The Nanjing case in the Tokyo trial began with the testimony of American missionaries Bates and Maggie. Bates stood on the witness stand on July 29, 1945. On this day, Bates testified about the killing, rape and looting by Japanese soldiers all day long. "For several days after the Japanese army entered the castle, the corpse of a civilian who was shot and killed was lying on the street near my house." In the afternoon of August 15, Maggie stood on the witness stand, followed by the witness stand the next morning. Maggie also testified endlessly about the killing, rape and looting of the Japanese army. "The acts of killing by the Japanese army were carried out everywhere. After a while, there were Chinese carcasses lying everywhere in the city of Nanjing." These testimonies were made one after another, and in no time, a tremendous image of the Nanjing incident was created. However, by the end of Maggie's testimony, Brooks' defense lawyer is interrogating. "Then how many times have you seen the act of the act of illegal or murder that you just talked about?" Then Maggie answered. "I witnessed only a few incidents by myself." In addition, lawyer Brooks interrogated him. "How many times did you experience an incident where you were thought to be a robbery, or that you yourself were robbed?" Maggie answered. "I actually remember that I saw you stealing the 'Ice Box' as I said earlier." Most of the testimonies that there were killings and looting were fictitious events or hearsay.
Japan needs to own up to the pure evil if committed without so much of a single drop of remorse The world knows what they did and they will never forgive them.

@GREATER-Saadi True but the thing is they try to hide and cover up their past. Or try to gaslight into making others believe that this is just propaganda. At least many countries that did do war crimes admitted to it and apologised

No bro, if u have seen holocaust pictures you’d disagree, heads caved in, no eyes and skin and bones all in mass graves, dumped like trash. The toulle massacre I believe, 500 civilians give or take rounded up, women, children and men all shot by the second ss division which is just one of their crimes. The eastern front is way worse
The most horrible thing I’ve ever seen is a famous old documentary showing the interview of some Japanese veteran who finally admitted their crimes. Some of these monsters literally SMILED and LAUGHED while recalling and describing their horrible torture methods on civilians, which included g. impalement, mutilation and much worse things I’m not going to describe (even cannibalism). Their eyes had a hollow light that seemed pure evil. But even worse, these monsters are still FREE and with a perfectly clean criminal record! Hiroshima and Nagasaki literally made Japan look like the victim, while in reality it did much, much worse than the worst medieval tyrants and potentially killed more than Hitler or Stalin (arguable).

