The image and sound quality are very good, they make viewing this film a pleasure. Thank you! I am in awe of how Ms. Wong always gave gravitas, elegance, and dignity into every role she portrayed, even when the character was a stereotype.
Another wonderful Anna May Wong movie is The Island of Lost Men. But equally awesome are Jim Carrol Naish and the legendary fast talking Broderick Crawford. These three are the best performances in the movie. The closing theme song, which is the same that China Lily sings, and is played again on the radio, was actually written just for Anna May Wong. What wonderful appreciation for a charming actress. This is a short but nice entertaining movie. Anyone see how Anna May Wong's character China Lily went from sad, to releaved happy in seconds naturally? I've watched more then a few times on DVD to start my movie watching day. Pretty informative how Gregory Prin explained how he got all those medals...... Tee hee hee.
This bizarre film is performed by some actors who later gave brilliant performances in other films. that is not to say some of them are excellent in this one, specifically Anthony Quinn and Broderick Crawford. Anna May Wong is superb in this as she is in every film she made. She is a fine presence. a refined actress, mysterious and beautiful, I can't say this is a good film, nor can I say it was enjoyable, though I did hold my attention. But I'll watch any film with Anna May Wong. Her white outfit with white hat and veil in this one is mesmerizing.
Running just over an hour - this B-movie does not waste a second - a very strong cast - Anna May Wong a most interesting and refreshing leading lady - J.Carrol Naish - a real boo and hiss baddie; Eric Blore, Broderick Crawford and in what must be one of his first leading roles Anthony Quinn - not bad for a low budget support movie

@@thegalleryofannamaywong Thanks so much! I was recently given some old pamphlets for a movie theater that operated in a coal company town in the 1930s, and saw this was shown as a double feature with "The Renegade Ranger." Really cool to see this stuff and imagine it screening in an isolated coal town back then.
@@thegalleryofannamaywong I really appreciate it! Coincidentally, I just saw that Kino Lorber will be releasing this film with Dangerous to Know and King of Chinatown on bluray in May - hopefully a sign of more to come!

This is a bit if historical hysteria but though l barely followed the politics and plot l very much enjoyed the heavy drama and swampy location. Its so bloody hot but wardrobe from full suit and tie to half naked natives. Typical hollywood extremity. 360°. That ending was kinda dr moreau-ish. What happened???
A Chinese general, who disappeared in the Malaysian jungles with stolen government funds, is sought by his cabaret-singing daughter who wants to clear his name.

Anthony Quinn - this was his 20th movie role in his early career.
Broderick Crawford - this was his seventh film
@@josephpetrino1741 thank you -I did not know that
I can't forget Naish's racist treatment of James Hong on TV series, resulted in Hong's firing. Hong revealed this in an interview.

Is this movie likely to stay up, or is there any danger of it being removed from TH-cam?

There is another version of this movie with Carole Lombard called white woman.
She had such poise and acting talent. It's a shame conservative racism put a damper on her career. Also wish the sound quality were better here.
You mean like that 'conservative' Franklin D. Roosevelt ?
@@hazcat640 What's it got to do with FDR? You do know Wong is a Chinese, not Japanese name.
@@markw4206 You called out 'conservative' racism. I was reminding you that it is the liberals who are racist.
Oh, please!
