Thanks for perfect instructions. I used them to dissemble and reassemble my ROG laptop. I had to replace the entire keyboard assembly and bottom case. So everything had to come out of it. I spilled 10 ounces of hot munedo into my laptop, effectively destroying it. I got lucky and what I needed to fix it was on EBay. I got even luckier when I got it all back together and pressed the power button. It works!!! I think I might have a couple screws in the wrong places, but it's back together and it works! Thank you very much.
My screws where tightened by a Titan and sealed with a magical barrier. I managed to remove 4 before the x on multiple screws turned into a forsaken circle.
I know this is an older video, but it kept my G751 alive a bit longer. Ive had the since since 2015, and only a couple of weeks ago, the fans (specifically the left exhaust fan) started making noises. I opened it up, replaced the fan, thanks to this video and put it back together. Besides the horrible fidgity wifi antenna cables, the only issue i had was remember which screws go where, in the main body. Thank you for making this hardware last a bit longer. I will also say, for anyone using an older gaming laptop; dual SSD disks running raid helps.

Great DIY guide! Followed almost everyting beside loosen up the motherboard completley. Just removed the screws ontop so i could flex the motherboard a tiny bit to remove the battery and install a new one.
@Dongleboo You are a lifesaver!!!! I was at my wits end worried about the noise my laptop was making (same model btw). I had fallen on an escalator and the stairs hit the side of my laptop that caused something to break off and go into the fan. I've never taken apart a laptop before so I was going to go to an IT company like geek squad to get it done but they wouldn't even tell me price and the only thing they told me was the price for the diagnostic which was over the top expensive!! my friend recommended this video to me and I disassembled the laptop (but just to the part of lifting off the keyboard) and I cleaned the fan with the duster spray. I successfully reassembled everything and my laptop is so quiet! Thanks again for posting this video HUGE help!!

Thanks for this video, a while back I felt something rather odd whenever I right-clicked on my touchpad and sometimes it didn't even register the input. Somehow, a small piece of plastic had fallen off of some internal part of my computer and gotten itself lodged under the right mouse button on the touchpad.

I had a problem with the CPU fan that was making a lot of noise and the battery who's led was blinking, the fan is replaced and the battery disconnected then connected back and now everything runs smoothly again. +BELDJILALI Farouk Ok, now I understand - open CMD and type in command: powercfg /batteryreport - it's going to create an .html file which you can open with your browser and then look for "Battery capacity history" -somewhere around the middle. If it's under 80 000 mWh then you have a dying battery. I had the same issue and a defective battery. It died after only 6 months and was down to 60 000 mWh and didn't want to charge past 92%. If you have a sudden drop in capacity then the battery is defective. The problem is that the battery itself has only 1 year warranty and if you have your laptop longer than this, than you can't change it under warranty. And take this as an advice - NEVER leave your laptop to discharge and then charge it again! If you're using it keep it plugged in at all times! I hope I helped.
so in short i need to replace the battery but sometimes it says not charging the led light starts to blink . If you discharge the battery comes back to normal and through that was the fix but my battery level is drying. Please what but my keyboard.?
Thanks for this video. I needed to replace the bottom part of the case because it had broke in a fall. I watched your video once and was able to completely disassemble the laptop and put it back together. My only issues where my own fault where I didn't put the keyboard ribbon back in securely and the keyboard didn't work, and the battery wasn't in all the way so putting the speaker piece back was difficult at first. It's a great guide, thank you! This video really helped me while I've disassembled my laptop to place RAM modules into the internal slots. It sounds a little bit strange but my model came with only one 8 GB module in one of the internal slots.
Its usually not the fan that needs cleaning but the copper heatsinks that are blocked with dust. A little bit of fine dust on the fan blades doesn't really matter.
Nice vid. I appreciate you taking the time. You can actually pull out the battery without taking off the mobo. It is a bit difficult. You have to wiggle it and round it out. But it can be changed without fully taking off the keyboard or the display. You just have to be careful. Good vid.
I found about that while I making the video. I actually removed that part from the final video in post because you have to apply some force to twist the mobo a bit and then force the battery out and it's not worth the efforts and the risk when you can simply undo 6 screws and remove everything.
great walk through. but as for the battery removal. you can remove it without taking out the motherboard. remove the 2 screws on the battery & unplug it. then take you're thumbs and push it back and then up on the front and it will come out.

Thank you for your video. Extremely helpful! I took the laptop apart first time to replace the RAM to solve one issue. I may have created two more issues though: The DVD ROM does not read any disks and the drive letter does not display anymore. However, when I run the third party hardware scanner I can see the drive model, controller details, etc. Second issue the keyboard backlight stopped working. Only struggle I had was putting back the ribbon cables because I didn't realize the clips were there so I may have forced them in. I may try to reseat them. Any other suggestions? Thanks very much!
Was kinda hoping I wouldn't need to almost entirely take it apart to get to the wireless card.... but I guess I will have to do this soon lol. Tried so many things to fix my intermiten wireless connection issues on my g751jy, but this wireless card is a known fault card unfortunately.

Hey. I can't remove the keyboard panel from minute 6 onwards. All the locks on the borders click open but the portion below the numpad feels like it's glues down. Is it the same for your laptop. I tried applying some force but it still doesn't come out. Is there a way around this?

Hi! I don't suppose you could help me out? This was my first time taking apart a computer of any kind due to a dead battery, and I'm about at my wit's end when it comes to putting it back together. My screen no longer seems to be aligning correctly to the laptop, and a popping sound can be heard when lifting it, and the back part with the speaker wire won't click into place. When closed, the screen is angled towards the left (Like a diamond instead of a square, only not so dramatic is the only way I can think to describe it). Looking closer, the hinges behind the battery towards the front of the laptop aren't the same. On the right side, the black plastic hook that goes around the metal piece is popped off, whereas the left hook is correct. It will fix itself when opening and closing, but the pop sound is still there and the screen is still not aligned, and the back piece still won't pop into place. What did I do wrong?
The only thing that comes to my mind is that you might have messed up the placement of the screws on the hinge or misaligned the holes. Although I'm not even sure how that can be accomplished, still it's maybe an option. There are quite a few holes and 2 different sized screws which go there, along with the small metal plates, which are marked L and R. Check those out as well, you might have swapped them out...somehow. As a last resort, I suggest that you take it apart again, and start over.

