For people wanting more damage at the cost of some survivability I recommend upgrading to tsar claymore when they reach late game and have moment of truth from the gladiator arena in New Sirocco. The Drawback effect of Moment of Truth does not hurt you as much in this build compared to other builds which I will explain in the later section after quickly mentioning the DPS: -Moon swipes hit 2x with 1.8x damage=3.6x @ 30s cooldown = 3.6x @ 30s -Moment of truth=3.5x @ 15s cooldown = 7.0x @ 30s (+ ignores 50% of the enemies' armor). This means it has significantly higher DPS. Unfortunately, it also gives you the effect "Drawback", decreasing your own damage resistances (not impact resistance!) by 50%. This build gives decent cooldown reduction, damage resistances, and impact resistance(2/3 pieces have good impact resistance+passive which gives impact resistance). In general you have 4 ways of mitigating damage in this game: damage resistance, impact resistance(blocking), parry skills, and dodging. Using the claymore with drawback reduces your damage resistance, however it also enables you to do the parry skill, and more importantly it leverages your build and counteracts the effect the effect of "Drawback" by mitigating damage through blocking(which is independent of the effects of drawback). You lose one tenant of the defensive measure which is damage resistance, but you don't lose as much as other builds since you can leverage your impact resistance. Mages/magical attacks will be more of a problem in this case, but for the mere fact that you one-shot most of them it isn't as much of a problem as it seems, just be cognizant of your frailty. And as opposed to the halberd you get the parry skill available which also inflicts confusion allowing you to manipulate their stability with sweep kick.
If you choose heroic kingdom and shadow assassin boots (best boots for impact resistance while also giving cooldown reduction (luckily you also get free physical damage and impact)) you gain even more advantage against melee enemies and DPS in general while losing out on some magic resistance. I did a test with only the discipline boon active (no sleeping buff or anything else just equipment and passives from quests and skill trainers except Shamanic Resonance as I did not have that at the time nor did I use Brawn). Hits needed to kill enemies with just moment of truth (11.6 second cooldown): 1-Hit: Arcane Elemental, Calygrey, Boozu, Rock Mantis 2-hit: Elder Medyse, Boreo, Obsidian Elemental, Pure Illuminator, Sublime Shell 3-hit: Gargoyles, Drifting Medyse, Gastrocin 4-hit: Ancient Dweller, Scarlet Emissary Even if you play slow and defensive (only using moment of truth while it is available, and using no auto attacks the fights go by pretty quick.
Thanks for the tip about mana ward negating damage from creating dark stones. Tsar weapon skill builds are my favorite in Outward so far. I have a no magic build that uses Preadator Leap, perfect strike, Moon swipe, and Splitter which is an excellent finisher when enemies are below half health.
The insane damage and infinite durability make tsar so worth the slow attack speed. And don't even get me started on the impact. Absolutely nuts. I love the gauntlets, halberd, and spear so far. Need to try the mace but I hate the sword and axe. One handed versions are awful although he two handed are godly.
Its one of those small perks you will neve know unless you try it. Thankfully I test all kinds of stuff in this game and can assure you it makes cleanse much less painful.
I suggest to replace the Noble shoes with the Tenebrous shoes infused with the "Speed and Efficiency" enchantment, for even more cooldown reduction and a little bit of ethereal damage bonus, if you want to use the Dreamer Halberd.
Could be a great idea. I prefer the noble boots mostly for defense and fashion, but tenebrous is hard to part with as its one of the best boots for sure.
Just want to say Wind Infuse is actually not that great skill for most builds. The only time its beneficial over having any other imbue, is when you want to apply Rainbow Hex for Rupture. I find its better to have lower impact and keep staggering rather than knock opponents down. Iron weapons enchanted with Unsuspected Strength are ideal for this. Good damage, low impact, doesnt lose durability from imbues and weapon skills, easy to get early. Best weapons in the game imo.
