I feel that Shadow Man in Mega Man 3 was the hardest boss. You never know if he is going to throw two shurikens or sliding. It's an unpredictable pattern.

There was a Retronauts episode a few years back which discussed that. Apparently it was a common riff - not just video game music. They played clips from three or four different songs that all had the same progression as "Faithfully" did, or at least very similar.
Mega Man 3 was my first Mega Man, a friend got it way back in 1992 (late EU release), and we played it to death. I was the first kid in the street who managed to beat the game, resulting in other kids challenging me with MM1 and 2. Aw, those memories. I'd go back and complete these classics any day.
Even if it's not as good as we thought, they can't do worse than Mighty n°9 so... But until now, other than the graphical style it looks good (and for reminder, Mega Man X8 has the best controls of the entire serie and it looked awful) So i'm not worried right now.

2 Things about the music: 1: The music from Dragonheart sounds like the sad version of the Elecman music. 2: That Cardi B song synced up waaaaaay too well with the Charlie Chaplin clip you used.
Wheatley, the prick X3 is fun still, but pretty sloppily designed imo. It's like an early handheld game almost: Still fun, but feels off and sloppy in areas. Most notably how much damage all enemies deal, how rigid the optimal order is, how simple the bosses and all their animations are and how weirdly Zero is implemented

The Anniversary Collection uses the Rockman Complete Works versions from the PS1, while the Legacy Collection versions were the original NES versions. Kinda wish he did go for the Legacy Collection but, hey, details and opinions.
Mega Man Legacy Collection on Xbox is a GREAT collection of ports that preserve the original graphics, and is superior to the other two console versions with 480p native output. Also, backwards compatible on the Xbox 360, however Mega Man 8 does have some slight bugs on the 360.

Then I got the Mega Man X Collection in middle school, and loved the heck out of it. As time went by, memories of the classics collection kept easing itself into my brain. I wanted it back! I felt mortified for walking away from classic Mega Man. But it was only a matter of time when one of my biggest wishes came true, Mega Man coming to Super Smash Bros! Then by pure luck I found the Anniversary Collection for cheap. To cut to the chase, now that the Mega Man Legacy Collection has been released in 2 packs, now I'm wondering whether or not to even get them. I own multiple copies of these games, and hold no regrets, but still.
Don't buy the Legacy Collection 1, it's just horrible emulations of the NES games. The Anniversary Collection have all six NES games with enhanced colors and zero slowdowns, adding the great feature of weapon swap using the shoulder buttons. Legacy Collection 1 doesn't even try to bring that feature back. I would suggest you to only buy the Megaman Legacy Collection 2, because it has Megaman 9 and 10 and, most importantly, was made by Capcom themselves, which guaranteed a awesome compilation, instead of the shoddy work that Digital Eclipse did on the first one. Also, I will buy the Megaman X Legacy Collection 1 and 2 because they are also being done by Capcom themselves, so I suggest buying it too!

Because of this, Mega Man 11 is being made with the North American audience in mind instead of the usual focus on the Japanese audience (which I never understood considering it's such a minuscule market compared to Europe and North America).

MM4 is surprisingly underrated. It first introduced the charge shot and branching paths in stages. There also a few new side characters which stick around. It represents the cementing the classic Mega Man game style. MM7 isn't as good, but it does look great and bring the artistic style of the series into clearer focus.
I say go for it! It probably won't do much to help get ready for MM11 because it's looking to be 2.5D instead of just 2D, but you're in for a good time anyway. Having only played 2 and 3 so far, 9 and 10 will probably be most comfortable for you to play next.
Yes!! If you have a Nintendo switch I recommend getting legacy collection 1 and 2 when they come out here soon on that platform because the mega man games feel perfect in portable mode and you can play them all 1-10 wherever you want!
I play through these games fairly often. Not only because of my love for them, but because it only take a couple of hours to beat them. I'm so tired of games that feel like they will never end.
I find it funny that the anniversary collection is an emulation of an emulation. The mega man games in the anniversary collection are based on the ps1 versions released exclusively in Japan, which you can also get on ps3/vita.

When I first played Mega Man as a kid, I liked it but it was really hard. Then Mega Man 2 came out and blew my fucking mind with how awesome it was. I would play that game for hours at a time day in and day out just messing around with all the different ways I could beat the bosses with different weapons. Thankfully Capcom gave it another shot with MM2 and lowered the difficulty level a little cause I wouldn't play another MM game if MM2 was as hard as MM.

