I'm retired, age 69, and live alone. My children live thousands of miles away. I prepare for myself and my dogs. When the pandemic started, advice was given to check on elderly neighbors. I recall thinking that it was a good idea. Then I realized, I AM the elderly neighbor.

I live in Belgium. Last year people were buying loo rolls. I planted seeds, bred chickens and quail. Learnt how to make bread. Pickle eggs and cabbage and onions. I stocked up on dried foods. Tinned food. And now I may lose my job. But I’m not scared because I know we have enough food to keep us going for a while. Love your videos.

71 and living alone on a restricted income. In the past two years, with the grace of God, and good common sense, I've been diligent and able to fill my coffer with enough food to feed myself and seven family members for four months. And, I'm staying the course. I thank God for you and I send blessings to you every single day. Virtual hugs, Elizabeth

When the shutdowns began, we lived in Germany. The shelves were cleared and we couldn’t leave our village. At one point I was one day from running out of baby formula for my 5mo son. (I have a congenital condition that makes bfing impossible.) A miracle allowed me to get formula in time, but I’m forever changed by that time period. My pantry has 4 months of food in it. We’re saving for a farm. We have a garden. We are learning about animal husbandry. This was our Great Depression-like wake up call. We’re forever changed, and I’m glad. If I have it my way, I will never count on the government or society to see me through again.

100 years ago most people who didn't live in a large city were "crazy" enough to grow their own food, make their own clothing, build their own houses - AND BARNS - because they were farmers who FED those city-dwellers. If they weren't "crazy", those city dwellers would've starved to death. So, who's really "crazy"?

I’m 38. I’m learning to can, dehydrate, cook and bake better, and even crocheting. I’m stocking up on meds, toilet paper, and shelf stable food. I got seeds for a garden, and just taking baby steps to take care of my family and I. I have some errors but it’s just a part of learning. I’m not concerned what other people think of my actions. At the end of the day, they do not pay my bills or feed my family. All I can do is set an example and if they are in need, I’ll help with what I can.

Yes I totally agree. A few years back we was supposed to get snow. So I made my husband and we went and got gas for generator and stocked up on everything we needed just in case we got snowed in. Well the snow never came and my husband kind of made fun at me for stocking up and no snow. Well the next day we had a F4 tornado hit our county and our road we live on bad. But we were blessed with not much damage but what little business we had left in our county standing were either closed or u couldn’t get to them. It was a disaster and people was not prepared. But I was and my husband said to me god I’m grateful that u got us prepared. Even though I got prepared for snow it didn’t matter I was still prepared. And since then my husband and I try and stay prepared as much as possible!

You are a very kind, sweet lady but I am not going to beg anyone nor go out into stores and put myself at risk to go buy supplies for people that can do for themselves. How many people KNOW they should prepare but instead go buy new clothes or spend a fortune going out to dinner and laugh at people like us? I have helped my best friend who is widowed and on a low fixed income to stock her pantry several times during this pandemic and will do for her again and again. I have picked up supplies at Sam's and Costco for my son and his family because he has missed so much work due to oil and pipeline issues. The rest of my family has the financial ability to stock their pantries. I will not turn our house into a food bank for those who made the choice to blow money while we skipped vacations and cut out frivolous spending so we can stockpile our supplies. There are consequences for bad decisions and many people will wish they had prepared.

When speaking to a young mother with two kids, I asked her if she had made any preparations; she laughed, said no, she and her family were coming to our house to ride out a SHTF situation. I asked, "What are you bringing to the table?" She responded, "What do you mean?" I said, "You have a husband and two teenaged boys. What are you bringing for them to eat?" She said, "Oh! I'll go down to your fish pond and catch fish!" I said, "No, that's MY food supply. What are YOU bringing?" She was stunned. Never had thought about that. No preparations. Said her kids prefer Wendy's or McD's. Oh, well.......

This was good advice to hear. I’m that husband who has been “preparing” for probably the past 10 years. My wife has fought me and complained all along. She let up for a short time during 2020, but has slipped into her “you are crazy” routine. I know everybody has someone in their life like that. I know we could be do much further along is she would just work with me. She doesn’t know the Lord yet, so that’s part of it. One day I hope she will see it was all worthwhile. God bless.

The Little Red Hen was the first book I learned to read, as a small child. It's message still rings true today. You can't always get people to do their part on the preparation end, but they will be there to help you eat the "bread". Thankfully my three grown children are open minded, and caring providers for their families, and helpful to others. Thanks for your thoughts.

I ran across a huge clump of plantain weed yesterday riding my bike. I filled up my basket, took it home, washed it and dried it out in the oven. I use it for my spices. I've been stocking up on canned chicken, hams and peanut butter. Got all my oats, rice, pasta and cereal in gallon pickle jars. Gonna grow a garden this year. I'm not near stocked up like I want, but I'm a Christ follower. I'm not afraid.