But if you get a tsar axe with wind infuse. Granted it takes the raw dmg enchant if you want to ignore amour. Maybe even the hex skill tree you can dish out high dmg with good recovery
I think that for Caldera this is very true. It is usually better to just use a spirit varnish for thins like gargoyles, scarlet emissaries, and ghosts. However, most other enemies take decent physical damage and with the insane knockback of wind infuse it can keep you safe from any attacks at all. I will admit the fights take longer though because you aren't using said element that is ideal. I tend to use it until I reach a more difficult enemy and then use an elemental imbue instead.
Good build Sheen! Found an even better insane one courtesy of reddit: Monk/Speedster/Primal. Manawall Armor, Tsar/Dreamer Halberd. Academy faction. Perfect Strike for days and gross killing power. I was looking for a Primal build and although people pushed me to Hex (I do love it) this build is insane.
Perfect strike is just stupid. Get enough cooldown and you can instantly kill everything with it lol. Need to create my own version of this now I guess lol.
Oh boy this build hits like a truck! Amazing, sheen! And btw, that Moon swipe at 10:33 was so freaking satisfying hahahah another great video, thanks sheen 👊
Thanks! I had a lot of fun with this build and still think moon swipe is one of my favorite skills of all time. Feels fantastic to wack enemies with max damage twice in a row.
i am very late to the outward party, i have a question: how crazy would it sound if i take hex mage on virtually all builds? i hope im not the only one, im in love with this skill tree, i have it on my mage on my 6 pistol blood bullet thief, on my paladin the quality of life is just insane, i just cant pass it
Thank you. I think you have a few options here. 1) Hex Mage, Cabal Hermit, Philosopher = tons of elemental damage with good mana regen and decent focus on fire. 2) Warrior Monk, Cabal Hermit, Hex Mage = very focused on elemental damage as a melee character. Hex for no burnt stats. 3) Cabal Hermit, Hex Mage, Mercenary, = good mage capabilities with mercenary to support your stamina 4) Cooldown builds are stupid strong = white arcane hood, white arcane robe, tenebrous boots, speedster skill tree. Go with an ivory staff enchanted and soroboreans faction for near instant cooldown of skills. I think there are many OP options, but anything with Cabal Hermit, Hex Mage, or primal ritualist for tank builds is going to be very strong.
Lets see I usually enchant my gear before hand since they stay enchanted through the legacy process and then I don't need to worry about it. Master kazite Cat Mask Wolf Plate Armor Tsar Halberd Noble Boots (no legacy needed but it was my full set so why not)
Fun looking build. For faction, personaly I would pick the Kingdom of Levant instead Sorobor. Much more damage, if you build the right building for the passive in Siroco, also gives a large damage and hp buff. For mana, the scholar circlet is part of most of my builds. Mana, coldown reduction, with the rain or arcane unison enchantment gets you mana regen. This solves all mana problems paired with mana regen food.
Yeah I agree that the Heroic Kingdom is generally a better faction choice. In this case HK should be better in terms of DPS. But in general it all depends one how much of your damage comes from skills, the length of the skill animation, and how much cooldown reduction you have. Unlike damage bonus, 100% cooldown reduction gives an equivalent damage bonus of "infinity" (if animation length is neglected). It is a non-linear relationship. My comment below shows the derivation for the equivalent damage bonus comming from cooldown reduction. Let x_True be the total damage bonus, x be the regular damage bonus, and y be the cooldown reduction. The total damage bonus is then, x_True = x + (y*(1+x))/(1-y) For Sheen's case with discipline (x=0.15), Master Kazite Cat Mask enchanted with assassin(x=0.05,y=0.08), Wolf Plate Armor enchanted with Adrenaline(y=0.10), and Brigand's Backpack(x=0.15): With HK(x=0.30): {x=0.65, y=0.18}: x_True = 0.65 + 0.36 = 1.01 With Sorobor (y=0.10): {x=0.35,y=0.28}: x_True = 0.36 + 0.53 = 0.89 This is for the case that Sheen only uses skills for damaging the enemies, and for enemies that have no protection or barrier. And protection and barrier on enemies does not matter that much usually (except for a few cases). Sheen probably uses normal attacks a bit so expect the setup with the soroborean passive to give an equivalent value between 0.36 and 0.89 for damage bonus.
