My first WOW moment was watching The Matrix on DVD on my parent's Infinity RS5 based 5.1 sound system with a THX certified Onkyo receiver. I became a HT enthusiast ever since. I'm currently using my 65" C8 with a 5.2 based Revel Performa3 sound system. Plan on waiting a couple of years to get a 77" Oled and waiting on installing 4 in-ceiling Revels for Atmos.
I have this same 70" SHARP Aquos Quattron 3D TV that I bought back in 2010 for $3200 USD plus tax on a Black Friday sale. It was really expensive when it first came out.. around $10k USD. It still works and looks excellent. Not as good as my new 77" LG C2 OLED TV but still great compared to most LED HD TV out right now.

First TV I lusted after was a Sony Trinitron that I saw when I was a kid at J&R. My uncle was a DJ and Club promoter in NYC and he introduced me to the HiFi world.
To me there's value in test patterns to a certain extent. The real test of any tv is how it performs when you watch movies, sports, play games, and watch HDR content. I appreciate that fact that you focus of how the tvs perform on a day to day basis because at the end of the day people don't buy tvs to watch test patterns we buy it to get a good eye pleasing image.
Those were very nice TV's and definitely a keeper IMHO. I remember my excitement in the spring of 2008 when I upgraded from my 24" CRT to a Panasonic 42" 1080p plasma. I had gotten the TV earlier in the day and went to work thinking about it the whole time and came home at about 1AM at the end of my shift and proceeded to set it up and watch I Am Legend and was blown away. Then I remember in 2011 when Sharp had their 80 and 90 inch TV's priced at $5000 CDN (plus tax) for the 80" and $10,000 for the 90" and I lusted over those. I could have pulled the trigger on the 80" for sure but decided that it was too much to spend on a television especially since I would have wanted the extended service plan as well. I ended up with an LG 55" passive 3D TV for $1180 CDN plus tax instead (which I still run in the spare room now). Outside of that, the Mitsubishi 73" and 82" DLP TV's caught my eye in the early 2010's because of the large screen size and relatively affordable price point.
Always liked the Sony Trinitron. And also liked flipping through those glossy brochures of various brands like Panasonic, Grundig, Fisher, Akai, Toshiba, Sanyo. Thanks for the video. An unusual topic bringing back some good memories. 👍

That Sharp TV looks gorgeous still! Never give that up. My first TV that blew me away was a 24 inch flat screen CRT Toshiba TV as an 18 year old. After years of curved glass screens, a flat glass screen was a revelation. This is one reason why I am just blown away by the quality of TV's that are available to purchase today.

Totally missed this video from you Brian! I think when I was finally old enough and could afford to buy my own expensive toys, the Pioneer Kuro was on the top of my list. Then the Panasonic ZT60 released and I really liked that TV as well but ultimately I was able to buy the 70" Sharp Elite PRO-70X5FD at a significantly discounted price in 2012 when the model was being discontinued. I loved the plasma motion and the way images looked on it but didn't want a TV that produced so much heat and I really wanted a 70" or bigger screen with better brightness for a room that had light coming in during the day. I also felt the 3D image was better on the Elite vs Panasonic. The sacrifice in some motion and colors for a larger and brighter image was worth it to me. If I was not able to get the discount on the Sharp Elite, I would've bought the 65" Panasonic plasma.
Hahaha nice!!!! I have the 60 inch version of the Sharp Aquos! I always wanted the 80" version, back in 2013 it was out of my league but as for the TV I wanted was the Sony XBR4 with the glass edges. Was it a CCFL backlit panel? I really like the CCFL LCD TV's. I don't want this big, so one of my favourites is the Sony 40W5500. We still use that as main TV in the house. Very nice whitepoint, great colour gamut, very even lit panel, deep blacks, good viewing angles, 24/50/60p for fluent motion, no bloatware/spyware, 3x SCART+4xHDMI, decent speakers, rotating feet, and best of all, these are like 10-30 bucks in 2024.
