I can't believe it when people say things are getting more expensive, theyre having difficulty making ends meet etc and they continue to go about buying new cars and stacking up debt rather than something to fill their bellies. I've seen parents not being able to afford their groceries and having their kids put bread and milk back on the shelves so they can buy beer and cigarettes. Completely asleep.

I live in Texas and that storm tested me! I'm proud to say that my preps kept me going... I never missed a beat! Heat, water, cooking..I had it all. Thanks to people like you who taught me :) I'm now working my way down my list of preps and food storage that I need to replenish or get for the first time and that's what my stimulus is for. This single mama has to take care of everyone! Thank you for your advice in all these areas.

I was at my Mother -N-Laws house ( she is 70 ) just this morning laying out detail by detail why she and my extended family need to wake up to the current reality in the U.S.A. and just how critical it is that we all put back food , water etc. and concentrate on only the absolute necessity of life and forget everything else , when my Daughter walked in from closing on the sell side of the real estate transaction , first thing said is " Are you ready to go and get a manicure / pedicure " and my Mother-nLaw jumped and said yes , I be ready in a minute ! This is what I am dealing with , God help me !

AMEN!!! I watch people go shopping with their children in the winter. No hats, boots or mittens, coats filthy. Mom and Dad have warm coats and boots. The cart is full of junk food or processed foods. But my main complaint is that 9 out of ten times they slip their coats off in the store and they're covered in tattoos. If you want to have tattoos fine that's your business, but if you can't provide the basics for your children, you need to rethink your priorities.

Several years ago I started watching your videos. I am 76 and my invalid husband is 90. He is a Korean veteran and I am a retired Registered Nurse. We live in the heart of a small town with a population around 4000. I felt in my spirit that we were entering into perilous times, so I got busy buying a little here and a little there. I also purchased dog kennels and turned them into a fence for a chicken pen.....We now have 45 chickens in our back yard and 4 of them are roosters which I place in tubs in the shed at night and they wear no crow collars so as not to disturb the neighbors.....Our houses are about 14 feet apart. We average 15 to 24 eggs a day and we share with our neighbors, friends and family. My brother surprised me by building me a chicken house. I planted 35 tomato plants and 15 peppers, watermelons, squash, lettuce, potatoes, onions and spinach. Our back yard is small and this is all done in containers except the onions. Oh, did I say we also have 8 rabbits and 2 dogs. This life keeps these old arthritic knees going but I sleep very well at night knowing that we can share with our community when the time comes and it looks like it is very very near. Everyone needs to make sure their hearts are right in line with the Lord Jesus. May God bless you and your family...

I grew up in the '50s and '60s and we didn't have much. I was so delighted to get a transistor radio when I turned 13. We had 3 meals a day but didn't eat a lot of junk or snacks. We didn't have expensive vacations...just drove to my mom's home town to visit cousins on the farm. I finally went to the state fair when I was 16. If I wanted anything extra I had to buy it with babysitting money. My grandkids don't really appreciate gifts, because they have too much stuff. People now complain that both parents have to work full time and they still can't make ends meet, but people have so much more and it's "the norm" around here.

But going to Disney was never in the thought process. Getting more yarn because I crochet scarves for the homeless Veterans was also something else I did. GOD's blessings on you and yours.

"Always stay organized..." Best advice for us to impact and instil into each generation.
As a woman in her 60's I have observed a lack of order and the skills necessary to develop little organizers in our home. That's where it starts. It's not just about "the chore;" working hard and being organized is the core of a person's character. There are so many layers to this topic.
Wake up people! We're in a tide that won't recede.

Thanks Patara...I hope people are paying attention because I don't think things are going back to "normal" and I've been seeing this storm coming for a few years. Learning how to identify and use wild plants, aka weeds, to use for food is empowering. Plantain, dandelions and pine needles are healthy foods if you need them. There are hundreds more that can help sustain us. The only one you can truly count on is yourself.
As I've said before... Thanks for helping us stay grounded and for teaching by example how to improvise and truly care for those critters that depend on us. You are truly a blessing 💖

We aren't all homesteading, but there is still plenty to do in a city. Look for community gardens, start a seed library, ask for a tool lending library. Window and patio garden. Plant nasturtiums in small spaces (like along fences). Plant a potato here and there (the original storing of food underground). Sow herb seeds in places that you go to (and bring water along for them when you are out on a walk). Go to city planning meetings and advocate for putting in raised gardens (in housing developments and parks). If you have a small backyard and get along with the neighbors consider taking down the fence (s) and set aside some garden space and shared chairs and tables for relaxing. Offer to help build, till or harvest at someone else's place in return for some fresh food.