It has helped me/my family through job loss, power outages, storms, etc. I have a select few I prepare for, but no one else. I know folks think I'm crazy, but I know I'm doing what's right for me and those I prepare for.

I know exactly what you are saying my friend, I have some of those in my own family. I've been around for awhile and grew up on a homestead/farm and we were poor in comparison to the way we live now. My mom bought flour in 25 lbs bags and made our dresses from the beautiful cloth bags the flour came in. We didn't buy cooking oils, we cooked out the lard from our hogs we harvested and dressed out ourselves. We always had a big garden and drew water from a well with a bucket, rope and tickle. I'm one of those people who see the need to have extra, just in case.
I'm a born again Christian and I know God is in control of everything. God is gracious enough to give us what we call common sense ,but many people just don't use it. I won't drop off at their house, but when the need arises I will have it to share with them, if God be willing I am still here. I do pray for them, prayer is the best way I know to see change in a person. God is so good, he has given so much for His creation, He gave His only begotten Son.

I grew up on a ranch 45 miles to the nearest Wyoming small town. I'm not so far out of town now, but still far enough to have some chickens and a garden.I still do some canning, and buy good deals in bulk. I also try to put an elk, deer, and antelope, and a home raised hog, a couple dozen meat birds and old soup birds, and some wild fish, pheasants, ducks, geese, and turkeys in the deep freeze and I've been like this for nearly sixty years, but I had never even heard of a prepper until within the last ten years. I was a prepper and didn't even know it long before they invented that word "Prepper". Lots of times there is no emergency, you just don't feel like going to town to get a few things all the time. I can't even imagine what my groceries would come to if I had to buy everything - Yikes, I feel like I've been mugged when they ring me up now! We used to just call it common sense back in the day. They're going to have to come up with some new words for that still since it's not really that common anymore.

Since November of 2019 my husband and I had a TON OF URGENCY from the Holy Spirit to get prepared for something big. The day that Oregon got shut down for the first time, we had finished a two orange flat cart shopping trip to Costco for our family. It was also the same day my brother and sister in love moved back onto the family property. Since that time we have taught ourselves how to can, how to raise chicks into laying hens, how to build chick shaws and cow pastures, how to raise meat chickens, butcher them and get them in the freezer. We have started raising highland cattle and a bred dexter heifer for milk and meat, we have grown giant gardens and built raised beds and a green house and how to grind wheat berries to make our bread. We are finishing up a post and rail perimeter fence and getting ready to build stalls on our carport that we converted into a barn and after that we are getting our pigs. We are learning tons about permiculture in the event we can't get more feed.....well for animals and people alike. The biggest thing the Lord has pressed on our hearts is to tighten our family unit and strengthen our walk with Him. We are seeking Wisdom from Him and diving deep into scripture memorization. There could be a time before He takes us home that we don't have are Bibles guys! We also feel such a huge burden to minister to our family members and friends who are lost and encouraged fellow believers in the Body. I am so thankful for you Patara! I have learned a ton from you since finding your channel. I can't wait to hang out with you in Heaven :)

I was never a prepper or homesteader until 3 years ago. God told me then to get ready and this has been my mission ever since. I’m always thinking what’s next thing I should do, what skill I should learn or what I should stock up on. It’s hard when grown adults have young children and they’re doing nothing to prepare. They’re in 2021 but still living like it’s 2019. I’d like to say they just don’t want to face reality but I think a huge part is laziness and not wanting to deal with dirty, unpleasant things. Gardens require work and raising animals for food requires facing death. They’d rather have someone else do it for them.

We needed the nutrients and were not able to stand up to cook or even open cans. Now that we are better guess what we are stocking our freezer with - homemade fruit bars and juices.

I live in an apartment in the Kansas City metro area. I have always bought extra when I had the funds to do so, and cannot begin to count the times it has come in handy. A neighbor helped me carry in groceries one day, and made the remark "good grief that's,alot for one person. How much do you need!" I told her , Well, I have been wonderfully blessed, and it allows me to pass that blessing along. She turned red, and left . I was raised in a Christian home by parents who went thru the depression, and was taught to share. My mom and I used to can produce from a huge garden, and the last year we did, we put up over 400 quarts of fruit, vegetables, meats, and pie fillings. I have to admit, I really miss that. Thank you for a wonderful message. God Bless you and your family

I think the issue with these people being in such denial of what could possibly happen is a defence mechanism. I think they think they will be better off being a victim rather than someone who is proactive because it’s less ‘work’ on their part.
You are correct we need to calmly talk to them and if they do not listen, bless them.