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY, all good here brother. I'm sure you're ready for relaxation after all you've been doing! Thanks for continuing to bring us great content through it all😁
The bezels did give the tv that cool look. Like it looked like it ment business and gave each display character. Also made the tv look bigger. Great video brian 👍 . I'm pretty new to home theater so my first display I really wanted was the lg c7 back in 2017 when xbox one x was coming out. the burn in did scare me so then went with led then 2 years later lg c9 lol I gave in. Awesome to have my dream display but I kinda want to go bigger or even try samsung again for the brightness but scared the panel lottery is gonna screw me over at larger screen sizes. Did use to own a second hand q9fn 75inch which blown me away with the HDR performance on gears 5 back in 2019 and its dark room performance was great but be aware I'm judging by memory lol I only had the display for couple months then silly me when to lg c9 65inch which did work out as 120hz has become a thing so no regrets lol anyway thinking going higher in screen size. 83inch lg c1 would be insane lol or g1 77inch could look pretty sweet on a wall. But I've heard the g1 flat wall mount is a bit of a pain to set up so that has me a little annoyed hearing that. The thing is I still live with my mum so I have my TV in my bedroom so I need to figure out how I'm gonna fit a larger TV again lol anyway I'm moving so once my family has the keys I can start measuring rooms and thinking of plans. I always have the mindset of "this will be my last dispaly" so I need to nail it with the next one. Samsung I need to keep my eye on because they do or use to make great panels lol
I did own a sharp 32 inch 1080p TV for 7 years and it was pretty good, like there was no blooming issues or raised blacks. After that I took a Panasonic viera 42inch 1080p and I like the colours on the screen but the blacks weren't very good so after 6 months I got my first 4k TV in 2017 on the day I got my One X which was perfect timing lol the tv was a Samsung mu7070 UK model it was also 49inches which was nice for me at the time. The the picture was alot better than the Panasonic I had and also input lag was alot better. So then I want something bigger in 2019 so I got the samsung q9fn 75 and HDR was so much better and 4k was more useful at the larger screen size, brightness was so much better. Then I became to harsh in the TV like I noticed issues on it like dimming loading screen logos which was so nip picky and the yellowish tint on one half of the screen. Also i really didn't like how the samsung q9fn looked in my room. So then lg c9 which looked great surprising didn't look that much different from my q9fn but 4k did look better and the oled benefits. HDR was also pretty good on lg c9 and brightness was OK but obviously dimmer in HGIG mode. Still not 100% sure I want to upgrade because lg c9 is still a great TV. I just like dreaming lol
The Panasonic TH-42PZ700 was the first display to make my jaw drop. My dad ended up buying it and keeping it till it succumbed to burn in after about 9 years. I’ve yet to see a better display for cable/broadcast TV.
Bro, i’m not sure what panel it was all I know is the plasma showing what was like a college football game with two college teams that I have never heard of. And I remember it was like looking out of the window and I was amazed. Also, it was in a store I think was called Tweeter in King of Prussia PA
Still have my 2 plasmas, and though they're small (60" Panasonic ST50 & a Pioneer Kuro Elite 50") they both still have beautiful PQ. I won't upgrade to OLED until one of them dies. Just can't give up that motion. Both are still incredibly accurate. Nice, natural tone with surprising pop for plasmas. Always wanted a ZT60 Panny but couldn't justify the leap in cost with as good as my ST50 looks. That Aquos looks amazing though. Always blew my mind for an LCD. Sharp's Elites looked great too.
Hey Brian lately I've been hearing some buzz about FALD maybe some of the edge lit TV's weren't that bad. I have a 2016 Samsung tv and it doesn't have any blooming. The blacks are black and the build quality is excellent. It's one TV that I will never get rid of or give away.
The first TV I really lusted after wasn’t even a panel 🤣 It was a gorgeous black lacquered Pioneer Elite PRO710HD Rear projector ! It was the King of TV’s in its day. 64 inches of 1080i glory ! About $6500 USD 20 years ago. And yes I finally caved and got one ! 🤣
My theory is that LCDs were produced to much higher quality since they had no FALD, so a high native contrast ratio and deep blacks were a must. Now they can use cheaper panels and stick LED zones to pump up the contrast ratio
Hey Brian I have a 1080p Hisense monster TV from a few years ago. It almost looks like a 4k TV. Doesn't Hisense own or is affiliated with Sharp some kind of way? By the way I hope you and the family are all doing well.
Sony WEGA Trinitron widescreen flat 1080i CRT JVC HD-ILA 1080p Rear Projection Pioneer Kuro Elite 1080p Plasma Sharp Aquos Quattron Q+ Until the advent of Full-Array Local Dimming Quantum Dot and OLED displays, these displays to me were legendary. It’s easy to forget the Sharp Quattron displays actually have dramatically more resolution than regular three sub-pixel displays because of the extra fourth yellow sub-pixel. Some late models could accept higher resolution signals and the chip would render the image taking the extra resolution into account when extrapolating the information for the fourth sub-pixel. The yellow sub-pixel also means you can achieve higher average and peak brightness with a lower backlight level, this means you can reduce clouding/flash lighting on Sharp panels to near elimination by reducing the backlight, feeding a full-range signal, and using a bias light behind the TV. Sharp’s modern 8K and IGZO panels are out of this world but extremely scarce and not available in most countries.
My dream display was the Sharp 4K Quattron they showed at CES but never mass produced. Waited, waited, and waited. Then Sharp sold the rights to their name for their TV models. At the last CES that was attended in person, Sharp had a small booth. Tucked away was a large screen 4K display that was manufactured by "the" Sharp, but again never put into production. C'mon shapr...Quattron OLED please :-)
I'm looking to purchase one of these Sharp Aquos LC-70LE845U Tv's for $300. Is been rarely used since they bought it since they are snow birds from Pa to Fl. do you think it's worth spending the $300? Right now I have a 4 or 5 year old Samsung curved. I hope you can answer this question for me
Brian, love the channel, man- I actually have this exact TV (same size) and have a question for you. I’m trying to decide if I actually “need” to upgrade. We mainly watch regular cable, and live sports- my PS4 (non-pro) runs various streaming apps and PLEX for downloaded content. Eventually I want to get a PS5, but not in any rush, really, as I’m mainly a PC gamer. What are your thoughts? BTW I’ve had the Sharp in “game mode” since I got it as I think it gives the best picture and eliminates the soap opera effect.