Told them I don’t care much about clothes but a tiller, sure would help save this 52 year old back. I’ve dug my garden for three years with a shovel and my hands and have a lot of peas/ corn/ carrots, etc. to show for it. If I can’t use it to provide for the family, don’t bother buying it for me, is what I tell all of them! Unless Mickey Mouse is going to come help hill these potatoes, we don’t need that rodent.😘

I grew up in a place that everyone had a big garden and some animals. We only ate out a handful of times a year. Then the age of fast food restaurants on every corner came to be common. Both parents were going to the work place (instead of living in smaller homes and on less income). Sunday dinner at home was gone because everyone wanted to go out together after church. My whole point is this. We stopped practicing, learning, teaching the skills that made it possible to have everything we would ever need if hard times came. When bad weather came, we gathered around our woodburning fireplace with a cast iron pot of stew warming on the fire when I was little. We had a well so to have sufficient water so during snow days without electricity, we took buckets to the creek to get water to boil and even to flush potties. We had my granny's kerosene lamps and at night, we snuggled under layers of quilts and blankets. These are what people need to know to survive. Thank you for reminding us. I had a similar friend that complained about no money to pay the utilities and rent but made sure their nails and hair were done weekly and begged the bill money off of others. It's a sick society that needs to get back to the basics. My parents grew up in the depression and made it to have no debt, paid for everything or made it themselves. Built our own brick home and drove a car many years and til there was cash saved to by another one when needed. The era of hand me downs and mama making Sunday dresses is a sweet memory. What a treat to go to the fabric store and choose a gorgeous fabric and pattern for them and even for making camp shorts etc. What a treasure of love and memories. Thank you for reminding us.

I completely agree. I've been talking about what looks to be a severe world wide depression. Although we came up poor, raised by a depression baby and a post WWII baby, will we truly be ready?
I've been buying and canning meat all winter, got a bit caught up on jars and lids. Refreshing my herbal and wild food knowledge...not just what I can eat today, but which are good when canned...which store bought goods am I able and willing to go without.
I live on 500 per month disability, I won't take foodstamps...I garden, can and buy meat to can as soups, chili, stews, plain meat and bone broth. I know how to feed myself and keep warm in winter. But am I really ready?

You have an AMEN! In 2020 I learned to use a pressure canner and to dehydrate. We only have a smallish backyard but we now have 4 raised beds, a small greenhouse and a hoop house in progress. We’ll do as much as we can with what we have. I don’t consider you to be an alarmist. I grew up on a farm and now I’m remembering and returning to as many of those practices as I can in an urban situation. Thank you and God bless you!

AMEN!!! Patera you hit the nail on the head. It is getting scarey out there. Let me tell you what I experienced just yesterday. On Tuesdays I go in to town, off the farm to hang out with my best friend of 50 years or so. Every store we went into had help wanted signs up. A local Goodwill had a sign of $1500.00 bonus to go to work for them! I went to get a coke at a Burger King before my ride back home. It was about 2:30 in the afternoon. I was waiting in the drive thru. When I got up to order I saw a lady from Burger King standing outside and she told me they were closed. They had closed at 2:00 because they didn't have enough workers. I was shocked and said Really? She said they can't get enough workers cause people would rather stay at home and collect unemployment! Then to make matters even more scarey on our local news they had a segment on restaurants not being able to get products. Produce, Oil and Chicken are the hardest to get very much of. One guy said the oil that he usually gets went from $12.00 to $33.00! and where he would normally order 7 bottles he could only get 2 bottles. He hasn't raised his menu prices yet but it is coming. Another restaurant owner said they have had to raise their prices and significantly. Then the newscast went onto say that this all because there are not enough workers. Not enough to pick the produce, to make and bottle the oil and not enough people to process the chickens! Yes it is imperative that each and everyone of us look to our stock. Make sure we have a plan in place. Work those gardens, raise our meat if you can. If you can't make sure you get out there and stock up while we still have things available and watch those sales! Thank You for being a model of common sense. I always love your videos. And by the way those blue slate turkey pullets are the prettiest things!

I planned a big wedding and covid happened then I got pregnant. We bought land in the country with the money instead. Now we have been building on the land. Planting fruit bushes and such. I want my son to have security :) I got him cloth diapers and dried out mullin leaves incase of diaper rash and a creek to wash them in and a hand turn washer. I laugh but I had a hard pregnancy with everything being scare and I was out of work. But now things are much easier. God bless.

