- Should you use a tee on the tee box on a par three for your irons? And if you use a tee for your irons, how high should you tee up the golf ball? What is the difference between a high or a low tee for your irons? All those questions will be answered in this golf instuction video of We Play Golf. With a different tee height you can fly your golf ball heigh or low. A tee makes the tee shot easier. A beginner golfer can use a little higher tee.

This is an excellent tip! I've always teed up my irons, but still tried to hit down on them and take a divot. This tip will help me change that and get a cleaner, more pure strike on the ball. Thank you!
Great advice. Only started golfing regularly this summer. Par 3 and using irons off the tee have been a disaster. Only raised tee last day out and made a huge difference. Better contact with the ball. Will implement your advice later today 👍

GREAT advice - thanks! I found this on my own through trial and error, but have had a few friends tell me they think teeing higher with an iron is just "wrong". I like that this does have an effect on shot shape.

Love it! Great video and well explained. This helps a lot. Just started teeing up the ball for par 3s this year and all is clear now
Also, I’m a 9-11 handicap. Been struggling with the long par 3’s using long irons but will try the higher tee with standing taller for those 200 yard holes lol. Been doing ok with my trusty 4 and 6 hybrids as replacements

Great video! I left my driver in the bag this weekend and used my 3 iron off the tee, I went from consistent mid to high 90’s and broke into the 80’s! The tee heights you mentioned I will be using this weekend! I love the consistency

Don't give up on driver yet. I learned to hit a 3/4 driver to be more conservative as I'm warming up the first few holes. It worked so well that I used this shot off the tee the entire round and the next round and the next. I'm shooting 80s as well, don't have the swing speed to play 3 iron.

What is the scenario here? New to golf. I tee off with a driver and then I was told when I get to the fairway, I use an iron like a 7 or 9 but I wasn’t taught to put a tee. Is that only when you get the the next whole? Or a shorter distance?

do you play the ball off your left heel and hit up on the ball as if you were using a driver? I've had no luck hitting down on the ball with a short tee on Par 3. Thanks.
Hi James, thanks for your question! Let me explain this , if you would hit your iron just like your driver, you would have a lot of shots going high left because the club head has the tendency to be closed at that point in your swing! So I suggest to tee the ball up in between centre off your stance and your left heel as a right handed player. I suggest 1cm high and then you swing freely into the back of the ball!

A question for whoever may still watch this video:
When you are hitting an iron off the deck, you want to make a divot in front of the ball, meaning you are meeting the ball while you are still swinging down.
For a tee shot off a short tee, do you do the same without the divot? Or are you swinging upward like a shot with your driver?
Hi Noah, Thanks for your question, I always want to hit down with the irons because I want to compress the ball, even from a tee shot. Tha angle of attack should always be negative, only if you put the ball towards your front foot, shoulder ( the lowest point of your swing) then I don’t swing down anymore, you could do that to make the ball fly higher.

Million dollar question. When the ball is above our feet, we choke down on the club. Why don’t we choke down when teeing the ball up? Because when teeing the ball up, it’s “above” our feet isn’t it?

As the ball only sits up 0.5 cm till 5 cm with your driver it shouldn’t have any effect on your position nor your ball flight
But, when you use your driver You could change your posture according to the hight of your tee … so when you tee it up higher you can stand taller with your spine and rotate more on a flater swing = in out = draw
Me, struggling to carry a 2 iron more than 200 off the tee- "Must be my swing speed"
We play golf - "Tee the ball higher to hit the ball higher"