Awesome video. I disassembled my ASUS too and it was not the first laptop or computer that I disassembled. But I encountered a problem this time. When putting it back together again, I did everything wright (I think), but it would not start. Then I disassembled it again and found out, that it is operating normally, only if I do not connect the touchpad. I looked closely at the touchpad cord, found no damage, connected it several times, but it still does not work. I had to leave touchpad disconnected in order it to work. Does anyone know what could be the problem?
This might be due to some short out. There's one thing I'd like you to try out - since the cable from the touchpad can be disconnected from both sides, try to connect the cable only from the MB side, so you can rule out cable defect. If it doesn't start on the other hand, maybe the cable is shorting out and some safety feature is preventing your laptop from starting. Usually there's no reason why it shouldn't start and if it's not the cable It would be a bit weird.

Its going to help me quite a bit in the future when I finally get the courage to disassemble my laptop [G751JT] to that extent to replace the battery as it is completely dead, it sits at 0%charge and it says that its not charging the led indicator blinks orange [changes to green once in a while for a second]. You seem like a guy who is very experienced in taking apart the G751 and have done it many times... I have a few questions I hope you don't mind answering ;) 1. When disassembling the laptop to replace the battery, are there any components that you can get away with not removing in order to avoid additional hassles? 2. Will using latex surgical grade gloves prevent static build up from shorting out components? 3. Is it safe to clean the top of the keyboard around the keys and touchpad with a household vacuum cleaner to get rid of the dust that has settled under the keys without building up static? 4. I upgraded the RAM of the laptop as soon as I got it to 32GB [came with 16GB] by filling the empty slots with the same RAM it came with.. How big will be the impact on battery life with the additional two RAM cards? Thank you :)
Hi Varun, yes I've taken mine apart at least 10 times now so you could say I know my way around it. Here are answers to your questions: 1. No, not really. The disassembly is a step-by-step process and in order to remove one part, you have to remove the other before or after that so you can reach the next one. The parts which do not require to be removed are the speaker boxes and the SD card reader, as they are far away from the MB. 2. I've never used any kind of gloves and to be honest I was quite amazed that some people have managed to damage their laptops in that way. They might help, but I'm not sure about that, so I prefer not to advise for and against them. 3. The keys are quite robust and quite hard to remove, still, a vacuum at full power might be able to pop one out if it's directly over them. To be honest I'd suggest a can of compressed air. It's safer and actually better. 4. As far as I'm aware, the ram is one of the most "power-efficient" components in a laptop, so even if there's some impact on battery life, it should be easily neglectable I'm using my laptop more like a Desktop at the moment. I haven't removed it from my desk at home for over a month. :D This is the best way you can preserve the battery. Usually, I wouldn't even bother changing my battery again but from time to time I do move it to the sofa, etc. so I decided to change it.

I used to charge and discharge my battery throughout the day, and thought that keeping it plugged in and constantly charging would be bad for it.. My battery ended up dying in 1 year.. Now when I get a replacement battery, I'll keep it plugged in at all times and once a month discharge and recharge it.. :D
You're welcome. :) As for the discharging of the battery, do not discharge completely. Go down to 25-30% and plug it back in. That's actually good for it! :)
The fan on my G751 is super loud. Someone told me I need to clean the fan, and someone told me the bearing on my fan is going. Any suggestion? If the fans should be replaced, what is a reputable site where I can purchase replacement fans? Thanks for your help! Your video is really helpful!
Well, I'm not really sure what do you mean by very loud? When the laptop's under heavy load, you can easily hear the fans, they're quite loud at certain RPM-s. If they're making a squeaking or loud whining noise they might have a bad bearing, but other than that it's ok. I really don't know which site is more "reliable" but the fan specs are 12V 0.40A with a 4-pin connector.
Thanks for the tutorial. Could you tell me how to clean/oil the fans? How do we oil it properly? EDIT: I held my laptop on its side while it was running and the fan started making the noise. I believe it tilted the axle and allowed it to scrape and wear out the bearings. Any possible fix besides replacing the fan?
+Koju Kin For the cleaning, a can of compressed air will do it. As for the oiling...I haven't done it in this laptop but usually there's a small cap under the info sticker which opens and you can see the shaft. You have to take it apart and inspect it up-close because I really don't know how it is in this laptop. The oil itself should be sewing machine oil or something similar (DO NOT USE WD-40), you can get it from any fabrics shop etc.. You'll need a single drop only, don't put more than this.

+Admiral CoffeMaker It's very easy. Just be patient - get the circular connector directly over the pin. Don't tilt it in any direction. Just press it down. It should click! It needs some force to be applied, but only a little bit. If you can't do it with your fingers, grab the cable with one hand, place it over and use the screwdriver to press it in.
So I have two questions for you. 1. Is it possible to remove the rear red fan vents without removing the keyboard or monitor? I use my laptop in a professional setting and get some dirty looks from "business type people" when they see the gamer laptop. Hoping to paint them black. 2. Do you know of a source for the hard drive cradles? Mine only came with one cradle and Asus is not willing to send/sell me one.
1. LOL I have the same issue as I'm an IT specialist. What about the big glowing "Republic of Gamers" logo on the back? XD Anyway, you can get access to the vents by removing the panel behind the monitor. I'm not sure however if the vents can actually be detached from the main chassis. Also, I'm 90% sure that the heat sinks have to be removed in order to remove the vents. This means removing the entire motherboard which is a complete disassembly. My cousin's laptop came with only one cradle as well and we contacted Asus but they refused to sell this. I have no idea where you can get it from. Maybe look for a broken/damaged G751 for spare parts?

Hi, technically there's no danger for the data, because you're not modifying/tampering the storage. Either way, a backup is always recommended, just in case. Be careful around the display cable. A lot of people somehow damaged their motherboards. I presume because of electrical shocks or shorting something by accident. Be careful with metal tools around it and try to disconnect the battery first and connect it last. This way you can be sure you won't short something out.
I know this video is older but i have an issue. For some reason i cant get the keyboard part completly off. It feels like that in the middle its still being held together somewhere. Becquse of that i cant reattach the display. Its kind of a bad description but maybe anyone knows how to help here.
Thank you for this great video! I opened my G751jt to clean the fans and heatsinks with a small brush. After the "surgery" everything was great, but after a few hours I could at times hear an irregular ticking/clicking. The day after, the ticking slowly got louder and sometimes it clicks very loud. I do not dare to turn it on anymore until I have solved it. Do you have any idea of what it can be and how to fix it? Could it be a harddrive making the sounds?
I seriously doubt that it's the HDD. More likely one of the fans is touching the fan casing. I think you might've over-tightened the screws and there's not enough space. Try to loosen some of the screws turn on the laptop without screwing down the palm rest and keyboard and try to locate the source of the ticking. Usually its not a good idea to brush the fan blades. Use canned air or just blow with your mouth.
It turned out to be the HDD so I have now saved the most important data and removed the HDD until I buy a new one. I am very happy it was nothing worse, and now my computer is running great again. :D