Thank you, Patara for being YOU and for being BOLD and wisely using the voice and platform the Lord has given you. As a single disabled young woman without the physical ability to plant a garden, you have encouraged me to do container gardening and building a food pantry to fall on, if needed. I want to have enough for me and enough to share. Even if our current government is spending trillions of dollars, we can EACH, individually be as self-sustaining as possible. Because of your encouragement, I make my own bread, cook my own meals which last me 3-4 days and by God's Grace am in a healthier overall place than I was in January of 2020. It is easy to be tempted to spend, spend, spend on our pleasures, but as a nation, we must use old-world thinking and planning, tending to priorities first - shelter, power, food, supplies to run the house, and ways to survive if we lose any of the above. It is not the to blow money, but instead save it for necessities or spend it on long-term survival things like you have done with a wood cook stove. Meat sure disappeared quickly last year and now it almost double in price. So, joining with a local farm may be my next goal. God does provide for us, but we are called to be good stewards, managers of the work and income He gives. I am working to save 3-6 months of expenses in cash, checking, gold maybe. So that, no matter what happens with the Federal Reserve, I can still pay for my rent, power, food, etc. God bless you for teaching your skills, gifts and wisdom from above. Much love dear sister ❤️

I feel the same way about a yard full of bushes, but nothing to eat. I am making my little acre into a cottage farm. I was raised on a working farm in SC and gardened and kept animals all my life until I left home. We had to sell our home place after my parents died, but that didn’t mean I have given up the farming lifestyle. Every year I grow a little bit more right where I am. It surprises me how much food I can squeeze out here. Right now my fridge is full of free ranged eggs. Every little thing I can grow myself is that much less I have to buy in a grocery store. Keep up your good work! I love watching you every afternoon. 👩🏻‍🌾

I live in ND and ordered my first wood stove. I have long been after my husband to let me buy one as a backup heat source. It gets down to -30 degrees here regularly in the winters. To me having one up here is just a no brainer! I didn't want to rely on a generator and if it would start or if we had enough gas on hand. I ordered mine beginning of March and it is expected middle of June. I hope it doesn't get delayed. I know I will feel a huge sigh of relief once it is installed!

I just stepped back this week and started looking at where I am now versus a year ago. Growing potatoes, sweet potatoes, garlic, raspberries, etc for the first time. Making infused oils, salves, vinegars and soaps. Water bath canning and pressure canning... Better options of storing like wheat berries versus flours... Watching that receipt at the store going down instead of up. Overall feeling better and anxiety going down.

AMEN PATARA! I hear you! I look forward to your videos so much. I always feel like I'm talking to my mom when I watch you. Thank you for that 💞. I lost my mom when I was 22 - I'm 32 now with a soon to be 5 year old little girl. I got into gardening last year like a lot of people. I'm soooooo thrilled I started a big garden when I did, here in Northern West Virginia. My parents had gardens when I was little. Now im teaching my daughter. And found it's a passion of mine! I'm slowly building up a sustainable homestead and teaching people around me. Thank you for ALL you teach! I especially love the Cherokee lessons! I was so excited to find out a few years ago I was part Tusquaran and have always loved learning about Native American culture and history 🤗💝 Thank you Patara!

Yes yes and yes!!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 I did a post on Facebook for friends and family a few days ago telling them to be prepared. Not for the apocalypse but to acknowledge that costs are increasing, look at lumber and gas it only makes sense for groceries to follow suit. Grow what you can learn the art of canning and food preservation. It's only by the grace of God that I was not in a bad situation when cov!d hit. we're a very large family so I keep a well-stocked house and while everyone else was losing their sh!t over toilet paper I didn't have to buy any until mid April! I had a decently stocked cellar and freezer, but going to the market and seeing caps on amounts of food you could purchase was a slap in this American girl's face. How was this happening here in this country 😔 Now I made sure to be even better prepared, chest freezer bought, garden growing, learning how to can 🙌 Someone on twitter said buy land, ammo, grow your own food, good advice 😀

I was one of those that wanted the backyard full of flowers and crepe myrtles. When I retired a couple of years ago I thought I would have extra time to spend with my flowers but... I did the same as you Patara. I looked at my backyard and said there is nothing to eat here. That light bulb went off last July. I decided to dig up my flowers and turned my flower gardens into vegetable /herb gardens, learned how to ferment, bought a nice dehydrator and learned how to dehydrate, bought a food saver to store my frozen meats and vegetables a little longer, bought sturdy shelving units for the man cave (garage) and started buying extra food and other supplies such as batteries, toilet paper, candles etc.. Joined Costco and Sam's Club so I could buy in bulk. Bought a generator with my check and I learned how to store food long term in mylar bags . Still trying to get my nerve up to start canning. Learned to how to bake bread. I go once a week to Dollar Tree and buy some things to put back. I go once a week to Wal-Mart to add to my canning jar supply and buy food to put back. I check all grocery store ads weekly and stock up on meat that is on sale. Once a month I order some freeze dried items. I bought 5 gal water jugs and started putting back water. Bought some rain barrels to enable me to water my garden without costing me an arm and leg. I bought my first gun, then I bought my first rifle, took courses on safety and shooting I keep an inventory of everything I have put back and when I use one of the items I buy two to replace it with. I use to love to buy clothes/shoes, now I think about what I can buy and put back for the money I would spend on that pair of shoes. My husband still has his head in the sand but he never says anything, he just refers to my extras as my hobby. Because of the things that are going on today that I never dreamed I would see, my whole mindset has changed. We all need to pull our heads out of the sand, open our eyes and mind because things are changing and they are changing quickly.
