THE best Afghanistan War movie I have ever watched. I can't believe I missed this one when it first came out but here 9 years later I'm glad I caught up with it. Leaves some Hollywood movies to shame. Great story, great acting and the most authentic movie of its type. Hats off to the film crew and actors.
Bloody Canadians 🇨🇦 🇬🇪.
In the first scene at the village when they were been attacked there was several men with rocket launchers on their M14's and did not use them what bullshit.
Brilliant film. Couldnt have been more real. We are used to only seeing the Americans in war, but these Canadians were special. Thankyou for this. Am also an ex veteran, but i was lucky to see no real combat. Served on the Falklands and in the jungles of Belize. My ancestors served in the second world war. I had it relatively easy. The actors were absolute first class, and should be proud that they put themselves through this. No happy end unfortunately
By far the best Afghan war movie I've ever seen . When Canadians set themselves to do something as best they can , usually they achieve excellence . Done so hear . 🇺🇸👍👍🇨🇦
This movie is STUNNING! 2009 thru 2012, @20:00 as a civilian construction manager I passed thru KAF and Camp Bastion numerous times on my trips between a stand alone 1000 man police station in Lashkargah and Kabul. KAF was exactly as they depicted and YES I remember walking along that covered boardwalk, shopping local vendors as well as many from North America,, USA and Canada. British built Camp Bastion was very much the same,, many, many local vendors, North American and British shops. Outside the wire was very much a different story. I lived at the construction sites but for usual management reasons traveled back and forth from the project sites to Kabul. This movie was shown more true to life than any I have seen. Cudo's to the people who wrote, directed and portrayed (actors) life in Afghanistan.
this road had no real name before the name given, but it was a shit storm, the camp was made to service the area because of the importance of this life line and yet it flagged as yellow to red zones, as PMC S.OP seen this road going to Kabul may times before the camp came to in service..
When I was in Afghanistan 2006-08, I was told the Canadians had the highest KIA rate in theater at that time. While most of NATO refused to fight the Canadians, US, and Brits went out and fought. The Canadians were excellent Soldiers at that time.👍👍
My children & I continue to be harmed & worse by all so-called Authorities & the majority supporting them & this or that Red & White Country instead of an actual reasonable way of life; so you, like so many others, don't concentrate on what matters most, nor are moral, ethical, nor human - no matter who disagrees or ignores it.
@@farmalmtaLong reply inbound. Excellent movie, but there are some minor inaccuracies (hey, it's a movie!). I'd served in the CAF during the Afghanistan War. As a reservist officer, I didn't go over, despite being combat arms, but they did a fairly good job of replicating the CAF culture of the time and nailed the tension of that conflict. In the scene where you can see the Indigenous soldier's tags, they're not CAF style ID tags and the reticle for the Elcan C79 sight isn't correct. My profile pic is a Figure 11 target ("Herman the German") as seen through a C79 Side-note is that the Indigenous soldiers that I crossed paths with were frigging switched on. An Indigenous Sgt was one of the Directing Staff on an early career course. He was salt of the earth. Incredible teacher and cared about his troops very much. His wisdom, guidance and training style were incredible. That crse had amazing DS, lest for one whom irked the others with his sadistic streak. The others were older soldiers with elite qualifications (Assault Pioneer, Master Sniper and a Patrol Pathfinder). The latter two took me under their wings and became mentors. I'll never forget them or other DS and SNCOs who were very tough, but equally as fair and who both trained, guided and mentored you to become effective leaders. I also *very* strongly recommend the documentaries "Waging Peace" and "The Crazy Eights". Excellent look at Canadian troops in Afghanistan. It was hell over there. One must hold the deepest respect for those who did rotations there for their valour, sacrifice, devotion to duty and sheer resolve in hell on Earth while fighting against an enemy with no scruples. OP ATHENA was hell and OP MEDUSA was intense combat and a hell that I couldn't even begin to imagine, nor do I want to. OP ARCHER was hardly a walk in the park either. To this day, I still cannot imagine how hellish it was. It was honestly a scary time to serve because you knew that fellow CAF troops' lives and wellbeing were at risk every single day. Even if you never knew a soldier whom was killed or wounded, it still hurt like hell. A Cpl from my unit was severely wounded during OP MEDUSA when an American A-10 strafed Canadian troops. Other troops, including friends, were deeply affected by PTSD and it was immensely painful to see them suffer so horribly and how see Veteran's Affairs failed so many vets so miserably. If anyone should be foolish and blind enough to think that it wasn't a ghastly conflict, it sure as hell was and our troops gave it their all and then some every moment they were there. Apologies for the long post. This movie resonated very deeply with me. Hollywood couldn't create much that's close to the quality of this film.
I agree with you and most likely many more and I'm an American I believe Canada had just as much part in the war then any other country and should be recognized as such
An old lady friend of mine who lived in the UK during the blitz wailed and cried when I asked her what it (the blitz) was like. I thought I was asking a simple question but I failed to understand how sensitive a question like that can be to someone who experienced that. I’ll never forget it. It was like she was living it again. Also, My uncle who fought for Bosnia in the 90s told me how his friend lost part of his head and fell into my uncles lap and sadly died when he was shot. When he told me that story he lost it. Never seen him that way before then. PTSD is so horrible. It’s the most terrible thing for someone to go through. God bless our Realm and God save the King.
Your words of appreciation and empathy for both the filmmakers and your fellow warriors are deeply moving. As a combat veteran, your sentiment carries significant weight. May we all honor and remember the sacrifices made by those who serve. Thank you for your service and for sharing your thoughts.
As a Veteran, it is still hard to watch even after the passing years. Have to give credit to creators, directors, and actors for their dedication toward the authenticity of this film. Thank you…
Yes sir I know what you mean. I've been in combat and those of us that have been will always be haunted by it. I don't suffer from PTSD but I do have a heavy dose of survivors guilt. God Bless our veterans and the men and women that are serving currently