First thing that comes to my mind is a bad connection of the display cable. Maybe it's not plugged in correctly or something. Please double or even triple check the display connector on the motherboard. The same goes for the keyboard. The flat flex cables can be a bitch sometimes and they can short out in between the pins if the cable is plugged in a bit sideways. Connections are very important. I took apart mine again yesterday (for the 10th time) to install more memory and I have no issues whatsoever. Please check the connections and give some feedback! The display connector is rather fragile and delicate so inspect is for bent contact pins etc.
+Dongleboo Thank you for your answer. I didn't touch the motherboard at all, I just unplugged the keyboard (it's working fine) and the screen in order to clean the fans. I unplugged and replugged the screens plugs like 20 times, but it's still not working. I don't know really know what to do anymore tbh.
Sorry to hear that man. I have no idea what could've gone wrong there. Maybe as a last resort, try to remove the battery (CMOS battery) after removing the main battery.
Hey, I stripped my laptop following this video. Cleaned out the fans and replaced the thermal paste on the GPU and CPU. Now that I’ve put everything back together, it won’t start up. I have it plugged into the wall and the battery light is on but no matter how many times I click the power button, the laptop doesn’t power on. Any solutions?
I was having the same problem after putting everything back together my laptop wouldn't power on. So I disassembled it again and remove the memory slots. After putting it back the laptop worked. I'm not using the battery since it's dead. Actually I watched this video to remove the battery. Hope it helps

Hi dude, try the VGA connector. Hopefully you didn't kill the GPU but only the HDMI and/or display output. Either way, if it sparked, I think that something might've died. I'm sorry this happened to you.
@@amv.techpro Thanks man, I did a bit of fiddling around, seems like only the LCD is not turning on, the external monitor is working fine. Ordered a replacement connector and will have it sorted later on. Think this happened because while resetting the connector back in place, it 'rubbed' against the other pins, so either the actual connector died or the motherboard one, I'll have to see later on. On the plus side, decreased temps by 7C on the GPU and CPU so I guess it's all good.
@@ytdood Yes the results are pretty good indeed. Also if you re-paste with some good thermal paste or even better - liquid metal it's gonna be even better. I'm planning to put liquid metal next month. It's a bit dangerous though. Good luck with your display.

The DC jack is soldered to the motherboard. It's easy to replace if you have some experience in soldering. If not, better take it to a repair shop. If something goes wrong (and a lot can go wrong) it can become a big issue.
Hello, GREAT video! Very detailed and helped me all the way. BUT, hopefully you have a idea what i should do. updated bios, but instead i seemed to have bricked it. Computer wont even post. only a black screen. Googled, and found out that removing the battery might fix it or else break power to cmos battery. Followed your guide to disassemly my G751JY. Removed the cable from computer battery on the motherboard and tried running it only with powercord. Did not start at all. Pluged in the battery and now it does not even indicate some life. Nothing lights up. Could I have shortened the motherboard?? Do you have any tip of what I could do?
+Fredrik Sjöberg Before you try anything else, remove the main battery, unplug the DC power and remove the CMOS battery for 5-10 minutes. After that put in the battery, plug in the the main battery and check for any disconnected cables ( fans, USB 3.0 board, etc. some laptops refuse to start if there's a faulty connection. It's worth the check. Also check very carefully the power button connection to the motherboard. If it's not in the right place it won't work because the pins won't align. When you connect everything give it try. If it doesn't start then the BIOS killed it. Updating the BIOS is very risky in the first place. Please let me know if this worked! I've had a similar experience with an old desktop.

The way you describe it, It might be a bad connection or a LED driver issue on the LCD matrix itself. There's no flex cable, just a lego-like connector which I remove at @09:05 Just try to turn on your PC (you have to press the small power button with your fingernail) with the palm rest moved a bit down and then move around or press down the connector and see if anything changes. If it's not the connection, then you might be looking at a faulty LCD matrix and/or LED driver. Either way it calls for a replacement. You can get it for around 100-120€ off ebay.
Yeah, mine did the same as well. If the battery is completely dead sometimes the laptop turns off just like that. This usually occurs under heavy loads, when it has a power shortage. Usually, it'd use the battery, but since it's the same like no battery at all, it turns off. This laptop isn't made to function without a battery like other laptops are.
Not sure if you still check this at all, but I could use help with something. My laptop is out of warranty, and the plastic that covers the right hinge seems to have started to break under pressure, which is also causing pressure for the screen. Would you happen to know if it's possible to get replacement parts for that and if repairing it would be feasible? Everything else seems to work fine for now, it's just the hinges.

If it's not there, I'd suggest checking on ebay, since in most cases it has some spare parts as well. As for the repair itself - I think it's a matter of a simple swap. Just want to point out that the prices on this website are a bit high, so like I said, do check ebay first.

To be honest, my hinges are rock solid. The same goes for any surrounding plastic parts. I'm surprised that you're having issues with them, as this is perhaps one of the sturdiest display mount mechanisms I've come across. Please let me know when you fix this.

As far as I can tell, the monitor and the actual hinge seems to be fine. It's just the plastic covering breaking down. Weird. Maybe it is actually a manufacture defect. I think it's better to look for a dead laptop, which you can buy off ebay. Too many parts have to be replaced. Look for a complete dispay assembly.
+James Stricler Usually this type of turbine fans pull the fresh air from above. There are no actual openings for it. It gets from everywhere. This is why it gathers some dust on the speaker grills because air passes trough them as well. It was the same on the old G51, as well on the G750 etc. They all have similar design.

This video will help me clean mine when its due for one. The only question i have is which is the GPU and which is the CPU? I know the GPU will have memory modules around it. I would like to know. I have the G751JY VS71 model.
I'd love to answer that, but I've never actually checked and I'm not sure, which is which. I think the one closer to the battery is the GPU and the one in the "center" of the MB is the CPU, but it's just a guess, really. I'm glad it helped! :)

Hi, I'd like to replace keyboard in this model. Any recommendation how to go about removing and then putting it back together with the top cover? It seems to be welded/glued with it but I can see quite few places offering online just the keyboard so there must be a way.
To be honest I don't know. There was one guy here who said they will change his in some PC repair shop, but I have no idea how it went. The keyboard is actually high-frequency welded to the palm rest/chassis. The same goes for the touchpad. You can find the whole set here - bit.ly/2hmn9h1 It costs approx 100 euro with the keyboard and the touchpad if I'm not mistaken.
Cool, no worries. I'm more interested in replacing just the keyboard (not only because it's much cheaper but I also like the challenge). Separating from chassis and then attaching back will be tricky though. I think some type of glue might do the job (epoxy perhaps?) but I'm still at the stage of figuring it out so doing preliminary research. The feedback and link was welcome so thank you for that, much appreciated. TH-cam needs more channels like this. Keep up the good work!