I just derived a formula for converting cooldown reduction to damage bonus which is added additively. Let x = damage bonus and y = cooldown reduction. The damage bonus from cooldown reduction is then given by, x_Cooldown = (y*(1+x))/(1-y) Your true damage bonus is then given by, x_True = x_Regular + x_Cooldown = x + (y*(1+x))/(1-y) Derivation: Let the output dps be z assuming no protection or barrier(which messes with equating a single big hit with multiple small hits). The output dps is, z = z' * (1+x) * (1/(1-y)) where z' is the base dps before we account for damage bonuses and cooldown reduction. We want to match it to the following expression: z = z' * (1 + x + f(x,y)) Thus, 1+x+f(x,y) = (1+x) * (1/(1-y)) Which gives, f(x,y)=(y*(1+x))/(1-y) x_True = x + f(x,y) = x + (y*(1+x))/(1-y)
If you want to optimize damage absolutely Heroic is the better choice. I tried to maximize moon swipe cooldown instead but losing 10% would not be the worst thing in the world.
Yes you could definitely do that. This build was how I enjoyed it but the main things are, wind infuse, moon swipe, and extra stamina from warrior monk. There is a little leeway from there.
Having a very hard time deciding between cabal hermit and speedster as 3rd for my wild hunter + warrior monk build, using Tsar halberd. I'm thinking I don't really need attack speed at all if my cooldowns are low enough to just spam abilities...but I would miss the stronger boons :( Going speedster, might as well just go all in on damage, and grab the heroic kingdom armor that boosts physical damage by a ton. Different build, but I would imagine dreamer halberd would also work exceedingly well with monk + hunter + ritualist, if I can stomach the durability drain.
I think Speedster might be right up your ally here. I don't often take it, but I wills say it feels very balanced for halberd builds. Probably one of its best weapon for it because the reach keeps you safer and moonswipe is excellent to spam.
Is my very first playtrough, so googled it and the Head piece is only via the legeacy chest obtainable. Is there a alternativ for the Kazite Masks? If not than I thought will use the Base one.
If you place the mask in the cierzo legacy chest and make a new character with your main selected as the legacy character you can run towards the chest, start splitscreen with your main and open up the door giving you the mask
You can indeed because starchild claymore is strong enough you can always use it and be fine. However I would not recommend it. I cringe everytime I see someone put more than 1 point into mana. It's so useless. You can gain so much from gear, food, potions, and passives available in the game. I've never needed more than 1 point spent for any build. Mana pots are super easy to make. You should be able to get upwards to 60-100 mana with just 1 point. If you're using more than that during boss fights, then you're missing gear, or you just need some mana pots in your pockets.
I always take 3 points matter what. This is enough that you don't run out after one or two uses, and lets you still cast spells if you forget to take a food item or potion. 1 point is definitely enough. Especially if you are running melee with mana for buffs. Its too easy to get that back. But when I am exploring around in the game is feels more convenient to have extra just in case. Also when using certain armor sets your mana can't get quite as high. So it all depends on how you really want to set your character up.
@SheenShots I used to do that too. You're really only helping your early game that way. I mean the most I use now is 2 points and I have 100 mana on that character. It's only needed because he's a full damage build no cost reduction. It's OK to use pots during fights. That's why you also have pockets
Tsar for this build but if you really wanted to use the dreamer you could make it work well. Tsar is going to have a lot more impact which is pretty nice.

Derivation:
Let the output dps be z assuming no protection or barrier(which messes with equating a single big hit with multiple small hits). The output dps is,
z = z' * (1+x) * (1/(1-y))
where z' is the base dps before we account for damage bonuses and cooldown reduction. We want to match it to the following expression:
z = z' * (1 + x + f(x,y))
Thus,
1+x+f(x,y) = (1+x) * (1/(1-y))

f(x,y)=(y*(1+x))/(1-y)
x_True = x + f(x,y) = x + (y*(1+x))/(1-y)
