Was a member of the UK Ducati Owners Club that used to meet in Fulham in the early 1980s. We would go on club runs with lots of these SS models, along with MHRs, Darmahs, 250/350/450s and some Pantahs (to add a descant pitch into the open-conti'd cacophony). With maybe 50 plus bikes travelling down narrow streets the funnelled noise was remarkable and glorious. People half a mile away must have wondered if there was a squardon of WW2 bombers heading thier way.
My brother in law used to have one of these, he bought it brand new in the day. Had a few rides on it as a pillion. Sweet. He now has a 750 Gt, 750 SS and a 860 Darmagh.
rustyosh : He sure does, and has had quite a number of other bevel Dukes in the past. Myself, I recently bought a 620ie Monster, I cant afford a classic Duke, nor will my Licence allow me yet, LAMs bike only for the next two years. The Monster should be good regardless.
Beautiful bike! I'm watching everything I can on old bevel twins to kick myself in the arse hard enough to start working on my 80/81 MHR. It doesn't need much but time and some money. I''ll make some vids of my own along the way.
Inspiring ride there.. I have one of these B&G's pulled apart in my garage. You've given me motivation to get stuck into bringing it back to life. Cheers
Before anybody comments on the front indicators, they were a temporary thing okay? I have the originals back on. I know there are a lot of “experts” out there, but believe me, you’re not going to tell me anything I don’t already know about this bike
I know I’m horribly biased and my opinions on what constitutes a lovely motorcycle are not modern in any way shape or form, but here they are anyway...... I think the bevel Ducatis are among the most handsome bikes ever made. Starting with the 750SS Desmo and ongoing. Admittedly the one bevel twin I had, an 860GT, probably doesn’t count, it was troubled stylistically. Ducati seemed to have that Italian artistic flair in bucketloads, the orange 750 Sport is breathtakingly lovely, the Darmah was a pleasant surprise. And then the 916, dramatic styling perfection. Sadly for me Ducati have lost their styling flair and the later machines I find uninteresting. Perhaps my taste is frozen in the 1970s.
John Edwards I agree, you’ve got to love the bevels. I think the 860GT was initially thought of as a bit of an ugly duckling, but it’s becoming way more popular in recent years. I like them and I think the only thing that let them down a little was the radical side covers
I've got a 1993 900 Monster which I've modified a lot - 944 bore kit, 2 mm oversize valves, bigger cams, 41 mm carbs, & heaps of head work with an Imola style fairing, & Ohlins forks & I love it
1979 I had a choice - one of these or a Suzuki GS 1000 as Ducatis had a nasty habit of being temperamental and doing big ends. Guy who bought the Ducati smashed it up about a mile up the road. Beautiful bikes with Contis but you had to know what you were doing with them mechanically to keep them running properly.
Andrew Hoffman mine has always been totally reliable. Great starter and runs like a top. It always pays to stay on top of things though...servicing, maintenance etc, and I change the oil every two or three thousand kms. I think keeping the oil fresh is the secret to long life...and of course, staying upright...
rustyosh My main concern was that since I didn't know a lot about mechanical maintenance, I was better off sticking with a Japanese bike. Ducatis had a bad reputation for requiring expensive big end rebuilds. Ron Angels dealership in Richmond did a lot of that I understand.
very very nice but if you warm up your engine that way you may break your crankshaft easely, becarful my friend bevels don't like lite rpm... good luck
It's forty years old, been around the clock once and it's still got the original crankshaft...that's got to tell you something about the way I treat it...

Would’ve been amazing…I never tire of the note
So beautiful to look at. So wonderful to hear. This bike is the definition of charisma.
Still the most beautiful bike ever made

David Mitchell sounds like he has a nice collection

David Mitchell yeah, I really like the monsters, it should be great
Thanks mate , there is a serious lack of old duke vids available , everybody seems to want to walk round em ......get on the bloody things ffs
Yeah I agree mate, that’s what they’re made for. This lock down has been doing my head in though, I usually ride every day
Ducati 900ss, laverda sfc, Moto Guzzi .... Great Italian Bikes!!
Those carburetor butterfly sounds are pure pornography! Sounds like that is what made me fell in love with carburetors
I was running Keihin flat slides at the time, but I’ve since put a new set of Dellorto PHM 40s on. Runs and sounds even better...
Absolutely love it. My uncle has one too

Thanks and good
luck with it mate. I'm sure you wont regret it
I love 900SS of this color best. Beautiful machine, beautiful sound. Maybe this is Cairns, right?
素晴らしいバイクとrideを有り難う御座います🙂👍

Couldn't get rid of the wind noise, but earbuds or headphones will let you appreciate the Conti magic...
L twin sound really romantic engine sound. like cat purr. great bike.
Bella Signorina !❤
What a beast ,, know that’s a motorcycle.👍👍👍

You're just right. Problem must be, having created the 900ss and the 916, where do you go from there?
Ducati 916, heaven on earth
I have one when I was Yong En 1981
いいなぁ〜ベベル😊
❤❤❤👋
Bellissimo
Very Cool Desmo !
Yutaka Murase yeah, can't get enough of it. I've worn a groove in the roads around our area over the years. Just a delight to ride
That tick over!...I think I’ve just wet myself🤗
I still wanna come & live in your garage lol
Robert Jeffery you're persistent, I'll give you that...😂
Pays to be persistent sometimes LOL, seriously that's the most beautiful motorcycle ever built
Robert Jeffery yeah, most of the old bevels are pretty cool, but I don't take it for granted, I consider myself extremely lucky to have owned this one
I've got a 1993 900 Monster which I've modified a lot - 944 bore kit, 2 mm oversize valves, bigger cams, 41 mm carbs, & heaps of head work with an Imola style fairing, & Ohlins forks & I love it
Robert Jeffery Nice...you should upload a vid
Beautiful sound - how did you suppress the wind noises? This is Australia, I presume - right? Thanks for uploading this, and best wishes from Germany
I couldn’t suppress them Rolf…they’re terrible. I just edited out the worst bits. And yes, Queensland, Australia.
@@rustyosh What part? nice bike.

Sweet ❤️✌🏻
✌️
Does anyone know a more beautiful motorcycle. If so I'd like to see it.

Out all the bikes. The old 900SS bevel gear. Is the epitome of what a motorcycle should be. The new computerized simply do not do it for me.
Yeah, old school is still cool…😀
Lovely bike. Have you ever taken it around Morgan Park?
Giselle Suffolk thanks. And no...are you familiar with MP?
@@rustyosh Yes and owned property at Swanfels.
Giselle Suffolk oh okay...it’s a good area. Do you own a Duke, I’ve seen your name somewhere?
@@rustyosh No but my hubby does. Bevel 900 ss the same as yours different colour scheme. I post on Ducati ST page as well.
Giselle Suffolk okay, will keep an eye out for it

@@rustyosh yes wonderful !
Nice. Is it as fast as a Suzuki SV650? Asking for my girl friend.
I don’t even know what that is, but if it doesn’t do more than 220km/hr...yes
トレーラーが何台か道路に止まっていたのを見かけた
Better than sex that motorcycle! - I know
Si però stai schiacciando le uova...
😂