I'm Japanese, but Japanese textbooks only have two pages about World War II. It only gives a rough explanation of the course of the war, and does not mention the atrocities committed by the Japanese military during the Sino-Japanese War and the annexation of Korea. For the first time since I grew up, I also learned that the Japanese army had committed a crime. I was very shocked and thought that all Japanese people should know this, reflect on it, and never make the same mistake again.
back in the medieval days they were so honorable that if their opponent were to get captured they will challenge them to a duel and whoever wins leaves.
Saw a video about a Korean woman who shared her experience being a 'comfort woman' during the war. She was only 14 if I'm not mistaken. She is now very old and wishes nothing from the Japanese except a sincere apology
@@houseofcards8433u r right and ur anger is absolutely valid. In my eyes Japan is one f-ed up country still now with all the brutal and disturbing cases happening to its young citizens. I don't know why Japan to me seems like a really bad and unsafe place to live it. One flip of time and sth bad can happen.
Had a japanese classmate who insisted that the japanese warcrimes were all made up. When I said my Grandma lived through it, she told me my Grandma lied to me. When I told her it could go both ways and maybe it was her family and teachers that lied, she went all sour and hissy about me being 'rude'.
If she’s from Japan then she was probably told that Japan didn’t do anything horrible. I go there myself for vacation and find it unsurprising that they don’t speak of the past. I could be wrong but I think Germany does the same thing where they don’t say much about their past.
@@thesenate4563In Germany they’re required to learn about the past and I think there are mandatory field trips to concentration camps and such. I could be wrong about the latter though.
There were good Japanese soldiers..a grandma who recently passed away once told us that the Japanese soldiers who came here in our place were only strict in teaching the people how to properly greet Japanese soldiers. Like, they have to stand up properly or line up with their hands on their side and clearly shout their greetings. They also have to learn Japanese songs and sing them when the Japanese soldiers gather.
@@katzhang2913As german myself, you are right. We always learns about the WW1/WW2 at schools and went to visit the camps too. I never met anyone who didnt learn about WW1/WW2 or visit the camps. It's one of most important lessons to teach at german schools.
You know you've messed up when German SS officers overseeing Japan are turning their noses up at the inhumane and evil actions being committed by their ally.
Hard to say the Japanese were being inhumane when comparing them to when the Nazis took incarcerated Jewish children away while their fathers were in slave labor, while their mothers watched helplessly just to send those children to the death camps and into the mounds of bodies to incinerate.
It gets WAY darker if you look into a Japanese unit called 731. On paper they where a water purification unit, but they where actually in charge of developing biological weapons for the war effort. It's crazy to think that at the time, Japan had the most developed Biological Weapons program in the world, and that most countries where decades behind what they had. General Shiro Ishi, the architect of it all, was given immunity from prosecution, and even land in the US.
Not a single victim survived Unit 731. At the end of the war, every prisoner in Unit 731 was summarily killed to cover up the project. It’s like if the Nazis successfully went through with their Final Solution in the concentration camps.
It's even worse that Japan never truly apologised and some Japanese even claim that the Chinese made this all up. Edit: To clarify, I do not expect the younger generous to feel guilty or apologise for something they didn't do. The main criticism in regards to the apology is toward the older generation. The criticism toward the Japan of today is strictly about the continuous erasure of history, worship of war criminals, and gaslighting toward the nations harmed. So even if Japan has "apologised" in any capacity, it can never be a"true" apology as long as the aforementioned actions are still carried. Also, I'm not anti-Japan and do not think Japanese people are "savages", as some of you may think in the comments. I'm part Japanese myself and I love Japan.
Because the empire is gone. The leaders of the past are dead and were dead. They offed themselves. Japan got rebuilt from the ground up. There was very little left from the past. Would be the same idea as the US apologizing for what the UK did.
For those who are not aware, the Japanese soldiers were so barbaric and without a shred of humanity. That even the Nazis of all people were disgusted by them. In the Nanjing Massacre, Nazi soldiers that were deployed there ended up turning against their Japanese allies. Because they couldn't tolerate the cruelty inflicted on the Chinese people. They helped civilians escape the city and even engaged in gunfire against the Japanese. One priest who was with the Nazis hid a bunch of young girls in his wine cellar and fought Japanese soldiers who barged into his church looking for them. Because of his actions, he saved dozens of Chinese girls from being r*ped to death. You know you've gone too far when even those committing actual genocide can't tolerate or condone your actions.
I'm half Japanese and half korean. Live near Seattle, Washington. I told my housemate how much people hate the Japanese still which he didn't really understand since it was 2019. When he visited Korea and his friends learned his housemate was Japanese, they were terrified. He had to tell them I was half korean too which eased them quite a bit.
In Korea, life for Japanese-Korean kids is a living hell. The school teachers are some of the main instigators. Koreans don't seem to have a problem with making little kids suffer for the actions of their great-grandfathers, 80 years ago. Japan has paid reparations to Korea four times, and all they do is demand more. Many Koreans have conveniently forgotten that lots of Korean men volunteered to serve in the Japanese army. They were even worse than the Japanese. In books about Japanese prison camps, Koreans are described as the worst guards, even crueler than the Japanese. Koreans also committed many massacres and r's of civilians when fighting in the Vietnam war. The point is, no one is innocent in war. There are no angels.
Crazy how even tho Germany apologized they still get absolutely no trust, and yet japan and the US who aren't even ashamed of what they've done get the worlds love

