So I just received my MX Ink stylus and I have to say I have a some different opinions from yours respectively. (A little background: I am a traditional and digital artist that has always been a early adopter of VR as an art creation tool). Apps I have tried with the Stylus: Gravity Sketch, Painting VR, Vermillion, Adobe Modeler and Gesture VR. First of all compared to options we've had in the past this stylus is amazing!!! It tracks very well (maybe slightly rougher than a controller but it's probably harder to track the tiny little constellation tracking lights. It's very good. The weight is great! Plenty light for extended use. The Battery life of 7hrs w/out haptics and 3hrs with haptics is MORE than reasonable at this size, price and weight. No one realistically is going to be doing 3hr straight sessions in VR that often. It's much much easier with quest 2 or 3 resolution displays than it was with the CV-1 for instance. As to the quality of implementation in software that is completely down to the individual developers. Vermillion, Gravity Sketch and to a lesser extent Gesture VR are amazing and well implemented. Gravity Sketch specifically has unique tool behavior that is tailor for the stylus. Creating shapes in standalone VR has never been this good! Vermillion is brilliant! Painting VR is (as you show in your video) and absolute disaster right now. I had thought they updated the software for it but apparently I was wrong. I hope they tailor software for this stylus as well.
Great to hear feedback from an artist who‘s actually using this extensively! I think your views carry more weight than mine here especially about the battery life, so thank you for the insight. Agreed regarding the apps. Hopefully there’s decent demand for this to encourage devs to support it. I know of at least one non-art (but productivity) app called Fluid that’s seemingly incorporating the stylus into their app
Thanks for your review. . Actual working artist reviews for this pen are very hard to find right now! Paint VR needs to get their shit together! I've heard that the pen is not that useful for VR sculpting. . more useful in drawing and painting ..
Hopefully those issues are just due to these being so new and developers probably not having much incentive to implement them. Now that they're officially out, hopefully they get more attention and things change :) Also really good timing as Meta announced plans to soon give developers camera access which would make it possible for apps to track canvases, paintings, sketchbooks etc much more easily! Can't wait for the future of this device, I really want one but I'll wait and see what happens and what developers do with it. Great video like always!
thanks so much Jey! and agreed, it's almost like a niche of a niche right now so I'm not surprised that some apps have not implemented this yet. i think a lot of Quest users are not even aware that this stylus exists, so hopefully the app support also grows with the demand
Great job on this one, you answered all my questions and saved me some time. I’m a little disappointed that we can only pair one of these. I might still pick one up to play with in WebXR. If anything, it could be an interesting input mechanism for my data visualization work.
The dock, while not required sure is convenient. You know it will always be charged and it has a place to live. Tracking is quite good unless you grab the stylus in a way that blocks too many of the markers on the pen that your headset picks up on.
After this video was posted, Meta gifted a stylus with the dock. It’s not something I would’ve paid extra for but I definitely appreciate having the dock now
The implication of this in games would be pretty cool, imagine playing a game and wanting to write a note to someone instead of typing one so you pull out your pen and it tracks the writing in the game.
What you bought sir was an experience novelty item Like when I was a kid and there were thousands of pointless accessories for the NES that either didn't work right or were so expensive no one can buy them and it wouldn't have mattered because they didn't work right anyways. Good review though man.
planning to try gravity sketch in more detail soon! there is a bit of gravity sketch in this video but only a short clip to show that the physical stylus and the digital overlay were aligned
Thank you for the excellent preview. As a professional designer, it would be interesting to try the pen with one of the most professional drawing software I've used on the Meta Quest 3 headset. The app is called Gesture VR and allows you to draw in a virtual studio or in mixed reality, copying live statues. Using the pad is not very comfortable, but I think with that pen the experience could be fantastic!
Hi, I think the reason youre getting traces of the ink in the air when writing on a surface is that youre gently pressing the pressure sensitive button on the pen with your thumb
Thank you for sharing this. When the stylus costs a good fraction of the headset's cost, you have to wonder. Your real life illustration makes me think the stylus will feel very familiar to someone used to the Apple Pencil, more familiar than having to deal with the controllers for many tasks, not just writing and drawing. Did you use the included stylus tips for your Pro?
I think the battery duration might not be a problem as recharging is super fast. If you do a toilet break and get something to drink, it might already be charged. That process is especially convenient when you have the stand. Pluging in to a usb c cable might not, but than you got the cheaper version. Glad to see that pairing is that easy now. I had it before the release and there you would have to do some tricks to make it happen. So they fixed that.
Great Review! Appreciate you! I just want this to be able to draw in the air, to mindmap out my thoughts as i watch a video to learn things, so it looks like it works great for this purpose.
Thanks so much for watching! Oh yeah, at least for drawing in the air, this stylus is great! The controllers can do everything it does but the stylus is way lighter and is more comfortable in your hand
Even if it worked well I struggle to see who this is even for Stylus for a tablet, I get it. It mimics the paper to pencil feeling for people who like that - in fact, I started drawing as a hobby recently, and a stylus on a tablet is the way that feels most comfortable for me. I personally hate taking handwritten notes, but fair's fair, when I tried that out, it's just as good on a tablet as on a piece of paper. But who's gonna whip out their VR headset to take notes on in the first place? They're harder to pack than a tablet, there's more friction between when it's in your bag and when it's ready to use, it's impossible to share what you're seeing with someone else, and there's no tactility. The pen might make it less abysmal of an experience, but that still sounds abysmal. Or for an artist, you need to physically have a canvas there for it to feel right (as you demonstrated), at which point it's not saving you any physical space, at which point why even bother using virtual space for your drawing? And for that matter, I feel like your finger with hand tracking would make a better approximation of a paintbrush than a stylus would. There must be a market for it or they wouldn't make it, but I am genuinely baffled by who that market would be.
This could be huge news if Meta goes the right direction with this-- imagine a market of third-party Quest controllers with full support! Also, now that the Quest can support three tracked devices at a time, I wonder if it could be hacked to act as a truly standalone-supported hip tracker.
First of all, you hip is in a worse position, the camera probably wouldn’t really track it most of the time, the second thing is as you can see, the headset only handle 2 at the time, it just switched quickly
Although I personally don't have any use for a stylus (I'm a terrible artist 😂), I appreciate you bringing things like this to everyone's attention. That fake hand in the early segment was off putting, but I'm glad to see that other apps have their own configurations without it.
thanks Mike! and yeah totally get it, it was fun for me to doodle but I won’t be creating anything good anytime soon (if ever) 😂. yeah I’m hoping more apps are optimized for the stylus soon, but honestly, this is kind of a niche of a niche so it may also not be high up on the devs’ to-do list
I know i should be saving for the vive focus vision but apart of me has to buy this just to write in vrchat to fool everyone in to thinking im a god ar writing using my controllers

