Just got out of my prerelease, we had a 16 person event, and everyone walked away very happy. The sealed played pretty easy (it ended up being take all the cards of the specific colors you wanted to run and put them together for most people, but that's normal) and even though half the players came in not knowing the rules, things smoothed over quickly, as there's no weird interactions or responses to juggle like in modern magic. With the absolute abudance of accessories that were released at the same time, I think you're right fantasy flight won't drop this easy, which is a great sign, i'm looking forward to see where this toes
Driving home from a pre release tournament. I did not spoil the cards so every turn was a surprise. Had an absolute blast and best of all I just might have made some new friends.
As someone who has played the game at demo days and on TTS, the game is very fun. It forces hard decisions and strategy, and gives players a chance to inturrupt that strategy. Deck building has a ton of options with each commander having 2 strategies they can build into and be competitive. The only thing giving me pause, as a Star Wars Armada victim, is that I've heard the words " we have a 4 year plan approved by Disney" before the game was effectively shut down after the next release. FFG making those kind of promises mean nothing to me
Armada!!! LOL As soon as I saw it was just the XWing business model but with Large ships on the bases, I was out. The ships should have been way smaller and it should have been a fleet engagement game, not a dogfight with Star Destroyers instead of C wings.
@@madquest8 Well, I can tell you never played armada. It is very much not a dogfight. Armada is more objective and planning based. Its surprisingly rare that a game of armada devolves into a straight up dogfight unless you are specifically designing your fleets to do that
My love of the original Star Wars TCG from my youth makes me want to play. I also like the idea of being able to start on the ground floor. The difficulty is finding a place and the time to play.
Only time will tell what FFG does with the game. But all I can share is my own experience. I brought five people to a pre-release event this past weekend, three of whom played the old Decipher Star Wars CCG very casually and haven't touched a CCG since and two who had never played a CCG. Everyone picked up the rules very quickly, and immediately got hooked on the sealed event mechanic and deck building strategy. Enough so that all five of us stayed for a second event and two of us went to a further away event the next day. All five people have since been tinkering with standard decks that they can build and all five have pre-ordered booster boxes for the first set, theorycrafting around different leaders and aspect. Building a deck feels very... unlimited (sorry, I had to), and even with a limited cardpool from prerelease we have enjoyed trying different things. I think the game is really fun and while the gameplay is not as complex as the old Decipher game, it is a much easier game to collect for and to strategize for. It's much more accessible and (nostalgia aside) fixes some of the problems that I had with the Decipher CCG that I won't go into (even though I loved it).
I've never heard about this or your channel but you're content has clear effort and research put into it that left me wanting to learn more. I'm impressed with your style and looking forward to seeing more.