I have a G751JL and I've been wanting to clean the fans, but I can't seem to pull the keyboard up to expose the fans and insides. The right side, for whatever reason, feels like its stuck and even after using a card to pull it up, it won't come off. Any idea what to do?
You are probably missing a screw. Once you pull it up from behind the display hinges it goes up fairly easy. Check if you've removed all screws including the ones that are under the "service lid". There are 4 screws there. Check carefully!
Gelson Montalvo Hi, the display is exactly the same across all versions, whether it's JY, JT or whatever. The only exception is the G-Sync panel which is considerably more expensive.
I've had my g751 for about 9months now and hadn't really done anything to maintain it's internals. I've only cleaned the keyboard and such but haven't really dug into the internals so would you recommend me do so? and how often do you think i should be cleaning its internals?
Well, it really depends on the environment in which you use the laptop. Also where you use it, e.g. in bed, on blankets etc. I use mine only on a desk and so far I've cleaned it 2 times including the one on the video but both times there wasn't so much dust. It's up to you, you can clean it now, or wait another 6 months. Usually you should clean it if you start seeing some temperature increases, otherwise it might not be necessary.
Ah, thanks I think will try follow the video to clean it after looking at my connection ports was actually full of dust (since the laptops cools itself through keyboard and ports?), i cleaned out the dust with a vacuum but i seem to cant get all of it out
As I said to someone else, if you do it from the back side (the vents) it will probably blow large pieces of dust cloth-like stuff straight into the fan blades. At least try to remove the keyboard panel and this way the fans can be exposed and you can blow off the entire dust build up out of the fan assembly. The most common spot for the dust build-up is the heat sink.
Hello Dongleboo. I recently disassembled my G751 to replace the dead battery. I used your video for the guide. Got everything right except for the monitor. The monitor doesn't turn on now, the logo at the back does not even light up. I tried to disconnect-connect-boot, and still, the monitor seems dead. I'm now using an external monitor connected thru HDMI. Any advice or thoughts on how to troubleshoot and see if I should replace the monitor (or if the problem is in the mobo)?
Kleine Bahatan Hi, I'm really not sure what's causing this. There are a lot of people who had the same issue after opening up the laptop. I disassembled mine probably over 10 times and each time I've disconnected the display and I have no issues whatsoever. The problem is most likely with the motherboard or the connector itself. it's really difficult to say. I'm sorry that this happened to your laptop. There might've been a short out or some electric shock generated by your clothes. You'll have to take it to a repair shop you know for sure.
Dongleboo, hmmm not sure if I'd go through the trouble of having it checked. With all that time and money involved. Sorry to say this, I don't trust repair shops here. We don't have the official asus service center here too so that's that. Just wanted to know exactly where it went wrong, if Mobo or the monitor. The monitor is replaceable with an ok cost, but Mobo might not be as cheap. Anyway. I'm thinking of just dealing with using an external monitor. I don't take my laptop on mobile anyway. Do you think this is a good decision?

It's simply for isolation. It's plastic and protectsfrom shortouts, since the bottom of the keyboard is one big metal panel, and if you press hard enough, it may touch the motherboard and potentially short out. That's all.
When i open it,, i was so carefully when taking the keybord up. I carefully pull out those 4 cable. When i closed it it gave me keyboard problem. Whne pushing 1 button it types 3 button. Gt5 hy6 all together types . What is the problem?
The GPU RAM is integrated. The GPU itself is soldered on the motherboard, so it's impossible to upgrade anything except the RAM. The slots you see in the video are actually the "hidden" two slots. Usually most configurations of this model have the factory installed memory there ( 8/16 GB) and then you have the two slots which are easily accessible from the removable lid on the underside. Mine for instance has only 8 GB RAM, but I'll upgrade it soon, along with a good SSD.

My battery is dead, at 0% all the time, unpluging the AC adapter cable turns off computer immediately, ..........and my battery light turn orange to green after approx. 10 seconds for 1 second. Then go back again to orange. So windows gets hibernated when it turns green. I have disabled the charger controller from Device Manager. So windows does not go for hibernation now. Disabling the charge controller (kinda) turns off Nvidia GPU 970m. It gives error 43, and I am unable to play games, but normal desktop is running fine. The question I wanted to ask is, 1) If I remove battery only and do not install new one, will the laptop boots on? 2) Nvidia GPU will work properly without battery or not? Well, I actually don't know if this laptop is made to run without a battery. All of the laptops I had before had the option to run without battery but I'm not really sure about that one. It's a specific scenario and unfortunately I have no idea. Maybe you should try, but that means that you should literally glue the AC to the laptop because it kinda slips out from time to time and it'll be a bummer if it accidentally unplugs during something important. As for the second question, usually the laptop automatically switches between the "eco" gpu which is part of the processor and the high performance GPU. This means that when your laptop is on "High Performance" it should use the Nvidia. Maybe you should contact either ASUS or Nvidia on that topic, because I'm literally guessing here. Why don't you buy a new battery? They're not that expensive anymore and you'll have a functional laptop again. Btw, when did you buy yours? Has one year passed yet or not?

" It is already in this state, because battery is completely dead(probably Li-ion Deep Sleep Mode). I bought it from Amazon Germany. I was on visit to Pakistan for 2 months, when the AC adapter stopped working( 15 months after purchase ). It was very disappointing for such an expensive laptop and I had only 12 months of warranty. Unfortuantly there was no Asus Service Center is Pakistan, so I searched the local market and found out the second hand charger of Alienware Laptop which is same output voltage but little bit higher current. This new charger in fact increase battery life about 30 minutes more. But once my laptop was on battery and I was away for like 6 hours. When I came back battery died completely. It would take some time to reach replacement battery, so that why I asked weather laptop will work without battery or not. Thanks alot though for your quick reply.
You are welcome, and I'm sorry I cannot answer, but I have no experience on this topic with this particular model. Maybe you can try, I don't think it can damage anything, since there's nothing different. The circuits that maintain the charge are still operational. The only thing I am a bit worried is that higher current. The warranty should be 24 months on the laptop and accessories and 12 months on the battery. If you're still within the 24 months you can get a replacement AC. I suspect that the charger that you've used from the Alienware laptop fucked up the battery. Even though the voltage is the same, the higher current might have damaged the cells.
Actually I was deceived by Amazon, my laptop only have 12 months of warranty, despite all laptops in Germany get 24 months of warranty. The sent me laptop with french keyboard in germnay, so that particular model comes only with 12 month of warranty. On bright side i only had to pay 1300 euros 15 months ago to get 970m 3GB, 16 GB ram, 1TB+128GB ssd instead of 1700 euros. Anyways, I followed your video, disassembled completly, removed the battery. Now my nvidia card is also working fine so This laptop also work without battery :) Thanks alot again man, you are my hero :)
Thanks for perfect instructions. I used them to dissemble and reassemble my ROG laptop. I had to replace the entire keyboard assembly and bottom case. So everything had to come out of it. I spilled 10 ounces of hot munedo into my laptop, effectively destroying it. I got lucky and what I needed to fix it was on EBay. I got even luckier when I got it all back together and pressed the power button. It works!!! I think I might have a couple screws in the wrong places, but it's back together and it works! Thank you very much.
My screws where tightened by a Titan and sealed with a magical barrier. I managed to remove 4 before the x on multiple screws turned into a forsaken circle.
Maybe you were not using the correct sized screwdriver bit? If you use a bigger/smaller one, the thing you mentioned above tends to happen.

