Yes sir I know what you mean. I've been in combat and those of us that have been will always be haunted by it. I don't suffer from PTSD but I do have a heavy dose of survivors guilt. God Bless our veterans and the men and women that are serving currently

I am very impressed that Paul Gross wrote, directed and co-starred in a movie that is not only brilliantly told and acted, but manages to be both tragic and beautiful at the same time.
I have been surprised how good this movie is. good story, good acting, nice pace, good cinematography, everything about this film is a job well done!

i tear up for the soldier couple, she's devastated but remained strong because she knows it's part of their job. she did the character so well and also the other actors...great job

THE best Afghanistan War movie I have ever watched. I can't believe I missed this one when it first came out but here 9 years later I'm glad I caught up with it. Leaves some Hollywood movies to shame. Great story, great acting and the most authentic movie of its type. Hats off to the film crew and actors.

as PMC S.OP going back and forth to Afghanistan to Iraq for different reasons over 7 years it was a crazy journey to say, of 16 years of service as PMC and meeting some cool people from the different service personnel thank you brother's and sister's there..

This movie is STUNNING! 2009 thru 2012, @20:00 as a civilian construction manager I passed thru KAF and Camp Bastion numerous times on my trips between a stand alone 1000 man police station in Lashkargah and Kabul. KAF was exactly as they depicted and YES I remember walking along that covered boardwalk, shopping local vendors as well as many from North America,, USA and Canada. British built Camp Bastion was very much the same,, many, many local vendors, North American and British shops. Outside the wire was very much a different story. I lived at the construction sites but for usual management reasons traveled back and forth from the project sites to Kabul. This movie was shown more true to life than any I have seen. Cudo's to the people who wrote, directed and portrayed (actors) life in Afghanistan.

this road had no real name before the name given, but it was a shit storm, the camp was made to service the area because of the importance of this life line and yet it flagged as yellow to red zones, as PMC S.OP seen this road going to Kabul may times before the camp came to in service..
AND THE DUTCH!!!! We lost many Dutch soldiers around in that hell hole. For what? I am disgusted by American wars

Makes you understand why all that brutally hard training was and still is much needed in the field. Respect is all I can think of.
A wonderful movie filling the huge void of missing Canada military experience. I'm 78 years old and spent time in the RCN in the 1960's and some other Legion members tell me to get veteran plates for my car and truck. I tell them no way am I a veteran. The years my dad spent overseas as a senior Troop Sgt of tankers fighting his way up through the Liri Valley in Italy and liberating Holland make him a veteran but no way could I display those plates with any pride of service.
This movie deserve 10* rating. What a great storyline.
Undeniable an excellent movie, the history of The Lion in the Desert is awesome he is a Kaloonie that goes deep in our history. Made my day .

Fantastic movie, IMO. This movie doesn't overly "Hollywood" things. Emotionally invested in this movie as my son was in Helmand Province, USMC CLB-4.
Yet another good movie, better than those shown at HBO channels. Remembering Saving Private Ryan which I watched many times when it was released first at the movies. This movie is also very interesting showing some great special effects and tactics. Just loved it! Yeah!

I was deployed as a civilian to Afghanistan from 2011 to 2020, Bagram, Kandahar, and Mazar-i-Sharif. Almost miss it watching movies like this.

I flew civilian 747 Freighters into all those bases you mentioned. I also flew in Desert Storm. I retired in 2016 but it was my kind of flying.
What a brilliant movie !! A movie that opens your eyes to what it was like in AFGHANISTAN, I have a friend who served there and says it was the worst posting off her life. Thank you for making this movie free to watch .

Excellent movie. I think Paul Gross did a great job of writing and directing this. I also liked how he paid respect to our military personnel, past & present.

I had supplied several materials to Kandahar Airfield via RFQ from ATCO Frontec, my important was sourcing the PAPI systems for the landing strip. I still feel proud of it.

Hyena Road, I have watch lot of action movies but this one touched my heart so much that I forgot it's only a movie.
I have watched this movie and over and over again that's over the past years and learnt something, it all about being humble and listening to advice just to save yourself. In life when you decide to ignore humility and decide to be pick up pride you will never move forward

I’m 14 minutes into this and I’m freaking blown away by the quality on every level. AND it’s Canadian soldiers. Im a Cold War vet. All training no deployment. Since our time in Afghanistan I’m shy about saying I’m a vet. These soldiers here….the real deal.

Even if you gave time and energy and months or years, only for training, you still gave. More than some can say. Be proud.

Having personally traversed KAF and Camp Bastion multiple times between 2009 and 2012 as a civilian construction manager, I can attest to the authenticity depicted on screen. The attention to detail, from the bustling local vendors to the familiar sights of North American, USA, and Canadian shops, accurately reflects the vibrant atmosphere of these bases. Walking along the covered boardwalks, engaging with local and international vendors, it all resonates deeply with my own experiences.
Camp Bastion, with its British construction, mirrored the dynamic mix of cultures and businesses found at KAF. Beyond the confines of these bases lies a different reality, one that I witnessed firsthand during my time living and working at construction sites across the region. Despite the challenges outside the wire, the film stays true to the complexities of life in Afghanistan.
Kudos to the writers, directors, and actors for their remarkable dedication in bringing this authentic portrayal to life on the big screen. It's rare to see such a genuine depiction of Afghanistan, and their efforts deserve applause.

When I was in Afghanistan 2006-08, I was told the Canadians had the highest KIA rate in theater at that time. While most of NATO refused to fight the Canadians, US, and Brits went out and fought. The Canadians were excellent Soldiers at that time.👍👍
The fact the Canadians suffered the most casualties is they fought and did not hide behind the wire 24/7. Losses are a fact in land warfare.

Thanks for the translation. I think subtitles would have been good when needed. (i.e. not when being translated). I'm friends with an Afghan translator who was attached to the Welsh Guards. Fortunately he and his family are now safe in the UK but I guess they would rather be back home.

I am not a vet. I am a follower of my family history, my grandad died 1st world war at only 18/19 my dad was a war hero so was my uncle. This film i had never heard of. All i can say is i am impressed believe and will watch again. Fantastic

You should be proud because the Filipinos established themselves as fine soldiers fighting the Japs in ww2 . I hope that the PI AND America will always be allies . How do you feel about U.S. having troops in the PI. ?
