- Today I buy all of the fixtures for the LEGO Studio! Man... that wasn't cheap... spending $3000 at Ikea is a tough pill to swallow... but I may as well do things right! Now I have all of the shelving for the display rooms and more cabinets for the workspace! We're talking over 20 shelves LOL! Now the fun begins... IKEA furniture assemble!

Here's an idea for the windows. Block maybe 3/4 of the window and create a sort of transom at the top to let light come in. That way the lower part is blocking UV from the parts drawers and that 1/4 at the top will let some light enter the studio.
I was just about to suggest this and read this comment! I think that is the best of both options!
If you keep What you have now and add curtains you Can protect The Lego when your not there and still get light in when you are there
Take a looks Adam Savage’s Tested, He has a video on putting 5 Billy book cases together and he takes the assembly line mentality to make it as easy as possible. He also adds lights to them...

Have a window tinter put some solar film to cut out the UV light then put back your current window shade and you should be good to go. When drilling your holes have someone hold the vacumn next to the drilled hole, that will keep it clean. Looks good excited to see it all come together.
I do the baggie method, masking tape the baggie to the wall to catch the mess.
Great Idea! I think the Tint would look the best.

Good call on using that space for the vehicles, the short height allows for lots of them in a small area and the colour brightens the space up - I like it

Jordan! Just use UV blocking window film…its pretty simple. That way you can keep the light look out and see outside and know the UV won’t be an issue

Yup glass does an ok job stopping a bit of UV light in of itself. So the stuff in the window is probably doing a good enough job imo.
Here’s an idea for the parts for sun damage. I like your choice of keeping natural light so maybe buy the poster boards that are foam from dollarama. Hot glue them to the back of your parts bins for an easy assurance that at least the parts won’t degrade.
For peace of mind on the UV light issue, you could test it and see if and how much UV light is coming in through the windows. Either buy a uv light meter or maybe those uv light indicator cards that change color with uv light. Put one inside in the back of a Lego drawer and attach one to the back of one of the Lego box that is on top of the parts drawers. Check on it at different times of the day and in the summer months when uv light is at its strongest. No need to change anything if UV light isn't even coming in.
The studio will look super nice with all matching shelves! Definitely a great idea!
you can get UV film for the windows so you can have max light without ruining the legos, then you can have some sort of window covering in case of glare or need for privacy.
you can find it at home depot etc. they also have window cling that has various blockings if you want total privacy w out curtains etc. bought the UV stuff and "rice paper" types before.
personally I would have put the parts on an adjacent wall instead of against the windows, desks near the windows for a view (even if the view is shitty).

I hope to see a FULL collection tour once everything is put up on shelves downstairs. I’m about to move and need ideas for my new Lego room/office space.
I would recommend getting 2x6's instead of 2x4's. Most of these boards will be spruce or SPF material and they will warp if not properly dried. Ideally you would want to have them in a dry building for a year, but that won't be possible in your situation. Jointing the edge will help, but it won't stop them from warping. 2x6's would have less of a chance of warping from the drying process. Also, don't get any boards with the pith still in the board as they will warp the most.
FYI, 3M makes clear and tinted UV blocking window film. Blocks 99% of UV light. So you could put that on the glass directly, then hang whichever white curtains/shades you'd like so that it looks good.
not gonna lie, the vehicles were quite hidden away before, seeing them all together now is both mind blowing and also awe filling, if the all displays carry on with success like this one itll be absolutely amazing
The Speed Champions are a perfect addition to the shelves! Don't forget to move 'em back into the Mansion's Garage when the island is built :P
I used those bolts on Pax units in the my Lego room and my Ikea kitchen cabinets, they work great.

