I honestly believe the scene where the Doctor and Donna meet again and have that conversation mouthing to each other between two windows, is probably the best scene in all of Who. Because we don't hear either of them say a word, but we can still understand the entire conversation, and it's hilarious. That is some quality acting, writing and directing.

I think there's something to be said for how Donna had only 1 season, Catherine Tate wasn't even really a fan of Doctor Who, and yet her and Tennant's chemistry carried so hard that we remember every single one of their episodes like she's the only companion in the show. Honestly an icon.
Just a sign of how accurate they were with what time period they were supposed to be in. It was the 1800s, after all. Not to mention just being publicly homosexual was outright illegal, in most places in the world. Included "engaging in acts of passion", like kissing someone of the same sex "with romantic passion", or even showing similar romantic affection, or arousal, for someone of the same sex in public. And yes, even just visible romatic affection of a member of the same sex would be a criminal offense at the time. EDIT: Fixed the first sentence.

@@jam-the-hologram at least the original run didn't pull that trick too often. One gripe I have with the reboot is how often they 'kill' companions only to immediately retcon it (River, Jack, Bill, Rory, etc.) It really plays with your emotions in all the wrong ways.
@@gedaliahkrasner2820 I agree. Immediately retconning a death lessens the emotional impact, as well as lessening the stakes in future stories that put companions lives at risk. With Jack I think it worked well because it was the first time that it happened and his death still had an effect on him (making him immortal) but with Rory and the others it turned into a joke (especially with Rory)!

@@jam-the-hologram at least the original run didn't pull that trick too often. One gripe I have with the reboot is how often they 'kill' companions only to immediately retcon it (River, Jack, Bill, Rory, etc.) It really plays with your emotions in all the wrong ways.
@@gedaliahkrasner2820 I agree. Immediately retconning a death lessens the emotional impact, as well as lessening the stakes in future stories that put companions lives at risk. With Jack I think it worked well because it was the first time that it happened and his death still had an effect on him (making him immortal) but with Rory and the others it turned into a joke (especially with Rory)!
