      @@stefan.l3741Hi. Been one for 7 years. The thing I've learned is to hold the violin with your chin and test it by removing your hands from the violin and only hold it by the chin. In that way you can see if you are putting enough pressure on the chin. If you can hold the violin only by your chin, then your hands don't hold the violin. Therefore, your hands will be more relaxed. In that way,your fingers will only do the work of changing the tunes only and not holding the violin too. Hope this helps.

    It honestly depends on each person individually. I had mastered vibrato and basic shifting (1st and 3rd position) after 1.5 years. I'm left handed, so the learning curve was easier for my vibrato, and it also depends on your dedication and practice time, along with teachers and such. I had a school teacher who greatly helped me with auditions for conservatories and such, and I have always been dedicated. Don't look down on your progress, as everyone is different. Great video!

      I agree that it takes different amounts of time for different people but there is absolutely no reality in which someone can master vibrato in 1.5 years, there is so much behind an artistic vibrato that that is just not possible

    • @rishi-plays420
      @rishi-plays420 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@simonhill5650 I agree! My definition of mastered was to be able to consistently provide good sound with all four fingers in first and third position. Of course an artistic vibrato is something slowly learned, but I would say I "mastered" the fundamentals!

      True
      My classmate brought a violin months ago, and it was my first time trying it. After minutes, I was able to play Twinkle Twinkle.
      I was really eager at that time to learn so it probably accelerated more than a regular session should go.
      I'm considering buying a violin, it has many great advantages that could help me personally.

    By next October it will be my 3rd year of learning violin and I love your statements because they are very true. Now I'm starting to play simple bach and vivaldi concertos. At first i used to feel nervous because of getting influenced of some youtube videos that some people show they have progressed all of this witin a year. But the fact that violin is not how fast you learn but it's how persistent you are on practicing, how in tune you play and how much technique you learn and apply.

    • @mousabh1
      @mousabh1 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      How many hours do you practice on average weekly ?

    • @innovbrain
      @innovbrain 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @mousabh1 because I'm busy all week with work and house chores i practice 3 hours a week which means almost 13 hours a month means almost 150 hours a year now its been 3 and a half years in total almost 400 hours. It's not a lot if i was still a student i would have practiced more but even if you practice 40 hours a week 1 year is not enough to play intermediate pieces with different techniques. So her statement is quite reasonable.

    • @innovbrain
      @innovbrain 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also keep in mind what helps me alot that I have a good knowledge in music theory and intonation so this helps me alot maintain some musical level. But a person who has just started learning music theory needs to practice more and more to be able to imprint both his violin techniques, his intonation and musical sense

    • @violinlounge
      @violinlounge  ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Try another ten years 🤣😉, but seriously: usually if students come in and their vibrato doesn’t work, they’ve never done a specific set of exercises consistently every day for a few months. Vibrato is really a matter of consistency and not ‘trying a wobble’ once in a while. But it’s hard work and it differs a lot how fast we all learn.

      @classic014 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Wait actually?
      I’ve watched several videos and personally the best one is Ray Chens Masterclass on TH-cam.
      I started learning vibrato in the beginning of my second year. (Currently at the end of my second year.
      I took about a week to get the motion, a month to incorporate if, and two months to really get that full resonance.
      It also helps to just watch different violinists and mimic what you see.
      Just practice it, you’ll get it.

    For the people here saying they learnt to play xyz with only this months of Playing, well it's because it depends on how much time you invest amd how well is your double hand coordination. It can also be faster for you if you already have experience with string instruments like sitar or guitar. What she's showing here is the time it would take a total music beginner.

    seriously 2 months for twinkle star? I don't know if im cheating but i did it in 2 hours, genuinely not sure if the 2 months take in account of good bow control, and decent basic foundations and twinkle star is the first piece after learning all the stuff, but i for sure jumped straight in the moment i could make a sustained sound with my bow...

    • @violinlounge
      @violinlounge  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's indeed taken into account decent basic technique, good bowing, sound and good intonation. Usually people don't have all that in two hours ;).

      Progress varies greatly per person and the pieces you play sometimes don't say much about intonation, tone tone quality etc.

    I absolutely hate it when people try to make timelines like this. They're complete and utter bullshit. Yeah, you're trying to make interesting content and help people manage their expectations and all that, good for you. But even trying to make a rough estimate like this is just absolutely ridiculous, bordering on insane. Even when you're talking about a young child this is stupid af but for an adult? Someone actually old enough to watch this video and understand what it says? That just shows you put zero thought into it.
    How much practice time does the person have? How much motivation? What is their learning mentality? Do they move on too quick? Stay on the same "safe" piece for too long? Do they get lessons or not? How good is their teacher? How often do they get lessons? How much musical experience do they have before this? Did they ever play a string instrument before? What are they trying to achieve at all? Hell, did they do fucking clapping games in primary school??
    The idea that you can say anything at all of value on the topic of a timescale for learning an instrument that is valid for even just 10% of learners out there is insane and quite arrogant.