The japanese came to Kedah shot at my grandfather and other unarmed villagers, they ran into the jungles while some of his friends were shot in the back. He lived till 90, before he passed, he was still screaming in his dreams, the japanese are coming.
My great-grandfather ignored curfew and went out to sea with some friends to fish coz the family hadn’t eaten for days and was starving. Mind you, my grandfather and his younger siblings weren’t even born then. One day, one of the friends snitched on them and the Japanese searched his house for evidence. They took him back to the interrogation camp which had a reputation of only one out of ten make it out alive because that lucky one went mad from the interrogation. Despite the lack of solid evidence, my great-grandfather prepared to executed (because Japs and their anti-Chinese sentiments, am I right). Fortunately (or unfortunately), there was a mixup and my great-grandfather managed to escape the camp. He lived out the rest of his life and passed the story onto his children and grandchildren, the story of how all the rest of the family and us (me included) nearly ceased to exist because of the goddamn Japs.
This is a story passed down from my great grandmother (she was born in China but later immigrated). She grew up in a really small village and was really close with all her cousins because they were living in the same village. She was around 13 when Japan invaded her village and her entire family was captured and all women were raped (including the youngest cousin who was only 4/5 at that time). After raping them, the Japanese allowed the eldest cousin, which happened to be my great grandma, to choose who to get killed first (this includes her parents and other relatives). And for obvious reasons, she didn't end up choosing which resulted in all of them getting shot in front of her . She was kept alive by the Japanese and became one of their 'sex dolls' before she escaped. Till her death, she resented the Japanese (which honestly is understandable given her experience with them) and died with the belief and guilt that she directly caused her family's death by not choosing who to sacrifice. I don't hate Japanese, i just wish that they would own up to their mistake and at least apologize to their victims. That's honestly the least they can do.

honestly my history teacher who was teaching us about WWII about 8 years ago also did mention that Japan wasn't as innocent as you would think since they were the victims of bombing. Respect to her for loving her subject so much.
The bombings were justified. Any historian would tell you that. Only idiot hippies with no grasp on the reality of the situation would say otherwise. Japan had multiple soldiers stationed around asia that fought for decades after the war was over because they literally couldn't believe the newspapers and thought they were lying when they read "Japan Surrendered!" The Japanese were incredibly zealous about their empire and they were conditioned to perceive all people from other nations as less than human. After the Rape of Nanking and similar other horrific onslughts all across china, they had equal to if not worse war crimes than the NAZIs and unlike with the germans, the soldiers themselves perpetrated them, not simply the upper echelon of officers/leaders. They also had prisoner camps where they conducted horrific experiments in innocent people with diseases and surgeries just like the nazis. The fact is all the evidence points to the likelihood of Japan surrendering being incredibly low. They would have fought to their last man, and likely only increased the number of atrocities they commited on other nations. As many people as the bombs killed, they strategically saved ten fold more by ending the war years prior to what it would have otherwise gone on for.
What's annoying is Japan has not even properly apologized yet, they don't even teach these in their schools. But they are still so loved by the world...

Filipino here. My school used to be a dumping site for corpses back in the war. It was a ditch big enough to encompass a small village and about 16 feet deep. My great-grandma(rest in peace lola) said that Filipino civilians, soldiers, and even American soldiers were dragged and thrown into the ditch and were killed via firing squad. Grandma says she remembers she saw a mother getting dragged to be killed, with a child who was about two. Both were killed and thrown on the spot. It was horrendous. The only reason why Grandma's perception of the Japanese is better than most people of her time was because she was assisted by a Japanese soldier who didn't want to fight in the war. Despite his fellow soldiers following orders and killing civilians, he chose to secretly help grandma and her family. He gave her a katana to defend herself with. We don't know who that soldier was, but, we still have the katana to this day. If all the other soldiers acted like him, so much tragedy could've been avoided.

The Nanjing case in the Tokyo trial began with the testimony of American missionaries Bates and Maggie.
Bates stood on the witness stand on July 29, 1945. On this day, Bates testified about the killing, rape and looting by Japanese soldiers all day long.
"For several days after the Japanese army entered the castle, the corpse of a civilian who was shot and killed was lying on the street near my house."
In the afternoon of August 15, Maggie stood on the witness stand, followed by the witness stand the next morning. Maggie also testified endlessly about the killing, rape and looting of the Japanese army.
"The acts of killing by the Japanese army were carried out everywhere. After a while, there were Chinese carcasses lying everywhere in the city of Nanjing."
These testimonies were made one after another, and in no time, a tremendous image of the Nanjing incident was created.
However, by the end of Maggie's testimony, Brooks' defense lawyer is interrogating.
"Then how many times have you seen the act of the act of illegal or murder that you just talked about?"
Then Maggie answered.
"I witnessed only a few incidents by myself."
In addition, lawyer Brooks interrogated him.
"How many times did you experience an incident where you were thought to be a robbery, or that you yourself were robbed?"
Maggie answered.
"I actually remember that I saw you stealing the 'Ice Box' as I said earlier."
Most of the testimonies that there were killings and looting were fictitious events or hearsay.

It's same like UK ,, they never apologized for their actions
@erasedkarma have you been knocked on the head as a child?

I never thought Japan was innocent, they bombed hawaii.
