      @@melissamaribel 3:09 why do you round to three sig figs

    • @benitoshapiro7131
      @benitoshapiro7131 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@jonahmaurer5937 because out of the two numbers that were multiplied (24.5 and 63.2751), the least sig figs were in 24.5, and there were 3 sig figs in that number. When multiplying or dividing, you round the answer to the number of sig figs that is the least out of what you multiplied/divided

You are truly a life saver of many others like me; my professor do not know how to teach and as soon as I saw your video, I thought it was like some other youtubers that jumps on for views but Omg, I so loved your video, you helped me a lot. This videos deserve more and more and beyond views. Thank you for everything.

    On 4:03 how did yoy get from 218.5813 to 218.58 why did you remove those numbers

    • @michellep.r4845
      @michellep.r4845 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      I was also confused 😭 but i think I got it
      We ended with 218.5813 right.
      So we look at our numbers again with what we added up
      142.01 has 2 decimal places.
      41.9903 has 4 decimal places.
      34.581 has 3 decimal places.
      The result should be rounded to the smallest number of decimal places among the numbers involved in the addition, which is 2 decimal places.
      The digit after 58 in 218.5813 is
      If this digit is 5 or more, you round up the last digit you are keeping (in this case, 8).
      If the digit is less than 5, you keep the last digit as is and drop the remaining digits.
      Since 1 is less than 5, you do not round up. Meaning, you keep 58 and drop the remaining digits.
      Result:
      218.5813 rounded to 2 decimal places is 218.58.

      In multiplication and divison of sig figs, the least amount of sig figs in the equation is the same amount of sig figs in the result. Now in addition does that still apply but with decimal places? For example my teacher wrote: 0.02cm + 2.371cm. The one with least decimal places is 0.02 so the result 2.391 would round to what?

    Just a quick clarification from the video for all of you chemistry people trying to learn online: more sig figs does not lead to a more ACCURATE measurement, instead, more sig figs leads to a more PRECISE measurement. Great explanation!
