    You consider getting the inside of the frame treated? I’m pretty sure radiator repair shop can do it. Those old frames have to be rusting from the inside. It’s an eye opener when you start digging into what it costs to properly restore these bikes to just rideable condition. Appreciate you sharing

      Hey Vinny, thanks for watching and subscribing. That’s actually something I hadn’t even thought about or considered. Thinking about it now, I’m not sure it’s a necessary expense, especially as there was minimal rust anywhere on the bike to begin with, even the inside of the gas tank was fairly clean. Have you found anyone else treating the inside of frames? I’m really interested now to know if that is a common thing.

      @@JMKGarage I know a couple of old heads that have really expensive Harleys . They spared no expense when it comes to restoration. These Hondas are becoming more of an investment as time goes by. Doing a little extra might increase the chances of realizing your investment and closing a sale. I think keeping a spreadsheet is a good idea 👍🏻! Helps people understand what went into making it look authentic

      More of a concern on the CT70 frames. The tube frames on the Z50s are way thicker.

    • @JMKGarage
      @JMKGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly my thought. The CT70’s are thin stamped sheet metal, compared to the Z50 which has a pretty thick wall tubing.

      Yeah when I do the big bikes I take the tank to the radiator shop and have them boiled out. Then paint . My zinc guy said he’s going to have a process to do the inside soon. I don’t like those coatings that are available , they come off after a while.

      Thank you for watching! Definitely not an exciting video, but shares the cost to restore one of these bikes, which I wish I knew before I started the build.

    I paid $284 and some odd cents back then for my brand new one. Same year and color! Loved it and would kind of like another one but would never pay that kind of money for one. I got a 2022 instead. LOL! Whole different style but it goes great!

      Knowing the increased value of these, I bet you wish you still had your oldy. What size did you go with for the new one? Another 50?

    • @popup1959
      @popup1959 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      LOL! Yes, but I would keep it! Another 50. I've got a few other small bikes so the younger ones can ride but I find myself fooling around on them more than them!

      I got a few other smaller bikes that I need to get running to chase around the kids on… now that my ‘69 z50 is done I don’t want to take it out in the mud anymore lol.

      LOL! I wouldn't either.

    Does your bike have a title? Does the lack of a title detract much from the value?

    • @JMKGarage
      @JMKGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good point! It didn’t come with a title, however obtaining one here in Ontario Canada is very easy, at least if you have a good relationship with the Service Ontario (DMV) office. Many off-road bikes never get registered here, so simple process of having an affidavit notarized ($20) and you can have a title. I always do this so that I have something to tie the bike to my name, and make easier to sell if I ever decide to.

    • @johne5758
      @johne5758 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Z50k2 that I acquired has no title. Unfortunately, titles for derelict vehicles are not so easy to obtain here in Ohio, USA. I am considering how much I can spend on the restoration and not exceed it's value. Thank you for your video and your reply.

      @@johne5758 wishing you luck with the resto man! The nice thing is that these bikes continue to appreciate in value, so even if you do overspend a little, it should eventually be worth whatever you put into it.

    Just curious what your chrome work cost for the exhaust?

    • @JMKGarage
      @JMKGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually got away without having anything re-chromed. I replaced the header piece and tail pipe with new aftermarket parts (listed in the video)… the chrome on them is very nice. The muffler however is still the original Honda muffler, with original chrome. It’s not perfect, but you really have to get up close to see the pitting and a tiny area where the chrome is lifting. I’d like to have it re-chromed some day, but I’m sure it will be a few hundred to have done.

    • @TheCbxmaster

      I had three z50 mufflers chromed and it was $300 that was over priced.

      Thanks! Actually, in my earlier videos on this built I showed this being done. It was my first time, so the finish wasn’t turning out as nice as I would have liked. Did that for the bolts that I reused, but most bolts were replaced with OEM Honda bolts as many of the originals were missing or stripped and not useable unfortunately.

      @@JMKGarage I’m in the same boat, I picked up one a couple months ago from the original owner silver and red only missing the muffler guard and has a torn seat for $1200 going to try and reuse everything I only changed seat.

      @@TheCbxmaster you got yourself an awesome deal there! It’s all the small things that really add up when restoring these bikes. As long as you aren’t missing too much, that’s a good start.