I wish they would bring Shapr3D to the quest, a pen driven Parasolid CAD app availed on iPad and the vision pro. This looks like a good fit if they can iron out the jank.
This would be an amazing tool for an author, if we had a vr app giving you a writer's retreat with post it notes and virtual paper to write on. One day!

I would like to know how this pen compares to your quest pro controllers paired with the quest 3 with the stylus bits that come with the quest pro controllers attached to the quest pro controllers. Because selling your quest plus controllers and buying pro controllers might be justifiable and almost equivalent to buying this pen.
I believe that the best use case for this controller in entertainment is Harry Potter-like games with magic wand) I think that you'll have much more immersion than if you use a regular controller.

@@Superkuzia15 Logitech could not have made it without working closely with meta to get the OS support and make the pen work overall. No one can make a controller or tracked device for quest without meta involvement.
@@diebygaming8015Didn't they sort of make their os open source earlier? That would've made it a lot easier to develop custom controllers without meta's help
@@Superkuzia15 No, no one can make a tracked device for meta quest, except meta. there is no mixed reality video capture support.. (this is why there have never been true AR apps on quest) (this is nothing new, it has always been meta's decision going back to oculus days)
@@diebygaming8015but still, meta didn't directly design the stylus itself, nor its inner workings, they just helped Logitech out with making the actual thing work
I just got it. It needs a rolling nib cause it works but if your pressing on a surface the friction can change gliding over the surface making it studer hit. I hope it’s popular enough for all those supported softwares follow up and listen to user feedback.
the weight alone is a big relief compared to using a controller. I have joint issues (unfortunately) so this would really help if i were trying to write or sketch a lot in VR/MR
A lot of professionals use Quest Pro. Yes its discontinued but so is Quest 2. To be honest that handwriting test had put me off. If it cant even mimic your writing then professional painters will notice it even more
agreed regarding the 2, I didn't think of it at the time. the writing was better once i adjusted the pressure setting and used a different surface (the door), but yeah im not sure if it would be good enough for professionals. Do you do art in VR?
This sounds bad but is it just me who's noticed anything meta creates which is black will end up failing 😭 quest 1 became outdated so quickly and a similar thing happened to the pro I'm afraid the same will happen with this pen
3 hours battery life with haptics is pretty disappointing, if its one thing I spend hours in within VR than its creative work. Not a deal breaker (I have mine on the way), but still pretty disappointing.
I don't see the point. What would it actually be useful for? The ONLY use-case I can think of is if you wanted to use physical platforms of some kind, but meh. The point of doing anything in VR is the 3d aspect and a stylus is a slightly more natural hand position, AT BEST.
A regular controller can do everything this stylus does, so for casual users like myself (and I guess most people) it may not be a must-have. But I think it could be a great comfort tool for those who work extensively in art & design in VR. The weight alone (4x lighter) would probably be a huge relief for them.

