    Great video.
    Fab weather; it's such a different mountain in 30mph mist and rain, from gorgeous days like this. Awesome Cuillins panorama.
    And no annoying music, or distracting narration. Thumbs up to boot steps and heavy breathing!
    Thanks

      Hi Raymond. It's a great mountain, and certainly doable for most when taking the tourist route like we did. Just a little awkward on descent with positioning coming down the slabby bit, but nothing too taxing. Thanks for watching. ATB, Andy.

      Aye, an amazing mountain, really good fun on a day like this. A little scary yeah, the Cuillin always are, but nothing too difficult technically on ascent, and the grippy gabbro adds to the confidence. Just a couple awkward bits on descent with positioning. You'll love them when you come up. Maybe do a couple in a great weather window this summer? Sgùrr na Banachdaich and Bruach na Frìthe are the two I did first (Walkhighlands routes), since they are the easiest, and give fantastic views over the ridge. Cheers, Andy.

    Top class coverage again Andy.One of my fav routes that I have done.For me the crux move was the slab @13.20 especially on descent.Gave me a squeaky bum moment on the way down trying to get my body in the right postion to step down off it.😃👍

    I'd love to go up there, but I don't know how I'd cope with the exposure. I've done Bruach na Frithe via Fionn Choire, which is basically just a strenuous walk, but Sgurr nan Gillean is another matter.

    • @andy-astro
      @andy-astro  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Aye, there is a fair bit of exposure on this one as you get close to the top. Blaven and Sgurr na Banachdich are on par with Bruach na Frithe, with not much exposure until you reach the summit. Sgurr na Banachdich has some of the best views on the ridge too, with it being so close to the middle. Worth doing those two first, before tackling the more exposed ones. Hiring a guide is also an option, though with booking so far in advance there's no guarantee of good weather.

    The "tourist path" is reasonably easy to follow going up as there are cairns and scratch marks. Not so easy going down. Very easy to lose path.

    • @andy-astro
      @andy-astro  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      👍 It can be a bit tricky in the clag, especially if you don't have GPS. On a good day like this one it's ok. I often turn around at significant points and burn the scene into memory for the way back down.

  • @Slademarkable

    Great video, superb conditions. I was on the mountain in 87, a bit of a blur now, first week in June, after a week of good weather, it snowed! Was running on adrenaline going up, that descent was a bit more tricky.... I'm sure we were more on the right side, going down, one big step on the down scramble. I don't think there's any "easy" options, a true mountaineers, mountain.

    • @andy-astro
      @andy-astro  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mark. Yeah it's a great mountain, with lots of different ways to tackle the same obstacles, like a puzzle you have to unravel to reach the goal. Great fun! Cheers.

      Andy, watched through many of your video's, refreshing not to have music and a running commentary. What strikes me, is the quality of image, superb - can I cheekily ask, what camera / video gear you're using?

    Another fantastic video, Andy. What stunning weather as well - you'll never see the Cuillin Ridge better than this. Arguably the most difficult/scary ascent/descent on the Cuillin ridge?

    • @andy-astro
      @andy-astro  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Steve. Aye, perfect weather for the Cuillins with very little wind. It's quite exposed in places yeah. Perhaps one of the more difficult 'tourist' routes, at least of those that don't require a rope, though not too difficult ascent on a good day. A couple of tricky bits on descent. Cheers, Andy.

  • @eyeshandy
    @eyeshandy ปีที่แล้ว +1

    We went up there in slippery conditions and decided to turn back very near the summit because of a dicey looking drop down onto a ledge and I’ve never been able to find it on a vid! Any idea which bit. Looked like a typical ‘bad step’ but no word of it in any write ups I can find.

    • @andy-astro
      @andy-astro  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @eyeshandy
      @eyeshandy ปีที่แล้ว +1
