Really love the build. I've been taking my time actually conceptualizing what steps I'll be taking to convert my van. Seeing people like you do it really helps !
For a lot of quick easy sanding, use angle grinder and a sanding flapdisk. it saved me sooooooooooooo much time when i made a coffee table out of a pallet. just the bits that are going to be exposed need a gentler sander but for everything else, Angle grinder :D
Quality work. Suggestion, rub paraffin or canning wax on the bed slats where they make contact when opening or closing. The wood will much less friction. The wax is sold anywhere they sell canning jars and supplies. Good for sticky saw blades too.
Use some bees wax in between each bed slat to slid better. Wood box style pull outs with felt bottoms, just add a bull nose trim piece to keep it from sliding out while moving. Easy to lift the box over the lip of the bull nose.
Hi Hugh, nice job well done. I have a suggestion for a back rest !! Make a long length of cushion, upholster it and Velcro attach to back of wall, move it and store it when not in use, just an idea
Hi Hugh!. 🙋🏽 First overall Thanks, SO MUCH, 🙏🏽you share your experience with us. I do learn more when you get yours tools than you talk just because my first language is portuguese, and I am a Brazilian person. Of course I have learned a lot with you but every time I lost many words that you talk about your experience.😭😪🤧😊
I got myself some rough old pallet slats from a skip. Going to have to smooth them down. How I'd like one those plainer/thickener thingy - save the toil with the sander
Currently looking at Roll-up slats base supporting an airbed .. maybe ? depends if the airbed is comfortable enough ? New RV campers have beds that slide down from the ceiling .. great use of space but limits head room.
If I was you i would build the drawers out of wood to match the rest of your van and I like your corner couch that you I've just built and great video contents
I’m in dilemma what to do . A fix bed or a sliding 1 . And the reason is the mattresses .all companiesrip you of for bespoke bed things. Do you know any affordable 1 ?
So the easiest way for me was to get a foam mattress that i could cut to the shape on the main L sofa. The offcut then was used on the pull out part. you can wrap the foam in covers and when I just had a double sheet on all the time so that when in sofa mode i tucked the excess under the mattress
I bought a large white trunk to store my infant niece’s stuff in th-cam.com/users/postUgkxNuLbiXpLQ-mKH5NlyjrNe88hiCk2N3Cg , as she comes to my house frequently. For now, it’s toys on one side and diapers, wipes, and other baby care items on the other. As she gets older, it will be all toys. I had originally wanted a trunk with a hinged lid, but I was afraid of her smashing or pinching her fingers in it. This will be a much safer option. The lid has great padding in it and it is actually nice to sit on. It feels very sturdy and secure. Looks like it can be wiped clean easily. If it gets abused by her, I won’t be terribly upset because I paid less than $50 for it on Prime Day.
Where do you find the time to do the work or is it a weekend project? Also how long did the project take in terms of weeks? Really enjoying the vids mate
I am very blessed to be self employed so I can make time here and there. The Boxer is still on going but it was liveable in 3-4 weeks not working every day
I think I have came up with a super simple new bed set up that could be a HUGE game changer when it comes to van builds. It is the best of both worlds. And let's every hight of person sleep laying straight and allows a huge amount of space to open up.. honestly it's so simple I cant belive I didnt think of it sooner. You people want to know what my concept is, let me know and I'll share if not I'll just make it for my van when I finally start a build. and then make a video to show everyone my one of a kind van. But I have never seen or heard of anyone doing my concept.
I have a question So what van is this specifically I have one more question Is there any way you could incorporate storage into this for cooking outside
Too friggin complicated.I built a bed in one hour using 2by4s and scrap plywood, plus two inch high density foam.Mine goes lengthwise, so I can stretch out.
You inspire me. I am now decided on this build. I shall keep you posted. Thank you.
Best video I've seen on this topic. Repurposing wood and excellent instructions 😁
Yep I’m gonna do your pull out bed, watch loads of vids and yours is the simplest and nicest!
cheers matt
This is awesome. I love the idea of an L shaped sofa - would be so comfy and that little bit of extra storage!
Hugh, I have watched a lot of "van conversion" videos, and I must say, your videos are by far, the best! Thank you!!!!
Thank you so much Tammy!
Mate, this is exactly what I needed. You are a life saver. thank you
What a great video over this good sofa bead and thank you for your good work here.
Really love the build. I've been taking my time actually conceptualizing what steps I'll be taking to convert my van. Seeing people like you do it really helps !
Thanks Jesse! Yeah I struggled at the start to visualise but so happy with the way it has turned out.

Next tool on my list haha

Cheers, beeswax seems to be a popular option so is definitely the route to take!
Very nice! Good use of recycled wood.
Thanks Michael!
Very happy with. Worked as well as i expected
Thanks! I finally understand how these beds are made.
Hey Hugh, you make everything look so easy. Thank you for sharing this with us
Hey Shana, thanks so much!
Very smart and practical way to make a sofa bed in a van ...that's how I'm gonna do my bed area too !
Great to hear!
thanks for giving me some good Ideas In converting my van ...Very helpful!
Fantastic. Simple and shick! Thanks for sharing.
thanks!
Hi Hugh, nice job well done. I have a suggestion for a back rest !! Make a long length of cushion, upholster it and Velcro attach to back of wall, move it and store it when not in use, just an idea
Hi Chris, thanks for the suggestion. I need to run some tubing for the electrics and water behind the back rest but I do like your idea!
why not add metal trunking for pipes and cable under the van or flexible conduits underneath?

