    Topping and thinning the ball can cause extreme frustration for most golfers. The inability to manage the RADIUS of the swing is one of the most common faults displayed by amateur golfers, especially in higher handicap players.
    Conversely, the BEST players manage their swing radius far more effectively, and in doing so, are able to demonstrate more consistent ball striking and greater power in their shots.
    Radius management is really just elbow and arm management. Keeping the elbows close together throughout the swing will help you improve your radius control and your ball striking quality and consistency instantly! Using an object between your arms when you practice can help you to really FEEL the correct tension in your arms and help you master this movement more quickly.

    As a result of putting in place what I have seen in your video I have begun to strike the ball the best ever in my circa 50 years of playing. Many thanks Rob. 😊

    Hi Rob. This drill is superb because you only need to think about keeping the object squeezed between the arms and not moving your head. I struggle with multi-tasking but even I can do those 2 things!
    My training aid is a toilet paper roll - jumbo size from Costco - but brand obviously doesn't matter. :) It works great. If anyone is concerned about what others might think on the range, just put it into a bag.
    Thanks for all your great videos.

    In another video you talked about pushing the right arm out during the back swing to keep the left arm straight. That has helped me a lot.

      That's great to hear! 👍🏻

    This to me is the most KEY piece in the swing as I've seen many times when my arms are not straight the radius greatly diminishes and the contact is so poor. At least if keep my arms straight I know my radius is maintained and get close to the expected shot on a mishit.

    Well done, I have a new app that films me and rates the swing 1-10. My three reoccurring issues are:
    Forward Lunge follow through
    Early extension
    Hip slide
    Any suggestions

    Rob, are the arms straight as a result of the swing or a conscious movement we have to think about?

    • @robcheneygolf1
      @robcheneygolf1  หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a great question, Jay. I would say a bit of both. But good body motion is necessary to facilitate STRAIGHT ARMS. You can improve the body motion indirectly by consciously thinking about ARMS STRAIGHT. My new video which discusses EXTENSION in the follow-through is the part of the body motion that aids ARMS STRAIGHT. If it helps I’m 64 been playing since I was 26. 11.6 now been as low as 5. Short game has always been fairly solid 45% up and down. 75% fairways. Only hit driver 225-235 now. Was never long, peak 280

    Do u recommend using this drill with driver also?

  • @mack4123
    @mack4123 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Hey Rob! Is your backswing identical for driver and irons? Besides the setup of course. Squeezed elbows, shoulder down, hands in, etc? Do you push the buttend of shaft slightly forward at setup for both?

    • @robcheneygolf1
      @robcheneygolf1  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, it’s essentially the same major movements. The driver backswing is longer, but mostly I’m trying to do the same with irons and driver. Handle is more forwards with irons as the ball position is behind the lead shoulder. Driver ball position is further forwards, so the left arm and shaft are more vertical at address.

    I noticed your feet are on top of the ground station. Where should your feet be?

    I use this aide, but would you advocate the ball, hackmotion or another wrist positioning system over the ball since the ball does make you keep your wrist close or the ball drops?

    • @robcheneygolf1
      @robcheneygolf1  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think the ball is a good overall aid - basic, but very effective. Hackmotion is great as well, but it's a completely different tool and price point.

    The one thing I noticed is how short your club is for you. Your 8 iron barely reaches your upper thigh. You obviously hit it well so it must be fitted to you.

    • @robcheneygolf1
      @robcheneygolf1  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a really interesting observation. The clubs I'm using in these videos aren't actually mine, so you're right to observe they are too short for me!