It was rivaling Magic/YGO/Pokemon (they were, for a time, 4th behind the big 3), and had a solid Pro Circuit. I see a lot of similarities in this game, and has a strong IP, so hopefully it can stick around, though it is MUCH easier to play Lorcana and get people to play as you can learn/teach in literally 5 minutes
I'm with you. Love the Decipher game (warts and all) and was initially unimpressed with the announcement of Unlimited. But over the past few weeks, something about it started to catch my attention. I'm sure it was a combination of factors, including the overall card and game design, the different available play formats, the quick pace of an average game (leading to the developer's recommendation that the ideal way to play is a "best of 3" scenario) and even the various art and collectability angles that I think will drive "the chase" for some players. All of these seem to show that FFG is zeroing in on what makes for an appealing TCG that has potential to hold community interest. Obviously, it's too early to tell what, if any, long term success it will achieve but I see potential and I hope that it does manage to be both fun and sustainable enough to grow a sizeable fanbase.
My friends and I are active Star Wars CCG players using the original cards as well as the "new" virtual cards from the Players Commitee that is keeping this game alive. And we are all hyped and into Unlimited now. The space and ground battles definitely feel like CCG. It's great and I really hope it will last longer than the other FFG games like "5 Rings", "Game of Thrones" or all the others.
All that we wanted is SW LCG game that would be like AH LCG but different flavor. With this wide universe it would be a bomb. But they make another deathborn CCG that will last for a few years.
Had our prerelease yesterday and I really liked the mechanics. The art could be better but the fun in the gameplay is certainly there for me. The 2 cards a turn felt really good
Star Wars CCG is still my favorite game of all time. It always felt cinematic, which made it feel special. I still have all my cards, have two complete sets of Premiere all the way through Endor! I'm hoping this game can give me some of that magic back! The "Battle Destiny" system was unpredictable and Unlimited not having that type of random variable makes the gameplay pretty linear for experienced players. Still hopeful though! :)
I played a sealed deck local tourney and I've been crafting a constructed deck with all the booster packs I won from the tourney including my pre-release pack. I also have the official game box coming which I believe comes with 24 booster packs which i will be splitting with my dad so that I can create some OP constructed decks.
I have been playing OP and Lorcana with my kids. Which is fun. This has a similar feel to both of those. The art at first wasn't as impressive as I had hoped. But the Hyper and foils are great! And the promo Judge Vader card I got is the same as an enchanted! I had a blast playing it at a pre release last week. Definitely hope it takes off. I will definitely support the game and see where it goes. Might have to single's build this though, TCGs aren't cheap 😂
I've played it and my main current concern is how much it felt like aggro decks were dominating this current version... I could only put my luke and home one once in a game before dying in every others. But that was in the pre release event and my pulls were a bit top heavy.
I wonder how shops will slot in another game. I know when I started playing Lorcana it was hard to find a shop that had their weekly event on the weekend when I was off.
Lorcana player here and yeah it's tough finding lgs that run games on weekends. So.e of us actually have jobs during the week and can't play on weekdays. Lol
I'm a hardcore MTG player but recently I've been contemplating Flesh and Blood, Lorcana and Star Wars Unlimited. 🤔😵💫 Times like this I wish I could predict the future. 😂😢
FaB is a good game but I’m not convinced by the mechanical structure. There are several mechanics locked behind legendary rarity, especially in regards to equipment. I also don’t like their use of the Living Legend system. That’s just me though. Lorcana will have some staying power since it’s kid-friendly. For SWU, no matter how fun it is, FFG has proven time and again they’re trash at managing competitive games.
Disney Lorcana did not catch my interest on playing it but this Star Wars TCG do it. I like when it is complicated and takes time to Master it. I will never be a proffesional but Playing cards like Sabine Wren draws me more and more playing this one. Also fun they added space combats. I have a feeling this cardgame will be at my side for long with Magic.
I don’t trust FFG to keep it going. They have a poor track record when it comes to this. Maybe I’ll be wrong. But I’m not putting my money on the line to find out.
I'll give it a chance at some point since I am definitely expecting a good game from FFG. But the streams seem a bit too corporate for my taste and neither the IP nor the art direction do pull it ahead compared with the new and old games I like. And those also instill more confidence in how they face the community and just play amazingly well. I don't necessarily need another harshly permanent based game that just dumbs down draw and mana enough to work fluently. The zones are neat tho and I'm excited to look into that, but this mechanic is also one Altered explores and they have an overall more fresh game system that plays incredibly well, so they got first dips on being the most exciting game in 24 for now.
FFG has done wonderful things of the years with consumer friendly LCGs. I was horribly disappointed in FFG when they went the collectible route with Destiny and now with Unlimited. I'm sure many will throw their money at FFG for this random content, but I won't be one of them.

I was debating switching over from One Piece, as that game had been losing my interest for a while now. So, I sat down and played the game on TTS and HOLY CRAP! The gameplay is nothing short of amazing! I also like how the cards are not crazy expensive (in their base rarity), the Alt Art system really is working well. So I have ordered a box and the starter and signed up for late pre-releases, adios One Piece.
They have to give different iterations of the leaders too down the line like Enraged Vader, Clone Vader, Force Ghost Vader, Anakin so on and so forth because as of right now you can’t top Darth Vader as is if it’s going to stay the same the game will stale. Other characters would be nice too, forgotten ones like Starkiller.