I know this is an older video, but it kept my G751 alive a bit longer. Ive had the since since 2015, and only a couple of weeks ago, the fans (specifically the left exhaust fan) started making noises. I opened it up, replaced the fan, thanks to this video and put it back together. Besides the horrible fidgity wifi antenna cables, the only issue i had was remember which screws go where, in the main body. Thank you for making this hardware last a bit longer. I will also say, for anyone using an older gaming laptop; dual SSD disks running raid helps.

Great DIY guide! Followed almost everyting beside loosen up the motherboard completley. Just removed the screws ontop so i could flex the motherboard a tiny bit to remove the battery and install a new one.

I was at my wits end worried about the noise my laptop was making (same model btw). I had fallen on an escalator and the stairs hit the side of my laptop that caused something to break off and go into the fan. I've never taken apart a laptop before so I was going to go to an IT company like geek squad to get it done but they wouldn't even tell me price and the only thing they told me was the price for the diagnostic which was over the top expensive!! my friend recommended this video to me and I disassembled the laptop (but just to the part of lifting off the keyboard) and I cleaned the fan with the duster spray. I successfully reassembled everything and my laptop is so quiet! Thanks again for posting this video HUGE help!!

Thanks for this video, a while back I felt something rather odd whenever I right-clicked on my touchpad and sometimes it didn't even register the input. Somehow, a small piece of plastic had fallen off of some internal part of my computer and gotten itself lodged under the right mouse button on the touchpad.

+BELDJILALI Farouk Ok, now I understand - open CMD and type in command: powercfg /batteryreport - it's going to create an .html file which you can open with your browser and then look for "Battery capacity history" -somewhere around the middle. If it's under 80 000 mWh then you have a dying battery. I had the same issue and a defective battery. It died after only 6 months and was down to 60 000 mWh and didn't want to charge past 92%. If you have a sudden drop in capacity then the battery is defective. The problem is that the battery itself has only 1 year warranty and if you have your laptop longer than this, than you can't change it under warranty. And take this as an advice - NEVER leave your laptop to discharge and then charge it again! If you're using it keep it plugged in at all times! I hope I helped.
so in short i need to replace the battery but sometimes it says not charging the led light starts to blink . If you discharge the battery comes back to normal and through that was the fix but my battery level is drying. Please what but my keyboard.?
Thanks for this video. I needed to replace the bottom part of the case because it had broke in a fall. I watched your video once and was able to completely disassemble the laptop and put it back together. My only issues where my own fault where I didn't put the keyboard ribbon back in securely and the keyboard didn't work, and the battery wasn't in all the way so putting the speaker piece back was difficult at first. It's a great guide, thank you! This video really helped me while I've disassembled my laptop to place RAM modules into the internal slots. It sounds a little bit strange but my model came with only one 8 GB module in one of the internal slots.
Mine also had only one 8GB module on the inside. Some configurations are like this. Mine also came without an SSD. It was a bit cheaper tho.

Its usually not the fan that needs cleaning but the copper heatsinks that are blocked with dust. A little bit of fine dust on the fan blades doesn't really matter.

Nice vid. I appreciate you taking the time. You can actually pull out the battery without taking off the mobo. It is a bit difficult. You have to wiggle it and round it out. But it can be changed without fully taking off the keyboard or the display. You just have to be careful. Good vid.
I found about that while I making the video. I actually removed that part from the final video in post because you have to apply some force to twist the mobo a bit and then force the battery out and it's not worth the efforts and the risk when you can simply undo 6 screws and remove everything.
great walk through. but as for the battery removal. you can remove it without taking out the motherboard.
remove the 2 screws on the battery & unplug it.
then take you're thumbs and push it back and then up on the front and it will come out.

Thank you for your video. Extremely helpful! I took the laptop apart first time to replace the RAM to solve one issue. I may have created two more issues though: The DVD ROM does not read any disks and the drive letter does not display anymore. However, when I run the third party hardware scanner I can see the drive model, controller details, etc. Second issue the keyboard backlight stopped working. Only struggle I had was putting back the ribbon cables because I didn't realize the clips were there so I may have forced them in. I may try to reseat them. Any other suggestions? Thanks very much!

Was kinda hoping I wouldn't need to almost entirely take it apart to get to the wireless card.... but I guess I will have to do this soon lol. Tried so many things to fix my intermiten wireless connection issues on my g751jy, but this wireless card is a known fault card unfortunately.

Hey. I can't remove the keyboard panel from minute 6 onwards. All the locks on the borders click open but the portion below the numpad feels like it's glues down. Is it the same for your laptop. I tried applying some force but it still doesn't come out. Is there a way around this?

Hi! I don't suppose you could help me out? This was my first time taking apart a computer of any kind due to a dead battery, and I'm about at my wit's end when it comes to putting it back together. My screen no longer seems to be aligning correctly to the laptop, and a popping sound can be heard when lifting it, and the back part with the speaker wire won't click into place. When closed, the screen is angled towards the left (Like a diamond instead of a square, only not so dramatic is the only way I can think to describe it). Looking closer, the hinges behind the battery towards the front of the laptop aren't the same. On the right side, the black plastic hook that goes around the metal piece is popped off, whereas the left hook is correct. It will fix itself when opening and closing, but the pop sound is still there and the screen is still not aligned, and the back piece still won't pop into place. What did I do wrong?
The only thing that comes to my mind is that you might have messed up the placement of the screws on the hinge or misaligned the holes. Although I'm not even sure how that can be accomplished, still it's maybe an option. There are quite a few holes and 2 different sized screws which go there, along with the small metal plates, which are marked L and R. Check those out as well, you might have swapped them out...somehow.
As a last resort, I suggest that you take it apart again, and start over.