Great War movies make You cry because YOU have a big wonderful heart that loves life and hates the nasty part of humans that just want to destroy everything so they can rule everyone Or something like that It just shows you’re a good kind person that doesn’t agree with death and destruction that always comes with any war And it shows you haven’t been hardened by all the stupid shit we see in the news every day Just my opinion ……..
@@PeteGerard-p2f Look for the truth. You are not wrong. And you are wrong. Depending on your relative perspective. Honor is not an easy subject. Like life and love and war.
As a veteran it's difficult to find accurate portrayals of war, what it means to serve and the cost. Well done. This movie is now a highly favored military movie.
I always appreciate such a movie more when the accuracy of it is qualified by someone who knows. Thanks for that. Just looking at the mess and loss these soldiers have to work through just to in the end have to walk away with little (or nothing) to show for their efforts. Extremists, fanatics and dictators are a horrible lot but we are stuck with them as human nature goes
@@aguy6321 Most people US citizens or non-American such as myself are not military persons and so for people like us the story provides enough impact to better appreciate the horrible things military personal may (or may not I suppose in this case) go through even if this is over the top exaggeration. The point is I guess, I would never want to be in that ever, even a little, so from my perspective the movie does the job which elevates the statis of a military person in story that has some plausible perspective. It is a better story than watching military personnel washing armored vehicles and thanking them for their service.
I'm a young girl and although I don't understand war, I do comprehend the need for humanity to rid itself of those who harm, those who want to control via force. Damn, this was one powerful movie. Everything about it was great. Actors were great, action was great, story line was great. Very believable. I give it a 10/10. I was engrossed all the way through and fully engaged with the actors. I have seen quite a few reviews and so many people don't rate it. I really wonder what people expect these days from films. Like 22 million views on here in 5 months and 133K likes, and the majority of comments on here of people liking the movie. I think people want films to be 100% accurate in everything, which is impossible.