Hi Jordan. Hunter Douglas does make corrugated black out blinds with a white exterior front and back. They do a fantastic job of blocking all light and can be raised and lowered. They are fully custom height and width, and are available through a custom blinds shop. A little pricey, but they would do what you need. They will also custom install them for you. Hope this helps. The speed champion sets look awesome in your desk area. Loving how this is all coming together. If you're open to moving the big yellow lego heads that are under your desk. They could look cool on each corner of the upper area so you could see them from below.
Honestly you could just buy poster board and tape it to the back of those plastic drawers to block the light from entering those units. That way you can still have some light coming in for your mental health! Whatever you decide in the end will be best! Love the channel
An alternate approach to the UV concerns could be to just put some kind of covering on the back of the bins that hold the parts. This way, the parts would be protected but the windows would still let natural light into the space. Whatever you decide to do, the studio looks really great and it’s exciting to see it coming together!
I was thinking of something like this. Maybe some leftover white boxes flattened and placed on the bottom part of the windows where it won’t be visible?
Wondering if you will build a highway in your new city. It would be a cool way to display vehicles and scenes. Also it will be a nice way to connect your areas
What about putting the big heads at the beginning of the staircase? Like columns
Maybe use some white posterboard and tape it (or any other attachment solution you might have) to the back of the plastic bins to block any light hitting the lego inside them. You won't stop the light from coming in the room, but you will stop it from directly hitting the lego in your bins, and you won't see the poster board from the front at all. You could essentially do the same for the boxes displayed on top (use white tack instead of tape maybe) but at least that could solve most of the issue.

The PAX units have those joining screws included, but it looks like they hooked you up for the Billys. Nice haul.

For the window light, could u put melamine only up to the part drawers? And then still allow light to come in above them?
Its just back breaking to do it all by yourself!

They do so much support too that people always forget, including life long replacements or additions for their existing hardware. For example when you dismantle it between property moves they will also replace the entire fixings bags so its all new and secure when set back up, they also buy back actual unwanted ikea furniture now.. so if you left with a used besta etc you could trade it in for credit
For saw dust and screwing through the bookcases. Get a post it note, fold it at least in half, hotdog style, not hamburger. I find it works better if you fold it in thirds to create a channel. Then put it under where you are using the drill utilizing the top/sticky part. It’ll catch a good amount of the saw dust. Or just a little hand held vacuum next to where you are using the drill. Won’t have to move all the Lego.
You might be able to do four triple ones in that room. It is a nice size room. The upstairs is looking good. Good job

As a reptile keeper I can confirm windows blocked UV rays, but maybe others rays that come through the windows may damage/fade Lego?
I like IKEA furnitures, and the LEGO Studio shows that the furnitures are very good for display🤩🤩🤩

Maybe I’m odd, but I’d love to be there putting all those units together. IKEA furniture doesn’t bother me. I’d have my drill with an extra battery and my hex/allen head bit and away I’d go. 😀 Love how it’s all coming along!
Suggestion: get the uv laminate. But just apply it to the back of those boards. It’ll be a ton easier than applying them to windows.
Whenever i hear Billy Bookcase, i imagine a garbage pail kids character! Lol… great work by the way!
What you could do is put a black curtain on the backside to protect the plastic storage packs.

Great video! You are working so hard -wowza!! If you are thinking about UV protection on the windows, they sell transparent window cling that protects against UV and Infrared. $30 a roll last I priced it here in the US. We use it to protect upholstery for our classic cars. 😉👍
I used drywall screws to connect my billy cabinets together. Drill one screw in one direction and a second in the other direction top and bottom. Stick a small white sticker and you can’t see them.
Yes, that is exactly what I did as well, when I got my Alex cabinets. I unpacked them, sorted the pieces, and then started building. I did batch building; first all drawers, then the bodies of the cabinets. Speeds things up vastly when you don't have to comb through packaging and search for the pieces!! BTW, your studio looks better and better. I am just jealous!!! You deserve this!!
(pro track saw tip ) You should get a sheet of ( ridged foam insulation) . If you put the foam down under the melamine while you cut it with the track saw, it supports it and leaves a cleaner cut and is way easier to break down sheets.