I disassembled my ASUS too and it was not the first laptop or computer that I disassembled. But I encountered a problem this time. When putting it back together again, I did everything wright (I think), but it would not start. Then I disassembled it again and found out, that it is operating normally, only if I do not connect the touchpad. I looked closely at the touchpad cord, found no damage, connected it several times, but it still does not work. I had to leave touchpad disconnected in order it to work.
Does anyone know what could be the problem?
This might be due to some short out. There's one thing I'd like you to try out - since the cable from the touchpad can be disconnected from both sides, try to connect the cable only from the MB side, so you can rule out cable defect. If it doesn't start on the other hand, maybe the cable is shorting out and some safety feature is preventing your laptop from starting. Usually there's no reason why it shouldn't start and if it's not the cable It would be a bit weird.

Its going to help me quite a bit in the future when I finally get the courage to disassemble my laptop [G751JT] to that extent to replace the battery as it is completely dead, it sits at 0%charge and it says that its not charging the led indicator blinks orange [changes to green once in a while for a second].
You seem like a guy who is very experienced in taking apart the G751 and have done it many times... I have a few questions I hope you don't mind answering ;)
1. When disassembling the laptop to replace the battery, are there any components that you can get away with not removing in order to avoid additional hassles?
2. Will using latex surgical grade gloves prevent static build up from shorting out components?
3. Is it safe to clean the top of the keyboard around the keys and touchpad with a household vacuum cleaner to get rid of the dust that has settled under the keys without building up static?
4. I upgraded the RAM of the laptop as soon as I got it to 32GB [came with 16GB] by filling the empty slots with the same RAM it came with.. How big will be the impact on battery life with the additional two RAM cards?

Hi Varun, yes I've taken mine apart at least 10 times now so you could say I know my way around it.
Here are answers to your questions:
1. No, not really. The disassembly is a step-by-step process and in order to remove one part, you have to remove the other before or after that so you can reach the next one. The parts which do not require to be removed are the speaker boxes and the SD card reader, as they are far away from the MB.
2. I've never used any kind of gloves and to be honest I was quite amazed that some people have managed to damage their laptops in that way. They might help, but I'm not sure about that, so I prefer not to advise for and against them.
3. The keys are quite robust and quite hard to remove, still, a vacuum at full power might be able to pop one out if it's directly over them. To be honest I'd suggest a can of compressed air. It's safer and actually better.
4. As far as I'm aware, the ram is one of the most "power-efficient" components in a laptop, so even if there's some impact on battery life, it should be easily neglectable
I'm using my laptop more like a Desktop at the moment. I haven't removed it from my desk at home for over a month. :D
This is the best way you can preserve the battery.
Usually, I wouldn't even bother changing my battery again but from time to time I do move it to the sofa, etc. so I decided to change it.

I used to charge and discharge my battery throughout the day, and thought that keeping it plugged in and constantly charging would be bad for it.. My battery ended up dying in 1 year..
Now when I get a replacement battery, I'll keep it plugged in at all times and once a month discharge and recharge it.. :D

As for the discharging of the battery, do not discharge completely. Go down to 25-30% and plug it back in. That's actually good for it! :)

Well, I'm not really sure what do you mean by very loud? When the laptop's under heavy load, you can easily hear the fans, they're quite loud at certain RPM-s. If they're making a squeaking or loud whining noise they might have a bad bearing, but other than that it's ok. I really don't know which site is more "reliable" but the fan specs are 12V 0.40A with a 4-pin connector.

EDIT: I held my laptop on its side while it was running and the fan started making the noise. I believe it tilted the axle and allowed it to scrape and wear out the bearings. Any possible fix besides replacing the fan?
+Koju Kin For the cleaning, a can of compressed air will do it. As for the oiling...I haven't done it in this laptop but usually there's a small cap under the info sticker which opens and you can see the shaft. You have to take it apart and inspect it up-close because I really don't know how it is in this laptop. The oil itself should be sewing machine oil or something similar (DO NOT USE WD-40), you can get it from any fabrics shop etc.. You'll need a single drop only, don't put more than this.

+Admiral CoffeMaker It's very easy. Just be patient - get the circular connector directly over the pin. Don't tilt it in any direction. Just press it down. It should click! It needs some force to be applied, but only a little bit. If you can't do it with your fingers, grab the cable with one hand, place it over and use the screwdriver to press it in.

So I have two questions for you.
1. Is it possible to remove the rear red fan vents without removing the keyboard or monitor? I use my laptop in a professional setting and get some dirty looks from "business type people" when they see the gamer laptop. Hoping to paint them black.
2. Do you know of a source for the hard drive cradles? Mine only came with one cradle and Asus is not willing to send/sell me one.
1. LOL I have the same issue as I'm an IT specialist. What about the big glowing "Republic of Gamers" logo on the back? XD Anyway, you can get access to the vents by removing the panel behind the monitor. I'm not sure however if the vents can actually be detached from the main chassis. Also, I'm 90% sure that the heat sinks have to be removed in order to remove the vents. This means removing the entire motherboard which is a complete disassembly. My cousin's laptop came with only one cradle as well and we contacted Asus but they refused to sell this. I have no idea where you can get it from. Maybe look for a broken/damaged G751 for spare parts?

Hi, technically there's no danger for the data, because you're not modifying/tampering the storage.
Either way, a backup is always recommended, just in case.
Be careful around the display cable.
A lot of people somehow damaged their motherboards. I presume because of electrical shocks or shorting something by accident.
Be careful with metal tools around it and try to disconnect the battery first and connect it last. This way you can be sure you won't short something out.
I know this video is older but i have an issue. For some reason i cant get the keyboard part completly off. It feels like that in the middle its still being held together somewhere. Becquse of that i cant reattach the display. Its kind of a bad description but maybe anyone knows how to help here.
Thank you for this great video! I opened my G751jt to clean the fans and heatsinks with a small brush. After the "surgery" everything was great, but after a few hours I could at times hear an irregular ticking/clicking. The day after, the ticking slowly got louder and sometimes it clicks very loud. I do not dare to turn it on anymore until I have solved it. Do you have any idea of what it can be and how to fix it? Could it be a harddrive making the sounds?
I seriously doubt that it's the HDD. More likely one of the fans is touching the fan casing. I think you might've over-tightened the screws and there's not enough space. Try to loosen some of the screws turn on the laptop without screwing down the palm rest and keyboard and try to locate the source of the ticking. Usually its not a good idea to brush the fan blades. Use canned air or just blow with your mouth.
It turned out to be the HDD so I have now saved the most important data and removed the HDD until I buy a new one. I am very happy it was nothing worse, and now my computer is running great again. :D
I'm quite surprised to be honest...I really wasn't expecting it to be the HDD. Anyway, this gives you a good reason to shove an SSD in there. :D

First thing that comes to my mind is a bad connection of the display cable. Maybe it's not plugged in correctly or something. Please double or even triple check the display connector on the motherboard. The same goes for the keyboard. The flat flex cables can be a bitch sometimes and they can short out in between the pins if the cable is plugged in a bit sideways. Connections are very important. I took apart mine again yesterday (for the 10th time) to install more memory and I have no issues whatsoever. Please check the connections and give some feedback! The display connector is rather fragile and delicate so inspect is for bent contact pins etc.

