This is a very enjoyable movie. Anna May Wong is a wonderful performer as well as being elegant, and beautiful. Akim Tamiroff gives a really fine performance The cast is particularly fascinating if you are familiar with the roles they later played in their careers The print is excellent. I can't quite put my finger on the reasons, unusual for me, but it is quite a remarkable, though modest film, We can consider ourselves lucky, or perhaps I should use the word fortunate, to have it for our enjoyment on TH-cam.

This was really good! I am so glad to finally be able to see who Anna May Wong was and see why she was a big star. Shame on those who try to hide things like this from the public. I really like Anthony Quinn, also, and I am so glad to see he starred in movies with her. I met him in person, one day, and he acted like a regular, friendly guy, but he was really big and tall, and I was so in awe of him from watching all his films, that I may have surprised him how he was like an idol and hero to me. It is unfortunate that Anna May Wong was not around long enough to find her appreciative audience, in later life.
Just watched Babylon and am now obsessed with Anna May Wong. I don't understand how I'd never heard of her before. I really wanted to watch Shanghai Express but I can't find it anywhere. This obviously has a lot of issues including horrible yellowface and a thin storyline. Still Wongs role is amazing considering the time. She did do roles she didn't like but I think by this time she wouldn't accept any role she wasn't proud of despite the movie as a whole, and she is the best thing about this movie. I'm glad I found it. Thank you for uploading.
Those money figures would just be chicken feed today. At 1:55, there's a reference to St. Patrick's Day. Apparently that's the day this film was released? The first time I saw Charles Trowbridge was in "Mr Wong - Fatal Hour" starring Boris Karloff.

Especially considering it was nineteen thirty-nine. I would like to know more about the production, such as how did they get so many extras for the fight scene?

I have a BEAUTIFUL statuette and the commemorative quarter of Ms. Wong on my bookshelf. She was exquisite.