Please, hear me out. I love the shelves too but for your consideration. Shift them over, or even leave a gap in the middle where your computer would sit. That plug is no problem, just cut a hole in one of the billys. I think people balk at it because it's just off center. It truly has so much potiential and I think you are close to something great, it just all needs to adjust to the right. The wall stuff could then go in the spacing between shelves behind and above the monitor and it'll all be centered. I promised it'll go from a 8/10 to a 10/10 instantly. Please Bricksie, please!

About UV on your spare parts ... How about simply adding something fixed directly behind your storages units? This way you can keep natural light coming from your windows without affecting your storage.
Im so looking forward to see all the shelves filled with lego and the lego city on tables. Wall painting was such a good idea.
NB sandgreen 1x2x3 window frames in legoshop pick a brick. I noticed your Brick bank extra floor haven't got them.
I know I'm probably too late for this, but I've been catching up on like 40 videos the past two days. To attached the shelfs together you want 1 1/4 GRK Cabinet screws. They make them with white flat heads for things exactly like this. It's how I have all of my billys attached.
To further clarify, I just put them right through the shelf pin holes and they are absolutely perfect.
I would love to see your mideval display or something similar in the middle of the shelving room. It would also open up some space in the city.

Although it’s a lot of money Jordan it’s always best to get what you want from the start it will all look amazing when you finish building

Never knew they had connecting hardware. I've literally just put screws through the walls to connect IKEA shelves in the past :D good to know!
I think the car display behind the desks fits the space perfectly!
If you’re worried about uv light you could line just the back of your drawer units with some black or white foam board. Cheap at the dollar store and you could just tape it on

I've joined all my billy's with similar hardware. You're going to want to put another join either side of the shelf you can't move or there will be a visible gap between the centre of the two joined units.

Hey, wild idea. Have you ever thought about getting a utility cart? Might be helpful. You definitely could have used one before, but it’s not too late now.
UV film on the inside or outside along with what you have would work for your windows. 😀

If Mrs. Bricksie is available to hold a vacuum attachment, while you are drilling, it should minimize the sawdust mess.
If you put aluminum foil over your coroplast and then put white shades to look better (or a sheet of aluminum foil between two sheets of coroplast or a sheet of aluminum foil behind the single sheet of coroplast) then it should block all the light.
Tldr, aluminum foil blocks light really well. Do with that what you will.
The black binds things might add a good contrast to the studio tho, but if you not wanting that kind of look it’s understandable
Just hold a vacuum nozzle under what you’re drilling and that should take care of any dust
remember the power drill to put the shelves together ;)

When you see -all- of that on the floor you must be like "how did I fit all of this down there?"
Something for the windows. They make UV resistant films you can just stick on windows. Between that and what you have you'd be pretty well protected and still get natural light in. Best of both worlds and relatively easy.
You could put the thin malumine only where the light hits the parts directly and let a gap for letting light enter on the top, and don't display sets on top of the parts, you have a lot of space to display them hahaha

Why don’t you add black cardboard to the back of the lego parts drawers facing the windows? That way it doesn’t really affect the look but keeps lego safe? I love the way it’s turning out and I respect your choice either way! Just a suggestion

Tint would probably be the best of both worlds
For your windows covering, put MDF that you paint the same color of your room, easier and sturdier then drywall.
Where you are going to drill the holes on the cabinet you cam put a piece of double stick tape under where you erill and it catches the saw dust
For the widows you can get (in the uk) solar window film which blocks the UV. A lot of offices use it can get it tinted or baically clear. Then you could put the correx (what we call it) back over the top.
However I would think with the glass and the plastic there won't be a lot of uv coming through.
i think you should add 2 more billies (or 3 if they would fit) to the right of your computer...an entire wall of billies with consistant shelf heights and centering your computer desk would look nice...I'm all about symmetry

I don't normally read the comments and I don't normally comment, but I have to say I have really enjoyed watching this whole process. One thing I wanted to ask was if you have considered putting a dumb waiter on the right side of the stairs so you can easily get things up and down?
The storage boxes in front of windows might get some uv damage, so why not put boards on the back of the storage boxes. It will protect the lego and also let light in.