Jirard, mega man 3's was story was not a rehash of 1 and 2's story. After the events of mega man 2, doctor wily claimed that he was done being a bad guy, and started working with doctor light to build a giant robog called gamma. To construct gamma, they needed to gather 8 different "energy elements." 3's robot masters were created to gather the energy elements, but then they started acting violent, se mega man blew them up. Then doctor whily ran off with gamma.
Honestly, I think Mega Man 2 is slightly overrated. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good and it did help the series. But I don’t think it deserves all the attention it gets and definitely isn’t worth the “one of the best games ever”. There’s plenty of things wrong with it and it makes me roll my eyes whenever someone refers to it as “the best ever”. But then again, it’s all a matter of opinions.
It is one of the best games ever, though. There are a lot of better games, in and out of the Mega Man franchise, but that doesn't mean it's not near the top or that it shouldn't be considered representative of the series. 2 and 5 are the ones I most highly recommend to new comers, 5 because it's among the most approachable of the classics and 2 because it's a good example of "NES hard" until you figure it out. I think it helps MM2's popularity that it is the easiest game in the series. But that does not take away from how much it improved on the formula, I truly think this was one of, if not the best game ever when it came out.
U1GX I actually do too. However, it is very close in terms of quality in my eyes. I can't help but feel that both a a bit overrated, though both are certainly solid titles.

Actually, mario came out in 1985. It was ported overseas in 1986 and 87 but it was not made in that year, unlike mega man. That's why mario looks much more primitive.

I got the Legacy Collection for the 3DS and it brings me back to playing it during my childhood. I really love Mega Man and can respect that you like the X series of games because they are good, but 1-6 will always be my favorites and the ones nearest and dearest to my heart

Part of the reason the Megaman sprite stands out against its competition at the time is partially because of the color. The color that the Nintendo had the most different shades of was blue, and so by making Megaman blue, the designers were able to make a more detailed sprite.
Capcom only noticed they had something going on with Mega Man after the success of Mega Man 2, a game that was made only because the creators wanted so bad to create, they developed it with their spare time, cause Capcom didn't believe the franchise would be successful after the not so good reception and sales of the original.
I played Mega Man going back to the first game. I had a neighbor who had it and we'd play it all the time. Later on I played his copy of Mega Man 2 and eventually my parents got me a copy of Mega Man 3 for my birthday, so that is the one that historically is my favorite. However, the music for 2 is still in my opinion on a whole other level and is the best in the series imo.

With how much of a quality jump there was between 3 and 4, I'm fairly certain you will enjoy revisiting 4-6 as much as 1-3. Truly a near perfection of the formula, despite Mega Man 5 having some lacking points.
Hate to tell you this Jirard but Capcom actually wanted to forget megaman after the first one flopped it only got a sequel because Keiji Inafune and others asked to be allowed to work on it when they weren't busy with other projects.
Like also many other famous games. No one really know what become big over time. And Keiji Inafune is rotten egg. He is in fact the reason why this franchise is basically dead now.

I have physical copies of each of the first six games! I got Mega Man 2 first, for the low cost of four dollars; someone at the pawn shop didn't know their games and marked it for the bargain bin. The one I paid the most for was Mega Man 5; that game set me back fifty bucks! But, I supported my local games store doing so, so I'm not complaining. Much.
Great vid Jirard. By the way if you didn't know, your turbo shots actually do less damage than your regular buster. I found that some bosses that I was trying to spam hard with the turbo fire actually went down a lot easier with the regular singular buster shots, even if it was harder to plant a good hit on them.
QOTD: I would make a secret double boss fight containing Dayman who is the fighter of the Nightman and chaimpion of the sun. These two titans will be locked in a battle to the death, and only after paying the troll toll Megaman would enter the battle siding with one over the other. He would absorb the defeated ones' powers and gain an ally. Also, more Always Sunny jokes during the fight.
You got one detail wrong, Jirard. Games of that era were, in fact, NOT designed to be rented. The whole reason why they were so difficult, and often, more difficult when released outside of Japan, was to ensure that kids couldn't beat the game over the weekend, so if they wanted to practice until they could beat the games, they would have to buy it.
As a movie as well as a game buff, it made me smile to see the Chaplin reference. Buster Keaton next, maybe? Either way, thank you. Made my day a little better.

I would play that game for hours at a time day in and day out just messing around with all the different ways I could beat the bosses with different weapons. Thankfully Capcom gave it another shot with MM2 and lowered the difficulty level a little cause I wouldn't play another MM game if MM2 was as hard as MM.

