I recently got an X-Type 2.2D, for cheap because it had a "gearbox fault" and was going into limp mode. It's an automatic, and when I'd put it into gear there would be a major "clunk!" from the transmission, felt like the gearbox was going to fall out!
So I had the bonnet up and when I turned on the ignition I could hear a clicking from the engine so I went and had a look, and this actuator was trying to move. I gave it a little push, helping it on its way, and it completely fixed the problem. I did do the Mr. Muscle trick a few days later as the turbo was obviously clogged up with crap.
Pretty strange though, that the gearbox was making such a violent thump when the problem was the turbo actuator.
But good video, just the right pace and the right amount of information.

Brilliant video, just did it myself; I removed the exhaust bolts and dropped the exhaust, sprayed Mr muscle through a pipe onto the inside of the turbo and worked back and forth, car is perfect now 👍

Mine is an earlier Euro 3 TDCi with a pneumatic actuator, so moving it is a bit of a bugger. It does seem to struggle when revved - not moving cleanly. Still, after 168k, it's bound to have a bit of crap in it. Got a 90 degree drill on order for Mr Muscle purposes...

Mine is Down then when started goes up then goes back down straight away. Is something else wrong limiting the boost?

Hi there Anthony this turbo is FGT or VGT? fixed geometry turbo and variable geometry turbo. I have a different model of actuator, it is circular one.

Hi there, very informative video. I have a question, my turbo doesn't look like yours. My car is the 2003 Tdci 2.0 diesel and appears to have a vacuum actuator. Do you know if this fix also works on the older turbo?

sticky actuator , remove that sir clip
on arm , now start pushing it forward and back , if sticking then spray wd 40 and oven cleaner all over it , the arm , keep pushing it forward back Nd spray , do it 20 30 mins , u will find it has loosened up good and proper , replace sir clip and done , thing is tho u might have to repeat it every 6 months

I had a sticky arm, I have cleaned out the turbo and the arm is nice and free. I still get the P132B error in 3rd over 3k revs. Do you think the actuator is shot?

Same problem here. I made an appointment to the mechanic to take the turbo apart and clean the variable geometry.
