    Hi Melissa, I am studying Chemistry because I have to take it in High School LOL. I am currently a Junior. Chemistry is not my favorite subject at all-mostly because it's science and math combine- but your videos are the first ones I go to when I feel stuck. They are EXTREMELY helpful! Can you do a video on electron configurations sometime in the future? Would be very much appreciated:)

    Hi quick question how do you know where you move the decimal

  • @bluecloud3059
    @bluecloud3059 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Hi Melissa. To answer your question i'm studying chemistry because it's a very interesting subject. All these chemicals get mixed together and BOOM you get a change in colour...explosion...a gas etc. I'm thinking about taking a (BS) degree in chemistry. The thing is i'm not really sure about it because as you already know i have to be very good at maths and calculations. Maths has always been a problem for me. I have to look over and over again to understand something. I know it will cause a huge problem for me specially when it comes to practical chemistry. I'm not even sure if chemistry is the right major for me. I'm so confused and my mind is all over the place. University is such a big step for me and i don't know what to do. Sorry for the very long comment, but i have no one to talk to about this since i'm homeschooled.

    Hello I’m wondering and thank you so much for this video! Helped a lot!
    I have an example question: what if in scientific notation there is only two values after the decimal point. For example;
    (1) 673.43
    There is only 4 and 3 after the decimal point, I’m confused on where to start with my decimal.
    And also:
    (2) 0.00790
    What if there is a 0 after the whole numbers? I know it’s a negative, meaning a small number but do I just ignore the zero and place my decimal in between 7 and 9?

    This is great! The only critism I have is why you did not use significant figures when you were reporting some examples (3:07)? I wanted to use this as an introduction to scientific notation in a chemistry class but don't want my students to develop bad habits by showing numbers in the mantissa that are not significant. For anyone who’s having issues with the exponent’s in the answers, like getting 61,200mg (6.12x10^5 mg), here’s what you’re doing wrong.
    What you’re probably doing is typing 10 then your exponent button, then -6 into your calculator. Now, instead of giving you 10^-6, it’s giving you 10x10^-6. That’s why your answer is wrong. You need to type 1.0 (exponent button) -6. That will give you 1.0x10^-6. Many calculators will just let you do (exponent) -6 too.

    This is not clear and the video ends before you can explain further love your videos can you please explain. In other words 12.409 x 10^-6 ONLY ONE Digit has to be in front of the decimal. So this is not correct because there is 2 numbers (12) that is in front of the decimal. How to fix this is BECAUSE it is a negative exponent move the decimal one place to the LEFT. When you count the total numbers that is after the decimal you get 4 digits. So the correct exponent will move from being -6 to a -4 figured it out.
