Hi Mark A motorcycle is a thing that gets you from point A to point B. The truth about Lifan which in my opinion are the best of the Chinese engines being put into the Mini Trails. I have installed a quite a few and plug and play, good service The lifan will get you there faster than a stock CT-Z50-CT70 there extremely reliable if maint is kept up I have proved this. But sadly if you restore you Honda back to OEM standards, & then use an aftermarket engine your value drops quite a bit in these days..Resto Mods are cool can go very fast, same thing as just a lifan. Cost wise if you have no original motor. I have told people to keep the bike going with a Lifan Etc. going, but be on the hunt for a date coded Honda motor and then get experienced in rebuilding your self or job it out which can be costly from $1500-$2500 with ship costs both ways . As well as time to have it returned, some I have heard up to a year.Either way, choice of color, engine choice. These bikes are fun to ride & always get a lot of attention. Here in Idaho I Restore-Repair Mini Trails. I have been stopped by the Coeur d' Alene Police-Kootenai County Sheriffs Deputys as well as The Idaho State Police. On testing a bike after a build or one of my collection bikes. I am only stopped to have them praise the bikes, and to say how cool they are. Some of us will never grow up.

I've got an all original 78 black with tan/red stripes. It's all there and I'm nice shape. The engine is locked up I'm trying to decide whether to keep it stock and rebuild the engine or put in a 125.. any thoughts? Do you know someone who could rebuild the stock engine or do you do that? Any info would be great. Thanks

Hi There I have a couple of 78 CT70 bikes originally one had a Lifan 125 good engines. I have installed several over the years for friends and a couple bikes I had. But no more If you have an existing original engine rebuild it. The cost to rebuild, as to go to a Chinese engine . The return on investment for an original number matching bike will bring more money, more interested buyers and you will get alot more money. Today even if you have the bike brought back to original, then go to a Chinese motor most people will start looking elsewhere for an original. I still have about 30+ all original Honda Motorcycles with about 8 Z50 & CT70 motors rebuilt for future bikes. I can rebuild your engine. Call around it is not cheap & conccider turn around time on engine. We always state 90 days or less. In the long run you will appreciate the extra cost for rebuild over a swap clone engine. Hope this helps Rick@@scarab9762

Mark what a great presentation of the options available, from the purist who wants numbers matching, to resto mods. to the starter entry level clone. I purchased 30 bikes in one day from a collector hoarder. of the collection 20 had no motor just rollers. So over the years I would turn the bike back to Orig Honda design and hardware, to try and match what it looked like from the factory. I sold most over the years. But have 4 KO models with Lifans in them. I am now a purist and all orig motors are rebuilt and the bikes look factory when done. Mostly what I find people want. The 4 I have lifans in them I have pulled and gone back to Original dated Honda engines. I am now a purist about rebuilds, but have sold quite a few to guys who resto mod them, big bore kits, powder coated wheels super exhaust systems. Its what the buyer wants his to perform to. Now quickly on the Clones. I had almost purchased 15 from at least 8 different manufactures- including the first Jing Cheng. Everyone I have sold I educate the buyer to keep serviced, winter storage, and in most cases change the plastics on them. But from an entry bike these are perfect for the person who can not afford, an original. These will last years. I have a Lifan clone I bought in 09-10. on the back of our motorhome. We stopped in New Mexico at a wallmart to shop, and within 25 minutes we lost a beautiful 70 KO Rubey Red to thieves. Great video. you touched on all good sections.

What is it about the Lifan engines that you don't really like that much compared to the original? Not as reliable, tricky to tune or ???

I have seen 88cc big bore kits for the CT70. My oem 1970 is running fine, but just wondering if the 88cc bigger bore is worth the cost/trouble?

Hi Donald! We recommend getting one from a reputable seller if you want to go that route. However to see real power gains we recommend the new engines! We are seeing better reliability and performance than even the original engines!
