  • An intricate quilt of guitars, harmoniums, bells, woodwinds and Tibetan singing bowls that expanded on their debut, Helplessness Blues is capped with signature vocal arrangements that you might call angelic - if they didn’t sound so piercingly, poignantly human.

4:54 To "wash your hands of" something is to actively make yourself stop doing something. So he's asking if he could make himself change his ways, to look out for someone else, rather than just himself. Also btw a quilt is a type of blanket, made with tons of different brightly colored scraps of fabric sewn together!

i am a huge fan of the fleet foxes myself, especially this album. it leaves room for you to think and just feel the music and be taken away with it. personally, i feel very present and grounded when i listen to this album but also feel very free. Loved your reaction!

He talks about a vampire in The Plains/Bitter Dancer. You were right about the villain.

The wailing instrument at the end of The Shrine/An Argument is a bass clarinet :)

Isn't Helplessness Blues just so ??? good ???? Ugh it gets me every time. Even just now I had a tear or two run down my face lol. Literally one of my favorite tracks ever, too. The lyrics are so poignant and relatable and True. And the music is so beautiful while being perfectly suited to the lyrics just UGH amazing.
I recently found a gorgeous cover of this song by The Duke's Men of Yale. The album version they released is decent, but the simple live performance they have on their youtube channel "Doox of Yale" is stunning.

If you mean the title track, yeah it‘s just perfect, still my favourite fleet foxes track so far!
Also never heard of the dukes men of yale 😅

@@luggareviews Oops yeah I meant the title track 😅😅😅
I’d also never heard of the Dukes Men of Yale- I guess they’re an a cappella group from Yale University? I just happened to somehow find their performance of Helplessness Blues one day. I like it almost as much as the original, so it’s nice to have an option to switch up which one I have on repeat after all these years 😆

If you've heard of Father John Misty, he is the drummer on this album. Also, Someone You'd Admire is my favorite song on this album. Everyone's different!

I'm really enjoying your reactions, the album/artist choices have been fantastic, leading me back into albums I've already loved but put away for a long time, so keep it going/coming.
I'm sure someone has thrown in Grizzly Bear as a strong recommendation, based on where your tastes are (and you did a Daniel Rossen album), but their 'Shields', 'Veckatimest' and 'Yellow House' albums are must-listens! (Those 3 were all wide-eyed first listen experiences, so much talent.)

Thank you very much :) I am glad to be able to listen to these albums with the people that watch these videos and comments it's so much more rewarding and a deeper dive into these artists music.
I will definetly do a Grizzly Bear album (or more) because some people really want to see these and if it suits these artists I am doing right now... why not!
but now the question: where should I start, or what should I listen to first? :D

@@luggareviews I would say: flip a coin for Shields or Veckatimest first...you can't go wrong, in my opinion, hard to say which is the "best". Taking off on an artier, more "psychedelic" folk/rock trip from fleet foxes, with 2 songwriters, and really dense with flourishes that you notice differently each listen (esp. w headphones vs good speakers, and both methods are encouraged). 🖖

@@luggareviews it's fine... U can ask me for changing or altering small things like BG colours and stuffs for templates... I kinda made it look extravagant but if u want a simpler one, I can make a minimalist template too sometime... Can use later on

Please react to Joanna Newsom - Ys! Robin Pecknold's a friend of hers, and did some opening acts on tour with her before Fleet Foxes reconvened

May I recommend that you react to Lonesome Dreams by Lord Huron for similar vibes to Fleet Foxes? Or Merriweather Post Pavilion by Animal Collective for mind melting psychedelic pop vibes?

I feel like the less "pretty" vocals by Robin on Lorelai were intentional- bc the narrator of the song is just feeling like tired old trash, and doesn't even have the energy to pretend to "sweet talk" the person he's singing to. If that makes sense?
So it's totally valid to feel like the vocals are less pleasing to the ear haha
