    nice work mike. You might want to consider adding some structural support. 2x4 on the flat won't carry the weight of an adult male and your couch will sag in weeks. Cheers!

      I’m torn. Although I agree because more bracing the better, I’m not sure if it’s necessary. I built a bed inspired by the legend Matthias wandel. I used 2x4s for the slats that has a wider span than this sofa. I added about 8 2x4s and was intending to add a middle support beam but never did because I had no issues. No sagging at all and we’ve been using the bed for about 6 years now.

      It doesn’t take much to do it, and it’s peace of mind and takes all that work into the next century by lasting that long. Sometimes lazy doesn’t take the life of a project too far. If it were me, I’d add the piece so it last like the pyramids! Ha! We have had things last in our home ages, and it saves a ton of money down the line when u may have to repair other things at the same time that don’t last, like water heaters cause they don’t want to make them out of galvanized metal. When it comes to water, u would think they’d care about the longevity of expensive items. These companies need to take more pride in their items, but in my case, the same company made double the money after 15 years. That’s more items in the landfills and not a recommendation to others when they need one.

    Looks great, and you make it look so quick and easy too. I'd love to see the cushions without that seam across the front.
    And I wish that you were more specific on what material your "vegan leather" is made from. I'm assuming it's just polyurethane like most cheap ones are, especially since there isn't any additional info listed as a selling feature. But there are so many more sustainable and ethical options available now, so I hope you're planning on exploring them!

    • @dwwoodbuilds
      @dwwoodbuilds 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have to wonder how much time it took to find those. I'd have to spend at least 45 minutes going thru them at homedepot and still probably wouldn't find enough. Not a dig at you Mike, great build, just ranting about the dimensional lumber situation (and cost!).

    • @ModernBuilds
      @ModernBuilds  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      it's all about digging for good boards and buying extra when there's a good batch!! I probably leave 4/5 of the boards I sift through when picking lumber and I always buy extra for the boards that twist on me as they dry that way I have extra matching boards!

    • @grahamb7947
      @grahamb7947 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ModernBuilds That's also not even taking into consideration, the difference in humidity levels between your home/workshop and the lumber yard from where you make your purchase. Huge tip to give to followers when it comes to buying, is to ensure the wood is stored inside to avoid changes in humidity, which can twist/cup/warp a perfectly jointed piece of lumber all too quickly.
      Same applies to the lumber yard... it's very likely the pieces were actually perfectly jointed at some point, but due to most lumber yards storing their stock outdoors (at least where I am)... it doesn't stay this way for long... cause humidity. To avoid this, I'd say, find out when the yard gets/cuts fresh stock and get it as soon as you can, fresh, to avoid outdoor exposure damage.

    The bench looked good the only thing I could change is either screwing a battern along the middle from the under side to help stop sagging or build a leg to help stop sagging or turn the timbers on there side they will sag a lot less like that
