larry Bird. Actually, Michael Jordan forbade his team players to engage with Larry Bird because he knew Larry Bird would mess with their minds. Michael knew that nobody could engage Larry and win a trash talking competition.
Michael and Larry harbor deep respect for each other. They may not be best friends but they both deeply respect each other.

yea jordan was different. he was a stat machine. too bad he was a loser early on.. lol and in the 90s he was winning games by passing the ball to players like John Paxson for game winning 3s.. He played with Paxson in the 80s and was NOT hitting him with thos game winning passes.. Mike was going 1 on 4.. While BIRD was GETTING GAME WINNING ASSISTS AND PICKS/SCREENS..
James Harden scores alot. gets rebounds.. gets assists.. but he is a LOSER. at least mike LEARNED to win after 6 or so years.. or the 90s just got weaker than the 80s.. lol

You are missing the point… Larry could take control of the game and score tons of points from the perimeter anytime he wanted. The night he scored 60 against the falcons he called it before game time that he was going to break the record that night. All he cared about was the team win at the end of the night vs padding his stats and losing the game.

Yes, it was Bird and his team. But why was his team so good? Why did they play like that? Because they had Bird. Take him out of the picture, the whole gameplay changes. No one on that team would have been as good. It was Bird that made those Celtics.