thanks for watching!
What whoud happen if u play Gorrila Tag?
They should fix the existing Q3 controllers before making new ones. The controllers still dont reliably wake from sleep when using virtual desktop or other apps that cause you to set them down for a while
The pen was made by Logitech though, with meta having basically no involvement other than the pairing screen (at least, that's what I think)
@@diebygaming8015but still, meta didn't directly design the stylus itself, nor its inner workings, they just helped Logitech out with making the actual thing work
can you use them as controllers like if you want to draw in vrchat?
I'd like to know that too. . specially the life drawing VR chat room.
Have you tried it with Vermillion?
not yet, but I just heard that the stylus should work well with Vermillion so I'm hoping to try it soon
is it possible to play gorilla tag with the pen?
Would be cool/helpful to see someone trace a real world object that isn’t flat.
I just got it. It needs a rolling nib cause it works but if your pressing on a surface the friction can change gliding over the surface making it studer hit. I hope it’s popular enough for all those supported softwares follow up and listen to user feedback.
@@directeeccks ahhh a roller! that makes sense.
9:13 so why the quest 2?
you know what... you are right 🤔. I guess the reason has more to do with the Pro's controllers being self-tracked?
Cool!
I just need this, hopefully can save me form wrist ache
the weight alone is a big relief compared to using a controller. I have joint issues (unfortunately) so this would really help if i were trying to write or sketch a lot in VR/MR
quite fun
I imagine the standard controllers could do everything this stylus can
that's correct. i think the stylus is really more of a comfort tool compared to the Touch Plus controllers
@@rzivalNot really, I own Vermillon but I'm just a casual user 😆But for some types of art like pencil drawing you surely need a millimeter precision
is it compatible with quest 2?
I haven’t tried it myself but it should be!
And why can’t anyone do this for full body tracking?😒
can you play gorilla tag with the stylus?
Paint VR seriously needs to optimize for this pen. . what you experienced was useless!
Someone play beat saber with 2 of these
Wait, but if you just take notes in cursive, lel?
😆
Why are u complaining that you can't use the pen with the quest pro it douse kit say anything about it
complain?
the background music ☠
haha sorry! is it the song choice, the looping, or maybe the mixing? Trying to get better so thank you for the feedback
1 Day, Lol!
Gorilla tag 😊😊😊😊😊
you're the second person to ask! i just might...
Who else sees that its clearly overpriced
Their previous one costed around 600 , that was overpriced, this is about the same price as an Apple Pencil.
@@Scatty666 firstly 600,god damn
Secondly witch Apple Pencil
@@Scatterdbones Which witch? I am just saying that the apple pencil is around the same price and it is a pretty essential piece of equipment if you are an artist, just like a drawing tablet with your computer
@@Scatty666 oh alright
The painting app is trash compared to vermilion.
What if u use them to play gtag lol
hahah this is the third request I've gotten for gtag
thank you - I find this useless to me. You kinda save me 100ish $ like you I was curious.
you're welcome! thanks for watching
Your a lefty because I am
hello fellow lefty
@@rzival hello
It auto corrected to your instead of are
Just use your right hand …
I think it’s called being left handed….
Ou. I was sure that he just tries to do it this way because he’s holding the camera in the right hand. So that means he ate his twin in the womb, right?

Had to stop watching - that music loop was driving me nuts!
ah sorry! Definitely need to get better at that. Thanks for the feedback 🙏🏼
This is the most ussless monney sucking crap ever released 😂😂😂😂

This is going to flop.
