Mondeo Actuator Movement
This video shows you how the actuator arm should move, if it doesn't move as it should, the most likely cause is a choked up turbo, view my other video to show you how to cure it for less than £15, the turbo fault is common on the Duratorq engines, many people have been duped into buying a new actuator when it hasn't been faulty, its the turbo that sticks

Mondeo Diesel Turbo fix
มุมมอง 319K10 ปีที่แล้ว
Mondeo Diesel Turbo problems cured for good, easy fix to sort out your turbo troubles. simply drill a hole a back of turbo, thread it and put a nut in, Mr Muscle is 2quid as opposed to 12.75 for turbo cleaner. this is a common fault on Duratorq engines, cure it cheaply!!

    Any one help. I’m going to do this. But unsure what size to tap the threads and what size nut to use. I’ve never tapped a thread before so very weary on how to do it. Cheers.

    Quick update...carried this work today..took about an hour or so to complete. Yes, had to remove the diesel filter canister, but all straightforward....just be careful when drilling the smaller smaller pilot holes, so not to snap the drills as space is tight when holding your 90 degree drill...rather than using Mr Muscle, I used a specialist turbo cleaner aerosol that came with a long tube that and sprays in 3 directions...also includes an additive to put into your filter canister and fuel tank...

    Hi Anthony, great video. I know its a few years old, but still current for Mondeo and Jaguar X type owners.....Great idea to use a spare turbo to show how it works. Plan to do this soon....can you remember how thick the metal is where you drilled the hole in the turbo manifold? assume you removed the diesel filter to give you more room to drill the hole...and how long was the straw you used? if it helps anyone else the standard thread for a M8 bolt is M8 x 1.25 (as mentioned use 6.8mm drill size) . If used with grease, any swarf will stick to the tap thanks Pete

    This is something that we Jag owners have known about for a long while but it's takes guts to actually do it, well done for doing it so well. Be good if they sold a kit consisting of a drill bit a tap bit the bolt and the washer.

      Does it fix the issues? Mine clonks into limp mode and shuts engine off under heavy acceleration

  • @JoeBob79569
    @JoeBob79569 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I recently got an X-Type 2.2D, for cheap because it had a "gearbox fault" and was going into limp mode. It's an automatic, and when I'd put it into gear there would be a major "clunk!" from the transmission, felt like the gearbox was going to fall out! So I had the bonnet up and when I turned on the ignition I could hear a clicking from the engine so I went and had a look, and this actuator was trying to move. I gave it a little push, helping it on its way, and it completely fixed the problem. I did do the Mr. Muscle trick a few days later as the turbo was obviously clogged up with crap. Pretty strange though, that the gearbox was making such a violent thump when the problem was the turbo actuator. But good video, just the right pace and the right amount of information.

    For everyone it has worked for, how did you find access? Due to the fuel filter i struggle to come in straight on the turbo and that's with a smaller drill bit to get started. I'd be nowhere near with a 6.8, i'd be coming in on a fair old angle. Did you remove the fuel filter to get access?

    So in 2020 as it is now Anthony, how long did this fix last for, unlikely as it may be 7 years on do you still run that car, if not how long did it continue to work for, I've ordered a right angle chuck to give it a go on my 2.0D Jaguar X-Type which as others have said is the same engine pretty much, I'd be interested to hear your response as my car isn't giving me any problems but I thought this may be a good way to help keep the turbo in tip top condition as I'm intent on keeping the car for a good many years.

    This saved me a lot of money. Had the fault code reader diagnose a turbo fault and told it could be the actuator or the turbo itself. Symptoms were glow plug light flashing and going into limp mode. When I released the circlip from the actuator arm going to the turbo and pulled it back and forth it was squeaky and stiff. Even when the glow plug light wasn't flashing there was a slight hesitation on acceleration. Purchased the tools and set about the job, some tips. My 2007 Mondeo TDCI has a heat shield, there are 4 bolts. Three are visible on top and one is out of sight at the back, be careful not to drop this. The main hole is cut with a 6.8m drill bit but you need the right angle drill attachment and drill a pilot hole first. When you cut the thread with an M8 tap and die, liberally apply a lubricant and go slow, I did a maximum of 2 turns before backing out and cleaning off the swarf and applying more lubricant (3 in 1). It takes some time to cut the thread but when the resistance ends and it is turning freely, your in. I used the applicator from a tin of WD40, make sure it is snapped back fully so it is open and apply liberally, the foam came out of the hole when I did it. Leave 10-15 mins and go for a blast after sealing the hole with an m8 bolt and washer. I did this 3 weeks ago and not gone into limp mode since.

  • @djsherz
    @djsherz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    My 2.2 TDCI has been getting progressively worse for the last year, now it's stuck in limp mode all the time. I disconnected the actuator rod earlier today, and discovered it was very stiff to move... fault found! I was dreading the thought of taking the turbo to bits, so I'm definitely going to give this a go instead.

    Did this a couple years ago. I think it was after seeing your video. It works great. My 06 tdci runs like a bag of crap.had injectors changed. Removed egr. Put air intake straight through. Still runs like crap. Coil light limp mode regular. Smokes now and again and rattles like pennies in a tin can. And after all this today i squeezed 66.9 mpg. Not sure i want to tinker anymore. Might lose some mpg. Not a great fan of these cars.

      You're drilling the exhaust side, so any fillings (extremely small amount if any at all) exit through the exhaust

    Hi mate. Going to try this on a ford kuga 2l tdci with the sticking vanes problem. I know its been a while since you posted this video and I read somewhere that the ingredients have changed in the mr muscle cleaner. Apparently it has a lot less sodium hydroxide and does not foam up as much. I was wondering if it is still working for you, or have you found an alternative cleaner which might have more sodium hydroxide. Thanks and kind regards.Mark
