This video is 10yrs old, & still the most helpful, straightforward, & easiest tutorial I’ve found. Just know that in 2022, you’re still saving cosplays!💖
@andrewkomaniecki480 you can get tinted liquid latex in different skin tones. Not many but it can still help. They also offer clear too, just make sure you use a good foundation to cover it. Mehron make some good options for clear or tinted liquid latex.
Yes agreed with comment below. I have gone back to this video for 3 years now. It definitely deserves more love than what it's gotten. Thank you for your tutorial! This is brilliant
Latex is what your typical halloween mask is made of, so heat doesn't really have an effect on the prosthetic itself. However, it's important to use either spirit gum, or simply more liquid latex, to adhere it to your skin. Be sure to apply to a very clean, dry section of skin and allow it to set completely before applying whatever paint you may be using. Also, it's very important to cover hair (eyebrows, hairlines, etc.) with petroleum jelly, or even a glue stick, because latex will rip it out
when you apply the latex, make sure you apply it thinly to the edges so when you apply it to the skin, it blends in better.you can also a hairdryer to dry the latex in between each of the layers :)
Sending this to a friend bc I couldn’t explain how to do this technique over the phone. Completely forgot that I watched this video way back when I was starting out. Thank you so much for making such a helpful video!
Hi. Great Tutorial! Really awesome. Much better then slopping the liquid latex straight onto the skin! Once you've made the mold though, how do you actually apply/stick it to the skin? Thanks though! Great Tutorial!
I've watched so many videos on making this stuff and yours is the best on youtube. It's totally DIY, simple materials and the instructions are to the point. Lerve it. Thanks.
It will depend on how they are stored, used and also just things like temperature. They can last anywhere from afew months to years! On average though up to a year I've found.
yessss thank you, this video is so helpful i need to figure out how to make scars with liquid latex because i couldn’t figure out what else i could use so last minute for my joker costume to make scars on my face.
That was pretty dope. I've seen many things on film sets since I work there, but that's quite popular explanation. Only thing would be nice if you explained how to paint it decently 8)
Could you do this method to do scars? I’m asking because I have to do special effects for a school production, we’re doing phantom of the opera and I’m 14 doing it😂
I know this is probably a dumb question but ive never really used make up so what do I use to give the scabs colour I'm going to do a zombie costume this year.
Awesome video! I feel like my halloween costume is going to be amazing. Just a question, when you apply it to your skin, would you use latex again around the edges?
+WinterRose84, I'm gonna be cosplaying as Heath Ledger's Joker for next year's MetroCon. And I'm thinking about doin the scars. I really liked how you explained how to the scars. Especially the one with the staples. Thank you.
over the years i've found the easiest and smoothest chelsea grin to be latex and toilet paper. just apply liquid latex directly to your skin and ley single ply piece of tp, let dry and repeat. then cut through it. prosthetic pieces have (imho) are harder to get a perfect seamless edge which when doing something flat like the chelsea grin, matters. But for anything raised or seriously bruised etc, separate pieces are wonderful. However..easier and more on point for Heaths Joker, try Rigid Collodion/Scarring Liquid..it's the coolest stuff EVER. and you can layer it in the same pattern as heaths scars were and get the exact look s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/53/d8/9e/53d89ee7e752b0487845fd1c9a1e79ee.jpg
I want to make a Michael Myers dead eye appliance and I ordered liquid latex, I'm watching multiple videos to see how it works, thanks for the tutorial !!
Hi great video I'm sure this question has probably been asked but if I make them like you did on a cd or something and peal them off to put on my face as a scar how does it stick to my face. Do I have to latex the edges? 😊
You can use a little extra latex to help it stick, or some form of spirit gum. Either way you'll need to use some latex to smooth it down once applied.
@Polarcupcheck you can buy skin tone latex.... really once it's on your face you can set it with a powder and then apply foundation over the top. Some foundations will work better than others so it's trial and error.
I'm not 100% sure on the shelf life. They do last a long time, however the more you use them the harder they are to keep pliable. If you're careful you should be able to get several uses from them though.
This might be a very stupid question but how do I attach the props after I make them? Do I just put latex on the back before attaching and waiting to dry to my skin?
I only see ragged edges being made...I want to do gills on someone's neck for a sci-fi character, with a red layer underneath the skin colour on top, (like a C-shaped fish gill). I guess I would need scissors to make the curve out of the latex after I put it on and then pull it off, do the red underneath and then glue it down with eyelash glue or something?
Great video! I was interested in making a chin extension prosthetic like for a clown and was wondering how I would go about doing that seeing as I want to use it more than once?
How long do the pre-made pieces last? Like if I make several this year and don't use them all, will they still be usable next year? Is there a good way to preserve them?
Can you make a video on how to make a skin tear effect, like you head or arm or wherever, has bin cut open & a large piece of skin is hanging off showing brain, muscle, or bone whatever underneath.
Would you suggest colouring the prosthetic before application or after? I've been practising for halloween applying toilet paper with latex to my face, but it's touch and go with it, sometimes it'll look really good, other times it wont. Would you say it's much easier to do it this way?
I brushed on several layers of liquid latex, drying between each layer, but the final layer is very tacky. How can I get rid of this? Or is there something I can do to avoid this?
Thank you!! Very helpful! Any tips for making a Chelsea grin type joker smile? I want to go for the freshly-cut Joker smile and was wondering if you had tips for the corners of the mouth, with the moisture and stuff. Thanks again!
Dip cheerios in liquid latex.. when you cover them with makeup they look like barnacles :) . But since its a food item don't make them until 24 hrs prior to when you want to use them.
With the liquid latex cuts, would it still be a good idea to buy some modeling/scar wax? If you've tried that, which one is better and more realistic? Thanks!
can this be applied to a upper body suit? along with foam muscle bits and probably some tissue and cotton to shape cuts and bullet holes. and what are the chances if anything splitting or cracking from basic movement, I plan to make this one solid piece, like a sweat shirt.
What is the best way to make a prosthetic natural skin color? Would I have to run out and start buying expensive cosmetics like MAC? I'm wondering what kind of time and cost I'm in for to make a nose and blend it into my face.
I can't watch the video. The ad that plays before it gets stuck and won't move forward. I've tried clearing my browsing history, etc., but nothing helps.

