So very bittersweet. I sold my last farm after thirty years and retired to my city cottage and called it, "Shepherd's Rest." Had another farm before that I had for twenty. I cannot go back to see the last one since I sold it three years ago. It would just be too hard and grieving of my memories of my homestead. My then active life, plants, livestock and the loss of all my immediate family. I am the last leaf on the tree. BITTERSWEET in my last years. However, I was blessed by the Lord as many have not had my farm family life.

We moved from a home we had 47 years. It was a good move but I still miss the old home, memories and where I raised my children. My children miss it too but they have very fond memories also.

Oh my. This got to me. My husband and I are thinking of moving back to the country after living in a busy suburb of Atlanta for 39 years....36 of them in the same house! I know 8 years is a long time to you, but we’ve had 36 in our home and I’m 62 and my husband is 63, and I’m thinking it’s going to be very hard emotionally! We brought our kids home from the hospital to this home and this is where we’ve raised them. But they are adults now with their own lives and I’m just so ready for a quieter, more simple way of living. I’m from a very small town in Kentucky. I miss a small town. The house isn’t up for sale yet, but it’s a strong desire to do so in the near future. Hope we can do it!!! Thanks for sharing the video. God bless.

We sold our mini farm, downsized and moved to another state. We simply aged out of all the work that needed to be done,the horses, the chickens, the gardening, the mowing of the lawn. I was excited for the change my husband, not so much! By the way, I am a first time viewer so I’m viewing a video that is ending a stage of your life!
I just found you guys. Homestead Hearts mentioned you. I was like I am 57, but I think I would like to do a little of this. Something like an Urban farm. Not fully sure what I can handle. Bad allergies..leaf moles,blood pressure and asthma. I am not sure if I can garden like I really want in cooler weather. But I love Tennessee and places where the weather is similar. All 4 seasons, Winter and it cool and white beauty as the seedlings buried deep under the earth develops and rest and come bursting from slumber in the spring giving us foliage, flowers and fruit throughout the summers and fall. Yaas!!

Ok girly, you made me cry with your goodbye to the Homestead that I call home for you and your family. I have watched you for many years, although never commenting, just watching and learning and feel like it is MY homestead too. I know you are happy with your new move but honestly I was there when you got Cochise. and so many of your critters as you call them. Remembering when James was sick and so shy to be caught on the camera and now glad he is beginning to ease up on that. Watched your garden grow and produce and the left behind pumpkin really made me cry. God bless you and your family as you begin to make a life in your new place. I feel that you will be very happy, and I am happy for you but also I am very sad. Me too... a true gift the land and the spirit gave them as a send off. Before she even said it I was in tears and thinking “it’s a parting gift and blessing”.
This tugged on my heart. Just as that old Homestead tugged at yours. You have given us so many bits of knowledge and I'm sure that as time goes by, you will give us so much more.
In 1970 I left the only home I had ever known. Then in 1994, I moved back home, and now own the Old Home Place. I still have all the memories of my other homes, but this IS my Homeplace. I will be here until I die, GOD willing. I could literally walk across the hollow, and in 15 to 20 minutes, be standing by my Family's graves! In our Family Cemetery! I can walk in another direction and be where my Great Great Grandparents are buried. So I know, to a degree, how you feel. GOD bless you Patara, and James and your Sons!

We have been on a similar path, when in 2011 we moved in to my parents’ country home to help take care of them and right away we wound up getting chickens and later added goats and 2 mules. You’re an inspiration and I will continue to follow along with you. God bless you all in your new journey.🥰

Love this. I remember moving from our first home of 12 years where our children were all brought home to as babies. I thought I would be much more emotional than I ended up being. When you know the next chapter will bring so much opportunity to your family it takes away some of the bittersweet feelings. When God leads he makes a way! Bless you and your family! Congratulations and I’m looking forward to your next chapter in your life! We also moved this year and it was a long ride getting our forever home even though there’s many projects, no shed, garage or attic storage but it’s on two acres in a quiet area. We prayed for a way out of apartment living and gave our Heavenly Father the reigns to work it all out and we truly believe He came through for us. We both say that even though we’ve only lived here for 3 month’s it feels like we’ve been here for years and it truly feels like home! 👏👏👏❣️❣️❣️

2020 has also been eventful for us. We downsized and then sheltering in place looking for our home. It took 8 months, because of the crazy market of people moving here to NC. A new season for us also. Left behind fruit trees, grape vines, and figs herbs etc. Now to start anew.