I unplugged and replugged the screens plugs like 20 times, but it's still not working. I don't know really know what to do anymore tbh.
Did you by any chance saw some sort of a spark or discharge when you unplugged/plugged back in the cable?

Hey, I stripped my laptop following this video. Cleaned out the fans and replaced the thermal paste on the GPU and CPU. Now that I’ve put everything back together, it won’t start up. I have it plugged into the wall and the battery light is on but no matter how many times I click the power button, the laptop doesn’t power on. Any solutions?
I was having the same problem after putting everything back together my laptop wouldn't power on. So I disassembled it again and remove the memory slots. After putting it back the laptop worked. I'm not using the battery since it's dead. Actually I watched this video to remove the battery. Hope it helps

Hi dude, try the VGA connector. Hopefully you didn't kill the GPU but only the HDMI and/or display output. Either way, if it sparked, I think that something might've died. I'm sorry this happened to you.
@@amv.techpro Thanks man, I did a bit of fiddling around, seems like only the LCD is not turning on, the external monitor is working fine. Ordered a replacement connector and will have it sorted later on. Think this happened because while resetting the connector back in place, it 'rubbed' against the other pins, so either the actual connector died or the motherboard one, I'll have to see later on. On the plus side, decreased temps by 7C on the GPU and CPU so I guess it's all good.

Also if you re-paste with some good thermal paste or even better - liquid metal it's gonna be even better.

The DC jack is soldered to the motherboard. It's easy to replace if you have some experience in soldering. If not, better take it to a repair shop. If something goes wrong (and a lot can go wrong) it can become a big issue.

BUT, hopefully you have a idea what i should do. updated bios, but instead i seemed to have bricked it. Computer wont even post. only a black screen. Googled, and found out that removing the battery might fix it or else break power to cmos battery. Followed your guide to disassemly my G751JY. Removed the cable from computer battery on the motherboard and tried running it only with powercord. Did not start at all. Pluged in the battery and now it does not even indicate some life. Nothing lights up. Could I have shortened the motherboard?? Do you have any tip of what I could do?
+Fredrik Sjöberg Before you try anything else, remove the main battery, unplug the DC power and remove the CMOS battery for 5-10 minutes. After that put in the battery, plug in the the main battery and check for any disconnected cables ( fans, USB 3.0 board, etc. some laptops refuse to start if there's a faulty connection. It's worth the check. Also check very carefully the power button connection to the motherboard. If it's not in the right place it won't work because the pins won't align. When you connect everything give it try. If it doesn't start then the BIOS killed it. Updating the BIOS is very risky in the first place. Please let me know if this worked! I've had a similar experience with an old desktop.

The way you describe it, It might be a bad connection or a LED driver issue on the LCD matrix itself. There's no flex cable, just a lego-like connector which I remove at @09:05 Just try to turn on your PC (you have to press the small power button with your fingernail) with the palm rest moved a bit down and then move around or press down the connector and see if anything changes. If it's not the connection, then you might be looking at a faulty LCD matrix and/or LED driver. Either way it calls for a replacement. You can get it for around 100-120€ off ebay.
Yeah, mine did the same as well. If the battery is completely dead sometimes the laptop turns off just like that. This usually occurs under heavy loads, when it has a power shortage. Usually, it'd use the battery, but since it's the same like no battery at all, it turns off. This laptop isn't made to function without a battery like other laptops are.
Not sure if you still check this at all, but I could use help with something. My laptop is out of warranty, and the plastic that covers the right hinge seems to have started to break under pressure, which is also causing pressure for the screen.
Would you happen to know if it's possible to get replacement parts for that and if repairing it would be feasible? Everything else seems to work fine for now, it's just the hinges.

As for the repair itself - I think it's a matter of a simple swap. Just want to point out that the prices on this website are a bit high, so like I said, do check ebay first.

To be honest, my hinges are rock solid. The same goes for any surrounding plastic parts. I'm surprised that you're having issues with them, as this is perhaps one of the sturdiest display mount mechanisms I've come across. Please let me know when you fix this.
Dongleboo I would blame it on the manufacturer, but I'm out of warranty anyway. 😅 I'm just hoping I can fix it myself, since their estimate is about $700. As far as I can tell, the monitor and the actual hinge seems to be fine. It's just the plastic covering breaking down.

Weird. Maybe it is actually a manufacture defect. I think it's better to look for a dead laptop, which you can buy off ebay. Too many parts have to be replaced. Look for a complete dispay assembly.

+James Stricler Usually this type of turbine fans pull the fresh air from above. There are no actual openings for it. It gets from everywhere. This is why it gathers some dust on the speaker grills because air passes trough them as well. It was the same on the old G51, as well on the G750 etc. They all have similar design.

This video will help me clean mine when its due for one. The only question i have is which is the GPU and which is the CPU? I know the GPU will have memory modules around it. I would like to know. I have the G751JY VS71 model.
I'd love to answer that, but I've never actually checked and I'm not sure, which is which. I think the one closer to the battery is the GPU and the one in the "center" of the MB is the CPU, but it's just a guess, really. I'm glad it helped! :)

Nick Chinn GPU is on right if you're looking at your laptop in a normal use. If you're starting at the fans from behind. The GPU is left fan.
The cpu has two screws, and the gpu has three screws. The replacement fans are 12v .40a.
Hi, I'd like to replace keyboard in this model. Any recommendation how to go about removing and then putting it back together with the top cover? It seems to be welded/glued with it but I can see quite few places offering online just the keyboard so there must be a way.
To be honest I don't know. There was one guy here who said they will change his in some PC repair shop, but I have no idea how it went. The keyboard is actually high-frequency welded to the palm rest/chassis. The same goes for the touchpad. You can find the whole set here - bit.ly/2hmn9h1

Cool, no worries. I'm more interested in replacing just the keyboard (not only because it's much cheaper but I also like the challenge). Separating from chassis and then attaching back will be tricky though. I think some type of glue might do the job (epoxy perhaps?) but I'm still at the stage of figuring it out so doing preliminary research. I have a G751JL and I've been wanting to clean the fans, but I can't seem to pull the keyboard up to expose the fans and insides. The right side, for whatever reason, feels like its stuck and even after using a card to pull it up, it won't come off. Any idea what to do?
You are probably missing a screw. Once you pull it up from behind the display hinges it goes up fairly easy. Check if you've removed all screws including the ones that are under the "service lid". There are 4 screws there. Check carefully!

