    It amazes me that Me And My Golf has 4 times the subscribers that Paul has! All the other TH-cam channels including the afore mentioned teach golf from a perspective of the watcher having the same talents as the teacher. When I watch Paul's videos I always get lightbulbs, when I watch the others it just makes me feel that golf is a more difficult game for athletic youngsters. I just wish I could cross the Atlantic for a lesson. Thanks Paul!

The more views you get the more people they tell and it builds. I can actually work with anyone, anywhere in the world now with my new app. It is live, video coaching. You can find out more here: www.paulwilsongolf.com/site/coachlink People who have used it are loving it because now they know what to work on. This is not swing analysis. This is live video coaching. There are countless variables in a golf swing and only one constant, the target line.
    I never forgot the emphasis you placed on the importance of alignment in your other videos and it has served me well. Thanks, Paul.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very good. Yes, lots of variable. Why not make sure we check the ones before we hit the ball. There are 16 of them. No sense hitting a back shot because of faulty, alignment, weight distribution, hand position, arm rotation, face, distance from the ball etc. etc. etc. is wrong. Check these and actually be in a position you can hit a perfect shot. Now you can watch your ball to determine what other variables are wrong when you hit a bad shot.

    Paul is the best (by far, easiest to understand) instructor on the web, in my opinion. I played mediocre golf for 40 years and never knew I was swinging with my arms. Watched a few of Paul's videos and bought "Swing Machine Golf" and now I pretty much have to TRY to swing with my arms. Result is much more consistent, crisp, ball-striking and I don't wake up the next day with sore fingers and arms after a range session like I did for so many years. Keep up the great work, Paul. You've made me enjoy golf again!

    I just finished reading your book “Swing Machine Golf” for the 4th time. It’s a great book, with great photography, even though it was published in 2002. I know you now call it Bodyswing but I refer to the book because, sometimes, a hard cover book is good reinforcement for what can be seen in a video.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Glad you enjoy it! Although it's similar there is a lot of newer stuff, shortcuts etc. in the body swing to make it even easier for people. Over the years I answered tens of thousands of questions so I tried to incorporate this into the body swing. Those who have both say they compliment each other. Glad you are still reading it and working with it. I still teach this to this day.

    Funny you mention this about alignment because I have noticed that a lot of courses set up the tee boxes to screw with players alignments. They will aim you at the trees forcing you to set up more left which as you know makes you fade even more. I try to pick a spot in front of the ball like you show and then block out the rest. This makes a lot of sense to me. I've always heard that when most pros lose their swing and go in for a lesson, they usually work on setup and alignment. Sometimes they have a problem with tempo and timing, but when the alignment is wrong there is not much hope that they will make a good shot. Like you said, I don't know why more training videos don't talk about setup and alignment. I guess it's not interesting enough to the people in TH-cam land.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It all starts with grip and setup so yes, at lot of times (even for pros) this is what needs to be fixed. This is not a sexy topic so I guess others blow it off. I will be the lone voice that keeps stressing that this stuff is vital. As people listen and keep checking it they will understand it's importance. Glad you get it.

You capture and correct every flaw and tendency imaginable and offer solutions that are consistent with your methodology and that allow the ball to finally go *^&($/& straight - every time. You're a golfing *^&($/& godsend!!!

      So it's not your clubs. You need to keep working on positions making them perfect. I don't really give everything away on YT but most of it. Keep working on grip and set up. Then precise hinging and rehinging getting rid of any slice spin. Then it is all about coiling and uncoiling. You watch your ball. This will tell you what to do to instantly fix your own swing and get the ball back on target. This tip is critical:
      th-cam.com/video/bLskGy7rulo/w-d-xo.html
      Then it is working on your short game so you can get it up and down making up for your mistakes. This takes a little work. So be sure to be doing daily practice swings working on the pieces and movements to make them perfect. It's pretty rare when I see someone doing exactly what I teach. There is always something they are missing when they come to me for lessons.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are working in a net you would be working on positioning, path, contact etc. Just depends what level you are at and what you are trying to do. Don't just hit ball after ball. Pick out a position and master it then move on. For path you could pick out a spot right of center and get the feeling of swing out a little. Contact ... well ... most would have you thinking of contact. I would have you build the swing to get the contact. A great swing hits great shots. So figure out what you want to do. I would be doing 3 practice swings to every ball. If you get on a roll and hitting a bunch of balls in a row go back to the practice swings.

    When I swing with an iron, I have a rather vertical rise and with the driver it would be rather flat. Is this a mistake on my part?
    Thank you for your answer.
    Sincerely Marc.

      Hello. Nice to meet you. I have some students in France. The difference between the swings is ball position and width of stance. The plane is flatter with longer clubs because they are longer so if you do the same swing this change would happen on its own. You might want to watch these tips. They might give you more explanation:

    Paul, do you have any tips for clearing the mind and shaking off the mental frustration of a single really bad shot (or hole) before it becomes a compound problem? I know being angry creates tension making it hard to keep the arms loose and focus on the current shot at hand in a relaxed manner, but sometimes it's hard to let go of that frustration before the next shot.
    I was playing a really nice round of golf yesterday when I finally hit a slice onto another fairway and lost my ball (I swear somebody picked it up because it landed on the fairway and not in any rough or trouble but yet was nowhere in sight when I got there just as a foursome on that fairway drove their carts away). I was pretty mad about having to add 2 strokes for a lost ball but I still finished the hole with a 6 which meant I shot par but for the lost ball. Really not too bad, but... still thinking about the lost ball, I walked up to the next tee box and skulled a 9 iron over a short par 3 green and got a 4. Still not a terrible score, but I let that skulled shot get added to my lost ball frustration. Then on the 8th tee box, still thinking about the lost and skulled balls(!), I hit my driver waaaay out of bounds and lost a 2nd ball. At that point, I was so mad at having to add 2 more penalty strokes and losing a 2nd ball that I topped the next two shots, then hit a tree, then skulled it over the green, then chipped it over the green, then putted long then short and wound up with a totally uncalled for 10 on a par 5. I know my problems on that 8th hole were due to being angry, tense, making bad club choice decisions, and eventually just hitting it with a "who cares my round's ruined" poor attitude. I was FINALLY able to say "oh well" and breathe/relax/recover at the 9th tee box where I hit a really nice straight and long loose arms drive (probably my best of the day) but I remember saying right after that nice drive, "who cares, too little too late" which wasn't the attitude I wanted to have when finishing my 9 hole round. As we walked to the car all I thought about was that 10 and how I never should have let that hole get so out of hand (I'd instantly forgotten all the good shots/holes I'd had before things went south).
    That's the kind of thing I've seen happen to my golfing partners and myself many MANY times over the years. It's not usually something that your playing partner can shake you out of either or that you can shake out of them when they're having a bad round. What do you tell your students to do to calm themselves down after a bad shot(s) so they don't do what I did? I don't think I've played a single round of golf in my whole life without one person in my group saying, "I should have stayed home" and even worse when the one person's in that bad state of mind very often the other(s) are playing really well which can add extra salt to the wound... although sometimes it creates belly laughs because we all know what's happening yet we can't seem to stop that Indiana Jones boulder of frustration from rolling.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The problem is you don't know how to fix your swing. You hit a bad shot then you hit another or attempt the wrong fix and it just becomes guessing. So the bad shots continue so you get mad. This is why it happens to your friend too. I need you to change how you think. First, you are never going to hit every shot perfectly. So you need to be on the look out for the bad shot or the clue that bad shots are about to start happening.
      1. Bad shots start happening because you are playing well. If so, you will want to hit the ball even longer and harder. When this happens the arms activate you will start coming out of it looking for these amazing shots you think you are going to hit. So you start hitting it thin, topping or slicing.
      th-cam.com/video/cNhIyhi136E/w-d-xo.html
      In your case you sliced it. This is swinging too hard locking your wrists and coming out of it. As soon as you did that you should have realized it and started immediately working on rolling the wrists to keep them loose.
      th-cam.com/video/GnQ2FfdQBDo/w-d-xo.html
      You would be doing this in practice swings before hitting your next shot. You would not be thinking of this as you hit your shot thought. You are doing it to unlock the wrists. You are always thinking body to hit the shot.
      2. Slow down. As you see in the first tip I posted as soon as you start hitting these shots it's telling you that you are swinging too hard. So on your next shot slow down to 50%. Your 50% is actually 70-80% which is how hard you should be swinging anyway.
      3. Learn how to fix your own swing. You need to get into the habit of watching your ball and analyzing what you are doing wrong and immediately start applying the correct fix. I have a whole section on this in my body swing product. I do touch on it in this tip:
      th-cam.com/video/o_YFEIiNxZk/w-d-xo.html
      In simple terms, the wrists affect spin. The body affects direction and hitting with arms affects contact. So a slice has you with the face wide open. Not sure this was actually a slice. Probably a push fade. So you would have rolling the wrists 5-10 times before hitting your next shots and watched your next shot. This should have eliminated the slice spin. If not, you roll it again etc. plus slowing down you should have hit the next shot straight. So it is watching your ball and working on either the wrists or body or loosening up to get it back.
      Now you see why you are not alone. Your friends will go through what you are going through too because they don't know how to fix it either. So you see how focusing on the ball and getting it back will outweigh you getting mad at hitting the bad shots. Now into the future you need to make it a habit to watch your ball and understand what is happening so you get on applying the right fix.

      @@paulwilsongolf Thanks, Paul. I appreciate all of your help. I'll definitely work on putting that advice to use. Instead of loosening the wrists and slowing down before the next shot, I definitely tried to hit harder, faster and farther to try and make up for lost ground after those bad shots which is the exact opposite of what I should have been thinking about. Instead I should watch the ball flight, identify the problem (and accept that bad shots will happen), unlock the wrists for a while before stepping up to hit the next shot (but don't think about the wrists once I go to hit the actual shot), then think "hit it 50% nice and easy" instead of harder and faster (and going from my backswing point A to a full finish at point B which has really helped). All that stuff went out the window for a couple holes for sure due to reflexively going into Incredible Hulk mode and thinking about blowing up my score card instead of thinking about fixing my swing by using the above steps. Thanks again!

    Hey Paul I always struggle with a tendency to lose my swing towards the end of the round but today I stayed focused throughout pretty much the entire round because I realised that swinging out of my shoes IS NOT the way to good golf. The main thing I focused on the whole round was loose wrists. Whenever my right wrist locked up I would hit these pushes or thin shots. I have to trust that loose wrists WILL result in good strikes as long as I'm coiling and uncoiling my body. I was getting Par and Birdies on these tight par 5s with water and OB on either side of the fairway because I was able to hit my woods and wedges dead straight because of loose wrists, even out of the rough! Thanks for the tips.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow that's great. Yes, hitting is not going to work. Loose wrists is key along with coiling and uncoiling. We all want more. Greed is not good in golf though. I keep saying this but into the future don't see your hands as hands and wrists as wrists. Imagine it's a metal hinge. How would this work in life? It would be loose. So any tightness would not be there in a metal hinge. If so, the hinge would be rusty which is not going to work very well. If you think like this you will realize and trust the looseness every time. • @method341
      @method341 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@paulwilsongolf That is such a good way to look at it because it is true! Your hands and wrists are simply there to impart force from the body. Any tightness slows down the transfer of the full force.