MTG is on a steep decline, and it wont stop going downhill anytime soon . Its a good time to realease a new Card Game, since more and more former MTG players are fed up with Wizards for good, and are actively looking for alternatives .
the biggest issues facing this game are price and availability. The game could be good, I will play a pre-release, however I do not trust FF and will more than likely watch from the sidelines.

So much of the art is so bad. It could be(the next big tcg), but I'm guessing it won't be given FFG's track record of not being able to balance anything well or run tourneys or QC products. It is fun so enjoy it while it lasts! The deck builder in me wishes this was an LCG, I loved that model. Jyhad and Netrunner are my two great loves and I fell hard for Destiny. This doesn't have the fun while playing Destiny brought with dice, I see why the magic crowd will enjoy it.
Love the art, love the idea of star wars tcg. BUT this is magic the gathering with SW art. comon. it has X/X, types, flying and ground units, tapping, resource system. this is lazy design to be honest.
Give me any reason even to think about investing in a game that is owned by someone who does not care about the game or me the player? The owners care only about profits do not be ignorant.
Will be canceled after 3 expansions. At first its not as much FFG as it is Asmodee - a ravenous capitalist group. After the hype will pass away so will their effort to support the game.
My comment to you is that not everything needs to last forever. I say if nothing else Star Wars Unlimited will be a great experience over the next four years and if it does die after that your cards are still good to play with friends.
Ffg js a different company now. They are ran by tcg players and what they’ve done with SWU is way different than anything else they’ve done. They have 9 designers working on SWU.

If you go back to the first set of Pokémon, their cards range from 90s CG nightmare to claymation? To iconic hand drawn art. Compare diglett and magnemite to mewtwo and charizard and tell me that set is cohesive
the style won't affect the game play, however having the style line up with the many IP's within star wars would make this more popular. The Rebels cards, the ghost crew, could be all in one style as example.
This game is horrible compared to the decipher game . Even the cards look amazing in comparison to this game . Btw a committee has been still making sets for that game, for decades now
Yeah... no... it's a flash in the pan. The gameplay is severely lacking, there is nowhere near enough variety in gameplay, it's hasn't the options and different approaches that MTG has. It's simplistic, has poor art, very few cards that are 'must have' collectible. Very disappointing.
I'm trying to figure out what this game has going for it. The art is the worst I've ever seen in the industry. Honestly, I can't think of a worse looking game from the art, card design, to the random faction symbols, and all for an IP that is arguably the biggest and best looking in the world. These are recognizable (or should be) characters. Confusing text placement; some cards have it on top of the card, others on the bottom, and worse yet, some with completely blank text boxes. Blank text boxes are only ever found on run-of-the-mill deck builders, never from a self-perceived MTG, Pokemon or Lorcana competitor. Furthermore, there isn't a single piece of flavor text, not a single movie quote from some of the biggest movies of all time, anywhere to be found on these half-baked cards. From a play stand point, this better be the best game ever made, because otherwise, this will quickly be swept to the side. Oh yeah, and FFG doesn't know how to run organized play or ever print enough product. GG.
I've been hugely disappointed with this game. It doesn't feel like Star Wars is at all important to what kind of game it is and it's too frantic, with winning being down to who gets the biggest things on the field the fastest rather than on any strategy you might want to employ.
Not sure about the names of the cards and stuff. But I used to play mtg, and could get a fast sense of the game just by looking at a few cards online. Blue seems to work like it does in mtg. I noticed a blue card for 2 cost that lets you look at your opponents hand and choose a card they have to discard. Just play a disruption based deck where your making your opponents discard there big cards. Also those discard cards where common or uncommon. Blue has tons of cards like this so I'm pretty sure you could build a deck for 10-20 dollars that lets you completely shut down 300 dollar decks. That's the ultimate, true Jedi stuff :).
Netrunner license was pulled by wizards, not canceled by ffg.

I actually like when art styles are different in a card game. PvP card games are a great outlet to show off different artists.

SWCCG LOVE!!!!! I have loved the little nods to Deciphers masterpiece, all the way down to the little jokes in the subtext of some cards.

