Really cool technique! I've never seen it before, I will have to give it a go :D Looks like it's a good way to stop the prosthetic from being really chunky and heavy when it's a large build as well.
I don't even do these tutorials, I just watch because I find it interesting and I love you in general. This was very cool by the way, another great video. :)

I made a pig nose using this method without a life cast (unfortunately I don't have access to those materials and live in such a small town it's not available....wahhhh there was my pity party lol) BUT before you posted this video I was sure you had either purchased your prosthetic or used a different method to make this. AWESOME! I love the bloody bunny at the end..
I tried the stippling but it came out with a textured surface. Figured it must be the synthetic wedge sponge I used, too firm as it pushed it around and didn't sit smooth. Tried to fix it when the bumps showed a few layers later with a cheap bristle brush painting it as smooth as I could, no luck. It is a prosthetic witch nose with warts so the bumpy texture adds to ugliness, slight textured surface applied to a dummy's face ( I had no face cast yet).
Going to try the polyfoam brush and hopefully have better luck. This is fun! Thanks for the video +goldiestarling

5-7 layers of latex at the center of the prosthetic, okay, but how many layers in total do you stipple around the edges??? iam trying to do my very first own prosthetic this Halloween, and this Video is sooooo helpful!!!!!

Here's a question, how did you make your live cast?? I'm thinking of doing a full face and cowl makeup so I really need a live cast for the front. I have some ideas right now but I'm not sure yet
Could you do this same technique with silicone (like dragon skin) instead of latex?
I love this tutorial! Also, for people who cant find alcohol for smoothing out the clay you can use lighter fuel, I find it has the same effect! :)

Amazing work but I've got questions (if somebody else know as well I would love to give me some advices)
1. How long it takes for any layer to dry?
2. Can I use a hairdryer to dry it faster? If I can, I use cold or hot air?
3. Can I apply vaseline on the clay before the first layer so I can take it off easier?
4. Am I applying powder over every dry layer?

Great tutorial! What brand of latex do you use? I tried this but even with about 8 layers my latex was still too thin and it lost its shape :(

I've been into costuming as long as I can remember, and I was always a huge halloween nut. This Halloween was possibly my most ambitious costume yet, being a fully tricked out werewolf with an articulating jaw mask and Digitigrade stilts. Since I want to start taking this a little more seriously, I figured I should probably also get into makeup FX. Lets say I try making a basic scar appliance. Should I use latex for this, or use something else?

+Vessel Of Blood If you're using the oil-based clay it should come right off and clean up easily, then you can reuse it next time you need it.

Hey goldie I love your videos! Could you make one on fx makeup on a budget? I think most people can't really afford the expensive latex's and pallets you show, though they are amazing. Could you make a video on how to do some gore or fx makeup with budget tools and makeups! :)
there is a character I want to do a prosthetic for, but I'm not sure if it's possible, since I don't think I would be able to see out of it. The character is Sapphire from Steven Universe, and she has one eye. Could you possibly show us how to do a "cyclops" prosthetic and how to make it so we can see out of it?

Latex gives me a light rash. I’ll be using gelatin and silicone. I’m also allergic to blue shaving cream.
This might be a dumb question, but is the material you used in this video viable for making a a full head prosthetic? I'm picturing like a mask/hood that I could pull down over my head so that it's all one piece and easy for putting on and removing.
Where would be able to get a life cast made?
darkblood677 you might have to go to a professional SFX artist to get a proper mold cast of yourself made.

with a mannequin head, do you need to prep it in anyway to keep it from getting ruined??
you could probably use some spray sealant of some sort on it. TBH it's going to get sorta ruined either way so don't use something invaluable.

Hi there! I'm in the process of making some prosthetics and I love how simple this process is, especially cause the pieces I'm making are pretty small. I was wondering if you could do the same thing with fx gelatin instead of liquid latex? Do you know how it would hold up using this method?

Bisola Spice Sorry this is a bit late but I'm guessing that liquid latex would be your best bet, you can get it pretty cheap off of amazon. I've worked with gelatin before and you would not get the same results using it, it's very runny and it will not stay in place and bond to the clay as the latex would, and since it is so thick when it cools almost all of your details would be lost. However if you did want to use gelatin I suggest making a negative mold of the prosthetic with plaster then pouring the gelatin in the negative mold. I'm assuming that you want a simpler method though so Elmer's school glue should work just fine in place of latex 😊

Amazing! Do you think this technique would work for creating the skin of a puppet (dinosaur)? I was going to make it out of clay and they apply this latex all around it but I don't know if that's a silly idea or not.
Do you/can you reuse the clay after you have created the prosthetic? Does the alcohol effect the reuse?