Jirard, mega man 3's was story was not a rehash of 1 and 2's story. After the events of mega man 2, doctor wily claimed that he was done being a bad guy, and started working with doctor light to build a giant robog called gamma. To construct gamma, they needed to gather 8 different
"energy elements." 3's robot masters were created to gather the energy elements, but then they started acting violent, se mega man blew them up. Then doctor whily ran off with gamma.
Honestly, I think Mega Man 2 is slightly overrated. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good and it did help the series. But I don’t think it deserves all the attention it gets and definitely isn’t worth the “one of the best games ever”. There’s plenty of things wrong with it and it makes me roll my eyes whenever someone refers to it as “the best ever”. But then again, it’s all a matter of opinions.
It is one of the best games ever, though. There are a lot of better games, in and out of the Mega Man franchise, but that doesn't mean it's not near the top or that it shouldn't be considered representative of the series. 2 and 5 are the ones I most highly recommend to new comers, 5 because it's among the most approachable of the classics and 2 because it's a good example of "NES hard" until you figure it out.

I think it helps MM2's popularity that it is the easiest game in the series. But that does not take away from how much it improved on the formula, I truly think this was one of, if not the best game ever when it came out.

Actually, mario came out in 1985. It was ported overseas in 1986 and 87 but it was not made in that year, unlike mega man. That's why mario looks much more primitive.

Don't forget that Akira Kitamura was the original creator of Mega Man, and Inafune was just an artist at the start. When Kitamura left, Mega Man got handed off to Inafune.

I got the Legacy Collection for the 3DS and it brings me back to playing it during my childhood. I really love Mega Man and can respect that you like the X series of games because they are good, but 1-6 will always be my favorites and the ones nearest and dearest to my heart

Just finished the Mega Man Legacy Collection on Switch. That's games 1-6. So classic, so fun. Mega Man 3 is still my favorite to this day!

Part of the reason the Megaman sprite stands out against its competition at the time is partially because of the color. The color that the Nintendo had the most different shades of was blue, and so by making Megaman blue, the designers were able to make a more detailed sprite.

Capcom only noticed they had something going on with Mega Man after the success of Mega Man 2, a game that was made only because the creators wanted so bad to create, they developed it with their spare time, cause Capcom didn't believe the franchise would be successful after the not so good reception and sales of the original.
I played Mega Man going back to the first game. I had a neighbor who had it and we'd play it all the time. Later on I played his copy of Mega Man 2 and eventually my parents got me a copy of Mega Man 3 for my birthday, so that is the one that historically is my favorite. However, the music for 2 is still in my opinion on a whole other level and is the best in the series imo.

I realised that no one even mentions about Mega Man on Game Boy when speaking on classic Mega Man games. It was identical in gameplay to first 3 games. Maybe people are not even aware that this game exists? It's one of my favourite Mega Man games tho - it deserves more love IMO ;___;'

MM2 was the first game I ever played over 30 years ago so I've no doubt played it more than anything else. It's nice to see someone else with as much genuine passion for the series. With how much of a quality jump there was between 3 and 4, I'm fairly certain you will enjoy revisiting 4-6 as much as 1-3. Truly a near perfection of the formula, despite Mega Man 5 having some lacking points.
Hate to tell you this Jirard but Capcom actually wanted to forget megaman after the first one flopped it only got a sequel because Keiji Inafune and others asked to be allowed to work on it when they weren't busy with other projects.
Like also many other famous games. No one really know what become big over time. And Keiji Inafune is rotten egg. He is in fact the reason why this franchise is basically dead now.

I have physical copies of each of the first six games! I got Mega Man 2 first, for the low cost of four dollars; someone at the pawn shop didn't know their games and marked it for the bargain bin.
The one I paid the most for was Mega Man 5; that game set me back fifty bucks! But, I supported my local games store doing so, so I'm not complaining. Much.
Great vid Jirard. By the way if you didn't know, your turbo shots actually do less damage than your regular buster. I found that some bosses that I was trying to spam hard with the turbo fire actually went down a lot easier with the regular singular buster shots, even if it was harder to plant a good hit on them.
QOTD: I would make a secret double boss fight containing Dayman who is the fighter of the Nightman and chaimpion of the sun. These two titans will be locked in a battle to the death, and only after paying the troll toll Megaman would enter the battle siding with one over the other. He would absorb the defeated ones' powers and gain an ally. Also, more Always Sunny jokes during the fight.

You got one detail wrong, Jirard. Games of that era were, in fact, NOT designed to be rented. The whole reason why they were so difficult, and often, more difficult when released outside of Japan, was to ensure that kids couldn't beat the game over the weekend, so if they wanted to practice until they could beat the games, they would have to buy it.