@Rudi_Mentary723 Honestly, BlackHawk Down was good but historically inaccurate to the actual events that took place. HBO's Band of Brothers & The Pacific are historically the most accurate and the most realistic war scenes. I feel like the Pacific

As a resident of Afghanistan, who witnessed such events, I say that these events were not as simple as you are presenting them, but they are so horrible that you cannot even imagine them.
I am sorry for your suffering. Most Americans cannot even begin to imagine what kind of horror life can bring. But as a holocaust survivor once said to his ignorant student. Paul Gross (The Director, and also Actor, he plays the Intelligence Officer), originally was planning on making a documentary about the Canada Army experience in Afghanistan and filmed there in 2010-2011. He decided to make a feature film instead, and incorporated a lot of the footage seen in this movie (such as the helicopter flights, and the guns firing the final fire mission.) A lot of the background "extras" are members of the PPCLI Infantry Regiment.
I have seen quite a few mid east films, but this one is definately one of the best. I didn't recognise anyone in it, but the acting, script, backdrop and just about everything else were fantastic. Highly recomended. Thankyou.

FYI. My first expeditionary deployment in the Middle East was in Abu Ghraib near the City of Baghdad, Iraq wasn´t that bad at all -- I kidd you not. Outstanding ¨Esprit de Corps¨ all around - met and worked with the best personnel on-base ever. However, Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan was the pits, secluded in the middle of nowhere surrounded by high-peaks and rocky mountains, sand storms the worst; but the dining-hall facility, mail call, both air and medical support were fabulous - by far the best. I recall President Bush coming over to Bagram Airfield on Air Force One for a short visit and had breakfast and lunch with the troops - Priceless! I was only a few tables away from the President´s envoy while I enjoyed my ham and cheese omelet with coffee and later had the courage to say Hello - we shook hands and asked me ¨where you stationed son?¨ ¨4th Fighter Wing, Operations Group of North Carolina, Sir!,¨ I gladly replied with a smile. In turn, he hands me over what seems to be a business card. Amazing! I have photos.

Hi ❤
Welcome home.thank you ❤
This movie is STUNNING!
@@jonathanwoodham4165 Acting was predictable; Not outstanding by any stretch.
this road had no real name before the name given, but it was a shit storm, the camp was made to service the area because of the importance of this life line and yet it flagged as yellow to red zones, as PMC S.OP seen this road going to Kabul may times before the camp came to in service..
AND THE DUTCH!!!! We lost many Dutch soldiers around in that hell hole. For what? I am disgusted by American wars

The TH-cam algoritm surprised me with this gem. A+
If Liz Cheney was there on the front lines how quick would there be peace talks
When I was in Afghanistan 2006-08, I was told the Canadians had the highest KIA rate in theater at that time. While most of NATO refused to fight the Canadians, US, and Brits went out and fought. The Canadians were excellent Soldiers at that time.👍👍
The fact the Canadians suffered the most casualties is they fought and did not hide behind the wire 24/7. Losses are a fact in land warfare.

The only skills you could learn form this movie is B grade hollywood acting
I applaud the filmmakers of this film and myself as a combat veteran. God be merciful to the warriors who are still alive and the fallen. Thank you.

Thank you for your service to the cause of freedom in the world . I was at Clark Air force base back in 1968-69, and I grew to like the Philippine a lot . You should be proud because the Filipinos established themselves as fine soldiers fighting the Japs in ww2 . I hope that the PI AND America will always be allies . How do you feel about U.S. having troops in the PI. ?
I guess America still hasn't invaded the Philippines.

