Did you know that one of the most classic retro platformers of all time didn't sell that well at all? And yet here we are with a Mega Man Anniversary Collection celebrating its 30th anniversary. The first Mega Man was set to be a console exclusive and lock down that market, and though it didn't do well it showed the potential and power of the Nintendo consoles. When I last played Mega Man, Mega Man 2, and Mega Man 3 I was young and faced with their daunting difficulty. Now? Now I got moves. I've been around the block a few times I got this. Young me would be impressed.
To me, Mega Man was always best played in blocks. Mega Man 1, Mega Man 2, and Mega Man 3 blend together to create a fun (and sometimes frustrating) experience.

2 Things about the music:
1: The music from Dragonheart sounds like the sad version of the Elecman music.
2: That Cardi B song synced up waaaaaay too well with the Charlie Chaplin clip you used.

Elec Man is totally an 8-bit version of Faithfully by Journey.
1 more thing about the music: Elecman's music sounds like the happy version of Faithfully by Journey.

5:04 Mistake: Jirard says the first Mega Man collection only features the first 1-6 for Mega Man classic series
Correction: It featured Mega Man 1-8 and two arcade games + extra features, OST's etc.
StoneMonkWisdom He also mentions the game being released for the 20th Anniversary, while the game came out much earlier.
He's talking about the Legacy Collection, if i am right. But he still forgot the extra-art, challenges, time attack, etc. So IDK.
Theres the original xbox version with 1 to 8 and the legacy colection 1 has 1 to 6 and legacy colection 2 has 7 to 10

I feel that Shadow Man in Mega Man 3 was the hardest boss. You never know if he is going to throw two shurikens or sliding. It's an unpredictable pattern.
I can't wait for Jirard to play stuff like Megaman Legends/Zero/ZX. And to continue Battle Network because the first game has...well...first game syndrome.

Jirard, another great video. I find myself going back to play through mega man 2 at least once a year. I recently completed 1-8 last year and had a blast. Im most looking forward to your new game plus of wild arms. Cant wait for that episode. Keep up the good work.
It's about time to revisit that old trilogy again myself, it's been about a year and a half I think. Sheesh, when did a year become such a short amount of time?

Mega Man 3 was my first Mega Man, a friend got it way back in 1992 (late EU release), and we played it to death. I was the first kid in the street who managed to beat the game, resulting in other kids challenging me with MM1 and 2. Aw, those memories. I'd go back and complete these classics any day.
I spent so many hours of my childhood playing Megaman 1-4 on NES back in elementary school, renting them one weekend at a time.
Worth every moment.

There was a Retronauts episode a few years back which discussed that. Apparently it was a common riff - not just video game music. They played clips from three or four different songs that all had the same progression as "Faithfully" did, or at least very similar.
Objection! That Charlie Chaplin and Cardi B was a pretty awesome mash up.
I'm not a big cardi fan but those kinda worked together.

The next Megaman game I'm going to play will be Megaman 11 :D I'm so ready for it.
I wouldn't overhype it if I were you.
Even if it's not as good as we thought, they can't do worse than Mighty n°9 so...
But until now, other than the graphical style it looks good (and for reminder, Mega Man X8 has the best controls of the entire serie and it looked awful) So i'm not worried right now.
Let's just hold our breath till we get any more info on it. Cuz we havnt seen anything about it other than the reveal trailer

I highly recommend you look up how to import other SNES ROMs so you can get Mega Man X2 and Mega Man 7 as well. Both of them are absolutely fantastic
Mellon x3 is nice too, but kinda hard and backtrack inducing
Wheatley, the prick X3 is fun still, but pretty sloppily designed imo. It's like an early handheld game almost: Still fun, but feels off and sloppy in areas. Most notably how much damage all enemies deal, how rigid the optimal order is, how simple the bosses and all their animations are and how weirdly Zero is implemented
Stevey 17 agreed. I have only played one mega man game, mega man 2 on my NES Classic. When I’m done with Super Metroid I’m going to have to move on to Mega Man X
My only question is, with the Legacy Collection being available on multiple platforms, why did you decide to go back to the old Anniversary Collection of the past generation?

The Anniversary Collection uses the Rockman Complete Works versions from the PS1, while the Legacy Collection versions were the original NES versions. Kinda wish he did go for the Legacy Collection but, hey, details and opinions.
Legacy Collection is a lot harder to complete because of those challenges

My favorites... 2, 3 and x. All of which I've owned since they came out...and I still have the boxes complete with manuals.. It is sooooo freakin hard not to sell them. But I know each year ty gain value. Thank god I had the foresight as a kid to keep em nice. As for my TNMT action figures? Half of those I melted in my "playing with fire" stage when I was 9.

Honestly, Mega Man 2 really established the series theme and aesthetic. In Mega Man 1, it seemed like they were still figuring everything out for the series, but they established it all by Mega Man 2.
So guys, before I play Mega Man 11, is it worth playing all of the other mainline entries (except 2 & 3 because I already beat them)?
You should probably pick up one of the legacy collections
MM4 is surprisingly underrated. It first introduced the charge shot and branching paths in stages. There also a few new side characters which stick around. It represents the cementing the classic Mega Man game style.
MM7 isn't as good, but it does look great and bring the artistic style of the series into clearer focus.
Heck yea. I love 4 and 5 quite a bit. 6 is also really good. Ohh yeah 9 and 10 rock balls too.
I say go for it! It probably won't do much to help get ready for MM11 because it's looking to be 2.5D instead of just 2D, but you're in for a good time anyway. Having only played 2 and 3 so far, 9 and 10 will probably be most comfortable for you to play next.
Yes!! If you have a Nintendo switch I recommend getting legacy collection 1 and 2 when they come out here soon on that platform because the mega man games feel perfect in portable mode and you can play them all 1-10 wherever you want!
Mega Man Legacy Collection on Xbox is a GREAT collection of ports that preserve the original graphics, and is superior to the other two console versions with 480p native output. Also, backwards compatible on the Xbox 360, however Mega Man 8 does have some slight bugs on the 360.