Just got a box of the cards and got a showcase Director Krennic in it, so pretty happy with the pulls. The cards look really nice IMO.

i played the prerelease event at my local hobby shop and a draft event so far, the game has exceeded my expectations

No thanks MTG for life & with the price of ccg … it’s hard to venture outside of MTG
So much of the art is so bad. It could be(the next big tcg), but I'm guessing it won't be given FFG's track record of not being able to balance anything well or run tourneys or QC products. It is fun so enjoy it while it lasts! The deck builder in me wishes this was an LCG, I loved that model. Jyhad and Netrunner are my two great loves and I fell hard for Destiny. This doesn't have the fun while playing Destiny brought with dice, I see why the magic crowd will enjoy it.

This card game looks really fun, but some of the art dies looks awful (Han and chewy). I did like star wars Destiny artstyle.
Love the art, love the idea of star wars tcg. BUT this is magic the gathering with SW art. comon. it has X/X, types, flying and ground units, tapping, resource system. this is lazy design to be honest.
Give me any reason even to think about investing in a game that is owned by someone who does not care about the game or me the player? The owners care only about profits do not be ignorant.
Nope. Will be dead within 3 years, and people will languish that they paid a premium for a TCG when they could have had a perfectly fine LCG.
Will be canceled after 3 expansions. At first its not as much FFG as it is Asmodee - a ravenous capitalist group. After the hype will pass away so will their effort to support the game.
Fantasy Flight games always die, there history with tcgs cannot be ignored. I will never give them my money again.

My comment to you is that not everything needs to last forever. I say if nothing else Star Wars Unlimited will be a great experience over the next four years and if it does die after that your cards are still good to play with friends.
Ffg js a different company now. They are ran by tcg players and what they’ve done with SWU is way different than anything else they’ve done. They have 9 designers working on SWU.
Keep telling yourself that. And the rest of us will keep playing Unlimited.

I don't think cohesive style has anything to do with a card games quality. If you go back to the first set of Pokémon, their cards range from 90s CG nightmare to claymation? To iconic hand drawn art. Compare diglett and magnemite to mewtwo and charizard and tell me that set is cohesive
the style won't affect the game play, however having the style line up with the many IP's within star wars would make this more popular. The Rebels cards, the ghost crew, could be all in one style as example.
This game is horrible compared to the decipher game . Even the cards look amazing in comparison to this game .

Yeah... no... it's a flash in the pan. The gameplay is severely lacking, there is nowhere near enough variety in gameplay, it's hasn't the options and different approaches that MTG has. It's simplistic, has poor art, very few cards that are 'must have' collectible. Very disappointing.

I'm trying to figure out what this game has going for it. The art is the worst I've ever seen in the industry. Honestly, I can't think of a worse looking game from the art, card design, to the random faction symbols, and all for an IP that is arguably the biggest and best looking in the world. These are recognizable (or should be) characters. Confusing text placement; some cards have it on top of the card, others on the bottom, and worse yet, some with completely blank text boxes. Blank text boxes are only ever found on run-of-the-mill deck builders, never from a self-perceived MTG, Pokemon or Lorcana competitor. Furthermore, there isn't a single piece of flavor text, not a single movie quote from some of the biggest movies of all time, anywhere to be found on these half-baked cards. From a play stand point, this better be the best game ever made, because otherwise, this will quickly be swept to the side. Oh yeah, and FFG doesn't know how to run organized play or ever print enough product. GG.

I've been hugely disappointed with this game. It doesn't feel like Star Wars is at all important to what kind of game it is and it's too frantic, with winning being down to who gets the biggest things on the field the fastest rather than on any strategy you might want to employ.
Not sure about the names of the cards and stuff. But I used to play mtg, and could get a fast sense of the game just by looking at a few cards online.
Blue seems to work like it does in mtg. I noticed a blue card for 2 cost that lets you look at your opponents hand and choose a card they have to discard. Just play a disruption based deck where your making your opponents discard there big cards. Also those discard cards where common or uncommon. Blue has tons of cards like this so I'm pretty sure you could build a deck for 10-20 dollars that lets you completely shut down 300 dollar decks. That's the ultimate, true Jedi stuff :).