I've had my g751 for about 9months now and hadn't really done anything to maintain it's internals. I've only cleaned the keyboard and such but haven't really dug into the internals so would you recommend me do so? and how often do you think i should be cleaning its internals?
Well, it really depends on the environment in which you use the laptop. Also where you use it, e.g. in bed, on blankets etc. I use mine only on a desk and so far I've cleaned it 2 times including the one on the video but both times there wasn't so much dust. It's up to you, you can clean it now, or wait another 6 months. Usually you should clean it if you start seeing some temperature increases, otherwise it might not be necessary.
Ah, thanks I think will try follow the video to clean it after looking at my connection ports was actually full of dust (since the laptops cools itself through keyboard and ports?), i cleaned out the dust with a vacuum but i seem to cant get all of it out

As I said to someone else, if you do it from the back side (the vents) it will probably blow large pieces of dust cloth-like stuff straight into the fan blades. At least try to remove the keyboard panel and this way the fans can be exposed and you can blow off the entire dust build up out of the fan assembly. The most common spot for the dust build-up is the heat sink.

I recently disassembled my G751 to replace the dead battery. I used your video for the guide.
Got everything right except for the monitor. The monitor doesn't turn on now, the logo at the back does not even light up. I tried to disconnect-connect-boot, and still, the monitor seems dead.
I'm now using an external monitor connected thru HDMI.
Any advice or thoughts on how to troubleshoot and see if I should replace the monitor (or if the problem is in the mobo)?

I disassembled mine probably over 10 times and each time I've disconnected the display and I have no issues whatsoever. The problem is most likely with the motherboard or the connector itself. it's really difficult to say.
I'm sorry that this happened to your laptop. There might've been a short out or some electric shock generated by your clothes. You'll have to take it to a repair shop you know for sure.
Dongleboo, hmmm not sure if I'd go through the trouble of having it checked. With all that time and money involved. Sorry to say this, I don't trust repair shops here. We don't have the official asus service center here too so that's that.
Just wanted to know exactly where it went wrong, if Mobo or the monitor. The monitor is replaceable with an ok cost, but Mobo might not be as cheap. Anyway.
I'm thinking of just dealing with using an external monitor. I don't take my laptop on mobile anyway.

Once inside the laptop, what is that black material on the right side of the laptop and what happens if you remove it?
It's simply for isolation. It's plastic and protectsfrom shortouts, since the bottom of the keyboard is one big metal panel, and if you press hard enough, it may touch the motherboard and potentially short out. That's all.

When i open it,, i was so carefully when taking the keybord up. I carefully pull out those 4 cable. When i closed it it gave me keyboard problem. Whne pushing 1 button it types 3 button. Gt5 hy6 all together types . What is the problem?
Hi, re-seat the large ribbon cable. If it's even a little off it starts typing wrong. It has to be perfectly perpendicular to the connector.
Here is a stupid question, can the video/graphics card ram be upgraded? Or is it integrated? I only ask because I noticed the ram under the keyboard.
The GPU RAM is integrated. The GPU itself is soldered on the motherboard, so it's impossible to upgrade anything except the RAM. The slots you see in the video are actually the "hidden" two slots. Usually most configurations of this model have the factory installed memory there ( 8/16 GB) and then you have the two slots which are easily accessible from the removable lid on the underside. Mine for instance has only 8 GB RAM, but I'll upgrade it soon, along with a good SSD.

My battery is dead, at 0% all the time, unpluging the AC adapter cable turns off computer immediately, ..........and my battery light turn orange to green after approx. 10 seconds for 1 second. Then go back again to orange. So windows gets hibernated when it turns green.
I have disabled the charger controller from Device Manager. So windows does not go for hibernation now.
Disabling the charge controller (kinda) turns off Nvidia GPU 970m. It gives error 43, and I am unable to play games, but normal desktop is running fine.
The question I wanted to ask is,
1) If I remove battery only and do not install new one, will the laptop boots on?
2) Nvidia GPU will work properly without battery or not?

Well, I actually don't know if this laptop is made to run without a battery. All of the laptops I had before had the option to run without battery but I'm not really sure about that one. It's a specific scenario and unfortunately I have no idea. Maybe you should try, but that means that you should literally glue the AC to the laptop because it kinda slips out from time to time and it'll be a bummer if it accidentally unplugs during something important.
As for the second question, usually the laptop automatically switches between the "eco" gpu which is part of the processor and the high performance GPU. This means that when your laptop is on "High Performance" it should use the Nvidia. Maybe you should contact either ASUS or Nvidia on that topic, because I'm literally guessing here. Why don't you buy a new battery? They're not that expensive anymore and you'll have a functional laptop again. Btw, when did you buy yours? Has one year passed yet or not?

It is already in this state, because battery is completely dead(probably Li-ion Deep Sleep Mode).
I bought it from Amazon Germany. I was on visit to Pakistan for 2 months, when the AC adapter stopped working( 15 months after purchase ). It was very disappointing for such an expensive laptop and I had only 12 months of warranty.
Unfortuantly there was no Asus Service Center is Pakistan, so I searched the local market and found out the second hand charger of Alienware Laptop which is same output voltage but little bit higher current. This new charger in fact increase battery life about 30 minutes more.
But once my laptop was on battery and I was away for like 6 hours. When I came back battery died completely.
It would take some time to reach replacement battery, so that why I asked weather laptop will work without battery or not.

You are welcome, and I'm sorry I cannot answer, but I have no experience on this topic with this particular model. Maybe you can try, I don't think it can damage anything, since there's nothing different. The circuits that maintain the charge are still operational. The only thing I am a bit worried is that higher current.
The warranty should be 24 months on the laptop and accessories and 12 months on the battery. If you're still within the 24 months you can get a replacement AC. I suspect that the charger that you've used from the Alienware laptop fucked up the battery. Even though the voltage is the same, the higher current might have damaged the cells.
Actually I was deceived by Amazon, my laptop only have 12 months of warranty, despite all laptops in Germany get 24 months of warranty. The sent me laptop with french keyboard in germnay, so that particular model comes only with 12 month of warranty. On bright side i only had to pay 1300 euros 15 months ago to get 970m 3GB, 16 GB ram, 1TB+128GB ssd instead of 1700 euros.
Anyways, I followed your video, disassembled completly, removed the battery. Now my nvidia card is also working fine so This laptop also work without battery :)