Hey Hugh, thanks for this great video. I was wondering what dimension of pine you used (i.e. width) - thanks!
If my memory serves me well its 44mm x 44mm planed timber
@@HughTube thank you!
I really love how it turned out!!
Thanks!
Top saw same as mine recomend it to eny one saves soo much time
They are just fantastic!
Hi, very good video. Could you tell me what type wood you used to do the frame and size. Thanks!
I got myself some rough old pallet slats from a skip. Going to have to smooth them down. How I'd like one those plainer/thickener thingy - save the toil with the sander
I would love to have access to a planer!! haha
Nice work well done!!
Great design. Would love to see how it works with the matress on
Nice design, nice build . But for me in my SWB van fixed beds take up too much space, I'll be looking at fold-away bed.
Would you like something that folds against the wall or flat packs?
Currently looking at Roll-up slats base supporting an airbed .. maybe ? depends if the airbed is comfortable enough ? New RV campers have beds that slide down from the ceiling .. great use of space but limits head room.

Easiest thing I have found for mattress is to get a foam mattress and cut it myself
Hey man! I like that idea very much. I'm planning to buy and convert the same car in 2018. I'm excited to see your progress :) cheers from germany
Thanks for all the support! You will have to send me some pictures of your conversion when it's done!
HughTube i will for sure! See you on your next video! I'm excited
hey that was an awesome video thanks for the ideas. Do you have a full van tour video of this finished van?
Theres a few vids since that show me and friends using the van, have a look round on my uploads and you should hopefully find some useful vids
Great video. I'll be using this video to build a similar bed in our van
Thanks!
great job
Cool man, very smart, I love it, thanks for the video
Looks great, well done.
Thank you!
Excellent idea. Do you secure the static legs to the floor at all?
yes for added security and to stop minor drifts while driving
awesome great video i will use this system in my van :)
Very nice work there! New subscriber, looking forward to more videos from you, thanks :)
Thanks for your vids, very helpfu👍
I am currently making the pull out sofa in our van. The problem is there is not enough time in the day 😐
I know the feeling, good luck!
Fast forward. Then those pesky steps only take 20 seconds.
That is perfect mate... love it...
My question is is about the mattress you are using with that.
Like how do you set up your mattress and or make it for when it’s pushed in.
So the easiest way for me was to get a foam mattress that i could cut to the shape on the main L sofa. The offcut then was used on the pull out part. you can wrap the foam in covers and when I just had a double sheet on all the time so that when in sofa mode i tucked the excess under the mattress
Great bed design.
Thanks!
centre leg on pull out bit maybe useful to stop centre warp and rubbing but im no expert
Tnx 4 all information gd Bless
well done hugh! looks good.
Cheers!
How did you decide whether to have the pull out part on the right or the left side?
I bought a large white trunk to store my infant niece’s stuff in th-cam.com/users/postUgkxNuLbiXpLQ-mKH5NlyjrNe88hiCk2N3Cg , as she comes to my house frequently. I am very blessed to be self employed so I can make time here and there. The Boxer is still on going but it was liveable in 3-4 weeks not working every day
Where did you get the cushioning for this? Thankyou
You don't seem to drill any pilot holes when you screw in, are you not worried about the wood splitting?
Usually I would drill pilot holes but in certain situations based on grain direction and wood thickness I can usually get away with not doing it.
Hi Hugh. What size baterns did u use for the bed frame? I just bought some 2x2 but I'm worried it's a bit too thick? Thanks pal
The only worry about going too thick is weight but 2X2 is very close to what I used. I bought in 44mm X 44mm
Great tidy job good stuff .

Very informative thanks
Don't forget to set the saw up it will probably need adjustments
Yeah I ran through a few test cuts to get it all running smooth!
What did you use for a mattress that would fold?
I used a foam mattress and the back rest of the sofa part filled in the pull out section
Did you mount the legs to the frame of the van?
Yes
Mate, can you share with me what Van model this is? I'm after just some dimensions of it.
2016 peugeot Boxer
I have a question
So what van is this specifically
I have one more question
Is there any way you could incorporate storage into this for cooking outside
My Van is a Peugeot Boxer 2015. All the storage under the bed could be used for kitchen storage.
@@HughTube Do you know if European vans are close to the same size as USA vans?
Great work, shouldnt be too heavy.
What size timber do you use for the framing??
44mm X 44mm planed timber
Miters look good but are weaker than lap joints.
Hey, do you have a video of this in use?
Hi Dan, do you mean sleeping in it? The video does show it being pulled out.
Talk to me about your camera set up?
What do you want to know?
Was this van a SWB?
It's the L3H2
Looks good, but looks a bit flimsy,,,, wood is too thin and small.
Good and very accurate designs are on the Stodoys website.
You sound like Jude Law 👍🏻
haha cheers
SYDNEY DRUMS l6
Can I borrow your miter saw
Where do you live?
Too friggin complicated.I built a bed in one hour using 2by4s and scrap plywood, plus two inch high density foam.Mine goes lengthwise, so I can stretch out.
That's a flimsy build, though.
It was fine during use, not apparent flimsy-ness. Plus over engineered leads to excessive weight
Speak more fast. Then it ll be easier to understand u
So fucking sick of that stupid annoying Creative Cloud commercial.
Irritating music