Hello Austin! Thank you so much for your kind words and for being part of the community and family. You have a great question and you have already answered it my friend. You are happy and love your existing panel and that is all that matters. It fits all your needs and most importantly it's all paid for. Continue to enjoy it Austin!

My friend had the exact same tv and no issues. Eventually though that crappy tv lead me to my beloved Pioneer Elite Kuro plasma. Sometimes you have to travel down a bumpy road for paradise . Awesome comment J D!
still have my 70 in aquos sharp bought it april 2012 still work like a charm,
Awesome Bruce! Sharp is actually making a comeback
Bought a Aquos of-le80844u but haven’t picked it up yet. 3D 24HZ. Can’t freaking wait!😊
Awesome find!! What a treasure! Enjoy and thank you so much for watching
Thanks for the video review
My pleasure Craig!
Still using the Panasonic AX800 from 2014. The blacks still holds on! But waiting for 2022 8K models
Hey Brian, I think the best tv I wanted back in the day was the Sony 60" SXRD!! Wow, I thought that was the end all be all at that point in time😛
Excellent comment John! Hope all is well my friend
I just like dreaming lol
dream display was a high end graphics display CRT (not an "HD" 1080i set) but one of the computer monitors that could do native 1080p or higher.
The Panasonic TH-42PZ700 was the first display to make my jaw drop. My dad ended up buying it and keeping it till it succumbed to burn in after about 9 years. I’ve yet to see a better display for cable/broadcast TV.
I got a Sharp aquois 70inch 4k
With the Revelation upscaling.... It is AWESOME
What is revelation upscaling?
I have a sharp Aquos 60 inch just replaced it with a Sony 65 x950h the sharp is being used in the garage now .
I had a SAMSUNG 40 inch Red Touch of color 1080P LCD and it was an INCREDIBLE TV!! The family still talks about it!!
Awesome! Great comment Chad!
Excellent comment Adam!
Have to say Sony 70’ sxrd that dip was amazing. And the 60’ pioneer elite was nice and expensive
Excellent comment Jim!
My theory is that LCDs were produced to much higher quality since they had no FALD, so a high native contrast ratio and deep blacks were a must. Now they can use cheaper panels and stick LED zones to pump up the contrast ratio
Thank you so much
Pioneer Elite was king.
Hey Brian I have a 1080p Hisense monster TV from a few years ago. It almost looks like a 4k TV. Doesn't Hisense own or is affiliated with Sharp some kind of way? By the way I hope you and the family are all doing well.
I would like to see a Sharp Elite LED. Supposedly the best LCD ever made.
I actually have a friend with one and I'll definitely film it soon!
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY oh sweet!
You're doing the Lord's work over there
Sony WEGA Trinitron widescreen flat 1080i CRT
JVC HD-ILA 1080p Rear Projection
Pioneer Kuro Elite 1080p Plasma
Sharp Aquos Quattron Q+
Until the advent of Full-Array Local Dimming Quantum Dot and OLED displays, these displays to me were legendary.
Excellent comment my friend
I hope you can answer this question for me
How bright and anti reflective is it compared to tvs nowadays?
I hate Sharp for screwing us owners with their banding. They actually told Aquos owners that it wasn't an issue and they wouldn't do anything about it. My wife bought it for as a present. My friend had the exact same tv and no issues.
Eventually though that crappy tv lead me to my beloved Pioneer Elite Kuro plasma. Sometimes you have to travel down a bumpy road for paradise .
I'll never ever buy anything Sharp again.
Thanks for the video n many painful angry memories.
I was much more into sound than video back then. I wanted a Sony car cassette player to replace my car 8 track. Also next
came the tanberg cassette home recorder and player
Excellent comment my friend
I have a 55 inch sharp. aquos. Strange wavy film on picture. Can it be fixed. ?
I'm sure it can but most likely will cost more than a modern replacement
Now that's old school my brother and a great looking tv still to this very day! Did you hear the latest? Sony removed all mention of VRR on their website. Sony is dead to me.
Believe me my friend I completely understand
Did john from value electronics get the u9dg stock ?
Most likely not until next week
Would the QN90A 75 be comparable TV Of that nowadays ?
Yes definitely! Thanks so much for watching
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY The Sharp Aquos 70 3D was the TV I always wanted my brother-in-law had that tv. I love you’re videos so helpful and awesome. Keep making them please !!!! I’m torn between buying the QN90A 75 or LG C1 77 ?
