- This is part 2 in the series of how to do an annual service on a 40 HP mercury outboard. This is a 2006 Fuel Injected four stroke outboard motor. In this video I go over the process I use to change the lower unit oil in a 40 HP Mercury four stroke outboard motor. This process is the same for pretty much all outboard motors, so you can apply the information in this video to any size outboard from a 2 hp all the way up to 150 hp.
At the end of the video I show you how I removed a very tight drain plug without damaging it or the case. Worth watching until the end if you are after a great tip.
One of the better videos I seen. Very good!
Thank you very much
When using the yellow gasket, what side does the metal ring on the gasket go? Thanks!
I use a standard hand impact driver to remove oil plug otherwise you will strip out the screw slot.
Great demo THANKS
Good day. Great video. It really helped, but I have a question. I just disassembled the water pump on my 2017 40 HP Mercury outboard. I took a picture of the impeller in the housing and it turns the opposite direction of your video. I made sure to replace it exactly the way it came out, but I am concerned that it will turn counterclockwise, and your video said that never happens. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks.
what THREAD is that lower lube kit fitting?
I believe mine has o rings for gaskets, was missing one from factory. 😢
What is the difference between the quick silver premium and the high performance gear lube? I noticed the premium says for motors below 75 hp but I’m wonder if high performance gear lube would give me better protection in my mercury 40hp.
If I remember correctly the premium is a lower viscosity, among other things. We use the high performance gear lube in everything without issue.
@@CanadaWideMarine ok thank you for your help. And thanks for your videos. This helps me save a ton of money.
did you put in new nuts as well? or just the new gaskets?
Just Gaskets.