Are you sure you didn't confuse it for a PlayChoice-10? They played NES games inside arcade cabinets, and Megaman 3 was available as a title on some.
Or maybe you played The Power Battle or The Power Fighters, which were Megaman co-op boss rush type arcade games that came out significantly later and were themed graphically after Megaman 7, but did have bosses from the early games.
If this is real, I'm gonna need to see some proof.

If I ever start a "Let's Play" type series, I already know I'll be starting with the Mega Man series. One of my absolute favorite series of games.
I missed a lot of the first 120 games, I am glad you got back to the first 3 Mega Man games. I got them at a flea market when I was about 8 years old and it was history. BLUE BOMBER OP!!!
You know, I feel confused, should I stick with the Anniversary Collection or should I consider getting both Legacy Collections, including the X Legacy Collection? Because as a kid, I got the Mega Man Anniversary Collection as a rental, but I turned my back on it, because I thought it was either hard or just uninteresting to me. Then I got the Mega Man X Collection in middle school, and loved the heck out of it. As time went by, memories of the classics collection kept easing itself into my brain. I wanted it back! I felt mortified for walking away from classic Mega Man. But it was only a matter of time when one of my biggest wishes came true, Mega Man coming to Super Smash Bros! Then by pure luck I found the Anniversary Collection for cheap. To cut to the chase, now that the Mega Man Legacy Collection has been released in 2 packs, now I'm wondering whether or not to even get them. I own multiple copies of these games, and hold no regrets, but still.
Don't buy the Legacy Collection 1, it's just horrible emulations of the NES games. The Anniversary Collection have all six NES games with enhanced colors and zero slowdowns, adding the great feature of weapon swap using the shoulder buttons. Legacy Collection 1 doesn't even try to bring that feature back. I would suggest you to only buy the Megaman Legacy Collection 2, because it has Megaman 9 and 10 and, most importantly, was made by Capcom themselves, which guaranteed a awesome compilation, instead of the shoddy work that Digital Eclipse did on the first one. Also, I will buy the Megaman X Legacy Collection 1 and 2 because they are also being done by Capcom themselves, so I suggest buying it too!

specifically the 3rd games in each series, as those were the tops, especially Budokai 3 and BT3.

I play through these games fairly often. Not only because of my love for them, but because it only take a couple of hours to beat them. I'm so tired of games that feel like they will never end.

Honestly, I think Mega Man 2 is slightly overrated. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good and it did help the series. But I don’t think it deserves all the attention it gets and definitely isn’t worth the “one of the best games ever”. There’s plenty of things wrong with it and it makes me roll my eyes whenever someone refers to it as “the best ever”. But then again, it’s all a matter of opinions.
It is one of the best games ever, though. There are a lot of better games, in and out of the Mega Man franchise, but that doesn't mean it's not near the top or that it shouldn't be considered representative of the series. 2 and 5 are the ones I most highly recommend to new comers, 5 because it's among the most approachable of the classics and 2 because it's a good example of "NES hard" until you figure it out.

I think it helps MM2's popularity that it is the easiest game in the series. But that does not take away from how much it improved on the formula, I truly think this was one of, if not the best game ever when it came out.

No game can be for everybody, you're right. Just you don't interested in it is any problem, I too have no interest in Super Mario series, it's a good series but I didn't get hooked by it. Also Zelda and Metroid games.

I got the Legacy Collection for the 3DS and it brings me back to playing it during my childhood. I really love Mega Man and can respect that you like the X series of games because they are good, but 1-6 will always be my favorites and the ones nearest and dearest to my heart

Such a good game series. And Megaman 3 is my fav. Even one of my all time favourites of all time (nostalgia at play, too, but it's so good and the music is excellent).
I find it funny that the anniversary collection is an emulation of an emulation. The mega man games in the anniversary collection are based on the ps1 versions released exclusively in Japan, which you can also get on ps3/vita.
And this is why the Anniversary Collection is far superior than the Legacy Collection 1.

Also, just a quick question: You said in the crash video you would use the updated version of each game, but you used the OG Xbox anniversary collection, and not the new legacy collection. Why is that? BTW, I actually own the Xbox version of the aniversary collection, which is the same you used for this video.
If I were to make a robot master, it would be rock man. He would have the ability to roll boulders in front of him and chuck pebbles at an upward angle. His name is also be reference toward Mega Man’s original name.
(Edit: when rewatching and checking the older videos, you never did a video on 9 and 10. Maybe you could do them around the time 11 releases?)

Mega Man 1 was the very first game I ever rented. I still love the series to this day.
Damn good episode, good sir. Always found the first few Megaman games to be a bit shaky myself, design wise, but they still definitely hold a special place in my gaming heart. Can't wait to see what else you've got down the pipeline in the future.

To see Jirard complete the Zero and ZX games would be crazy, especially for Zero 3 and 4 with it's Data Chip stuff (also goes for ZX and ZXA).

Great vid Jirard. By the way if you didn't know, your turbo shots actually do less damage than your regular buster. I found that some bosses that I was trying to spam hard with the turbo fire actually went down a lot easier with the regular singular buster shots, even if it was harder to plant a good hit on them.
Fun Fact: Mega Man games always sold best in North America. Because of this, Mega Man 11 is being made with the North American audience in mind instead of the usual focus on the Japanese audience (which I never understood considering it's such a minuscule market compared to Europe and North America).
The first three are great. They are dear to my heart, because I have played them with friends so much.