@@WinterRose84 One question. One of my actors in my horror film is South Asian with tanner, more brown skin tone. What type of Latex should I use?
@andrewkomaniecki480 you can get tinted liquid latex in different skin tones. Not many but it can still help. They also offer clear too, just make sure you use a good foundation to cover it. Mehron make some good options for clear or tinted liquid latex.
@@WinterRose84 When you say "tinted latex", you mean "light flesh?" Is that a good option? Andrew K.
@andrewkomaniecki480 light flesh is the pink light colour, they also have deep or dark flesh, and clear.

Genuinely most useful liquid latex video I've seen :3
Agreed
Thank you
Thanks!
Thank you 😊
Toilet paper, latex, and baby powder. Who knew it could be so simple? ❤ it. Can't wait to try.

I'm so glad it helped!
if you soak your brushes in hot soapy water right after you use them with latex it will all come off! (:tried n true
Yeah i do that too lol baby oil and water works too
:-D
Alcohol works better,.
Im seeing this in 2020 and is the most functional video i've ever seen!
Greetings from Mexico.
2021 for me
So glad I came across this video! First time user of liquid latex. So excited
Thank you! I hope it helps.
This is exactly the video Ive been looking for! Definitely going to try this!! Absolutely love this video!
Thank you so much, glad it helped
I agree
love this tutorial!! needed to find a way to make make fake scars and wounds for my sister's Halloween costume. I give it a big thumbs up
Hi. Great Tutorial! Really awesome. Much better then slopping the liquid latex straight onto the skin! Once you've made the mold though, how do you actually apply/stick it to the skin?
Thanks though! Great Tutorial!
I just made my first scar, and now it's drying.. I hope it works! Your tutorial is really good!
I have a Halloween competition coming up in my cosmetology class, this is VERRY helpfull and saves me a lot of money and time. Thank you!!
Thank you so much, I'm so glad you found it helpful 😊
Thank you. This was the most simplest form I found
Thank you, I'm glad it was helpful 😊