Great War movies make You cry because YOU have a big wonderful heart that loves life and hates the nasty part of humans that just want to destroy everything so they can rule everyone
Or something like that
It just shows you’re a good kind person that doesn’t agree with death and destruction that always comes with any war
And it shows you haven’t been hardened by all the stupid shit we see in the news every day
Just my opinion ……..
You cry because you they r sacrificing their young lives . U r a very good man.
Makes you realize how futile it really is!
Honestly it's just waste of human lives on both sides for nothing but bullshit reasons!

Extremists, fanatics and dictators are a horrible lot but we are stuck with them as human nature goes

all due respect for your service sir,but this is about as far from real life engagements as it gets.but it is mildly fun to watch.

May God be with the men and women who sacrificed their lives. Gone but never forgotten.

@@dionst.michael1482 Yes it is. This is how Canadian military talk on the radio.
You can tell from body language they are soldiers. You see the same in Black Hawk Down
I have seen quite a few mid east films, but this one is definately one of the best. I didn't recognise anyone in it, but the acting, script, backdrop and just about everything else were fantastic. Highly recomended. Thankyou.
Greetings from the Malaysian army ... and from one of our military branches, the military special movement group. who often train together, both receiving knowledge and giving knowledge!
Ye ye kau nie askar 😂
10 minutes in and I'm already blown away - I wonder why I never heard of this excellent movie before?
Me too. I had never heard of it until an Instagram reel showed the first sniper scene on the road

It's touching to hear how the movie's portrayal of those locations resonated with you, especially given your firsthand experience in Afghanistan. Your gratitude towards the "Hyena Road" movie team is a testament to the impact their work has had. Thank you for sharing your appreciation!
Which year have you stayed at KAF?

That last phrase.. goosebumps
Among the best war movies I ever saw. Very different, and very touching. Strongly recommended.
A Very Intense and absorbing drama. "You might have the clocks, but we have the time..." has to be one of the best curtain-fall lines of any movie...
This is a great movie… with all what we are fighting for… Salute to the all the service men… ❤
MY NEPHEW WAS THERE
أنتم مجرمون مجرد محتلين طردكم الشعب الأفغاني وطلبان شر طردة
I don't think they mentioned pipeline plans and rare earth minerals. You know, the real reason the country was invaded.

Best puns on the Afghanistan War:
Soldiers, This is the ideal nation to visit the infamous Obama bin Laden, the idol of Afghanistan. Be very careful about your cleanliness, uniforms and personal hygiene on the Hyena Road to Kandahar because there are plenty of Canadian Candid Cameras watching all over your shoulders!!!!!?,
This movie is top class. Most accurate War Movie i've ever watched.
REALLY?!
The Canadian Flag patch is not even accurate

My two oldest sons were in Sangin in Helmand, seeing this makes it easier to understand their feelings and the carnage they saw. Great film.

I have since the 90s been a huge admirer of Paul Gross work . Yes I adored his as the Mountie in Due South . Still got the charm Mr Gross and congratulations on telling the truth in this movie . The letters of Alexander the Great are a nice touch .

One of the best movies out there as we the public will never know what these troops go through in war they are told one thing do your job and in the end they suffer dearly my heart goes out to them all.
I worked with the British army from 2004 to 2012 till life got hard and I became a refugee in Middle East. One visit to the UK for 4 weeks training in 2011 changed my life forever 😢😢😢
What happened there?
Afghans are actually hero. They fought against 48 countries till 21 years and save their country. They defeated them with their lives and won their freedom. Afghans are strong like rocks. Salute to Afghanistan from 🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰
😮 Whoa! Wasn't expecting what this film delivered. Will leave you with a lump in the throat. Five stars.
How old you now? What's your Facebook account I want you see those photos..
I recall Bush in the newspapers acting as if he just had landed a fighter jet on a carrier. At least Putin would be capable to land a MIG.
"expeditionary deployment", LOL... what are you russian?? you might as well have said "Special Military Operation".. It was an invasion, which is what we call it when you invade another country....and apart from that... jeez you are a sick puppet....
FYI. USA INVADED IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN WITH LIES... WAR CRIMINALS
