Just writing this list here so that people can reference it.
The video recommends companion planting , as well as the following specific kinds of veggies. The companion planting in this case, seems to refer to leafy crops and root crops growing together.
Starting at around @6:22, the video suggests that the following kinds of veggies could be planted in the keyhole garden
Root crops: carrots, beets, radish, turnips, garlic, onion
Leafy crops: spinach, swiss chard, mustard greens, herbs
Not recommended are: cabbage, corn, tomatoes, eggplant, potatoes
I think this video is a great resource to show the stark difference between the surrounding landscape and the possibility of a productive keyhole garden area.

I recommend this video for inhabitants who are living in the horn of Africa. They should implement this kind of projects during limited rain period at drought prone area's. Thanks to CRS , we have applied what we learned from this video. However, we use walls of plastic bottles instead of Stones.
Plastic bag and its impact are visible during rainy season in drainage canals especially in south Ethiopia. Clogging of water ways is rampant in project area. To mitigate this problem our initiative through FACE -የቤተሰብ ግብርና project, used a wall of plastic bottles for the construction of African key whole garden. This will save the resource used to construct raised bed garden in line with reusing plastic bottles for planting wall construction, restoring biodiversity and compost making and grey water and waste water management purposes in a nut shell.
Thank you Catholic Relief Services for this life changing documentary God bless you all!

I think it's not saying, don't plant them together. It's saying, don't plant them at all.
Based on the video, we can see the gardens have a good success rate for the recommended veggies. My thought is that the not-recommended plants, may either need too much resources for the return that they give, need too much water (very likely), or may get too big for the space for the return that they give. For example, these homes shown here, may not have lines of electricity and water going into each home where it's easy to live in that kind of comfort and extend it out to the garden. Even natural rainfall may be limited in certain times of the year.
So having said that, or thought that, it could mean that if you're in a region where you have plenty of resources and still want to build a keyhole garden design because you like the concept, then I think it's fine to grow those other plants in your keyhole garden. Eg, if you can already grow tomatoes and eggplants in your garden or raised bed, there shouldn't be a reason why you can't do it in a keyhole garden bed.