This literally saved my cosplay tysm!!! I know this is an old video, but I'm trying to make a half mask burn scar and this helped soooo much!!!
I'm so glad it helped you ☺️
How long can you keep your liquid latex pr

How long do they keep before drying out? If I made it the night before would ybat be okay?
This video really helped me!!! This is the best one I saw 😀
Thank you so much. I'm happy it helped!
I know this is probably a dumb question but ive never really used make up so what do I use to give the scabs colour I'm going to do a zombie costume this year.
Ayee, scabs normally are purpley-red. If your going for more of a skin peel I'd use black. Bruising can be accomplished with just purples and pinks :)
best to google it. You can get it online, special fx makeup stores even costume/party shops sometimes sell it.
I get my little disposable containers from fast food places or coffee shops.
The wood stirrers and condiment cups work well lol
Ew, gross.
I love it
Nathalie Fay 👏👏👏👏👏👏
it depends on where you live. I'd suggest you google it to see if you can find a makeup store or party supplies store near you.
@hottrott123 nope, we don't have sephora, ulta or anything really close to them in Australia.
Awesome video! I feel like my halloween costume is going to be amazing. Just a question, when you apply it to your skin, would you use latex again around the edges?
You can to help blend in the seam.
it can so you need to blend it out and you may need to use foundation to colour match your skin.
like allan ruiz said above, just use some liquid latex, you can also use spirit gum.
Thanks for tip I just bought a FX kit and works well 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
@@TheSolo38 I hope this helps you!
You can also use a pallet knife to aply the latex instead of the brushes
such a great idea, ive never thought to make the wound 'before' applying it to ur face xxx
Hi, could you please tell me what you put underneath it when you decide to put it on you, do you put more liquid latex??
What if I want to sculpt in clay first? Can you do a video on how to simply transfer clay into latex prosthetic?
how do u attach them to your skin after making them?
spirit gum or a little more latex
+WinterRose84, I'm gonna be cosplaying as Heath Ledger's Joker for next year's MetroCon. And I'm thinking about doin the scars. I really liked how you explained how to the scars. Especially the one with the staples. Thank you.
im trying to make like a side mouth zombie with latez but how do u get the teeth to show on latex.
use eye lash adhesive that works too.

I want to make a Michael Myers dead eye appliance and I ordered liquid latex, I'm watching multiple videos to see how it works, thanks for the tutorial !!
liquid latex need to put in tissue?
is it okay if I don't put in tissue and use just liquid latex?
I dont think you can get the texture without it seeing that the latex is liquid.
Thank you for this video. Really clear instructions.
I now feel confident I can make just about
anything with liquid latex! Thanks again.
Thanks This is great! How do you apply them?
You can use a little extra liquid latex or spirit gum to apply them.
Hi great video I'm sure this question has probably been asked but if I make them like you did on a cd or something and peal them off to put on my face as a scar how does it stick to my face. Do I have to latex the edges? 😊

Thanks for sharing this, great video - one question, do you just out some more liquid latex on when applying to the skin or does it stick anyway?
You need to use something to hold it on, like spirit gum or a little more liquid latex.
Bravo! Wonderfully simple and yet most helpful.
Can I please ask, once made scars bulletwoonds etc how long is the shelf life for the made scars etc. Can I re-use and re-use,
I'm not 100% sure on the shelf life. They do last a long time, however the more you use them the harder they are to keep pliable. If you're careful you should be able to get several uses from them though.
You can also use cotton wool instead of toilet paper
Very informative for making the scars on a joker costume, thank-you!
How do you attach it to your skin once made please? Would a layer of latex work?
Yep, just use some liquid latex or some spirit gum.
@@WinterRose84 thank you kindly 😊
i bought some liquid latex in Canberra from the costume store across from K-mart in the tuggers hyperdome. its $9:90 for 30mls

You can use a special face safe glue like a spirit gum. They make some for this type of thing. Or you can use a little liquid latex.
I brushed on several layers of liquid latex, drying between each layer, but the final layer is very tacky. How can I get rid of this? Or is there something I can do to avoid this?
