    I just purchased a used Yamaha 15hp and figured I would clean the carb and found this same problem. Thanks Jim

    2008 Yamaha 20hp 4 stroke. Would run fine until planned off with wide open throttle. Would slowly start to stumble after less than a minute, and Would almost stall in a sharp turn. Took carb off to clean it and was spotless. Reinstalled and did same thing. Watched this vid and saw the float was about 10 degrees from parallel to carb! Sanded button down till float was parallel. Problem solved. This man is a true mechanic.

    You just cured a major headache I've been having with this 2014 Yamaha F20 SEHA. Thank you for your video

    Thank you so much. Been struggling with a 3.5hp Mariner that has the mixture screw sealed. I'll definitely try this.

    Have one similar but when float drops the needle hangs, the float is not pulling on the needle. Sanding the black tab I good hack, thank youbfor that, working on a merc 75 4 st. Hate 4 stroke carb motors !! The carbs always seem to have issues.

      You may be missing the retaining clip that connects the float to the needle. It is a very fine wire clip, easy to misplace.
      Four stroke carbs are very different from two strokes mainly because of the smaller jets, but also the lack of oil in the mix. Proper fuel system maintenance is key to reliable four stroke carbs, and unfortunately most people do not keep the maintenance up properly.
      Water separating fuel filter, (Replaced annually), ethanol free fuel, drain or run carbs dry when not using for a while, and fuel stabilizer are a very good start.

    Hello, i have a problem with my carburetors on a 1976 115hp evinrude outboard that leaks when the motor is tilted. I just put in new carburetor rebuild kit and the problem is still there. Not quite sure if that's normal or there's something else I need to check too. The floats are pretty parallel according to my eyes. I throw it in the carburetor cleaner for about 3 hours. When I put it together, the problem didn't go away. This gas leaking was always there when i got the motor. I tried everything I know. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. That would be a great help. Thank you...

    Got a 2013 tahatsu 15hp 4 stroke...can the float be adjusted with only the plastic needle holder (solid needle)?

    • @CanadaWideMarine
      @CanadaWideMarine  ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically no. But, if your float level is incorrect you can try using a heat gun to warm the plastic of the float to bend to correct height, or if the float level is too low you can very carefully sand the end of the needle that contacts the float to correct the float level. First I would want to be sure to identify exactly why the float level is incorrect.

      Gotcha! Good advice. It's dumping fuel out of the overflow. Needle is fine...carb is clean..

      I have the same issue on a 30hp Mercury. Intermittently leaking gas out of one of the overflows. Did you find a solution for yours?

    Does this work for 2 strokes too? Being parallel with carb body?