You are a very, very wise woman, Ma'am. So much great advice here! One of the most difficult things to have to do these days is to watch a loved one refuse to wake up to what's going on around them. But there's only so much you can do. There's only so much you can say. Let go and let God. Amen. Just a little side note . . . it was the Lord that shut the door on the ark, not Noah, so I think that takes a huge burden off our shoulders, too. God bless you, Ma'am!

living in the country I have been a "low level" prepper for years (just enough for a few weeks) due to natural disasters. When I saw the "virus" breaking in China back in January, I started to up my game to so speak. People thought, and probably still think I'm a bit nuts...but hell, if I'm wrong, I have lots of groceries I can always eat. I learned to pressure can, and put up a lot of meat and soups last summer. This year I plan to do more and do veggies as well. I have garden space, chickens and added sheep to my small farm....I just need to part with a few of my horses, this is a painful blow..but I'm going to have to make some hard decisions..

Many people don't have the money to eat for a week much less stock their pantry. I understand what you are saying but so many are struggling to keep their homes, have no jobs and want to feed their kids. Help where you can..don't judge. People are doing the best they can. Give all you can without an agenda. That, to me is doing your best. Prepare and give in love.

I agree. I am so thankful that people have tought and shared their knowledge. We then can take that and share our with others. Pluse having the encouragement. We all have these issue playing out in our lives and family. It is nice to hear words of wisdom and to know we are not alone in these matters. It all helps and I am forever grateful. God is in control and He is here with us, He is my hope, but we are still living it and it is as real as can be. God bless

I have been preparing since I was around 23 and I am almost 65. I look back at all the food storage and the big garden I used to have and I can see my Grandmother in what I do. I still today save all my buttons, zippers and clothing that can be made into usable item, she taught me that and told me that never take things for granted. She had to go through the depression with 6 children to feed. You see she is still with me everyday I prepare for the hammer to drop. I love the heart to heart videos because I can tell you had a really wonderful teaching Grandmother also. God Bless you and your family.

I’m preparing for 8 people, including a newborn. Additionally, I have a widowed mother and my father in law is a widower. I can’t prepared for additional people. I don’t have the room or finances to do so. My sister in law jokes that she’s coming to my house. I flat out tell her that she’s not and that she has plenty of time and resources to prepare, so she better get after it. She sent out a family email and said we could supply eggs and chicken meat if SHTF. How much does she think 8 laying hens produce?!

People you love (that have the knowledge of biblical truth) with the writing on the wall right before them and refuse to recognize it. 💔 I’m praying for my family. Just holding on to Jesus like never before. Thank you. GBU. 🙏🏼

Then I worry about my neighbors who I love dearly but simply won't listen. Thank you so much for this video. Sweetpea, you are doing a great job that I believe you were called to do. God bless you and yours.

I asked my daughter 2 yrs ago about having extra food in her home. She said that it would never happen.
2020 came and I ask her about extra food? She said she's feeding all these ppl in her house. I finally gave up. She said her husband hunts.
In the Great Depression, the deer and turkeys were hunted almost to extinction. It took 30 for them to re- populate. Scary. Stock up and pray.

Great advice. This last Thursday evening I taught a Zoom Preparedness class for our Church. Just about how to get started. When asked to teach the class I told the leaders that the ones that came to class were the ones that really didn't need it. That's just what happened. The ones in the class were already committed to Preparedness!!! I try not to stress out about others and can do my part for my immediate family.

Just know that not everyone can truly prep so please be gentle and understanding for those who truly can't.
Our family has medical needs that in a real SHTF situation means we would not be able to survive long. It's scary to acknowledge that.
Having the good enough health both physically and mentally to prep and put away is a true BLESSING. We went from having the garden and the animals (despite existing health issues) to having to give most of it all up due to further health issues in our family. It's truly humbling to experience.

I started my "prepper" adventure about 2 years ago. Some people think I am extreme because I simply stock up on what I use. I am ready for whatever life throws at us. Wish I would have been more prepared in my younger years, would have made some hard times a lot easier. I think God that I found Canning and prepping before Covid even hit. Love your words of wisdom!

I've spent 10 years helping, recommending, talking etc to friends and family about prepping. A few yook it well and some laughed and ridiculed. If they come to me they will get 1 bottle of water and 1 cup of rice, that's it. For years I gave prepper birthday and Christmas presents. Examples a silver coin, book on prepping., starter box from LDS warehouse etc. I tried and did what I could. Great video.

Great video! People don't realize if a person has 365 meals prepped for themselves, and 364 people show up for a meal, then we all get to eat for 1 day! I saw an article on ancient cairns that people built to point out resources like hidden food or good fishing, etc...cairns are the stacked rocks used for communication but now people use them as lawn decor. There was a time when people hid their food like hidden root cellars, etc....if someone comes crashing into your home to steal your food and it's all nicely labeled and stacked in your pantry or basement, then they will take it all easily, but I think have some there but have your bigger resource hidden so as they think they got all you had and hopefully just leave with the decoy food, but you will be ok because the real stash was well hidden in your root cellar away from the house.
