Yeah it was a great moment, shame they spoiled it by just giving him a tardis anyway. I feel like this ending would've been a lot more powerful if they hadn't done that, and 14 was actually forced to settle down and rehabilitate. What's stopping him from just flying off and doing exactly the same shit as before now?
@@mrflibble1259I suppose one could argue that since the TARDIS, canonically, always takes the Doctor to ‘where he needs to go’, if 14 does travel hereafter, he will not encounter danger.
I usually think rescores are just a bit of fun, bit this genuinely would have been absolutely perfect for the actual episode. Like even the small details, the short minor chord when they mention River, the tonal shift when Donna starts talking at 1:45 and the Doctor's theme when Donna gets more serious at 2:40 and the climax after "Come home". It's perfect fit for every last detail and it's a shame it's not in the real episode.
I will say, it's astonishing how well it matches up. My anchor point was I wanted the bridge of the Doctor's theme playing when Donna tells him he's come home, but there's no edits beforehand it just works!
@@DarylDevinei did a similar kind of edit for Game of Thrones back in the day and the wonder woman theme. Worked surprisngly really fucking well until a certain point but ended up having to make a couple edits to it
@@DarylDevine Yeah! Maybe they used this track as a temporary soundtrack in the editing phase. But then again it's unlikely as this version of Doctor Forever was never released.
I'm a composer, and I'm usually vehemently against rescore clips like this one as they don't match the nuances that the composers have to work with in the actual scene. But holy hell this works FAR too well, it's uncanny, and hearing an OG Murray score takes me back 😊
I can see the argument against rescores as it feels disrespectful to the composer's actual music for the episode, but that might not always be the case if the actual music used was still good and carries its own weight. Thinking optimistically, rescores show how well and timeless a composer's previous works are and I think that is one of the things that makes them memorable, along with the new pieces of music they make. Some examples of this are Steve Jablonsky's score for the live action Transformers movies when I saw the ending of Bumblebee rescored, or Hans Zimmer's score from The Dark Knight trilogy being used to rescore Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 2.
I never realised before, but the music is what made doctor who feel like doctor who back during this era. Hearing it again now and it fits so well and is just doctor who.
I think Seguns music was honestly beautiful and such a breath of fresh air as it was something new. It's a real shame that people don't embrace Doctor Who music outside of Murray because there's some great stuff there.
@@sadie1072 honestly I thought this when I first watched the era. But when watching it a second time I really noticed how well he used leitmotifs. Murray makes event scores that are made to be bought separately and listened to. Segun is more atmospheric. His scores aren't themes like Murray. They're essentially used specifically for that scene and that scene alone. Far more like classic Who. In fact I think a huge reason why people hate this era is due to how much it deviated from the established feel of NuWho. It was by far the closest NuWho has gotten to classic who I'd say
This is such a lovely scene, the doctor being surrounded by those he loves most (Donna, the TARDIS and himself) and being told to take care of himself really brings a tear to my eye, in a way. Hearing it with this music amplified it so much
Man there’s so many re-scores out there that just don’t work at all but this is insanely good. The way the music swells when they mention Sarah-Jane, the Doctors theme kicking in when Donna talks about his old face coming back, it’s excellent!
ngl I was expecting this certain piece of music to crop back up since it was used a lot in their actual season together it fits perfectly in this scene

Honestly sort of surprised "Noble Farwell" (one of the few unreleased tracks from the RTD-1 Era of DW), didn't come back in the specials. One of my fav renditions of The Doctor's theme (And before people argue, it is the theme of the Doctor as an overarching character, at least when Murray Gold is composing, every doctor has their unique theme (9 and 10 having the theme and a variation act as their own themes too). But even when 11 came in with I Am The Doctor, "The Doctor's Theme" still had its points where it came in during tracks, especially later on in Moffat's run)
I still do think the TARDIS divide was a bit too much. I'm alright with the bigeneration, but I think having the Fourteenth Doctor being able to just f off whenever he feels like it cheapens the intention.
Ncuti really has already proven himself The Doctor, hasn't he? He's acting alongside David Tennant and still holding his own, and arguably dominating every scene he's in.
His affection towards 14 is everything. I live for that kind of thing. The little pet names, "love", "honey". The hug was perfect. "I've got you. It's alright." The hand on his neck and the kiss on his head was so perfectly, beautifully intimate and caring.
This is like the division of the subconscious, the parts of the mind we hide beneath the surface, talking to each other. One voice saying "Go" the other saying "Stop".
Wow I liked the original but they totally should have used this, well done! I especially l9ve the part where Donna is talking about why he came back to this version and his theme starts.
I honestly think this is what made the specials seem separate, the new music but I just think it would’ve made so much sense to score the specials like this because this is just incredible. It’s mad how much the music can change it
As much as I love the music from this special, I missed 10’s music so much, and to have it put to this scene in such a clever and well put way, it makes me cry.
Makes this work even better is that it mirrors the first time Donna and the Doctor met. Talking about losing Rose and The Doctor needing someone. Perfectly full circle
Ugh this is perfection! Ive been dying to do this. Thank you so much for putting it together. This scene needed this music! I was desperate for them to use it in the 60th. It donna and 10s theme!
As much as I liked what they used in The Giggle, the Series 3-4 music works ten times better for this poignant moment. A touch of nostalgia with The Doctor's Theme, which I associate with *all* incarnations, it perfectly makes way for the transitioning between the Fourteenth (David Tennant) and Fifteenth (Ncuti Gatwa) Doctors. ❤️💔
The one thing i never could understand about this scene was that they were lecturing the 14th doctor about needing to rest because they never stopped going and could never greive or relax, but the 15th doctor is the same person and experienced all of the same stuff and no one questions him.
I think its because the 15th doctor seperated that emotional side of himself. He still remembers it all and cares about his past life, but is able to move on. Unlike the 14th who kept all the grief and sorrow
This turned out great! I especially loved the part when he duplicated the TARDIS and the song swelled again to match. Great edit to an already fantastic scene! ❤❤
Felt to me like the original music, especially towards the end, shifted towards 15's viewpoint and mood, whereas this version stayed with 14's perspective
This exchange between Donna and 14 makes me wonder if 14 becomes the curator. It would allow 14 to retire and rest, while 15 continues to travel. Of course it could just mean the Doctors do their own things, but then it leaves me wondering, who dies on Trenzalore?
I haven't seen the special yet, this music felt perfect and original. I assume I'm going to be real disappointed when I finally watch the special and hear whatever music is actually playing.

I just realized all the doctor ever wanted was to stop and stay at one place. When 11 stayed on trenzalore or when the 12th doctor began to regenerate said he was staying wherever the tardis took him
Yes, this is actually a major theme with the Doctor. The Doctor always complains that he/she can't stay in one place, but the 3rd Doctor truly develops a family. Even after the Time Lords restores his memory of time travel the 3rd Doctor never leaves Unit and Sarah. Only when the 3rd Doctor regenerates does he finally decide to roam the universe at full tilt again.
